    Changing the crystal, the strap, and polishing the case really takes this watch to a whole different level. I don’t think anyone would believe that it’s a sub $100 timepiece

    After watching this, I am absolutely convinced that I do not want to try replacing the crystal on any of my watches. I'm taking it to a jeweler/watch-maker. Every time. Result looks good, though. Think you got lucky. Big time.

  • @Iberian247
    @Iberian247 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    FYI, I've used a nail clipper before to snip the corners off of a 22mm strap to fit a 20mm with decent results... Worth a try. You could create your own "outside the lug" fit.

    • @minitwatch
      @minitwatch  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's genius. I will give that a shot.

    • @Iberian247
      @Iberian247 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +minitwatch BTW, I'd use a 90 degree cut (with two separate snips on each strap edge) versus a single corner cut...

    • @blairtaylor9552
      @blairtaylor9552 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nail clipper's a good idea. I've done many in the past with a single-edge razor blade. They ALWAYS look better when you start with a wider band and notch to fit. :-)

    Thanks. This helped me replace my snzg15 crystal in about 15 minutes. I found lifting the part that holds in the crown more effective than pressing anything. Maybe the're different. Same for reinserting it, lift plate, slide in. New crystal (Crystal Times) worked very well.

    do all crystals pretty much come in standard sizes that the watchmakers adhere to? I mean, are all crystal diameters measured in millimeters, maybe in half millimeter increments or less? So can ANY watch crystal be changed to an anti-reflective sapphire? Just wondering. I have a single-side AR mineral crystal that I'd like to change to Dual-coated AR sapphire... The double AR coating really makes a big difference too! Should this be possible for ANY watch, if I go to a jeweler or watch store? Tks...

    K.Under most lighting conditions, is the crystal purely clear? Or is there a slight blueness to be distracting. Your video quality [awesome], made it look very neutral on the 809. Thanks

    • @minitwatch
      @minitwatch  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find it it to be very clear in most lighting and sometimes more so than the original crystal. There are of course, times where the dome will reflect a wider area however the AR coating does a great job and only will reflect blue around the edges of hard light. The dome is also very slight.

      Hmmm. I would probably go with green! Measure the crystal's diameter and thickness and see what's out there. It might be okay if something's a bit too thick. I have a new video coming out soon where I did just that. :)
