    To echo another comment - although this video is slick, smooth and systematic - it is more of a showcase of your skill and ability to whizz through the start-up checklist on this aircraft during an event free engine start. What would be of MUCH more interest would be some details and meanings of each gauge and avoid using any abbreviations - those of us that are student pilots would value what are the KPIs and abort points during start-up. Small point - people also love to hear the engine during start-up.

    • @PilotYellow
      @PilotYellow  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jonas Becsan it cut the first word of what I said but I said I want to bring it up to 2000rpm. That would be engine rpm. Yes you were correct it was at 1230.

    • @jonmabec
      @jonmabec 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PilotYellow Aha! So if i understand it correctly, it's the engine RPM you bring up to 2000 when doing the magneto checks. How much leeway do you have? Does it needs to be exactly 2000 or is it acceptable to have it give or take 100rpm?

    • @PilotYellow
      @PilotYellow  6 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @LMF5000
    @LMF5000 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    One thing I don't understand - your power/torque gauge seems to just respond to collective position rather than actual power and torque, correct? If it was measuring actual power or torque, it should have read zero when you raised the collective with the engine off, because there was no power being generated by the engine.
    Also, does this heli run Plasma and magnetos in parallel? Is that why you have two switches?

  • @richardchan1634

    When I long press the frequency switch button, the primary frequency would switch to 121.5. I found there is no way to change it to another frequency during the flight, even though input another frequency in the standby box and switch over. It always reverts back to 121.5. How to change to another frequency under this situation during the flight?

    I am a complete novice on this topic just want to know why is there such an extensive checklist in today's highly automation tuned era? Or has the checklist already modernised since the 60's? Again I'm a noob; just wanting to know if automation has already cut down on the checklist procedure for startup and will it ever reach a vehicle level of simplicity of just turning the key's and checking the corners?

    • @AIRSOFTMMASKATEBEAST
      @AIRSOFTMMASKATEBEAST 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It likely won't, because systems in helicopters and other aircraft can fail, such as gauges, pumps, etc, and it would take a human to notice that since a system that has failed is not going to always detect its own failure. Mechanical issues can also present themselves that may look normal but for that specific flight condition is abnormal, such as having a very high manifold pressure while not pulling much collective, which could be a multitude of issues. This helicopter is very very modern in terms of the way it displays information, compared to for example a Robinson R22. No matter what, there still has to be a preflight done before startup and all the systems monitored during startup to make sure they're functioning normally, and with helicopter parts that wear quickly and that you're trusting your life to, the least I can do is inspect and check it myself. I've found quite a few issues during pre flights, and some abnormal stuff during startup. You could never fully automate that.

    I know it's been a few years ago this was posted, but if you do see this comment, Pilot Yellow, tell me; is that rotor rotating clockwise and not the usual counter clockwise? If so, that would make this a terrible helicopter to learn in here in the US. As a CFII-MEI, one thing you learn day one of the Laws of Learning is first learned best remembered (The Law of Primacy) . It's difficult to overcome that and every other helicopter would react just the opposite aerodynamically from this. Your thoughts?

      Chet Meyerson have you ever seen or flown an Astar? Any European helicopter rotates clockwise. That means all airbus helicopters. It’s actually fantastic experience to learn both clockwise and counter clockwise rotating rotor systems.

      @@PilotYellow No, actually I have over 10,000 hrs (1000 hrs dual given) and only ONE in helicopters :) An R-22 and that was enough for me :). Now I'm retired and thinking of learning to fly these things if one can learn to do so at almost 70 (another topic entirely). I did not realize just how many rotate clockwise vs counter so you being the experienced instructor says it a good thing to learn both, then I would not argue. Thanks for the reply!! Chet

      Chet Meyerson ah that makes sense. I thought you were CFII in helicopters. Coming from a Fixed wing background that makes perfect sense. Yes it’s a very valuable skill to have.

      Pilot Yellow Thank you. Maybe I’ll fly to you to learn the ways of rotorcraft:).

    I didn't see you make sure the rotor brake was off...........?

    Nice video as always:) Just a question for a R22 pilot, why do you lift up and down the collective to inject the fuel at the beginning? Would not just rolling be sufficient? Thanks

      Twisting throttle on the R22 does NOT introduce fuel. Raising the collective does. Your CFI teaching you wrong. CORRILATOR.

    What's the plasma switch for ?

    • @PilotYellow
      @PilotYellow  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is dual ignition in the helicopter. One magneto and one electronic plasma ignition.

    Thx… I wonder how many views you’ll get in the next days after the Flight sim 2020 Update with this Helicopter 😂

    What is the "plasma" referring to?

    • @PilotYellow
      @PilotYellow  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      SmarT Odd we have one magneto and one electronic ignition system. The electric ignition is called the Plasma.

    I am surprised to see a Carb Heat switch, I would have thought a modern helicopter like the Cabri would be fuel injected.
