    Thanks for this these videos have been really helpful... You sold me on the supernote for the distraction-free writing - but have since heard/seen on other reviews the supernote refresh is too laggy for typing on it. Has that been your experience on it? Now thinking your rec for the Boox nova as an entry to eink tablets might be the way to go...

    Thanks for this video! Love your channel! You mention the Nova Air 2 is your bedtime device. I wonder--why this and not something smaller like a kindle paperwhite (or Boox Poke 5)? Do you have thoughts on when it's helpful to highlight (which would be possible on a simple ereader) and when it's helpful to use a stylus and annotate a PDF? I used to love annotating on my Max Pro 2 so when I was looking for a bedtime reader, I figured I'd of course want stylus input on that too so I opted for the Nova Air 2. I thought I'd want to use the stylus for markup but most PDFs are too big to read comfortably on 7.8" so I'm primarily reading books which I have as epubs and am converting them into small-sized PDFs so that annotation makes sense. But since these are books I have as epubs (and not articles/books for research), it tends to be more relaxed reading and I'm not convinced I need a stylus anymore. I'm considering returning the Nova Air 2 (even though I love it!) and getting something cheaper and simpler. Do you think highlighting some books (using Poke 5 for example) when I'm in the habit of annotating other books as PDFs will make for a frustrating workflow? Am I overlooking something?
    Part of why I want to return the Nova is that I'm planning to replace my old Max Pro 2 with a Tab X (A4 is the size I'd primarily use in my work/productivity), but I also would love a 10.3" device because I frequently annotate smaller books and an A4 screen feels like overkill for that. My ideal setup would be to own all 3 (13.3", 10.3", and 7.8") but that's a bit extravagant for my budget so that's why I'm considering returning the 7.8".
    Thanks for reading this lengthy question! Your time is much appreciated.

    "It's a great way to break the analysis paralysis and get started with e-ink." Spot on! Got the Nova Air 2 about a month ago and love it! Use it for sketching architectural details and sharing notes, usually in analog. It's handwriting recognition is quite good though and that will be of use. Just take some care about it's login / logout, which Boox term Binding and Unbinding, and you'll be fine!

    Thanks for the video, I just ordered the Boox Note Air 2 Plus. Coming from Ipad Pro M1 and Kindle Paperwhite. Do you have a comparison done for which e-readers use which digitizers and refresh rates/lag rates? I would be curious to see if all the panels come from maybe 3 manufacturers and have identical specs. I would also be interested to see if there are specific panels with better performance regarding ghosting, lag, refresh rates, and ability to record pen strokes. It could also help to determine if there are OS performance related enhancements ie. Android vs Amazon vs what the others run.

    • @KitBetts-Masters
      @KitBetts-Masters  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hiya, yeah the eink panels are all pretty much the same, baring a few small things, (some have plastic top layers some have glass, different pixel densities etc.). But the pen latency is more a combination of the wacom EMR tech, the processing and the software. Voja at MyDeepGuide has amazing detailed spec and performance comparisons!

      @@KitBetts-Masters Thanks for the response. I actually bought the Boox Note Air 2 Plus and the Scribe. I decided to test my workflows on both. The Scribe seemed to fit best for my uses. The notes/writing/speed/battery life and just all around polished feel is what tipped the scale for me. All my books are on the kindle/amazon platform, so that was a pretty big driver. The kindle app on the Boox, while pretty good after getting the DPI Tweaking done/refresh/sizing etc.. it just had too many little quirks that bugged me personally. The Boox is pretty great, and a tuner/customizers dream. The writing on it feels good as well, probably slightly better than the scribe... However, I don't think that the pros were THAT much better than the Scribe for my 2-3 uses. The other big thing, that might not be a big deal for others, but during sign up for Boox there was some verbiage about data centers out of the US where data could be read/modified/shared/stored. Also, I don't recall the exact quote, but it was something to the likes of "We will do our best to keep your data private...." haha... The increased DPI on the Scribe is noticeable on some of my books(mostly technical in nature with diagrams).

    Hi. Please HELP!!
    I've obsessively watched reviews (mostly yours) over the last few weeks trying to decide which eink to go for. I've been back and to and then think I'm all set for wanting the supernote (regardless of the hefty price to get it from the US to the UK ) and then I see a comment somewhere and think .. argggh that won't work and I'm back to square 1 🙈 ... I love the sound of SNs keyword, digest, 🌟 and titles to organise and navigate through notes. I think I'd prefer pen to paper rather than pencil but for most effective note taking for me ... I want the ability to 'snip' parts of PDFs to add into my notes ... I've read that's not possible on SN?! Is it possible on any of them?
    This decision process is certainly a journey ... 😅

I replaced it with a Note Air 2 Plus and while its apps are quite clunky to use, the battery is amazing. I also loved how I could customize its gestures! Best review I've seen on all these notetaking E-Ink options!
    I've had my eyes on the Remarkable 2 for a while now, but after this I've had some new questions/concerns - maybe this thread can help
    I'm a filmmaker by trade, I want a device that helps me:
    1. Read and offer feedback on mine and other people's scripts right in the margins
    2. Screenshare Storyboards during zoom meetings or google meet
    3. If it can create spreadsheets or edit spreadsheets that can be exported as CSV's to help with metadata on shoots, that's a plus but I am not completely sold on that
    Could go small but probably want larger.
    I'm not interested in spending more than $600, but could be convinced
    I'm full IOS, too, so getting an Android device makes me feel bad, but it looks like there isn't another option for my needs. I used to think B/W was all I needed, but that was mainly because I didn't know color on E-Ink was even an option. Could help with feedback on scripts. I'll probably still storyboard in greyscale cuz I do like things to be simple, but color might actually be a game-changer...

    I don't think the e-ink tech is any good at the moment. I bought the onyx boox nova3 color 2 years ago and it is below average. Writing is kind of ok but not that good and I rarely use the device. Ghosting is a major issue and along with dark screen (I've to have the backlight on most of the time) it makes for a quite painful experience for the eyes. These are marketed as good for the eyes but I find myself very quickly with eyes in pain after using this, it must be the backlight (or frontlight as I've found out recently, the light is probably led in front of the screen, the worst kind of thing for the eyes).
    Also they are very expensive for what they are. They cost as much as an ipad and you'll be better off with the ipad for almost everything including eye strain.
    Curry's recently had a remarkable 2 on display. And the screen seems a lot better, it is white so the ink looks a lot more like paper. But suspiciously locked on a position with a light on top of it. And I wonder if they are doing this to show the device on an optimal light and avoid reflections?
    Just to mention a few drawbacks:
    - ghosting or very slow refresh. Choose your poison. And btw how is this better for the eyes? Either corrupted image or flashy-redraw every time you do something
    - as tablets they are pretty lousy. Slow, with an un-intuitive edition of android. Remarkable is not even a tablet. With Boox I tried their recommended screen sharing app (because you want these to draw things and share them on meetings). After like a billion security warnings when I was installing it on the boox tablet itself and also on my mac, the experience was terrible. I was drawing things that were not shown on my mac.
    It just makes me wonder: what's going on with all those youtube videos painting a good image for these tablets? They are slow, bad for the eyes, they won't replace pen and paper. The only reasonable one I've used so far was a kindle and that because I had to change page every a couple of minutes and it was ok. But even that one eventually I gave up in favor of normal books even if those were more expensive.

    • @KitBetts-Masters
      @KitBetts-Masters  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for sharing your experience!
      I think colour has come on quite a lot since then. Also, I've no issues regarding screen directly using the built in Mira cast in android, so no security issues there. I also find them very eye friendly, just as much as the Kindle. Although pure black and white eink is still optimal for simple text. You are right that always is better to go for good natural lighting on the screen rather than relying on the front lights, but the front lights are better than transmissive screens by a long way. I think the jury is probably still out as to whether they are better than an oled turned right down in dark mode though!

    • @kostas---
      @kostas--- 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KitBetts-Masters for me the front light hurts my eyes, I feel pain after a while. I noticed the same for my son (who is the other reason I am closely looking at these tablets because of his myopia). Also there is a lot of glare, you can see it in your videos too as soon as you move the tablets a bit away from the optimal lighting you have, but for me most of the time the light is not optimal at all. I would like something which works better taking into account the UK weather and how much sun we have here. My son also has a very good lamp (with floor stand) but still with the boox there is too much reflection/glare where as normal paper books are fine.
      Since my boox is color e-ink, it seems to be worse off regarding readability. And I see newer boox models are bit improved but I don't think that much that it will make a difference. So I am thinking BW is better but not a full tablet (they are pretty useless as tablets) because you can't even read a static web page. I've tried reading documentation (technical, programming stuff) but it is pointless. Most of web sites were not optimized for these devices. It is a bit OK with BBC or Guardian if you're ok with all the flashing and slowness.

    Buying a black and white e-ink tablet now is a bad idea, considering the fact that there are more and more color ones.

      Thanks, I sort of agree, but there are still some benefits in terms of contrast and clarity with black and white eink and for people who were only interested in reading and writing words that might still be better.

      Not is as myself you just want to write notes, the benefits of say... _'colour highlights'_ isn't enough to offset the darker screen baltgames1 has already touched upon or the higher battery consumption, but if writing notes isn't your bag then yes... you're spot on.

    Really glad that somebody is looking at the Bigmes.
    They have their strengths.
    ... And weaknesses but they fit a slightly different niche than Boox. So I'm glad to see you talk about them. They may be the only eink devices that play well enough with third party software that I can actually draw in third party apps without even using the global pen. There's a tiny lag without the global pen but it's very small and it's just enough to make me stop and pay attention to what I'm doing.

      I wish they had a 7.8 inch version of this tab ultra c.
      The camera is what really makes the tab Ultra C useful for me but it's too big, and to fragile, look around outside everywhere.

    I hope that Boox is generous to you 😉 I just bought the Tab Ultra C, because of your very good review! with the Keyboard as a bundle. Now it will sit next to my Kobo Libra 2 and iPad Pro - hopefully I will use it to its full potential 🙂. Thank you for your very insightful reviews.

    Those Eink as note takers are all laggy . All boox all Remarkable all and all are only one single thing - Laggy in hand write , pixilated , Low resolution ..
    For handwriting IPad is king . And in IPad using Noteshelf 3 is the way to go . And in Noteshelf 3 the way to go is using the fountain pen ( it is more of a regular pen albeit the name fountain ) and under fountain pen you want sensitivity OFF ( but ON is also good) and 0.5 or 0.6 or 0.7 or 0.8 thickness options.
    That is the best way to go for writing and I have tried them all - E ink and IPad. E ink is too laggy and pixilated for hand writing.
    For tipping also IPad is exactly like typing on a computer using even the same office bundles .
    Using Bluetooth pen is much more responsive quick the using any non Bluetooth pen . Bluetooth is a must for the pen not to be laggy .
    Ipad uses Apple Pencil which is a Bluetooth pencil .
    Also in Apple Pencil you can use the same tip for 10 years . With E ink the nib is becoming mushroom like and needed to be replaced every 2 weeks or so , even 1 week , and the writing experience which is not the best from the start has a ad decline slop as the nib gets worn so quickly . Also those E ink nibs needing fairly quick exchange is a huge cons.
    IPad screen and ease and fluid work and color accuracy are vastly superior to any E ink.
    iPad is the only way to go from any aspect.

      Hiya, all the Boox devices can access one note just fine. It's the Android app so as long as you are happy with that. Oh, also you could access it on the web app as well. I'd suggest either the Tab Ultra C Pro or the Note Air3 C. 🙂. (colour will be your friend in one note.)
