No matter how many times I rewatch that god damn amazing work of art I end up crying. Even if it is a little hard to grasp it in its entirety the first time its watched, once you rewatch it you get all the little hints and additional sad feels that were baked into it. Im glad you watched this and enjoyed it.
Also yeah Spirited Away is another masterpiece, a must watch sooner or later because its a classic for a reason.
Hotarubi no Mori e -> thats also a good one but it's a movie.

Yeah, someone said it in the stream at the end, but Weathering With You is another movie by Makoto Shinkai, and it's like a spiritual sequel to Your Name.
And 5 centimeters per second is the beta version of Your Name.
Even it's not the full movie, I can't help getting teary-eyed all over again...
I swear it's the music in that scene. It just pulls at the tear-ducts..

Everything in this movie is masterpiece. From direction, cinematography, musical score, soundtrack. I mean EVERYTHING about this movie is perfect!
Loved watching you react to this! Didn't say anything during the stream but at the end of the movie when he goes into the dinner, the couple that are talking behind him are the 2 friends she would spend time with.
And the sister can be seen sitting in a classroom.
One thing everyone forget to mention about the movie is how good the music is
I actually loved the soundtrack to this movie so much that I actually bought the soundtrack.Glad you loved the movie! When I watched this in the theater no joke people yelled "TALK TO HER" as she and him passed each other on those stairs and just about the entire theater cheered at the ending lol
Fun fact: This is the first happy ending this director ever made.

"Your Name" really is an amazing movie and it's always fun to watch someone see it for the first time.
Also, any movie by Studio Ghibli is also anime so if you're looking for new anime movie to watch which is good, pick anything from that studio ("Grave of the Fireflies" is most likely the one which would make you cry). "Spirited Away" won an Oscar, by the way.
My favourite Ghibli film is Nausicaa of the valley of the wind, can't believe he hasn't seen spirited away tho

Anime is an amazing medium for artistic expression. It does emotional storytelling better than basically any Hollywood film ever has.

It's just like a dream, having my own story and than later forgetting everything we did even though we try to remember the face we couldn't.
wonderful movie, just a pure work of love and art.
my personal favorite part is where she essentially asked her friends to commit domestic terrorism because of her vision and her friends asked *once* if she is sure and immediately agreed after. pure loyalty and trust in your friend.
another favorite of mine is Garden of Words, dunno if you possibly watched that one by now. absolutely visually stunning and a wonderful little story. but also there is something that the movie doesnt tell you at all, but once it clicked for me, tears shot straight into my eyes. (its a fairly popular trope in J-dramas, i think, but im not gonna spoil)
I wish I could have this kind of story for myself, to love someone so much that you’re willing to fight fate itself to undo the past, and to sacrifice every memory you have of that person you love just to save them. It all seems so hopeless, and yet, it all works out in the end

This movie does a lot of things I hate, body-switching, time travel, and the like. But it manages to pull it off in such a real way, where the characters respond perfectly realistically to how those things would go. It's got a clear vision in the story being told. And man... The animation and the OST are just... Absolutely beautiful.
Came here for the waterworks.. Was not disappointed.. This movie hits like an isekai truck..
Makoto Shinkai is the most in his element when editing in sync with music, I've noticed - the ending sequence of 5 Centimeters per Second and the insert song parts of Your Name are good examples. You can tell which one of his new film Suzume's trailers he very likely cut himself since his editing style is so recognizable
Makoto Shinkai is a genius ❤️ I recommend every anime created by him. Absolutely brilliant ✨
Loved the movie when i first saw it. Its one of my all time favorite , but to be honest the one that made me cry like a baby is "I want to eat your pancreas" that is just another level for me.
And a little bit less drama but still a good ones is "The girl who leapt through time" and i really liked the "The boy and the beast".
Oh my gosh I forgot about the the girl who leapt through time, it must've been like almost 10 years since I've seen it? Damn, I think it was my first non-ghibli anime film?

Makoto Shinkai's movies are all great and worth a watch. I'd recommend studio Ghibli's movies (Spirited Away being one of them) as well as classics such as "Akira" or "Ghost in the Shell"
Ohhh yesss, those might be more his speed with the violence and grittyness, tho he might not get those either, but definitely would watch him react

One of the most beautiful animes and films of all time✨️
I love how anime films are such works of art, whether they're really calm but still hard-hitting even with mundane stuff going on, like most Studio ghibli films or like these ones with magic, love stories, fantasy... one thing I've noticed is that they go all out on the experience of it, from visuals, to sounds, to the storytelling and the meanings they want to convey✨️
Makoto Shinkai actually went easy for this movie. He spared us the heartbreak ending that was a staple of his previous movies 👀

In my opinion, this film is one of the best films, however, the thing that impressed me the most about this film, and other Makoto shinkai films, is the depiction of the world in the film, What I mean is the art style of this film, it's so extraordinary, and accompanied by an insert song that is so pleasing to the ear,
my girlfriend and me have seen this movie like 7 or 8 times now, it is just an awesome piece of media
After that the Oscar is a joke, this movie is a masterpiece.

this a year after the fact, but it's bugging me no one else seems to have mentioned it, so I will. If you had watched them in the right order, you might have noticed that Taki has camio in Weathering with You, as they take place in the same universe.

Wow I barely remember that anime but yeah afterstory gets you like a truck. It's a little too much if you ask me. Thinking about it I remember being so much more invested in those little pocket stories about (I think it was) a girl and a robot? No clue what that was about but loved that part, probably a lot more than the main story at times, especially compared to season 1? But maybe that's just me
The robot is the MC and the little girl is the daughter.

Normally id hate a silent reaction to this movie, but knowing how vocal Luke normally is, its almost like his silence spoke volumes
Dude... you look so confused when watching the movie. I'm not sure if you got the twist or if you had a reaction to i.t... Great tears and sniffing at the end dude. That's it when they ask for each other's name. What a great emotional ride this movie is. If you aren't blown away by the animation, story, and characters, then I'm not sure what those people are looking for.

Spirited away is the first anime movie I ever watched, as a kid, gosh can't believe you haven't seen it and sounded like you don't know it, isn't it the most famous Ghibli film?
But yeah there are a lot of very beautiful emotional anime films, a lot of them by the same creator makoto shinkai, can't think of anime that aren't emotional tbh. Ghibli films are a different type of anime film but still give that heavy emotional vibe sometimes, even my neighbour Totoro isn't that technically about death or something?
Tbh if there are anime movies out there that wouldn't make you cry they probably aren't as good, these are masterpieces for a reason.
Your name is definitely one of the best tho. My personal favourite is on Netflix actually, Nakitai watashi wa neko wo kaburu, English name being a whisker away
(why is the English name just a simple pun when the Japanese name is what the emotional thread of the movie is? I think it would translate to, The me that wants to cry wears a cat (like a mask/armour), so it works a lot better in Japanese tho so I get it)
