Good job with the review! these field watches are lovely. i have the green one snk805 on a military zulu strap to give it a little more presence. they do look great on those type of stitched leather straps like yours.
You just had the flu, bro - most people used to take a hit from the flu once a year-ish before we could over-dramatize it on the internet. Glad you're feeling better though - great job on the reviews.
I do not agree that Seiko 5 is the best beginners watch anymore. It is a antiquated idea from almost 10 years ago when they were going for like $55 on amazon. The prices have increased substantially. Also the competition has increased. I own a Seiko 5, the SNK381K. It came with a folded link bracelet, probably the most unpleasant resizing I've ever done, and not sapphire crystal. Incidentally it also now has a rather large scratch down the middle because of this and this is from limited use. I am not saying the Seiko 5 is a bad watch, but honestly the Chinese companies are now homaging Seiko watches better than Seiko makes them. Steel Dive or pagani design for example makes watches better than seiko 5 at similar prices. Or the best non automatic beginners value would be some kind of Casio. The edifice line is pretty great and the classic digitals inspired by the f91-w like the ultra thin A700w. Or spend just a tiny bit more than seiko 5 and get a cool watch like a seagull 1963 a hand wind chrono replica. I just feel like the corners Seiko are cutting are no longer acceptable to be competitive in today's market.
I too, have mentioned this in the video. It's probably the reason why this original Seiko 5 is no longer even in production. However, if someone manages to find a used piece that was well taken care of, at a good price, it's still a good value. I would say the Seiko 5 is a safe option as a beginners watch. If you buy it new, you get a year of warranty, something which the Chinese brands don't guarantee, depending on what country you reside in. Yes, granted theres only a small chance you will need to make use of said warranty from these brands, but I have seen people get completely turned off from watches purely because the first one they bought is a used piece or a brand new watch without warranty and it has broken on them. I would say all these factors make it a fantastic watch to get for a beginner. Not in terms of specifications, but purely in terms as a beginners piece. I still have mine. And imo it just has a charm I can't describe, I've had a few Pagani designs with me and still have some. But they just don't really give me the same feeling, but of course, this is just my opinion.
I agree Seiko has moved up market in order to give leeway for their sub-brands (Orient and Alba). Owning a few modern seikos, I would say they've slightly tapered off over the years in terms of quality especially in crown and bezel alignment... (there's a 20% you get a bad unit). However, Seiko has not stayed stagnant, not long ago I acquired a Seiko X Honda limited edition SRPD model, having owned a few SRPD's at different years of production, I was thoroughly surprised at the brilliant build quality of the Honda watch, the bezel felt 30% better, the Nato strap is in a whole different league to previous limiteds that I purchased, the red backplate had a clean print and the alignment was immaculate (though I have a feeling I was just lucky). For $450 I could not think of a better watch for the price. If seiko simply keeps doing what they're doing we should see them solidify their higher market position in years to come.
Except "the Seiko 5" isn't a watch. It's a category that has literally hundreds of different watches of varying qualities. You might as well say something like "the automatic movement is the best watch."
In the video I talked about the whole line of Seiko 5s, with a general reference being the snk809k2. This line does not include the modern seiko 5 sports.
I did not realize I was watching a small channel until I scrolled down, it is a really high quality and well made video thank you!
Thank you too!
I have the 805 and I love it. I actually even love the oem strap. Don’t know why people hate it so much
Well done. You earned yourself a new subscriber. God Bless!
Thank you very much!

I agree wholeheartedly!
