Ah yes... video-essays about very specific subjects gotta be my favorite category! Never would imagine something like this could entertain me so much. You're amazing!!!
The .357 SIG is actually intended to be semi-confused with the Magnum. It was designed to mimic the .357 Magnum's performance, but for a magazine fed pistol. Hence needing to be bottlenecked - it had to be shortened to fit the grip but still needs the gunpowder. Funnily enough the bullet isn't actually .357 diameter at all, but the link to .357 Mag was important enough to give that name anyway. 5.7x28mm also doesn't just go straight through. Like rifle rounds it will yaw - turn end over end to increase it's surface area. So like rifles it can still transfer a good amount of energy. Admittedly it is a bit harder to design a bullet to do damage exactly how you want, but most agencies demand a lot of penetration and they can certainly transfer all of the energy in the standard 12 inches demanded. It's likely a little less damaging than 9mm but really not a significant difference unless you're deviating from the penetration requested.
Thanks for this info, especially the .357 situation is very interesting! And for the 5.7 part, eh i guess i just kinda blew it up for comedic effect (i love spreading misinformation on the internet)
