  • @qwertasd7
    @qwertasd7 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

Well I got a tab ultra C it's a life changer for work, no more paper notes, digitally one gets organized, the color part allows me to read technical drawings without problems.
But mostly the note taking app organizes me thinking through, I rarely type on it, although I do have the keyboard too, I prefer hand writing, usually in a bit thick solid lines of text who I then scale down and reorganize around the page (to make room for more ideas). I was always a strong visual thinker, and its kinda strange that most people are but at school people are not talked or trained on how to become more effective in that, in effect good notes make people smarter, to be free from keyboard, or .doc. or txt or other formats just a digital paper.
This apparatus had a great impact on me as a lead industrial developer, read project documentation, read pdf drawings, create notes, create sketches technical or software, form ideas.
    :) it's almost a human upgrade :)

I'm primarily a writer, and I find that as I age the only ergonomic way to work at a keyboard is at my desk in a proper chair with a nice big monitor. Ergo, more and more I just want my carried devices to be really good at accommodating handwriting, voice commands, etc. vs having a convenient keyboard input. The 3C is at the top of my current wishlist!

Since I’m only in this market for note taking and have that “writing” feel rather than typing. I probably prefer the air 3c. I was first looking at the remarkable2, but due to lack of features, I started to lean on the onyx air.

Great video, Kitt! I've been consuming your content having gotten myself a Kindle Scribe and discovering that I love writing during my work day as opposed to typing my notes in meetings and whatnot. In very short order I ended up purchasing a Tab Ultra C Pro with the keyboard case from Boox directly so I could also get the leather Folio case for free so that I have options for evening reading. Your demonstrations, analyses, and advice were instrumental in sending me down this path and I couldn't be happier. While I'm saddened that the Scribe will end up being returned at this point it is an incredible introductory device and wonderful for anyone that doesn't have a need for linking pages, notebooks, or other media into their notes. Thanks for taking the time and otherwise being inspiring with your more personal evaluation of everything, from life events onward.

I understand where you are coming from now. For your use case, the choice makes sense.
My counterpoint, though, is that I am an engineer. Although my principal product is a written report, I still do a *lot* of calculations. Although I could probably do this with one laptop, I really prefer to operate in the Macintosh world but am required to have a PC because of the numerical models I use.
I've been using a SuperNote A5x for the last couple of years as an experiment in digital note taking. As I approach the end of the year, I find myself drawn back to a paper notebook because I really like to write with my fountain pens. The A5x offers several advantages (cut and paste being a big one). It's also a little easier to carry all of my project notes along with me (and a few PDFs). But I am unconvinced that the digital notebook offers enough advantage over my paper bullet journal and ancillary notes that it's worth abandoning paper.
I won't be using a digital notebook for content creation, given my use case requiring the computational power of a laptop. (R scripts for data analysis and graphics preparation and numerical modeling.) But I can see how it would for other users.
    Thanks for a thoughtful video.

This video along with your comparison video of Boox v Remarkable really helped me reach an informed decision on what is best for my use case. I am teasing myself watching Boox videos for some reason, especially the colour (I tinker with art when the feeling takes). I am planning on getting an E-ink device to write my lab book (I’m a biologist who works in a molecular biology / nutrition lab). Currently I write in an A4 lab book by hand and it’s be cool to use E-ink instead and convert my notes to electronic text. I’d also like to use it at meetings and now I’m thinking I’d like a colour device so I can show my colleagues diagrams or plots quickly. Leaning towards the Air 4C but still undecided.

I stumbled upon your wonderfully comprehensive review/comparison by happy accident. As an indie author, this information is exceedingly useful. Due to extensive nerve damage, I find it challenging to stay in one place long enough to be productive, constantly switching between physical notebooks, my laptop, and my desktop computer; this tends to make my editing process even slower than normal. I've been searching for the perfect notetaking/editing device, and this video has been incredibly helpful! Thank you.

Thanks Kit, both yours and Voja's reviews on both these units have really helps me to make my purchase today! I ended up with a NA3C after comparing both unit side by side in a Boox distribution store. The only thing I really miss from the NA3C is the 855 chipset, but I know my use cases are pdf, Libby Magazines, web browsing and social media, maybe some drawings in the future. So really I suppose the portability and less reflective screen nails down the core requirements. And 665 + BSR seems provided enough juice for now. Ya I know I won't be able to PUBG or efootball on it, but I doubt I am gonna use that at all after the first few days fulfilling my curiosity...😅 And I know as long as it's on Android or IOS, it will not gonna be my productivity tool (hence Surface pro is still my faithful productivity goto). Anyway this TabUltraCPro is such a magnificent device and I was really having some hard times to choose between. Again thanks for both of your reviews. Massive effort!❤

I currently use an onyx boox N96 ML I bought in 2016, and a kobo 4 inch pocket reader. I've been waiting for eink tablets to catch up to the vision in my head and they are pretty close now. I used to use a bluetooth keyboard with my N96 and MS Word - but as it is still running on android 4.04, many apps aren't working - so now it is a reading tablet exclusively. I am happy they have the microSD back as I use them to sort my research and your comment about the bluetooth keyboard has me thinking whether I want the Note Air 3 C OR I really need the Tab Ultra C Pro... The price difference is definitely a deciding factor and so is the weight. I use Scrivener writing software on my Macbook Air which does not have an android version, so for now it would be using other apps and importing them into Scrivener later. If my eink tablet weighs the same as my laptop that could be a deal breaker! Decisions decisions!

I considered returning my note air 3C for a note Air 3 but to be quite frank, this tablet has really grown on me. I thought battery life would be a problem, but once you turn off Wi-Fi It can last for days if you're just reading which is what I primarily use it for. I'm not a writer so I don't really use the word processing capabilities of this thing nor really the note taking though I did just recently use it during a meeting and it was pretty useful. Normally I just type out my notes because I'm on my computer anyway but writing them out was definitely interesting. I'm a software engineer and it's kind of difficult to hand write out code but it can be used for more abstract concepts. Anyway great comparison. If I was a writer or a student, I would definitely be looking at the pro.

Kit, I have unanswered questions concerning the writing issues & note-taking.
    1) What's the lag when you start writing with the stylus? IS there a lag? Makes a diff if you're taking notes, especially during a lecture/talk. If the stylus doesn't work suddenly for a second after a minute's inactivity, you face a hitch every time you put pen to (paper). Not good. I've heard this is a pain: how bad is it?
    2) Palm rejection. I'm left-handed, find palm rejection is misery on every writing app I've tried on Android tablet & Windows tablet. IS THIS A PAIN on Boox? Am I going to have to wear a palm-rejection glove?
    3) Is note-taking better on either device?
    4) You have neglected to address security issues in the vids I've seen. It appears the older Boox is running Android 11 whereas Tab Ultra C is running Android 12. But Boox is notorious (in the past) for not doing much in the way of upgrades. They offer upgrades like a car company: want the new software? Buy a new car. On IT gear this is unacceptable.
I gather the Note Air 3 is 30 months out of date in security upgrades. The Tab Ultra C will be more up-to-date, but still WAY behind the market.
What's the point of buying a mission-critical device for note-taking if it's at huge risk of being bricked by a virus?
You use these things as mission-critical. What's your take on the security issue?
    5) Are there significant differences in functionality for note-taking on e-books & outputting to a Personal Knowledge Management System (PKMS) on PC? Do both devices essentially run the same software?
Thanks for putting out well thought-out & filmed vids. You do a great job of condensing a lot of info & impressions into a tight timeframe. I'm subscribed.

Glitches with my Ultra C Pro so far:
    Tablet getting frozen VERY often.
I bought an adapter from usb c to hdmi because i am a teacher and need to project. Tried 3 different tvs and 2 projectors. Not able to project in any of them via HDMI
Screencast option: SUPER DELAYED more than 10 seconds. That is why I prefer HDMI, no need to rely on wifi or bluetooth and those delays
Sometimes my stylus is 1 inch away from the tablet and draws are happening so it is impossible to do sketches or the apps are moving around but i am just trying to draw.
The nib of the stylus was damaged
I have 2 kids so I tried to buy a case and a screen protector. The only decent case because the one from Boox is sold out and there is no black option, is very disappointing. Not a good case. and the screen protector I bought made the tablet lose sensibility when using gestures or my fingers
I need to deactivate the NeoBrowser completely and just use Chrome. Impossible. Every ebook with links will take me to the Neobrowser and copy pasting a link is a long, almost impossible time consuming, duty. Not practical at all.
Probably is ettert to have a regular tablet for me and find a way to lower the lights for my tired eyes, Or instead of a super e reader, just a regular e reader, without fancy things like this one and then a computer or tablet. But I was looking to have one device only and this one looked like the right option. unfortunately it is not.
Support from Boox is none. A couple of emails and nothing back.

I'm struggling with buying a Tab Ultra C Pro vs an iPad with a paper-feel screen protector for notetaking in OneNote. My main use case is being able to hand write my notes in OneNote (for better memory retention) and then convert to text so that I can edit later in the day and email out summaries, etc. I also like the idea of being able to take notes on PDFs and ebooks, although most of my books are in Kindle or Libby, so I'm not sure if that's supported anyway. I primarily read books on my Kindle Oasis now.

Thanks for the review, I am leaning towards the tab ultra C pro more because of the back camera. I often need to scan documents on the go and it would be helpful to do it with de boox device and write directly on the scanned document, instead of scanning with my phone and then having to send it on the ultra c pro. Do you think it might be enough to offset the price and is here a solution for scanning documents with the air 3 ??

man, i'm really surprised you'rento one of the top TH-camrs already. You're videos are so concise - high density of chewable info, you don't get a load of rubbish or monologing that people usually do at first before they learn and edited well.
I guess that's also a good demonstration of how good these eInk pads are because you must be writing great scripts! Would you mind shaaring what you use to write clips please?

Do you have any experiences with the remarkable 2? I'm using this for years but now I need a device wich has a color display and can put screenshots in the notes.
Before I bought the remarkable, I got an old BOOX Note device and I wasn't happy with it, because i found it too slow to handle if you just use it for takeing notes and sync them with the cloud.
Do you think the BOOX Note Air 3C would be the right choice to replace the remarkable 2?

Hiya, yeah, I've got loads of content featuring the remarkable and a direct comparison between the remarkable 2 and the note air 3 C. Hope that helps you make the choice!
Short answer though, yes definitely, it would be a good replacement, as long as you were game for a bit of an initial learning curve!

I respect your opinion, but in my book the only tab ultra's advantage was kaleido 3. So note air 3 C with the new screen and processor is a much better choice. Especially for handwriting thanks to its preapplied screen protection and no camera at the back. I do not see any advantage that ultra has over the Air C.

    • @bellissimo4520
      @bellissimo4520 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Well I think it really boils down to usage - if you write on it (like Brett), the Ultra has advantages like the keyboard cover. But for me as someone who wants to take notes or draw some basic designs on the go, I think the Air 3c is the better choice too. It's even details like the more rounded edges. If you put the tablet on the table and mostly write just using a keyboard, that is irrelevant; but if you hold it for prolonged time, the smooth edges of the Note Air 3c are probable better.
I also prefer the Note Air 3c for these reasons, and think it will be a great christmas present for myself... 😁

Great video and I loved the walk down memory lane to the button kindle :-) I am excitedly waiting for my Pro to arrive today, and it's all your fault :-)
I agree with all your thoughts and I like that you reiterate that this device is not meant to be just a reader/writer and not even 'just' a tablet but almost competing with your laptop, which it beats in terms of battery life, weight etc etc - the kind of device that you can choose to bring with you instead of, not in addition to, your laptop on a trip. They are opening a new niche and attracting a completely new customer type - I'm the living proof as this is my first eink device ever and that's exactly what sold me. From that POV, even the price seems reasonable.
re the upgrade being incremental, I rather see it like because they just have small production batches, if they could improve something during the next one, why wouldn't they. This batch is meant for people like me who are not upgrading but just jumping in. If I could start with a device with the newer android and more ram for the extra few bucks why wouldn't I? And it will last me a while so I can skip a few more iterations before I decide to upgrade. And those who own the previous one might decide to upgrade sooner than me later on. Labels like 'pro' and 'ultra" and the like make me cringe a little, they could've probably just called it 1.5 or something like the software versions. But is that a big deal?lol
