I hate that it's happening to current RBs, because they're studs and they work hard and go through a lot. But it's simply because of the way the game is played nowadays - not because all 32 teams are conspiring against RBs. Before (early 2000's and prior), even though RBs careers were always short due to the physical nature of the position, they could get paid a lot because having a good running game was still pretty central to how good offensives flourished and won championships. Nowadays, it's all about passing and player safety which means (1) RBs get the ball less and (2) linemen, linebackers, safeties are much leaner/faster. That means that, instead of a hulk-like bell cow star RB who gets half of the offenses touches, teams now are looking for situational contribution from the RB position: speed/agility 75% of the time (normal plays and YAC on short passes) and full-on power for the other 25% (short/goal line yardage) - that is so much cheaper and easier to get via a young RB committee that isn't banged up from being in the league for 5+ years already. My idea is perhaps make RBs rookie deals one year shorter than everyone else's to get them closer to longer-term contract opportunities. But I don't know why pundits can't be objective - this less of a systemic power move against the running backs, and more of a matter of supply/demand. It's the same reason why FBs vanished in the early 2000s - the game evolved, and is just continuing to do so. Unfortunately, there will always be casualties of war.
Yeah honestly i would love for rb's to get what they deserve cuz they do the dirty hard work but id like a better solution than just inflating the salaries of rb's cuz we feel bad for them. I want a more convincing solution than just give them more money

Solution: switch rookie rb contracts from 4 years to 2 max with first rounders having 3rd year team option. Full guaranteed rookie contracts. That way they can still develop in college and not get hurt in pros but get to reach the market in the pros quicker
Here's what running backs should do play a second position and limit how many touches you can get. IDC what company you work for the more versatile you are the more valuable you are learning to play a different position will make you more money
RB's should have their own salary cap, or a cap exception so they can get paid more per year without hurting the overall salary cap and also the teams dont have to commit to long years to rb position who naturally tends to have short primes with sudden drop-off
The solution for RBs is to allow them to sign a 2 year rookie scale contract instead of the traditional 4 year contract, they can test free agency early and be able to get a decent contract that would allow them to test free agency again later in their 20s.
Agreed. The QB & WR have value structured contracts w/incentive clauses yet, the RB is also required to do more yet, their contracts have less incentive/value structured contracts. Not fair but until the Players Union put heat on the Owners/GMs, $$$$ will always be the bottom line, instead of more player safety/protection rules for ALL player/positions & not the focus being just the QB.😢😢😮😮
I truly think the best strategy for the franchise and the position itself is to sign at minimum 3 to 4 of them at once regardless of talent and share the responsibility. The big time big name backs get traded with low mileage and the franchise signs another one. The logic behind this is that the position is too high risk injury prone, especially after a name is created.😎

I think its nice in theory to let RBs enter the league earlier but that opens up a lot of issues too, other positions see its unfair, people may be drafted as RBs to get around it and swap to a different position once in, the younger players are younger men and that could lead to off field issues. Its a nice idea but I think in our worlds reality the league would never put themselves in that position. Also I honestly dont blame the teams because why pay extra for a position which (in general) is pretty replaceable when your other positions are demanding more money and you NEED to pay them because you wont find a 6th rounder to play first year to replace at least 70% of their production, some cases make no sense like Barkley and Jacobs both are high enough production at this point that the team is just making a mistake by not paying them. But in general the only change will be the next time the PA gets to set their guidelines, until then teams "should" treat the RBs right but they wont since they gain very little from doing so.

I knew the comments wouldn't let me down toward Messy Molly🤬
Todd Gurley, the steelers RB that quick Leveon Bell
Of course your gonna get banged up in a one back set when your told find a hole with Zone blocking and no pulling
Interrupting Unc for such a pisspoor question should be a felony
Molly let the show rock. We dont need you interrupting. Like she said “we have a HOF on the show”
I think its nice in theory to let RBs enter the league earlier but that opens up a lot of issues too, other positions see its unfair, people may be drafted as RBs to get around it and swap to a different position once in, the younger players are younger men and that could lead to off field issues.
Game has changed in the worst ways
Why not just restructure their contracts so they can reup after season 2-3 or you front load their contracts since they are downplaying their age
Simple make a leave minimum pay for RBs. 0-5 years 8 million. 5-8 years. 10 mil a year. Over 10 years 20 million
Or rookie rb contracts should be 3 years vs 4
Early won’t help. Runningbacks should be ineligible for rookie contracts.
Stephen A not looking too happy on set these days. Shannon owning the whole set. He be looking pissed off lmao
Its supply and demand. They have too many running backs. Its a position where a rookie could do great at. There been too many rookie back who did great.
