  • A simple overview for removal of the lower unit for a 25hp 4 stroke Mercury Outboard.
    NOTE: You don't have to use tape on the linkage rod because there is room enough for the linkage connector to come through on this model. However, on some outboard model years this may not be the case and it's easy just to mark it with tape,. Then on the reinstall, just spin it down to the tape and you'll be lined up.

    I have same motor. Can t get fuel to the rail. Has spark even runs with me spraying starter fluid in it. Totally confused

      Clean out and check the VSR. Has a float switch like a carb. Plenty of videos on it.

    Did you remove the coupling after the dowel pin is removed? Hard to see in the video, but i cant imagine any other reason for taping the rod to mark the thread location.

    Does a new pin come with the inpeller?

    Would I be able to reuse the dowl pin?

      Dave, I have reused them before with no issues. As long as it's removed in a careful manner and fits back tight, you'll be good.
