Hey bro is it difficult for Asians to date/marry Albanian girls? I've seen some of the most beautiful girls I've ever met in my life during a very short visit to Tirana & Berat. They were just like holding an average Android phone casually waiting for a bus or walking on the streets, no tattoos, no plastic surgeries, no stupid "luxury" bags and not looking entitled. Just down to earth girls that happen to be some of the most naturally beautiful women I've ever seen. I did some research online and read that Albanian girls don't marry foreigners (more like Albanian parents don't want their daughters to marry foreigners) unless he's a rich white American sort of thing. I do live in a developed country, coming from a middle class family, having a decent job, but I'm not white and I actually grew up in Asia so most of my family connections/relationships were back there. And I don't speak any Albanian but I'm willing to learn if I marry/date an Albanian.

Excellent accurate video Kevan. Im Albanian American living in US since 1997. Worked in the police force in Albania and Massachusetts police as well. In 2017 and 2018 lived a brief period in Tirana my birthplace. Although as an albanian born I was judging things as a " foreigner" and I couldn't not agree more with you. I noticed kids play football until midnight in the playground and my US mind got under alert initially, than I reminded myself that I was in Albania where kids live in one of the safest country to be a child. We played football at the Universiteti (;Mother Tereza Plaza) everyday until 0200 in the morning until our parents came to get us. As for racism: 1. Looks/steer its a common thing there and they steer a lot and everyone nevermind being a foreigner that look different and out of curiosity. 2. If someone yells at you any phrase in English, they don't do it to pick on you primarily but to impress other Albanians that they can speak English. 3. For what I have seen abroad Albanians appreciate friendship and are not racist people. Bronx NY is a tale of unbreakable friendships between albanians and african americans. In many occasions myself being in uniform and with accent being singled out officer by African American folks and in the moment they're told I was Albanian they immediately showed a great positive attitude pointing their albanian friends, neighbors and relationships. One very pretty lady once said: Are you Albanian? .. I surprised by her accuracy said yes and asked how she figured it out. She said that I talked like her Albanian boyfriend... Kevan my brother , appreciate you and your precise nsight about my old Country.

@@shaclo1512 well for a few different reasons I grew up in Europe though I’m an American. I feel a lot more comfortable with a European lifestyle. Most of the American lifestyle, no matter where you go it’s going to be very suburban which means perfect houses and lawns, but no vibe or feeling of community whatsoever. Everybody drives in their car, long distances, and most people spend the vast majority of the time, working really hard to pay off student loans and healthcare debt, everything here is extremely expensive I’m talking 4-5 times more expensive than for example, Albania were the quality is essentially the same or less even because shipping routes are far longer suited to much larger country and more isolated so the quality and freshness of food is less than you would find in a place like Albania, for example I could go on and on.

I'm here for the same reasons. We're a mixed-race US couple nearing retirement ourselves. In Albania it's a tradition thingy to tip. You reward the waiter's kindness and we give people the incentive to be kind consistently. Even in times if poverty, tiping was very common. The amount doesn't matter, only the act.

Thanks for sharing. You infer some interesting insight into the Albanian-psyche. I live in Chiang Mai,Thailand, a few years ago some Canadian-expats relocated to Sarande and opened up a small business. They have been raving about the place and because there are no Thai restaurants or ethnic-food options suggested that we should consider it as a ripe seasonal business opportunity. From exploring Albania via YT-vids I'm really impressed with many aspects of the country and look forward to visiting in the near future. But, I still remain strangely apprehensive about the idea of setting-up a Thai-restaurant there. Local tongue-taste may not be open to Thai flavors. I don't know....for example, just seems odd that there are no Chinese there...they are basically everywhere a door is open. I still find Albania fascinating and hope to check it out soon for myself.
Thai food is great, I'm sure that people will love it. But don't think that you will become wealthy with a restaurant, it's the same like in Thailand, you can live normal with that income.
Thanks for that. Yes, I'm aware of the price point in Albania, which is about the same as a Thailand tourist area. The intent is to experience a new culture and the challenge of introducing a different cuisine into the market. We look at it as a seasonal business only, not a get rich quick operation.
@@albloves Thanks for that. My impression is that Sarande is starting to attract a more diverse crowd (multi-national) rather than predominately Albanians.
Hi Kevan. Thank you for the informative video. We are retired educators interested in retiring in Europe. We were in Lviv last year for 5 months opening a new school, then stayed in Krakow for 6 weeks, and Tallinn for a month. It seems hospitality is unique to Europe compared to my hometown of Los Angeles. Albania's hospitality reminds me of the great Ukrainians we met there. But I also read that Albania has a challenge with safety. As seniors, I wonder if we would feel lost there. Are there many English-speaking expats? We are also looking at Montenegro. Thank you! Dean & Cindy
@@jackflanagle6079 Hi Jack. Thanks for the reply. What have you discovered about Montenegro that uniquely impacts seniors? While we could buy health insurance there, I have concerns about the quality and expertise of medical care in the region. Your thoughts? Thanks! Dean & Cindy
@@DeanRamser I can only speak about Herceg Novi which lies close to Croatia. Lots of friendly locals, good if very strenuous walking town. Crowded in summer but really great the of the year. For expats the coastal strip from Herceg Novi to Bar is probably the best bet. Lots of English spoken, especially by the young. Interior Montenegro is at a much higher altitude with cold winters. Few English speakers up there. The winter coast is kind of similar to parts of CA or OR with big storms rolling in but lots of nice weather too. Health care is basic. Emergency services are good. For something chronic you might want to go elsewhere. (I'm planning to have a cataract op sometime in the future likely in Belgrade). Something very serious like a bypass I would head for Thailand or Malaysia. I've been to the hospitals in both countries. Really top-notch and friendly. There is a long-standing medical spa here that treats a number of ailments and gets a lot of people coming from Scandinavia but I have never been there. All the best.

We played football at the Universiteti (;Mother Tereza Plaza) everyday until 0200 in the morning until our parents came to get us.
As for racism:

Hey man, great video, so glad you shared all of those experiences you’ve had over such a long time there! My wife and I and little child are going to be moving to Albania from the United States in the next six months or so, and we very much look forward to many of the things that you recommended and the experiences that you’ve had 🎉
would be interesting to hear the reason why you want to move to Albania, especially when you live in a great country like the US
@@shaclo1512 well for a few different reasons I grew up in Europe though I’m an American.
@@travisross8704 wow, thanks for the answer. I understand your points, I live in Germany (parents are Albanian so I have a bit of connection to that part of Europe) and I think I know what you mean. Here in Germany I also feel like everything is much systematic, everything has its order, everyone follows the tiniest rules etc. But I really miss that easy going life what I experience when I'm in Albania. Good luck for you and your family.

@@shaclo1512 thank you! By the way I used to live in Regensburg Bavaria. I understand the “oppressive “ feeling one can get from living is such places at times. Of course there are also upsides to living in Germany too. Still love Regensburg!
Great video! I laughed out loud at the "zoo of birds and ducks" comment. My wife and I have been living in different countries for the last 17 years. I found all of these comments could be said about many places, but I'm looking forward to spending more time in Albania.

Thanks for the honest review. I plan to visit Albania in the summer. I live in Croatia now, and exploring other places in the region with better residency policies.

@@MrKevanHudson Thanks for the reply. I visited a few weeks ago, for two weeks, but didn't like it enough for residency purposes. I was in Tirana, Berat & Vlore. Driving was terrible, way too much garbage and my dog had to 💩 on the street and sidewalk due to lack of green space near the accommodation. YMMV

Thanks for the pros and cons. Gentrification is something I've observed since I left the states and started traveling abroad, specially in my homeland. I plan to visit Albania soon, but I won't be renting as I'll be bikepacking. Found a campsite in Tirana for I think 5-7 bucks a day. I plan to do a visa run every 3 months from Schengen to countries outside of it. Cheers
Spectacular video. Im in the US right now finishing a salmon season in Alaska, and I had been planning to move to Colombia when its over, but I just happened to come across an article talking about the year long visa free thing for Americans, and after a little research, I've fallen in love with a country i knew nothing about 2 weeks ago. Ive been watching a lot of vloggers these past couple weeks, and this video in particular has been the most informative and insightful so far. Everyone else seems to just talks about the prices, food and brush over other superficial subjects and all that jazz. Ill probably be there in about a month, and I'd love to buy you coffee or dinner and just chat with you if youre down.

@@Lensmaster1 there’s a lot of people but none of them are making videos for some reason. Plenty of people who can explain things WAY better than me.
There's a reason for that.
@Flat_Earth_Addy Enlighten us on what that reason is.
@@Lensmaster1 Its obvious. Expensive, rude, racist, dangerous nation. Child sex slaves, organ harvesting, blood feeds, mafia, gangs, terrorism. Power and water always off. No toilets. Drugs, guns, murder.
Don't overpay for stuff.
And please, please, please don't tip. Restaurant owners will just start feeling they can underpay employees because the responsibility will be on the clients.
locals tip here, idk why you're telling people not to tip. But people shouldn't over tip and overpay, I do agree with this.
In Albania it's a tradition thingy to tip. You reward the waiter's kindness and we give people the incentive to be kind consistently. Even in times if poverty, tiping was very common. The amount doesn't matter, only the act.
Albania is good for big corporations and if you have enough money to “retire” ! Albania has nice weather , beaches, good food, mountains, and reasonable good prices for fast food . Very insightful. Thank You. I like your take on things, about keeping it real. Unfortunately for me, being retired, I am looking for good Healthcare.
Who told you there is no Chinese in Albania they are the first emigrants who settled in Tirana they have their own market
@@songsabai3794
With some dedication and patience I think you’ll have success if decide to undertake such business here.

I'm a retired American with several years experience living in Herceg Novi, Montenegro. If you have any questions about this area just ask. Good luck.
