Blloku is the trendiest neighbourhood in Tirana lined with many shops, coffee shops, bars and restaurants. It's close to many tourist attractions in Tirana, and it's where Skanderbeg Square is located in the city centre. We fell in love with this city as soon as we landed in Albania. It made a good first impressions on us. There are many hotels and hostels around, but since we planned to stay for a month in Tirana, we opted for an AirBnB apartment. It was a good home base for us since we plan to travel around Albania for a while. We are definitely happy with the apartment we are staying at. Yes everything that is pricey in Malaysia, is cheaper here. But I think accommodation is still cheaper in Malaysia.
KFC and Burger King are a thing in Albania but weirdly there's no McDonalds. Although McDonalds is the last thing Albania needs, it's got plenty of delicious food as it is.
Cheese and bread (called panine) tomato and dhallë if you eat this combination you will understand how good is this food in home
Thanks for this and other videos. Albania and especially Tirana has changed a lot , for the better, in the last 10 years. As an Albanian-Canadian I have come to realize , i'm missing a lot by living in Canada(GTA). Time to reevaluate...
The Albanian white cheese is great and if you like it, you should give Kackavall a try which is a premium cheese ,made out of goat's or sheep's milk.

The shops are lower than the road. Can't have this kind of shop buildings in Malaysia...and imagine the rain water!!
Very different and really nice to sit outdoor for a meal or drinks. The weather is so pleasant there. !
All those buildings that they have made shops on the basement, are from the Communist era and they have adapted them for shops as they cant afford to buy in new buildings.

What a nice apartment. And so convenient with so many different stores and food place. I love this place 😍 and I agree with you that it's a good home base to settled down whether temporary or permanent. Also not expensive such good food.👍👍👍
If you go to other more beautiful cities you'll pay 1/2 of price for everything.

Love the walking distance shops , what a convenient to buy groceries and dine-in 👍 wow so cheap did not expect the price of the cheese and cherries 😆 hope you guys had a great time 🥰😘

This cheese reminded me of my childhood. We used to buy this cottage cheese at the corner of our street in the oldtown Peshawar. I missed it so much that I tried to make it at home here in Sweden. Very simple process. If I were to live longer I could have moved to one of these countries after retirement.

It's great that you guys are thinking of Tirana as your home base as you travel around! Do let us know about your experience at the dentist too. How is it compared to Canada....price wise etc? In Canada dentists cost a lot unless your work place covers you! Wow the food is amazing! Who needs McDonald's!!!??
Woo! Thanks for watching and enjoying our video. The dentist was $25 USD per person for a cleaning, and the building inside was new and clean and very professional. The lady who cleaned my teeth did it very quickly! She used the little metal hook that squirts water and cleaned out my entire mouth in less than 20 mins! Overall, 5 star service :). And yes... who needs McDonald's!!
The cleaning in Toronto can go ten times higher or more and if you're lucky you can find a studio for $1200 :) I just came back from there and miss my Shkodër so much. Enjoy it guys🥳
@Bill Smegma The minimum wage in Toronto is $14 per hour but now with the pandemic employers are struggling to get people to work for $16 or $17 . Young people prefer staying home and collect $2000 per month from to the government.

The grape leaves with rice stuffing is something Arabs in Saudi used to make, called Varg Unub, which literally means grape leaves.
Its a food from the Ottomans everbody in Balkans,MENA eats it

In local areas of Tirana fruits and vegs are even cheaper. This is Blloku area and everything over there is expensive.

There is a big market in Tirana called Uzina Dinamo when fruits,vegetables,meat,cheese, oil,sugar,wines,rakija ,fish,olives etc,etc are very cheap compare to all areas in Tirana. For example you can buy quality cherries for 70 cent per kg, tomatoes for 60 cent per kg, apricots for 1.20$ per kg, peaches for 1$ per kg, olives for 1$,50 cent per kg, peppers for 40 cent per kg etc,etc.even fast foods,pizza shops,restaurants, bar cafe lounges are very cheap you can drink a nice cup of coffee for 50cent, big glass of beer for 1$ (pint), Burek for 30cent, Greek souvlaki for 1,50$, pizza Margarita normal size for 2$. As a tourist you've to explore all areas in Tirana not just Blloku and New Bazaar. Hahaha My friend you've been ripped off specially in New Bazaar when prizes are doubled. No Albanians goes there for shopping. New Bazaar is for rocky tourists like you.

My friend not far from Blloku I mean 15 min walk from that area still center of Tirana you can find quality flats for rent which are way better and cheaper compare to yours, well furnished for 300$ to 350$ in month. All are luxury flats located in new modern buildings. It's pandemic time which means less tourists and real estate prizes in Tirana are low. I couldn't stop laughing when you rated ur rented flat with 5 stars.

Steve and Ivana, I have not been following you guys for almost 3 weeks now and do you know why? I am so jealous of you guys. I hate travelling and yet after what you had shown me, I think Albania in an ideal place for me to live in terms of food and weather. Malaysia would be an ideal place for me, if it is few degrees cooler!

Non organic sweet cherries (free fruit flies included) are sometimes on special deals for less than 6$, normal price for non-organic is also around 8-14$ depends on shop&quality.

There is no snow in Tirana, or i can say, it snows once in a blue moon 😅
Sometimes It rains heavily during winter, but not as much as to cause floods 😊✌🏻

the food was great, but yes, it’s pricier than the average restaurants around
Its better to taste local food brand instead of mcdonald or kfc.
If you want to eat something cool try mixed cheese which means 50% cow milk 50% goat you wont regret it trust me.

Just because you was close to Blloku the price for the apartment was bit expensive but if you was a bit further the price would be half for the apartment

If you are in Tirana at the moment, there are several ways to find an affordable apartment for long term:
The easiest way, is to get the local newspaper called “Çelsi”. You can find at every kiosk in street that sells newspapers. The newspaper Çelsi publishes notifications about renting or buying apartment or job positions as well. That’s how most of the locals in Tirana find apartments for rent. From what I remember newspaper was in Albanian language only, but if you don’t speak the language you should be fine with just a google translate on your phone..
The other way is to go to real easter offices in Tirana. Just google it and many of them will show up on your screen. Just go there and most of them speak good english. Good luck.

Guys, dont be so hard on yourself on finding halal food, just chill and explore what you guys want okay 👍 muslim can still eat fish or any seafood and any vegetarian food tho. For worst case scenario we will eat instant noodle 😆
