yeah, saw some reactions in the last weeks and all are giving some mediocre ratings, just to not piss of their viewers who wanted the reaction, even if they didn´t lie it at all.
and then there are people like me that love the movie and would easily giv it a 5/5, as it, without a doubt, is one of the best scifi movies ever made ^^
don´t understand why it gets so much hate from so many people

Because this is one of the silliest movies ever. There is a difference between "does not take itself seriously" and just plain silly and idiotic. Reactors can't say anything negative about it, to not lose subscribers. Usually this kind of movies are turned off after 10 minutes. But I guess when it is big budget and known cast, people will not hate. Hate is reserved towards other movies, with much less known cast and directors, and lower budget

I must write that the film was shot in 1997. And it was truly revolutionary.
Back then no one filmed like that. He made a whole bunch of TV series and films in a similar style.
But it is still a wonderful example... Now such a plot is not surprising, but in 1997 this had not yet happened.

Valerian: The City of a Thousand Planets is the movie Luc Besson wanted to make when he first made The Fifth Element, but the technology didn't yet exist. So doing the best with what was available at the time, he made this, definitely revolutionary in its own way and for its time. If you watch Valerian you can see the same DNA. Both movies were based off the same source material, a graphic novel.

This movie came at a time when people were anticipating the new (prequel) Star Wars movies (and the Special Editions were just released), looking back fondly on movies like Blade Runner, and CG was just starting to get somewhat realistic looking. For sc-fi cinema nerds (like myself), this movie was a tall glass of water in the desert, especially for the guys - it had futuristic/cyberpunk sci-fi, Bruce Willis playing Die Hard in Space, a Gary Oldman villain, a fantasy element, aliens, a sense of humor and sexy girls everywhere. It was the perfect late 90's sci-fi action movie. It was like Star Wars for kids who were now 20-something kids.
Now, it seems like not such a big deal, after so many great similar movies just as good or better that have come out since... but at the time this was really impressive... and needed.
Cinematically speaking - FX might be a bit dated but still some the best sound design ever and an excellent soundtrack to boot. And the scene choreography/editing is just always fun to watch.

It's helpful to understand that the movie is by Luc Besson. His French influence to this production gives it a Cirque du Soleil flavor. It's performance art disguised as a movie. It's not everyone's cup of tea and many who love the movie don't even make this connection. But, I just like to point it out as this movie has been an acquired taste for me, despite my baked in bias for all things French. Also, don't take it too seriously. It's still just a movie.

Luc Besson (the writer director) wrote this in high school as a hero taxi driver cause his dad had a second job driving a taxi. 13:00 Bruce Willis adlibbed this line. The director didn’t tell Bruce that Mila was going to be speaking a different language in the cab. 25:48 if you watch Bruce Willis during the “All Night Long” song he’s trying not to laugh at Chris Tucker. 28:57 I love how his mom finds him wherever he goes. 30:16 the look on Bruce Willis’s face was genuine. He hadn’t heard the song before and was moved by the song and performance. The woman on stage is lipsyncing and practiced 30 times a day for three months to get it right. Luc Besson’s fiancé at the time got the role cause the original actress didn’t show up. The creatures helping Zorg are Mangalores and their animatronics were reused in Star Wars Episode 1 for the Neimoidians.

The language is great, it has an “interesting” story too- the director Besson came up with it and worked on the language with Leeloo’s actress Mila Jovovich who helped refine it so they could have full conversations with the about 400 words. To practice it they had conversations on set (that no one else understood)… which led to them flirting in the language… and then Besson left his wife for Jovovich. Biss, you said it yourself. You have ALREADY seen a lot of sci fi comedy. This movie struck a chord WHEN it came out as there was no movie before that was anything like this. Milla Jovovich (Leloo) became an action star after this. That performance by the Diva struck a chord with fans. The song is now performed by orchestras and sopranos around the world. Italian, Chinese, Eastern European orchestras covering the performance. The Diva’s song sung by contestants auditioning for talent shows around the world to show their vocal abilities. Biss, you are “Very Beautiful”😜.

Also the actress married the film maker. Milia Jovovich and Luc Besson. They together invented the language that Lelu speaks and would talk to each other on set in that language.

My favorite reactress watching one of my most favorite movies. Incredible. I remember that while watching this in the theater when it first came out, I thought to myself "if I could watch this movie for the rest of my life, and do nothing else, I would die a happy man".
Great job, Biss. You made this fun to watch again.

The problem here is that you're seeing this film in 2024 having experienced far better film production. This film came out in 1997, and other films of that year are: Good Will Hunting, L.A. Confidential, Boogie Nights, Donnie Brasco, and Starship Troopers to list a few. The 5th Element was unlike anything else that came out that year, or the years prior. It was something new, and as a result it is something a lot of us remember fondly having seen it in the theater when it was released. I remember the theater being packed, and everyone loving it. All of us would have given it a 5 Star rating. None of us thought it was "average". That's where perspective is different between those of us who saw it when it was released, and those who see it today having experienced many other "wilder" films. That's why I gave it 5 stars. Milla Jovovich can also be seen in the Resident Evil films, and has a bit role in Dazed & Confused.

A lot of Jinjer videos seem to have homages classic scifi movies. In the case of The Fifth Element, feel like one of Tati's hairstyles in I Speak Astronomy was inspired by Zorg's hair, while her hair in Ape was inspired by one of Ruby Rhod's.

It's nothing revolutionary, but still a fun watch. A little trivia: Luc Besson wrote the screenplay when he was about 16. Ngl, that pretty damn impressed me!

One problem I have with this movie is that a big part is when Leeloo finally looked up “war” she gave up, humanity was unsavable, even though she had already seen terms like “atomic bomb” or “torture” or “holocaust” earlier in alphabetical order.

For me personally it's a blast of the past, comedic 90s movie. Along with the Mummy, George of the jungle, Austin Powers and so long :)

At the time when this came out, Bruce Willis was a box office dynamo, like everything he was in, he was knocking out of the park. One of the previous movies he previously was in Armageddon and it was a world hit. So then came a running joke, about any movie that he was in, (What is he going to do to save the planet this time?) It was a strange coincidence that Hollywood seemed to hear what people were talking about, so they decided to answer that question, by putting out this movie.

37:35 Curious that Leeloo is doing this research in _English._ Spanish, Italian and French relate "War" in the G's. German relates it in the the K's. In any of _these_ languages, she would've encountered all this a _while_ ago.

In a way the character who best matched the overall tone of the film was Ruby Rod; he was OTT (over the top), a bit frustrating but still entertaining so long as you don't think too much. As an aside, I recall that Luc Besson, the director, developed this story as a teenager and to be honest every film he has directed has had something a bit askew about it almost hinting that he hasn't really grown up yet.
