Update: You can paint weights for just one side of a symmetrical object and the other side will be painted automatically if you use the Symmetry setting (go to Active Tool and turn on X Mirror), although it works only for brush/blur/smear tools, not for gradient. So after one side is done you can copy it over to the other side as it is shown in this video: th-cam.com/video/i9BaAhrt1yo/w-d-xo.html (weights painted with gradient will be copied as well)
Another quick way to make symmetrical weights: paint one side, delete half of the object, add a Mirror modifier, and the weights will copy correctly. You can also do this before painting the weights.

help: when i use mirror, the weights move symetricaly, so if i move a bone, the other side also move, i dont want that! how do i fix it

What if I need to animate the eyes and lips do I need to use the same meta rig
I just finished the monster modeling from you tutorial I want to try to rigging it but I don't know how, I show you remove all the mirror modified but about the eyes.. It's show a message like I 'can't remove the mirror', so I just don't know how to continue with rigging... Please let me know what should I do ?
I grouped all of the body but when i move the head the snout and nose stay behind, how do I fix it? Only happens in pose mode
Also when i try to curve the tail it disconnects from the body and starts getting smaller

Sadly the mirror function doesnt work when I edit the weights on my character. Mirroring is enabled, but it only paints on one side of the x axis. 😢
Does anyone know how to join the mouth with the rest of it after changing it to mesh? When I try it glitches the model out
After I set the automatic weights if I move a section it moves a huge part of my mesh.

In the downloadable version of you model, why is both arms moving at the same time, and why is both legs moving at the same time???

From 14:35 I'm unable to select the bone with Cltr + LMB. I'm using Blender 3.3.1
I'm answering myself after a long research: "In 2.93 and 3.0 to enable this you must select the armature; shift select the mesh; and then enter weight paint mode. "

Ok. I waded through your fox character modeling (had to set the playback speed to .5 however). I was really proud of myself. I was so excited to learn how to rig the little fellow. Unfortunately I am only 2.39 minutes into this rigging tutorial and have no idea what you mean by "We can only keep the Subdivision modifier". When I delete the mirror modifier (as you appear to have done) the head for instance, it deletes the mirror. Can you please explain further?
I didn't delete the mirror modifier, I applied it (Ctrl+A)
@@KseniaStarkova Thank you. In edit mode Ctrl+A does something different in vertex mode so I was confused. I am not really great with shortcuts. Getting there with your help though.
