After watching numerous videos covering abused children ive noticed a pattern. All most always the kids who experience such extremes show kindness to the people around them, especially other children. If you think about it a kid raised up in such an abusive home has to assume thats normal behavior so others must be suffering the same as they are. So I guess they try to share kindness with others so that theres at least one time to look forward to. I bet Caden was so brokenhearted to have school taken from him, it was the one bright spot in his life and to him school must have seemed like Heaven on earth.

@@lynneburridge9082 Its strange that when these kids are living in such a hellish environment that they are able to show so much kindness to others and then when they become adults many of them become the monster they used to hide from. I suspect theres some point between childhood and adulthood that if they receive the right kind of love and support they can get past that hell and have a happy life. If they dont get that love and support they grow into monsters. There just has to be a fork in their road

I agree with you: I can't fathom they didn't know. I will say, on their behalves, that I grew up in a highly abusive home, and my school pictures show me with a shy smile, but my sister always had the biggest smile in the classroom. The principal always gave her the nice teachers, so she loved school. She was always standing tall and smiling big, surrounded by much more bored-looking classmates. Still, we both had been taught to always look happy if we didn't want a beating from our mother. Mom angrily made fun of the timid way I walked, until I straightened my back and quickened my pace. I suspect that the boy was very quiet and filled with shy smiles most of the time, tears some of the time, and the reason the boy's classmates said "Sit by me!" is because they realized that the teacher knew he was being mistreated and felt sorry for him.

I think its horrific that people can have a kid say "i think somethings wrong with so and so" and NOT listen. Kids are observant and smarter than we give credit for. If a kid says something is wrong you should listen even if it seems improbable to you.
I remember a story from years ago that a little girl kept telling parents and teachers that one of her friends DIDNT fall down the stairs and break her arm. This other child was clumsy so everyone brushed it off...except one teacher. This teacher got the other girl in the room and asked about her arm. When told that someone said she didnt fall the girl broke down in tears and admitted her stepdad slammed her arm with a piece of concrete while laying her arm on the floor for dropping a bowl. That stepfather was investigated and arrested and several women he had dated/married before the girl's mom came out saying that their children ALSO had odd injuries but that they had been told by both him and their children that they were childhood playtime accidents(fell off the bed, tripped and broke their nose etc). Turns out he had a history of abusing kids and noone knew until the little girl's friend finally found an adult to listen.

Regardless of safe haven laws, a parent can call CPS and ask for help or relinquish custody of their child. However, parents like these aren't willing to let go of the control they have over their victim. Changing the safe haven laws to young child, or even teenager, isn't going to change the outcome for kids like Caden. These laws only work for parents who feel they are in over their heads, who feel they can't raise a child, and want to give that child a chance at a better life

From what I've learned talking to... well, lots of abuse victims, frankly (and being one myself), "old soul" is basically code for suffering. Which is to say, lots of kids who have "old souls" only seem that way because they've had to grow up faster as a result of abuse and/or neglect. Wish people would take that into account much more frequently - that if a kid seems significantly more mature for their age than their peers, that's a red flag.

Good seems to be targeted truly. My whole life i have witnessed evil win, over and over again. My daughter Lydia Ann Castaneda was the target of evil too, Kenna Dufresne took her away and has been hiding her from me for 14 years now.. My daughter Lydia Ann Castaneda was taken away from me when she was only 9 months old. Her father Nathan Marcotte tried to strangle me one night but Lydia screamed. He decided to take her upstairs telling me to stay there (on the living room floor). But I ran down the street to a bar crying for 911. The cops got to me and we went back to the house and both he and Lydia were gone. The cops had to go out and find them and the owner of the apartment his mother Kenna Dufresne. They found Kenna and Lydia and Nathan, Nathan was threatening to jump off a bridge with Lydia and grabbed Lydia from him and arrested him. All in police records in Lincoln RI. The police brought Lydia to me and Kenna to the house and left us there after telling me about the bridge incident. Then Kenna asks "what are you going to do now? You can't stay here, you can't go back to his father's, and Lydia can't stay on the streets." I said I don't know.. she added "she can stay with me. Write a letter giving me temporary guardianship and dcyf won't have to get involved." That was alarming but she got convincing and I finally wrote the letter. We got it notorized and I left the house.. I went straight to Exeter job corps Academy to get on my feet as fast as possible!! But she filed abandonment charges and got dcyf involved. A social worker got involved and she was not interested in hearing anything from me at all. Insisted that I only cared about myself, I did not deserve my daughter she said. It took months to get to the court date and I brought that letter. The charges were dropped the minute the judge read it. Then the social worker took Kenna down to the second floor of the Providence court house and got "permission to leave the state with Lydia." Without needing my permission. And she did, she left the state with my daughter! The courts said they couldn't do anything, the police claimed giving her temporary guardianship basically gave her the right to keep her forever, literally no one believes that yet that is exactly what they told me in RI. I tried to find her myself and hired a PI. The private investigator said she saw a picture of my daughter on social media and it was at a restaurant in Liberty Main, it had a bulldog on a wall inside but that was all she could get as far as her whereabouts. Kenna has been refusing any form of contact for the entire 14 years. Except for a recent incident where she had asked me for $300 still refusing contact. she's 15 years old and never once did we get to even speak to each other and she should be home with me! I have sent Kenna Dufresne my number my address I never changed the number I have had since, 4012047691, I sent this to Kenna Dufresne constantly, constantly, she's even had my profiles reported for harassment just refusing to let my baby come back home! I need this to get out there, Lydia needs to know her mom is fighting for her! Please share this everywhere, please help me reach my daughter! 🙏

You can tell that the DA didn't want to have those plea deals, but she also knew that without a cause of death to confirm, doubt could form with a jury, which the opposing side could foster. That could have (likely) resulted in much lighter sentences. The plea deals seem to have been the best option they had to secure a punishment. It's not ideal, but those 30 and 70+ years in jail are better than getting some light sentence like 5 or so years for a lesser charge. Again, it's not ideal, but it does seem like the DA wanted a more severe punishment for these monsters, and wanted something to stick rather than risking a lighter sentence.

All these stories could have been prevented with the proper services and care by professionals and the intervening if necessary. His death could have been prevented but people turned away and ignored the signs most likely because he was a 'happy boy'.
Let this be a lesson always follow your instincts, if something feels off.. it most likely is.
I should make it clear, if a person kills another person they deserve to face life long prison time or death for taking the life of someone else.

It sounds just like my MIL. She worked afternoon type jobs, on purpose, so she could leave her dysfunctional home life. Unfortunately, she would leave behind her 4 very young children in the care of a drunk & violently abusive father. The stories my hubby tells would make your hair curl. She KNEW that he was drunk, often passed out, & violent. There were broken bones, kids driven drunk, hours of unsupervised hell. My FIL even left my hubby when he was just a little 4 yr old at a park miles away because he was too high/drunk to remember to collect ALL 4 kids. My husband talks about lying in bed crying, while waiting for his mommy to come home - never understanding that she purposefully left them so 'she didn't go crazy' dealing with the situation. Horrible excuse for a mother. She had a job & lots of family that would have helped them. her excuse? "she didn't want to hear I told you so" from her mother (concerning her choice in husband). @@cynthiamartin2197 I completely agree, when they mentioned not wanting to go trial based on Caden's loved ones it made no sense. Clearly he had no true loved ones if no one even cared he was gone or being abused. Same with the school that abuse was going for a while and apparently they noticed absolulty nothing despite them claiming Caden was a memorable student.
To be a little fair if the aunt was not close with the sister (considering who her sister is that is probably the case) then it is probable she hardly sees the kids. She probably still cared but they weren't her kids and her sister was insane so she likely backed off. Thus, her not noticing him missing makes some sense but what I can't understand is not calling for a welfare check. She knew these people were living hotel to hotel room and that her sister had been beaten by the husband so why not call cps or for a welfare check. It might not have done anything and cps is garbage aswell but still at least to have tried just in case. I truely don't believe the abuse only started after the eviction.

    • @cynthiamartin2197
      @cynthiamartin2197 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@finnsnow2495 That’s a good point about the sister; knowing the situation with the husband she most likely kept her distance. I agree, the sister not calling does not make sense; even if family members are separated due to conflict within or with spouses’ some family members will extend themselves for the sake of the children. Living hotel to hotel had to be stressful for the family; the mother left at 6:30 in the morning to return twelve hours later, I wonder how exhausted she was each night, and did she notice much if hubby was the main caregiver? I don’t believe the abuse started after the eviction either; the timeline of his withdrawal from school and the coroner’s report suggest it was ongoing prior to removal from school. If Caden was enrolled in school, he would have spent less time in the sperm donor’s presence, less stress for the murderer. Home schooling can be an added stressor, and it doesn’t make sense to sign a child out which leads me to believe that when they signed him out Caden had passed, and they were trying to cover up his murder.

I have said it once and I will say it again, as a rule the worst cases of child abuse have a woman right in the center of it! How can you carry a child in your womb and despise that child so much as to torture them to death!

Ladies, choose your partners wisely, get to know them very well before having a child. Poverty, lack of education, drugs, alcohol and abuse are sure recipes for disaster. There are too many cases like this.

But in this case the mother was just as evil as the father. Starving her own child, leaving him alone with the monster who was abusing him. Not only did she not stop any of it, she simply laid there in bed while her child cried out that he was hot and thirsty under a blanket while inside of a dog kennel. She is JUST as bad as her husband and should've gotten a much harsher sentence!!

What a system failure to that boy. Should it not be a process in place for authority following up for a kid that is removed from school? God bless the soul of this little boy that was killed the moment he was taken away from public side. He was kill slowly until he could not take it any more. My professional work for a few years involved interfacing with CPS and dealing with parents in crisis. Whenever I had to deal with young people who were heavy drug users and had children, part of me wanted to just yell at them to let their kids go and spend their lives taking drugs if that's what they want to do. It always felt so weird to me that people who don't give a flying f*** about their children would pretend that it was some kind of complicated emotional thing losing control of them or having them taken away.
This drives me nuts because, on and off during my life, I have used tons of drugs. I don't judge people for drug use. But you can't be a drug user and have children. You just can't. It's not going to work. Ugh!
I love your channel by the way. Sometimes it makes me yell.

My aunt was a foster parent for 20 years for "troubled kids from broken homes". We thought that was a blessing, but it turns out that over those 20 years, she abused 12 different girls and 2 boys. It started with a family of 4 siblings, youngest was only 4 yrs old and the oldest about 12 or 14, something like that. The youngest out of the entire 14 kids was a newborn. My aunt convinced everyone these kids were just acting out because she was strict. But they had no freedom and were homeschooled. Three different girls had run away over the years, including the 4yr old from the first family of siblings, who was a teen when she ran away. Two of the three were given back to my aunt, no questions asked, no investigations done. That 4 yr old grew up thinking it was okay to help abuse the others. The third girl that ran away was 12 yrs old, special needs. Not the first special needs my aunt took in either. But that girl ran to her bio family and told them she feared my aunt's "punishment". An investigation was done. Beds without mattresses smeared in human waste, remnants of duct tape restraints on the beds, horrible living conditions. But the worst to me was the thousands of photos of these girls in various states of undressed and positions were found on my aunt's computer. She lived across the street from her own mother, sister and brother, and none of them knew this because my grandma refused to accept those kids as her grandkids because they weren't blood. 20 yrs. Ive had to listen to the same thing since i was 16 with the first family of 4 sibs. "Dont listen to them. They're just mad at the strict rules." "Dont believe them, they're troubled kids." Even my mom told me this, and being a child myself, i was bullied into ignoring them. I regret ignoring them. If i spoke up sooner and stood firm, i could have protected the other kids. My aunt was arrested, nearly 2 million bond, but thanks to covid and convincing so many family members and newlywed husband she did nothing wrong, she made bail and is free. It never finished trial and those kids only got "im sorry that we (the system) failed you" from the judge. Each time those girls reached 18 and could legally leave, they left so quickly and got married and/or have kids immediately, just to "feel human again" after what my aunt did. I will always feel horrible for not speaking up and defending those poor kids. But i refuse to accept my mom's side of the family after that. For her own mother to ignore what was happening across the street from her....just because they weren't blood? And to top it off, when i asked my mom if it was true my aunt was arrested, she snapped on me. "If you believe those liars, then you're not family." I deleted all contact info, removed her from my fb, and blocked her, on mother's day. Im not the same scared 16 yr old child you can intimidate and bully. Those kids did not deserve that for that many years. And the original family of siblings are all in their 30's now, except the youngest, with families of their own. And the youngest that helped my aunt hurt the others got married and had a baby before she was 20. And the sad part, when she found out she was having a boy, she got angry. She was conditioned into thinking it was okay to hurt a girl and continue what she was doing to her own kid. When it was a boy, she couldnt get away with hurting him. And my aunt threatened that girl, saying she would regret it if she spoke out against my aunt, so she retracted her statement about the abuse. Its so disgusting and i hope all of those kids, young and old, get justice and also get help with their trauma.

my mother was a dysfunctional loser alcoholic with no job, never had a job the whole 29 years i knew her, hit me viciously starting from age 2, screamed at me daily, bullied me, neglected us all, deprived us of everything... i always feel like my community failed me, someone should have come and saved us, i still don't know why no one did.

Full disclosure, I'm a recovering drug addict (I just celebrated my ten year anniversary). The cases like this one-- drugged out parents, methed out mom, etc etc,-- scare me the most. I could have been one of these moms, in theory. If i didn't have such a good support network around me, i could have allowed someone awful to watch my sons.
I''m thankful for my sobriety every single day. Don't do drugs, kids. Don't drink alcohol. _Alcohol_ is the *real* "gateway drug."
