Holy crap! I was scrolling through vids and saw my actual car in your thumbnail haha. It's the 93 hatch with the red seats. Here is some info on the car if anyone cares:
93 Civic CX with a b16a2 swap out of the 2000 Si. The thumbnail photo was taken at Barber Motorsports Park in front of the car museum. It had the old red Tenzo R (RECARO Replica) seats but was switched out with some Buddy Club fixed backs shortly after.
Car had basic bolt-ons and a Spoon N1 exhaust. Koni adjustable struts with Hypercoil springs, Integra Type R RSB, Si Disk brake upgrade, Rota GT3 wheels running Hoosier A6 Slicks, Kirk Racing cage and gutted rear cabin interior. That was during the JDM trend so I had quite a few things imported from JPN (Vision Technica corner lights, JDM tails, Spoon radiator hoses, Spoon N1, JDM fogs I never installed and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember right off hand).
It competed in SCCA from 2007-2014 where I finally won the SMF championship that final year. I still own the car but it has not been driven since 2015 and just been tucked away in the back of my shop. Just starting to restore it but in no rush.
Here is a link to an old video of it on my other channel:
    th-cam.com/video/nE3oMNn9cL8/w-d-xo.html
Enjoyed the video btw! My favorite Si was the 99-00 though I never owned one. I honestly never paid much attention to Civics past 2000. The years after went to a McPherson strut setup and ditched the fantastic double wishbone suspension of the 88-00s. Not sure if that means anything to the stance crowd but it was a deathblow to us racers.

Best way to sum up the difference between the 8th Gen Si and the 9th gen...

9th has ivtec and only kicks in above 5000 rpm which is a perfectly spaced powerband ive drove all of them and 9th is the best imo thanks to the CVT you can natural asperate tune them with a good bottom and top block mix from 9th and 8th gens and have the best of both worlds getting a red line of 8000 rpm and maintaining cvt and crazy like beginning to end horsepower around 260

But after selling my rsx and buying my 2000 civic si, the car made me change my thought about it, it may not be the fastest but for its size the power and the torque was just enough and the handling was amazing too. Great overview, thank you. VTEC was special. You are right about the 8th gen. That said, as an all around car, I love my 10th gen SI. The chassis is amazing, brakes are insanely good, adaptive dampers, etc. Oh, and more midrange torque. Low redline sucks, and vtec was so cool, but the tradeoffs are there in spades. Now if only it had all this plus VTEC. Bone stock 10th gen is still a driver's car. Hard to argue with 0.97 g on a skidpad.

In Canada we had the 4th generation civic si. It started in 1988 with the CRX Si then in 1989 with the Civic Si. The Si came with Honda's carryover D-series SOHC 1.6-liter inline-four producing 108 horsepower. The 1989-1991 Civic Si included air conditioning and fog lights. The Si made do with manual steering without power assist. If you didn't live through this era, you'll have to take our word for it as to how vastly far ahead of the competition Honda was in 1991. Line up the Civic of that era against any domestic small car, and things weren't even close: The Hondas were built to a higher standard, with consistent fits and panel gaps, and the cars drove with a sophistication American economy cars couldn't touch. Sure, the Honda cost a little more, but you are also more likely to come across one of these Civics today than, say, a Ford Escort of the same vintage. This was and remains a key appeal of Honda products. "Courtesy of Motor Trend"

8th gen si is best because it's the last one with dual cam profile VTEC and a engine that can rev up to 8000rpm and to 8600rpm with a reflash. The 9th gen is good, but it's missing exhaust side VTEC so when doing a NA setup you can't make as much easily as the K20Z3. I feel like they should of put the K24A2 in the 9th gen instead if that was possible.

Swap the RSX Type S head (K20A2) on then boost it. Would also need ECU swap and tune. The K20A3 was a fuel efficiency targeted engine. VTEC was only on the intake side instead of both exhaust and intake side which made VTEC engage lower than normal but only produced 160hp which is relative to the 99/00 Si. I miss my 03 Si as it was fun to drive. You could have also done the VTEC killer setup which locks the VTEC cam lobes to be fully engaged at all times. Only problem is that the engine bay was WAY too cramped and hard to work on unless you deleted a lot of things like A.C. PS etc. If I could find another one in good condition I would totally buy one and modify it again. The obvious best swap for it would be the JDM K20A swap producing over 200hp that this generation Civic was given in Japan which was the Civic Type R not Si. (Specs on that are different per source but it was the best K20 variant with the most power 220hp*)
*could be wrong on power number but I know it's higher than the K20Z3 and K20A2.

10th Gen is the 1st turbo with DI engine Honda is manufacturing. I have read DI egineers have issue with carbon buildup in the intake valves due to where the injectors are located. DI engines inject fuel directly into the cylinders where combustion takes place. Because of this the valves can get very dirty with carbon buildup and will affect the engine's performance over time. The carbon buildup is a result of oil blowby. Whereas the PI engines inject fuel above the valves and in a way cleans them prior to reaching the the cylinders.I heard a catch can can be a solution to prevent the oil blowby to re-circulation back into the intake valves via pvc valve.
The reason for me to bring this up is because I purchased a 2018 Civic si. Great to drive until I found out about potential issues with DI engines.
