After owning a GMT and OP for almost 10 years I wanted to get myself a Hulk for my 60th birthday, about 2 weeks later I came across a page about high end clones and decided to give it a try. Once came I compared it to my original GMT (in terms of quality, feeling of the steel etc), I understood one thing, China can't be beaten. There is no chance ANYONE will be able to spot it as a fake, Even the inside movement is identical. Speaking on overrated watches? Well, basically any model of those "Swiss" brands.

The Seamaster 300M is, in no way, overrated. To even suggest that is ridiculous. I mean if you don't like how it looks, or some design features aren't to your liking, fine; however, that's not the same as being overrated. The Seamaster 300M is as good, if not better, than the Rolex Submariner when comparing specs down the line, yet the Submariner costs twice as much at MSRP (and good luck getting one at an AD) and the Submariner also trades at roughly three times as much on the grey market. If the Seamaster 300M was overrated one couldn't easily buy it and it would be way more expensive both at MSRP and at grey market prices.

@@jimlittle5769 actually it's becoming increasingly obvious (unfortunately) that you hsould pay more for the rolex rather than the omega because the rolex appreciates. most people dont have money to burn and saying that 5k on the omega losses you 2k while 10 on the rolex might gain you 2-3k just makes it a stupid decision financially to buy the omega. obviously there a lot involved in getting a rolex at a reasonable price but at the end of the day many people buying high end watches think of them as gold jewelery osmething that DOESNT LOSE VALUE in the long run. I love omega more than rolex but i cant justify buying somehting for 6000 doallrs thats going to lose value when i can buy somehting for 10-12000 dollars that wont lose value and might gain some. I wish omega became a bit more limited in their production so the watches hold value better because Im not a rich man I cant lose 2-3000 dollars everytime i buy a watch. Most overrated watches right now...
    1) Anything made by Rolex, especially steel professional models (prices are ridiculous for what the actual watch is and does).
    2) AP Royal Oak (just because your favourite rapper/actor/sports star/TH-camr wears one doesn't mean it's worth the hype).
    3) Patek Nautilus and Aquanaut models (they're nice watches, but Patek's legacy wasn't built on simple steel watches. Let the Tiffany hype train go - for the asking prices of these, go buy one of Patek's complications instead and thank me later).
    4) Gerald Charles watches (Gerald Genta had nothing to do with the watch. It's way overpriced. Let the man rest in peace).
    5) Richard Mille (anything that ugly and toylike looking shouldn't be THAT expensive).
    6) Omega Speedmaster Professional (Omega sent A watch to the moon. They didn't send YOUR watch to the moon).
    7) Anything made by Rolex especially steel professional models (they're so over-hyped that it's worth including them twice).

Sounds like you hate your hobby 😂 Agree mostly, although I disagree with the "all" Rolex part. The price associated with Rolex is ridiculous, but if you remove price from the equation, Rolex objectively make some of the best stainless steel sports watches in the world.
And the Speedmaster is an amazing watch, but I agree with how aggressively the moon story is pushed

    • @neilmartin7776

@@m.e.p.r I love the hobby which is why I'm so aggressive with people just using watches to make a fast buck instead of appreciating the craftsmanship and history 😅
Regards Rolex, I agree - they make some of the best SS sports watches on the market - period. (Although I'll also argue that Omega have been catching up noticeably in the past 5 years and may even match them now in some cases.) However, the prices Rolex are going for is above and beyond the quality. They'll always be expensive and desirable because of that quality, but the movements, simplicity and lack of aesthetic refinement do not justify the hype money that's now being asked.
(Btw, when I say 'lack of aesthetic refinement ', I mean simple - if very well done - finishing on the cases and dials, and the extreme simplicity of the overall design.)

    • @m.e.p.r

@@neilmartin7776 I think there is also a case to say that the current RRP associated with Rolex is undervalued. Rolex occupies its own financial microclimate, with similarities to the real estate market in many ways. Any other luxury brand would have raised its prices significantly over the last 3 yrs, but Rolex, being effectively run as a trust/charity, have not. Personally I think the RRP for most Rolex are incorrect.
Anyway, it's all horribly subjective isn't it? One man's trash etc.

No the Rolex RRP isn't undervalued at all. Average luxury consumer can't shell out 20 grand USD or more for a watch.
I think Omega and Breitling probably have the most reasonable RRP for what they offer in the luxury watch industry.

It's great to hear your take on these watches Teddy. The Omega Seamaster 300M is a watch that I do not think is overrated at all. The co-axial movement, ceramic dial and a brilliant bracelet. This watch needs to be seen in the flesh and photographs and some videos do not do it justice. I wasn't a fan of the wavy dial until I saw one at the AD and walked out with it. I've never seen anything like it actually, I've been very active in many different YT communities but for whatever reason in the watch hobby there are these people who's life passion is ruining the hobby for innocent people. YES to everything Teddy said about Omega SMP300! Imho, it's the GOAT diver, and have bought it twice. METAS, coaxial in-house monster movement with a ten year service interval, ZrO2, etc. Can't mess with the specs. Sure, the helium valve is certainly a polarizing design choice, which is why there's also the Seamaster 300 without it for the vintage look. Personally, I love the helium valve, so sporty---but no question, the SMP300 isn't for everyone. I do find it interesting that nobody else has made a serious run at that price-point...Breitling below, MM300 below, BB below, Sub above, GO and Fifty Fathoms well above, but nobody wants to take a shot at the king of $5k:)

I would just like to add one thing about CasiOak. It is incredibly light! One thing that's been largely UNDERRATED is the weight of the watch. Especially if you are looking for an everyday beater watch, you're gonna want it to be more appropriate in terms of size AND WEIGHT.
Also, I would like to see in your videos more mentioning of the weight of the watches, if it's possible. Thank you, I'm looking forward for more of your content.

Sinn is an iconic brand with iconic designs IMO. Those are the two most important characteristics of any watch brand for most people IMO. The intangible that makes one watch worth so much more than another. Specs are way less important. Sure Sinn has been successfully raising prices but comparing their "value" to the lesser midrange German watch brands is futile. When you are a weaker brand you need to offer more specs for the money, of course.

I love watches and respect anyone who buys, wears and collects watches they like for whatever reasons. I am not into Richard Mille, but I do respect the materials, unique designs, and all of that. The Tiffany OP is also in my opinion not worth the 35k they are currently trading for, but I guess it depends. If you make or have real money, want to have some fun with the Tiffany dial while it's popular, the Rolex OP is relatively cheap and much more available than the Patek. Also, anyone who says Rolex sports watches are over rated, go to your local AD, checkout some of the display models, put them on your wrist, wind them, check out the clasp and bracelet, and then ask the retail price. I am sorry, but non of them are over rated, and at retail no other brand in my opinion comes close to what Rolexs offers. Are they worth the secondary market prices, not for me, but that doesn't mean they are over rated.

The whole overrated watch problem can be tied to social media influencers and celebrities. Richard Mille is the best example. I just don't get the brand. I saw one recently that had what looked like a rubber elastic band for a strap and it was over $300 k. It makes sense from an investment standpoint and that's it. The Omega Seamaster Professional 300 m is a nice watch up close. The hour markers are similar to what you'd see in a submariner or blue pelagos. The Damasko DS30 is always used to put down the 556i because the DS30 has marginally better specs and supposedly costs $1k (on a strap) vs $1.5k for the 556i (on a bracelet). That price gap no longer exists. The DS30 is discontinued, but you can get the new DK30 for 1.4k, but only on a strap. Want a bracelet? That’s another $600. Yeah, it’s ice hardened with an in-house movement. Amazing value, but so what? It’s a tool watch with a bead blasted case and a funky crosshair design. Not nearly as versatile as the 556i, which is plenty rugged and has 200m WR. Personally, I’ll take the versatility of the 556i over the less attractive DK30 and it’s unnecessary specs.
