"He's a prick, but he's our prick!" - A very shiny comment :)
"Pdddrrrrreeeeeek! PdddRrrrrEEEEEEEEKK!"
One of us! One of us!
The three stages of "I'm a leaf on the wind."
1. "Hell yes you are!"
2. "Ha ha ha!"
3. "NOOOOOOOOO!!!!"
how does a reaver clean it's spear? he sends it thru the wash.
@@adamskeans2515 Too soon. It will never not be too soon.
That emotional turn was f'n fantastic. I laughed out loud on that one.
@@rudewalrus5636 lol, couldn't resist
@@adamskeans2515 Ohhhh! That's terrible! You're a rotten person! 🤣
Jayne is OURRRRR PRRRREEEEEEK!!! Indeed he is!!
Did you notice after Jayne basically said he's in and took a drink, he passed the bottle to Simon? Jayne just acknowledged that Simon is really part of his crew.
And Simon willingly drank from a bottle that had been anywhere near Jayne's mouth instead of treating it like a biohazard. Progress for both of them.
I remember watching a special feature that discussed that scene. Each of the characters were supposed to give a speech on why they were on board for Mal's final mission. Then someone (probably Nathan...let's be honest) pointed out that if Jayne, the epitome of self-service, was willing to risk his life and at the same time share a bottle with the hated Simon, what else needed to be said?
Yeah, that very simple exchange conveyed so much meaning. For the first time, I think they saw each other as equals.
42:48 "Love keeps her in the air when she oughtta fall down."
You ever notice how Nathan Fillion was looking right at the camera when he delivered that line? That was a message to the fans that this movie only existed because of their incredible passion and love for the series. New Browncoats everyday.
Oh thats great, didn't notice it no
"Did you see how her face changed?" Yep. Morena Baccarin's a really good actress, and stunningly beautiful to boot.
Same with Chiwetel Ejiofor when he sees the Reaver army.
@@crapstirrer I agree. He's awesome also. I mean, let's face it, the show was filled with great actors.
"She's tore up, plenty. But she'll fly true."
Zoe was speaking as much about herself, as Serenity.
And Mal was asking about both, really.
"I aim to misbehave." is a pretty dope quote from this
"She is damaging my calm" is not only my favorite Jayne quote, but it's up there for one of my favorite quotes period.
and it's complementary to "enhance your calm" from demolition man 😉
I use it as much as I can
One of my favourite quotes from Firefly is, "it's just a moment in time, step aside and let it happen". I use this often. :)
A lot of Jayne quotes are on a level with Amos Burton quotes from The Expanse.
"I aim to misbehave."
That look River gives Zoe during the bank heist "You mean that guy?" "Yeah that guy!" cracks me up every time :)
Sheppard Book's dying words, "I don't care what you believe boy, just believe."
Of the many excellent quotes, this is my favorite quote of the entire series and movie.
The movie was how I was introduced to the series. Seeing the series would have probably been better, but I’m just glad I’ve seen it all.
Same
me 2
Same. I never heard of the TV series or the movie. It just happened to be on one of the movie channels we had and I wound up watching it and loving it, then watching the tv series after.
Happy Birthday Bisscute!
Every reaction channel loves "I'm a leaf on the wind" till leaf on the wind things happen .
Too Soon.
@@alansonoda I agree, but it's true
@@alansonodawe all still feel it.
I love Kaylee talking to Simon as he and River are leaving Serenity. She is trying to feed him as much wisdom as she can in less than a minute.
Her laugh is fantastic 😂
The rest ain't half bad either.
Yea she's a dream
When the Operative said "you're not a Reaver, Mal," that gave him the idea for his plan, and he immediately moved to implement that plan. Crazy plan, but it worked!
One last time, we aim to misbehave...Browncoats Unite! ✊✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
I don't know how being called a prick could sound so adorable, but you pulled it off!
You're not alone in your thoughts of how Wash got it. Every one had the same reaction, but yours was the most genuine.
Had the series not been canceled during its 1st season, they would've explored more back stories.
I think it funny but Part of me wishes see she wouldnt say it I still love thow
"He's a prrrick, but he's our prrrick!"😘
I was invited by some friends to see the movie. They didn't find out until afterward that I'd never heard of the show. I spent that weekend with the couple having a Firefly marathon since they owned the DVD's.
My point is: It's just fine as a standalone movie. They did well giving enough background in the movie. Obviously, it's BETTER with the additional background from the show but I enjoyed it without that info.
Unfortunately, it did not get enough buzz, and therefore ticket sales, from non-Browncoats to earn them a sequel or renewal of the series.
That sounds like a great way to spend time with friends.
I love how through the film the lighting they use for Mal is almost always partially in the dark, but when he regains his faith in something, River in this case, he's fully lit in those scenes
Everyone wants to know what Shepherd Brooks backstory is when he standing there and talking to Mel about how the alliance is going to come and get him Shepherd was talking from experience. Shepherd used to be an operative for the alliance. That’s how he knew about how things were going to work out
My brother watched the TV series then the movie. He brought me and our parents to see the movie without our having seen any episodes of the series or knowing anything about it and we 3 all loved the movie as a standalone piece.
I love the single take when they introduced the crew of Serenity.
Whedon said there was a single, CGI cut when they moved "below decks" because the set was one level (the whip pan from Mal to Simon), but I think it's an even more amazing scene for being able to hide it so well.
I completely lost it with how you reacted to the subliminal message (octopus under the blouse) scene. Was laughing at that for a while. Told my brother how you reacted and he was howling for a bit too. Good one! 😄😄
"Mal is so smart" Yes, he is.
You are the best ! You really pay attention, catching the little plot points others miss… like when You remembered that River said “They never lay down” and realized she was referring to the people of Miranda. I came to your channel because you’re cute (“Bisscute”), stayed because you’re funny, and subscribed because you are so damned smart, alert, and aware as you react !
As an old spaceman who loves Firefly myself; Biss, you are delightful and would make a wonderful member of any ships crew.
They were hoping to make more movies, but the actors for Wash and Sheppard couldn't guarantee that they could play in those, so they had to kill them off. It's super sad when he died, but him dying like that really puts you in the mindset that anyone of them could die.
Weirdly I saw the movie before the series. Of course I immediately went and bought the series right after. Great reactions to the whole thing Biss.
Great reaction.
The Miranda story line was supposed to be at the end of season 2.
Book's death was to help Mal find belief in a cause. Wash's death was to show how deadly the situation is. It was also reported that Alan and Ron couldn't commit to additional possible movies.
Book's back story can be found in a comic book called A Shepard's Tale.
Inara had a secret. It was explored in a book called Life Signs.
Is it the same one that she spoke about at that convention? I'm trying not to spoil anything to those who wish to find other content.
Yes. Same one that was stated at a convention
In case no one else has mentioned it yet, Wash was killed off because the actor couldn’t commit to multiple Firefly movies, and at the time they were hoping to make more than one. So they didn’t have much of a choice, but they did give him a great sendoff, I think. He’s a leaf on the wind …
That.... and Joss Whedon loves to kill beloved characters. He does it at every opportunity: Doyle, Coulson, etc.
As an added bonus, it gave the impression that it was going to be a Wild Bunch ending.
Same reason for the demise of Shepherd Book.
...watch how he soared.
This is a dumb as hell belief. If the plan was for multiple movies and he had commitment issues, then he could’ve just been skipped on some off screen mission or injury for whatever sequel. Just like pacific rim did with Raleigh’s character in part 2. Just gave some dumb explanation as to why he doesn’t show up in case they move forward with a 3rd one and they can bring him back. Fact is It’s not that he “couldn’t commit”, it’s that he made it clear he had no intention of continuing. Hence his death. Same for Books.
I watched the movie before learning that there was a series, and still loved it, but I would definitely recommend watching the series first in general.
Congrats, you're a full fledged browncoat now! Also you're now prepared for the (bad taste) fan joke told far too often:
How do reavers clean their spears? They put 'em through the wash...
I really think this was well done, especially given how little support the studios gave Firefly. As much as we all hate it when beloved characters die, it does impart a sense of danger; we know they don't have plot armor.
Shiny reaction. I'm glad you got to experience the series and movie.
As someone who saw Serenity before Firefly I can guarantee you that the movie was incredible (and continues to be every time I revisit it) Of course I always start the binging with Firefly now.
"Did you see how her face changed?"
Yes, but it was nothing compared to YOUR face changing from "leaf in the wind" to spear through Wash. One second, big smiles and laughing, the next was horrified shock!
Great reaction, Biss.
*I feel the two most important books to answer missing questions, to flesh out backstories, and to get additional Firefly lore are the following:*
1) FIREFLY Legacy Deluxe Edition Graphic Novel (1 of 4 deluxe editions currently)
- a collection of many comic books - Book's back story, and much more
2) Firefly novel (book 5 of 8 currently) - "Life Signs"
- Takes place between Firefly e14 and movie Serenity - Tells us why Inara gave up her pending promotion to travel on a Firefly. Also tells us why Inara was always against a romance with Mal and why she decided to leave Serenity.
*SOME KEY COMIC BOOK & NOVEL SPOILERS BELOW on Zoe, Inara, and Book:*
- When Zoe was wearing the slinky white dress at the funeral for Wash, Book, and Mr. Universe - Zoe was pregnant with Wash's daughter Emma. Also - Jubal Early is still alive. Story found in the 6 issue comic book miniseries 'Serenity: Leaves on the Wind'.
- 'Firefly - Life Signs' novel takes place between Firefly episode 14 and the movie 'Serenity'. Backstory - Inara quit her pursuit to become the Guild Priestess when she found out she was terminally ill. She joined the crew of Serenity to explore the 'Verse before she died.
While on Serenity, Inara kept romance at bay with Mal because she was terminally ill. She only told Simon as his patient, who kept her secret. When she found she could no longer hold back Mal's feelings or her own, she left Serenity. Inara was cured of her illness in the novel "Life Signs". Now again on Serenity there are no more excuses to hold off her romance with Mal so she stays on Serenity, giving Mal the "greenlight" for romance.
- Shepherd Book's backstory is found in the graphic novel 'Serenity: The Shepherd's Tale'. Book was recruited by the Independents during the war. He was planted as a mole to rise rapidly in the ranks of the Alliance while he secretly spies on them for the Independents.
BissFlix: "He should have gone for the head! You always go for the head."
Me: "Its interesting how much you seem to know about that world. You've got to tell me about it sometime."
BissFlix: "No, I don't."
:D
Haha glad you enjoyed the reaction
Again, I've sure enjoyed revisiting the series and movie with you; loved your reactions throughout. You always make my day brighter. Thank you!!!!!!!
39:04 The story of Mal's life.
In the very first episode of the TV show, Zoe comments that Patience has the advantage over them. Mal responds "Everybody always does. Thats what makes us special".
Now Mal rummages in a toolbox to grab a screwdriver as a weapon against the Operative's sword.
For more information on the shepherd there is a graphic novel called a shepherds tale
Saw it twice in theaters, it was so good I wish it had been more popular to warrant a continuation of the series.
My favourite quotes:
"What you plan and what comes about ain't never exactly been similar."
"Hell with this, I'm gonna live!"
This movie is the perfect example of how to make a stand alone movie.
I never watch fireflies, i only watch Serenity and i love it.
No characters backstory or crucial plot information that force me to binge the series to understand and follow through the movie.
They present it all really well in this single movie.
"i aim to misbehave" is the best " quote in the movie, and you can get a t-shirt with that on it.
Reminds me of a T-shirt I once saw: "God, grant me the serenity... That's all, just grant me the Serenity. I'll handle the rest. Shiny."
The duck! Oh man that killed me. LOL
Zoey at funeral wore a slinky dress. (Shindig) Not word of Joss but of Gina Torres (actress who played Zoey) she (Zoey, the character, not the actress) was pregnant. Now for Jayne/River theory. Jayne in pilot said (to lawman) "it's a girl. She's not all there but not all of her has to be." If River is a willing woman, his part is set. In Ariel when she first wakes up she says to Jayne, "Copper for a kiss." When she is going on about Christmas presents everyone ignores her gibberish, except Jayne getting pissed. Those are his memories and for some reason she finds him fascinating. In the bar in the movie he can sneak up on a effing psychic because in a fight he does not think, he just does. When he thinks on the ship, she takes him easily. (That also explains why she couldn't dodge his blow after the butcher knife in Ariel, although that might just be her being nuts.) No accounting for taste and River might be well advised to keep a guy who can sneak up on her loyal to her, and she likes him for some reason.
2:20 time mark
_ River: “We meddle… we tell them what to do, what to think. We’re in their homes and in their heads and we haven’t the right.”
_ Teacher: “River, we’re not telling people what to think, WE’RE JUST TRYING TO SHOW THEM HOW.”
(Emphasis added)
These words spoken at the beginning of the film are prophetic. The Empires attempt at controlling its citizenry on Miranda fails horribly. They get into people’s homes and heads and they haven’t the right.
I am writing this to help out bisscute and this video and this channel with the algorithm 🥰
I can tell you from experience that the move works as a standalone 100%. I saw this in the theater before I watched a single episode f Firefly and I LOVED it.
"I aim to misbehave."
Is my favorite quote from this film. It's kinda been my mantra most my time in the verse.
How do Reavers clean their spears? The run them through the Wash........
The movie was really made in response to a lot of people pissed off that they cancelled "Firefly", so it wasn't really meant to be a stand-alone movie, more like an olive branch to the brown-coats. I was very surprised you didn't immediately recognize "Pax", it's Latin "Pax Romana"; just shocking coming from a Carpathian girl. You mentioned your upcoming birthday, so Happy Birthday (La Multi Ani). Now you and River are the same age ;). Great reaction; enjoyed every minute.
Specifically "pax" means "peace." "Pax Romana" means "Roman Peace." (Yes, they do talk like Yoda.) The phrase refers to a specific period in history. It was Rome's "Golden Age." A period of relative stability with little expansion or warfare. The phrase was not really in common usage during the actual period it describes and came into use by historians later. The phrase has been adapted to other periods in history. AKA: Pax Britannia, Pax Imperia, Pax Americana, etc. I believe "peace" in Romani is pronounced like "pach-eh," so not super obvious it evolved from "pax."
It's a testament to how wonderful your show is that someone like me, a fan, will watch the show about once a year yet I still watch reaction videos like this. It's obvious that FOX didn't watch the show and had no understanding of what it is. But maybe it's for the best.
Yeah, thanks for watching
You noticed that mistake and not the fact that they tied bodies to the front of the ship with rope an painted it red.... but when they exit the world, the atmosphere burns the flesh off of the bodies and leaves the skeletons... but not the rope or the paint 🤔
I did , but you know 2 hrs edited down to 40 so we can post on TH-cam its kinda difficult BUT hey there is always patreon to see the full thing
"two rabbits with one bullet" is a cool phrasing of the classic two birds with one stone or in Trailer Park terms, getting two birds stoned at once
"They should have shot him then!"
Mal's personal code got in the way. Remember what he told Simon in the 1st episode when Simon asked how could he know Mal wouldn't kill him in his sleep?
"If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed."
Later, in the complex, maybe he should have gone for a head shot, but then the military would probably have shot River later.
Thanks!
thank you
Well, I hope this experience may have convinced Biss to take a look at some more scifi. Welcome to the Browncoats, Biss, enjoyed every minute of the reaction.
The evil laugh when the reavers pop out…..😈 and Summer Glau, those years of ballet make her such a graceful fighter. ❤
Right? She’s great
Great reaction, thanks Bliss!
Ya gotta see the out takes from this, they’re hilarious!😂
Great reaction! Firefly has 3 volume compendium graphic novels - one of which covers Shepard Book's backstory. They are really great.
I loved every minute of this movie, and I love that river is finally cured .. I also love your accent 😂
I agree that a LOT is lost seeing it as a lone Movie without having seen the series. But that's because it was a Movie that was never really meant to exist. It was ONLY made because the show got cancelled but was so loved by the fans they decided to make the Movie as a way to try and wrap up the series.
I will always love this movie. 'i am like a leaf on the wind' rip.
Great reaction! One of my favorite shows and movie. So, I binge watched this yesterday and today.
I think my most favorite part is the title-shot fading up to show Serenity, her logo, then her shape, then wreathed in the fires of atmospheric entry, and the accompanying score. That whole bit gives me chills.
Indeed. Then we are reminded that this IS Firefly when the Primary Buffer Panel breaks off, causing much consternation from Mal and that witty one liner from Wash. Still my favorite exchange... Define Interesting....Oh God, We're all Gonna Die.
40:36 I chuckled at you answering Mal's question. Its like you part of the crew
Oh boy here we go
Biss😍with the Pig tails is always a Win..Gorgeous!! Another great reaction
'nades are one of those things that are better to have and not need, than need and not have.
I've watched you react to FF and S. Glad you enjoyed the stories. It is very much too bad that the show got cancelled. There definitely was SO MUCH more story to tell.
It's always too soon, but do you know how Reavers clean their spears? They put 'em through the Wash. Great react!
Nathan Fillion told that joke at a Comic-Con. He also added the "Too soon?"
15:03 Her look down after the line, “Make you bust out of your blouse,” cracked me up.
"This is how I imagined it". Everybody regretted saying that, less than a minute later.
Spoilers.............
Shepard Book was originally an admiral in the alliance fleet in charge of a lot of people. He also happened to be a double-agent working for the browncoats to try to feed them info when he could. There was a battle where he made some decisions that got a lot of people killed, so he "retired" from his position and became a shepard.
Zoey ended up being pregnant in the movie, she just didn't know it yet. She went on to have a girl.
Anara had a terminal illness for which there was no cure. She had a limited amount of time left to life and knew it. Which is why she didn't want to get involved with Mal.
The movie was not made to be a stand alone. It was made to try to give unanswered questions some closure. It did......but not every question. And it opened up more questions. Well, you can't have everything. Where would you put it?
Biss has given one of the best reactions to this movie I have ever seen. She has super expressions and wonderful comments. It is so cool how into this series and movie she is. I love them also and it is a much watch for me every six months or so. And Yes Biss, Jayne is our prick.
Aww thank you so much, glad you loved the reaction
Zoe and wash actually did have a kid.😊 You can't stop the signal!
Guess you can't, thanks for watching
I'm one of those rare browncoats who saw the movie BEFORE even knowing about the series' existence (although I know I'm not the ONLY one). Saw the movie on video, LOVED the movie, bought the movie on DVD, it had a blooper reel (I LOVE blooper/gag reels). When it started showing bloopers from the series (that I had NO clue about), I checked online about it. Afterwards was on a quest to find the series (I wanted/needed to see it). I've had the series on DVD, gave that to my (now) ex-wife and now have the series on a Blu-Ray box-set (and have watched it completely too many times to count). I really do hope they follow through with a proposed revamp of this series.
I really can't place a "favorite character" on any one of them; the entire character cast is just awesome. They ALL have their moments to shine. I will admit, though, to kind of favoring Kaylee. I do so primarily because, like YOU young Biss, young Kaylee is CUTE AS HELL!!
I'm not sure I have a favorite quote, per se, but I do have a favorite scene group: where River leaps into the room with the Reavers to toss Simon's med bag in to the crew and gets dragged in by the Reavers. Every time I watch this movie with someone for the first time, they ALWAYS say the same thing: "OH NO! Now SHE'S trapped in there with THEM!!" And I always reply (with a wry little grin): "SHE is not trapped with THEM; THEY are trapped with HER."
I love your reactions. You're very emotive, very vocal. Not only do you have a GREAT personality and a WONDERFUL sense of humor, you allow that personality and humor to shine through in your reactions. I can't wait to view more of your reaction videos.
So so happy you finally saw this!
Glad you watched the series and the movie. I absolutely love both of them. The movie especially runs you through all of the emotions. Sometimes all at once.
Great laugh Bisscute. 😊
Thank you so much, happy you enjoyed the reaction
Good one, Bisscute! And now you are in the same boat as the rest of us, no more Firefly. **sigh** It was a lot of fun rewatching this with you! Shiny. 😊 Thanks for sharing it with us!
Thank you for watching
It felt SO wrong, to laugh out loud at Kaylee's declaration of intent to live, so soon after Wash died. But Joss Whedon knew that the fans needed a tension breaker.
When I saw this in the theater on opening night, it was a packed house. When Book died, the crowd was nearly silent. Only a few muffled sobs could be heard. When Wash died, the whole crowd roared in outrage!!
I had never heard of the show when the movie came out. We saw the movie anyway and I can say as someone going in cold, they did a great job of giving you all the info you needed to know. I never felt confused by the main story. Sure, there were inside jokes I didn't get at the time, but still liked it tons. It made me want to watch the series, which I later did. So, there's that perspective. One thing I liked that a viewer of the series would not have been able to get was that sense of "this is a crew that's been together" from the get go. The writing, characters, and actors themselves had had the time on the series to get their character down, so when the movie starts, they are at their peak. It's cool sometimes when a movie can pull that off - that sense of "these are lived in characters" from the first frame of the movie. I liked that at the time.
There is plenty of fun to be had viewing the outtakes and behind-the-scenes material for both this and the series. Nathan Fillion is quite the on-set prankster.
There's also a set of short videos called The River Tam Sessions that was released as promotion for the movie. Gives a bit more background on what happened to her.
Nathan Fillion (Mal) told a Firefly joke at some convention:
How do reavers clean their spears?
They run them through the wash.
Haha
Thanks Biss!
So glad you watched the series and the movie.
Me too, thank you for watching
My favorite call back...
Out of Gas:
Jayne -- "We'd have been back 1st, but there's something wrong with Inara's shuttle. She's done something to it, Mal. It smells funny."
Inara -- "I told you. That's incense."
Jayne -- "So you say."
Serenity (film):
Inara -- "And that's not incense."

I really enjoyed the movie a lot, my favorite part of it was the Agent, but then again Chiwetel Ejiofor is one of my favorite actors.
Enjoyed the review!
I love how you say you can't pronounce the "r" sound the "American" way (although in your attempts to do it, I think you actually did). I'm British, and WE call the way YOU pronounce it, "rolling the R's". But I've never actually been able to do it...
5:17 Great, the water's ready for the tea! :)
Glad you had a good time with this one Bisscute. I do wish there was more before Ron Glass passed. Til the next one.
Can you imagine getting to the end of this movie and saying to yourself, "Ok, now I should watch the series."
That was me, funnily enough. My brother hadn't found the Firefly DVD set, but he did have Serenity. The boy made me sit and watch it. I am glad he did. Ironically, I found the series DVD first. I still hold that over him. 😏
Me, too. After I saw the movie, someone gave me the DVD set as a Christmas gift. Still haven't watched them all.
“What’s your favorite line from the movie?"
Yes.
If you go on to read the graphic novels, that are in continuity, you'll see that Wash left her a little gift before his passing. And you'll find out Shepards past.
