“Your Name” is beautiful and best experienced without knowing exactly what you’re getting into. I also highly recommend “A Silent Voice” for another emotional experience. And if you’re cool with potentially sobbing like a baby during a livestream, “Grave of the Fireflies” is the way to go.
For the movie Your Name, Radwimps did 4 songs, “Yumetourou”, “Zenzenzense”, Sparkle, and “Nandemonaiya”. You’re correct that the song just cut abruptly, whoever uploaded the video cut out about half of the song. There’s a concert orchestra version of each of these songs that’s I’d recommend. The one for Sparkle and Nandemonaiya are my personal favorites. Id also recommend “Is there still anything love can do.” and “Grand Escape” both by Radwimps, for another movie by the same director as Your Name. “Grand Escape” is one of my personal favorite songs, the escalation of the song and the voice of the singer get me pumped up every time I hear it.
Sparkle is an absolutely fantastic song. Definitely recommend Your Name. It's also one of the things where I wouldn't want to tell a potential viewer anything about it.
It's hard to explain why, but this song hits me on such a personal level I find it hard not to choke up a lil any time I hear it. Absolutely love this song to death.
Can’t express how much I love this movie. Such a beautiful film and an easy one to show any new or non-anime fan, which I have done several times, and 100% of the time they have enjoyed it. Would love it if you did the ending song "Nandemonaiya" as well.

actually the other scenes are mediocre except for the scene where taki meets mitsuha on the hill until a meteor falls accompanied by a song from sparkle radwimps that is the best scene with points worth 1000 from a scale of 1-10.

Makoto Shinkai really did well with "Your Name" the story, the plot, and the view... Such a masterpiece. I remember watch this movie 7 Times in a row...
Many of Makoto Shinkai's works carry similar themes of love and longing and always with gorgeous animations. If you like Your Name, I suggest also watching his other works like Voices of a Distant Star, The Garden of Words, and The Place Promised in Our Early Days to name a few. Voices of a Distant Star is especially amazing since Makoto did almost everything (directing, producing, animating and voice acting) himself from his home back in 2000.
One of the few Japanese songs that I've completely memorized from my heart. The movie is beautiful, it's just an amazing experience. Seeing you react to this made my day. You should definitely watch your name

The original trailers for the movie were really great IMO. They hooked you on the "we switch bodies" part, and omitted every other aspect of the movie.
You should definitely check out Grand Escape if you liked this one!! Its from the movie Tenki no ko which is from the same person as your name, same studio etc. and a really amazing song.
Fun fact: RADWIMPS actually recorded each song in English so if you watch it in Japanese, it will be the Japanese version and if you watch the English dub, it will be the English version.

Your Name was one of my first anime movies and it certainly left an impression on me. Amazing movie, like perfectly crafted to be a crowd-pleaser. I do like the director's less known works too though - I've seen all of his movies except one
Ookami Mio from hololive or in other names is the mother of hololive did a cover of this song and I think it's a great start to Mio and continuing the dive into the rabbit hole
5 centimeters per second is a movie made by the same director as Your Name and is a lot like the idea this MV gave you of this movie, but also soul crushing, one of my favorite movies.
Since you watched this, you have to check out "Is There Still Anything That Love Can Do?" by RADWIMPS. It's a song for the "sequel" of Your name called Weathering With You (takes place in the same universe as Your name but with different cast). Personally I believe it's the band's best song and you should definitely check it out since it also has like 100+ million views. As anime movies go, Your name and A Silent Voice are the best to come out yet. While Your name tackles a more romantic approach, A Silent Voice is a realistic and relatable story. I am biased to say A Silent Voice takes the cake when it comes to movies.
They composed such beautiful music for this film! I actually used “kataware toki” in a tribute video for my kitten who passed away. I first heard it (by itself, not in the movie) while I was driving and literally had to pull over cuz it started making me cry🥺
Makoto Shinkai (the director of Your Name) has directed some of my all time favourite anime films. With Your Name being one of my Top 5 (alongside one of his other films '5 Centimeters Per Second'). And the introduction of Radwimp's into the sound of his films has helped to further elevate the storytelling of Shinkai's films. Shinkai and Radwimps returned for the film 'Suzume no Tojimari' that was released in November 2022. And in an interview, Shinkai said that the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake & Tsunami served as an inspiration for the film. Shinkai's idea for 'Your Name' can also find it's roots back to the 2011 natural disaster that struck Japan. On visiting Yuriage, a town in Miyagi prefecture, that was devastated by the tsunami. The thought came to Shinkai that it could've been his town that was destroyed by this disaster. And whilst the disaster in the film isn't a tsunami, he still wanted the viewers to think about how they would feel if their positions were swapped and it was their home that was destroyed by an unstoppable natural force that brings devastation.
Though Sparkle isn't the opening song, it's a great song that really heightens the emotion of its scene in the film. The real OP. "Zenzenzense" is a real fun piece. When you see the film, you will really see how close you are on their relationship.
Radwimps did the entire soundtrack for Your Name. As well as the next Makoto Shinkai film Weathering With you. They also worked on the upcoming film he’s doing Suzume. That’s coming in April 2023 :)

Zenzenzense is one of RADWIMPS's best songs and it's from this movie as well. I have shown that song to people who don't even like J-POP and I have not seen a single person not say "This is one of the best songs I have ever listened to".
Radwimps never misses when it comes to OST for Makoto Shinkai's movies. You can even check them all. The songs in Your Name and Weathering with you are all good.
There is an english version of this song too for the english dub of the movie. I watched it in dub. Also, the movie 'I want to eat your pancreas' (wierdest name ever xD) is a great romantic movie although I particularly hate romantic anime in general, but this one's still one of my favourite movies.
Your Name is an incredibly good movie, the animation and music are top tier. I improved an essay/presentation on it for a philosophy class on mix art medium (dont know how to translate in english but basically how different types of art could be combined to create an art piece) for extra grading a semester and got the highest possible grade as well as managed to convince classmate who were not into anime AT ALL and they came in class the next day telling me they enjoyed it a lot and were surprised anime could be that high quality lol great memories
OMG Luke, you should ABSOLUTELY watch this move. It's my favourite anime movie of all time and it's just laksjdlaksd AMAZING. My favourite song is Nandemonaiya but all of the songs are just the absolute best. Radwimps popped off! Bump of Chicken, Funky Monkey Babys, Radwimps, Yuzu, Yonezu Kenshi, Mukai Taichi, Sekai no Owari. These are some of my favourite Japanese artists!!

It's one of my favorite songs and also one of my favorite animated films. The story is incredible, the drawings are magnificent, and the music is always in harmony with the scenes of the film. If you feel like that just with this video, you absolutely have to watch the movie! I get chills just listening to this song over and over again. A RADWIMPS song I think you would enjoy is from the anime movie "Weathering With You" and is called "Grand Escape". Try to watch the live version (Anti-Anti Generation Tour 2019) as I always get goosebumps toward the end when the audience participates.
Oh it's a long distance relationship for sure. Amazing movie, one of my favorites. The soundtrack and visuals are amazing, I don't remember the voice acting since it's been so long but it's definitely a movie anyone should watch. Also check out Weathering with You soundtrack.

Luke, in answer to your question ... is it a drama? ... a romance? ... a sci-fi? ... all I will say is it's a true work of art. The reason it's easy to love Makoto Shinkai, when asked why he thinks Your;Name became such a huge hit, he answered he had no clue. He is a truly humble man who has a talent he himself fails to recognize. His other works, Voices of a Distant Star, Garden of Words, Children Who Chase Lost Voices and The Place Promised in Our Early Days are all fantastic watches as well. When it comes to anime movies Makoto Shinkai is the king of beauty/romance anime movies, Satashi Kon the king of darker surreal anime movies and Studio Ghibli (and their spin-off of breakway talent, Studio Ponoc) are the top when it comes to family-fantasy anime movies. You can't go wrong choosing anything from any of the 3 camps. Another anime movie you may like is an older undervalued one called Hotarubi no Mori e (To the Forest of Firefly Lights). It's very much in the veign of Shinkai's work. To this day, I'd put it in my top 5 anime movies (where it's been since first seeing it 10 years ago).
"Your name" is a part of a continuous Makoto Shinkai universe (the director and story writer of the movies). This is the 3rd of very loosely connected movies. The 1st is "5cm per second", the 2nd is called "Garden of Words", the 3rd is "Your Name", the 4th is "Weathering with you". The movies has some characters reappearing. Watching "Your Name" gives some extra experience after watching "5cm per second" and "Garden of Words", but of course each of them is a perfect stand alone. If you watch carefully, you will see the hidden (more or less) ties between these movies. Enjoy!

God, 君の名は is one of my absolute fabulous movies, I've got the blue-ray with my just now, it's such a fantastic movie. I also watched it without any context or plot knowledge aside from it being about a boy (Taki Tachibana) and a girl (Mitsuha Miyamizu) switching places at random

This is a fantastic movie! From the animation to the themes it's Makoto Shinkai's best work. Nandemonaiya is the best song from Your Name for me. Ikura from YOASOBI actually did a cover of it and it's one of my favorite covers. Definitely recommend both the original and her version!
Your Name, Then watch "Weathering with You" Two of Makato Shinkai's Master pieces Tied together by plot and character cameos. Each of His movies have different, General themes towards love. Your Names being one of the best. One of my first Anime movies, and ill never regret giving this a chance. It is Perfect.
If you've watched the movie already, the arc/segment which this song plays is titled "Beautiful Struggle", which also appears in the song lyrics. The connection between the beginning and the ending scene where they both express the comet's " ..a beautiful view" remarks & references one of the key element of this movie - the circle (loop) of fate; which deserves a huge recognition+appreciation for Shinkai, the creator.
The ending is more like "incomplete", a void feeling - the main purpose that runs the story... that's what make this movie brillianly beautiful. It makes all the viewers to keep thinking about it. When you keep re-watching it, trying to understand the true essence more, you'll only end up getting a deep void feeling within you.
This movie is a hidden masterpiece which contains so many elements to unfold, which will be a great feat for all the content-writers and critiques out there. The movie has too many premises that anyone can derive as many facts/fictions/theories they want.
You NEED to watch “Maquia: When The Promised Flowers Bloom” This movie is absolutely underrated, but it’s probably one of the best anime movies I’ve ever watched (I’ve already seen every Matoko Shinkai film, ride your wave, words bubble up like a soda pop, graves of the fireflies, etc.) Yet Maquia is the film that made me cry the most. It’s absolutely beautiful, please give it a chance. It’s a sad film mainly about motherly love, Fantasy and Drama.
As someone who started anime with your name and always watched anime movies... I think I can suggest a few. 'Your name' is obviously my 1st choice too and it's a really magical experience. 'The silent voice' is my personal favourite and is arguably better than Your name. And it's much more emotional and involved story and has some really serious moments 'Grave of the fireflies' is actually a movie based on an anecdotal novel by someone who was a kid in WW2. It's a really emotional story. I strongly believed that every school should screen that movie for the students as an awareness towards war. 'Wolf children' and 'Summer wars' are two movies directed by Mamoru Hosoda. Both has this amazing heartwarming feel to it. First one is about a mother taking care of two kids in a country side and then growing up... It's amazing. Second one is just a massive family all together under a Grandma's loving shelter. Two movies that connects you to your families. Any Ghibli movie. I would say Princess mononoke , Spirited away are my favorites. My neighborhood Totoro is also in the list but it's a children's movie (some people actually did point out some not so childish themes in the movie though )

Starting into anime movie? I started watching anime from "Your name". If you need any example of how good that movie is, now I almost exclusively watch anime ... That movie hyped me soo much to the entire industry that I was completely unaware of before it.
Ah yes, the 2 anime movies that are considered THE top tier picks of recent times which are "Your Name" (or "Kimi no Na wa") and "A Silent Voice" (or "Koe no Katachi", translating literally to " The Form of Voice"), but let me also enlighten you to a bunch of other more well-known ones below~ Older classic anime movies that are considered more or less top tier are usually Studio Ghibli movies like for example "Spirited Away" (all more fantasy-themed but beautiful, handdrawn masterpieces), but also classics like "Akira", "Paprika", "Ghost in the Shell", "Ninja Scroll" or "Grave of the Fireflies". Movies I personally think are also worth mentioning (with short synopsis giving a rough idea, but no spoilers) are: - In this Corner of the World (plays in the time period around WW2) - The Anthem of the Heart (tags would include "students" and "girl who cannot talk") - Tokyo Godfathers (3 homeless find a baby around christmas and things get interesting) - Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heaven's Door (stand-alone-movie one can watch without watching the actual show) - Gintama: Yorozuya Forever (can also be watched without watching the show, though it will be hella confusing, but still enjoyable af) - Madoka Magica Movie 3: Rebellion (the controversial continuation of the series and 2 other movies, way too good not to include here~) - Violet Evergarden (the series is a beautiful masterpiece, and so are the movies it has. Recommend both series and movies, can't go wrong)

Radwimps soundtracks are purely masterpieces, I highly recommend you to watch all those I mentioned before and A Silent Voice and I want to eat your pancreas. I wouldn't say Your name was a story about a long distance relationship. The other Makoto Shinkai film 5 cm per second I would say is one.

As anime movies go, Your name and A Silent Voice are the best to come out yet. While Your name tackles a more romantic approach, A Silent Voice is a realistic and relatable story. I am biased to say A Silent Voice takes the cake when it comes to movies.

Makoto Shinkai (the director of Your Name) has directed some of my all time favourite anime films. With Your Name being one of my Top 5 (alongside one of his other films '5 Centimeters Per Second'). And the introduction of Radwimp's into the sound of his films has helped to further elevate the storytelling of Shinkai's films.
Shinkai and Radwimps returned for the film 'Suzume no Tojimari' that was released in November 2022. And in an interview, Shinkai said that the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake & Tsunami served as an inspiration for the film.
Shinkai's idea for 'Your Name' can also find it's roots back to the 2011 natural disaster that struck Japan. On visiting Yuriage, a town in Miyagi prefecture, that was devastated by the tsunami. The thought came to Shinkai that it could've been his town that was destroyed by this disaster. And whilst the disaster in the film isn't a tsunami, he still wanted the viewers to think about how they would feel if their positions were swapped and it was their home that was destroyed by an unstoppable natural force that brings devastation.
Though Sparkle isn't the opening song, it's a great song that really heightens the emotion of its scene in the film. The real OP. "Zenzenzense" is a real fun piece.
When you see the film, you will really see how close you are on their relationship.

Also, the movie 'I want to eat your pancreas' (wierdest name ever xD) is a great romantic movie although I particularly hate romantic anime in general, but this one's still one of my favourite movies.

I improved an essay/presentation on it for a philosophy class on mix art medium (dont know how to translate in english but basically how different types of art could be combined to create an art piece) for extra grading a semester and got the highest possible grade as well as managed to convince classmate who were not into anime AT ALL and they came in class the next day telling me they enjoyed it a lot and were surprised anime could be that high quality lol great memories

It's one of my favorite songs and also one of my favorite animated films. The story is incredible, the drawings are magnificent, and the music is always in harmony with the scenes of the film. Luke, in answer to your question ... is it a drama? ... a romance? ... a sci-fi? ... all I will say is it's a true work of art. The reason it's easy to love Makoto Shinkai, when asked why he thinks Your;Name became such a huge hit, he answered he had no clue. He is a truly humble man who has a talent he himself fails to recognize. His other works, Voices of a Distant Star, Garden of Words, Children Who Chase Lost Voices and The Place Promised in Our Early Days are all fantastic watches as well. When it comes to anime movies Makoto Shinkai is the king of beauty/romance anime movies, Satashi Kon the king of darker surreal anime movies and Studio Ghibli (and their spin-off of breakway talent, Studio Ponoc) are the top when it comes to family-fantasy anime movies. You can't go wrong choosing anything from any of the 3 camps. Another anime movie you may like is an older undervalued one called Hotarubi no Mori e (To the Forest of Firefly Lights). It's very much in the veign of Shinkai's work. To this day, I'd put it in my top 5 anime movies (where it's been since first seeing it 10 years ago).
I think you should also check out Maquia: When The Promised Flower Blooms. It's a movie about a mother's love, and the OST is very beautiful.
It's kind of fantastic how on point you are with the feeling you get for the story. XD

"Your name" is a part of a continuous Makoto Shinkai universe (the director and story writer of the movies). This is the 3rd of very loosely connected movies. The 1st is "5cm per second", the 2nd is called "Garden of Words", the 3rd is "Your Name", the 4th is "Weathering with you". The movies has some characters reappearing. Watching "Your Name" gives some extra experience after watching "5cm per second" and "Garden of Words", but of course each of them is a perfect stand alone. If you watch carefully, you will see the hidden (more or less) ties between these movies. Enjoy!

This is a fantastic movie! From the animation to the themes it's Makoto Shinkai's best work. Nandemonaiya is the best song from Your Name for me. Ikura from YOASOBI actually did a cover of it and it's one of my favorite covers. Definitely recommend both the original and her version!

Your Names being one of the best. One of my first Anime movies, and ill never regret giving this a chance. It is Perfect.

You NEED to watch “Maquia: When The Promised Flowers Bloom” This movie is absolutely underrated, but it’s probably one of the best anime movies I’ve ever watched (I’ve already seen every Matoko Shinkai film, ride your wave, words bubble up like a soda pop, graves of the fireflies, etc.) Yet Maquia is the film that made me cry the most. It’s absolutely beautiful, please give it a chance. It’s a sad film mainly about motherly love, Fantasy and Drama.

As someone who started anime with your name and always watched anime movies... I think I can suggest a few.
'Your name' is obviously my 1st choice too and it's a really magical experience.
'The silent voice' is my personal favourite and is arguably better than Your name. And it's much more emotional and involved story and has some really serious moments
'Grave of the fireflies' is actually a movie based on an anecdotal novel by someone who was a kid in WW2. It's a really emotional story. I strongly believed that every school should screen that movie for the students as an awareness towards war.
'Wolf children' and 'Summer wars' are two movies directed by Mamoru Hosoda. Both has this amazing heartwarming feel to it. First one is about a mother taking care of two kids in a country side and then growing up... It's amazing. Second one is just a massive family all together under a Grandma's loving shelter. Two movies that connects you to your families.
Any Ghibli movie. I would say Princess mononoke , Spirited away are my favorites. My neighborhood Totoro is also in the list but it's a children's movie (some people actually did point out some not so childish themes in the movie though )

I started watching anime from "Your name". If you need any example of how good that movie is, now I almost exclusively watch anime ... That movie hyped me soo much to the entire industry that I was completely unaware of before it.

Ah yes, the 2 anime movies that are considered THE top tier picks of recent times which are "Your Name" (or "Kimi no Na wa") and "A Silent Voice" (or "Koe no Katachi", translating literally to " The Form of Voice"), but let me also enlighten you to a bunch of other more well-known ones below~
Older classic anime movies that are considered more or less top tier are usually Studio Ghibli movies like for example "Spirited Away" (all more fantasy-themed but beautiful, handdrawn masterpieces), but also classics like "Akira", "Paprika", "Ghost in the Shell", "Ninja Scroll" or "Grave of the Fireflies".
Movies I personally think are also worth mentioning (with short synopsis giving a rough idea, but no spoilers) are:
- In this Corner of the World (plays in the time period around WW2)
- The Anthem of the Heart (tags would include "students" and "girl who cannot talk")
- Tokyo Godfathers (3 homeless find a baby around christmas and things get interesting)
- Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heaven's Door (stand-alone-movie one can watch without watching the actual show)
- Gintama: Yorozuya Forever (can also be watched without watching the show, though it will be hella confusing, but still enjoyable af)
- Madoka Magica Movie 3: Rebellion (the controversial continuation of the series and 2 other movies, way too good not to include here~)
- Violet Evergarden (the series is a beautiful masterpiece, and so are the movies it has. Recommend both series and movies, can't go wrong)
