Changing the crystal, the strap, and polishing the case really takes this watch to a whole different level. I don’t think anyone would believe that it’s a sub $100 timepiece
After watching this, I am absolutely convinced that I do not want to try replacing the crystal on any of my watches. I'm taking it to a jeweler/watch-maker. Every time. Result looks good, though. Think you got lucky. Big time.
FYI, I've used a nail clipper before to snip the corners off of a 22mm strap to fit a 20mm with decent results... Worth a try. You could create your own "outside the lug" fit.
Nail clipper's a good idea. I've done many in the past with a single-edge razor blade. They ALWAYS look better when you start with a wider band and notch to fit. :-)
Dude your comments throughout the video were hilarious, you had me giggling during the whole thing xD I found your vid because my 809 just got a tiny scratch, barely visible, but I know it will drive me mad from now on until I do something about it... I subbed, btw!
You have made a superb job of improving this already stunning albeit budget Seiko... I acquired the same watch this morning... My first impression was it was even better than I had anticipated... I own other watches, including two Hamilton,s..... Had I purchased this Seiko sooner, I may never had owned the Hamilton,s....Thanks for sharing your videos... Most enlightening...
Love the raw videos man ! I'm not huge into watches , I actually do not even own one. But i find content creators such as yourself informative and entertaining !
Very entertaining and informative. Love the polish. Makes all the difference. I polished the lugs on mine but not the bezel. Definitely doing the bezel now. That WalMart strap really is handsome too. Well done!
Thanks. This helped me replace my snzg15 crystal in about 15 minutes. I found lifting the part that holds in the crown more effective than pressing anything. Maybe the're different. Same for reinserting it, lift plate, slide in. New crystal (Crystal Times) worked very well.
I really love your channel probably because I love watches x) btw I had just polished and change a crystal on a Mvmt first generation watch It was pretty satisfying I got all my stuffs from your video ! I will just need a magic ball, a few more microfiber, special gloves and other stuff to clean the watches as much as possible when I finished the job ! thanks a lot have a nice day
Stumbled on to this video because I was interested in a Seiko 5 field watch with a similar dial but green. Great video. Watches have always fascinated me. All the small intricate parts that work together to keep time, simply amazing. Enjoyed watching the video so much I subscribed. I would love to learn how to work on watches. Great channel thanks for sharing your knowledge. All the Best,Jeff
I like how clumsy this video is. Reminds me of my first time changing straps with a cheap spring bar tool. A little blood was involved. And that was just a month ago😂
This is so awesome. Job well done! I have the same watch and I've been thinking how good it must look with some polishing. You took it up a notch with that sapphire domed crystal. Great stuff!
Just switches from a top of the line nato strap to a black rubber Barton strap on my SNK 809 and it is sooooo much more comfortable and it actually stays in place.
Nice job! What was the size of the sapphire crystal you got? I know that the watch case is at 37mm but I’m not quite sure if I should also get 37mm for the sapphire crystal.
Dude... I want that! That is one of my very favorite watches. What you've done is make it sooooo much better!!!! If you ever get the urge to do that to a blue one or another black one, let me know and I would love to buy it from you. That is absolutely awesome!
Where did you get that strap from? It looks like 20mm with 18mm lug width. I know you can make 20mm fit 18 but cutting off the edges a bit, but you need a special tool for that, not sure if blade knife will do it.
LOL love this video. It has given me the confidence to go ahead and do the crystal on my SNK809. edit: JK, found the video I was looking for directly to the right.
I have a grey leather strao with black trim it is a TIMEX expedition strap.I think it is essentially the same as yours but it's a few years old already.
Are all seiko 5 snk, sxn 37-38mm watches use the same size of crystals? I asked because in your provided site, there is available sapphire crystals for snk809 but not for other snk and snx series. Thanks
Good day! You have not thought about the possibility of increasing waterproof of the watch, such as the installation of a suitable crown from a different model seiko..
Wanted to look over the process before doing!!! Great work! Additionally, every time I rig a press, I will forever remember the immortal phrase of "GET IN MY BELLY" at 7:42 :)
When you put a third die in the press for some reason I had a feeling things weren’t going to end well... but happy to be proved wrong. Hopefully I can get a crystal and try the same thing with my SNK! Cheers.
Haha I thought the cloth in front of the SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL was funny so you didn't scratch it. Great video though! Thanks for the useful links as well!!
do all crystals pretty much come in standard sizes that the watchmakers adhere to? I mean, are all crystal diameters measured in millimeters, maybe in half millimeter increments or less? So can ANY watch crystal be changed to an anti-reflective sapphire? Just wondering. I have a single-side AR mineral crystal that I'd like to change to Dual-coated AR sapphire... The double AR coating really makes a big difference too! Should this be possible for ANY watch, if I go to a jeweler or watch store? Tks...
K.Under most lighting conditions, is the crystal purely clear? Or is there a slight blueness to be distracting. Your video quality [awesome], made it look very neutral on the 809. Thanks
I find it it to be very clear in most lighting and sometimes more so than the original crystal. There are of course, times where the dome will reflect a wider area however the AR coating does a great job and only will reflect blue around the edges of hard light. The dome is also very slight.
Pretty sweet. Love your antics. You made me laugh a couple of times dude. I'm probably going to buy myself a Seiko automatic and upgrade the crystal like you did. I need to check prices on everything. Also, check ebay for horween straps. Some nice ones made in the USA.
doesn't seem to find glasses for sarb017 the alpinist you reviewed before. do you think it'd be better choose Green AR coating if i choose to put it on sarb017?
Hmmm. I would probably go with green! Measure the crystal's diameter and thickness and see what's out there. It might be okay if something's a bit too thick. I have a new video coming out soon where I did just that. :)
Changing the crystal, the strap, and polishing the case really takes this watch to a whole different level. I don’t think anyone would believe that it’s a sub $100 timepiece
SunsetSheen look like à Hamilton idk why
Did it on m SNKL41J1 and now it look like 700 usd watch
That turned out nicely, but I hope you're not allowed near power tools.
😂😂😂
This kind of felt like watching a train wreck
You mean john wik wacht ??
"If my dumb ass can do it, so can you!"
Hahahaha very inspiring words!!
After watching this, I am absolutely convinced that I do not want to try replacing the crystal on any of my watches. I'm taking it to a jeweler/watch-maker. Every time. Result looks good, though. Think you got lucky. Big time.
Just finished making my own Seiko 5 809k custom. I love it! Looks better than a Hamilton khaki
FYI, I've used a nail clipper before to snip the corners off of a 22mm strap to fit a 20mm with decent results... Worth a try. You could create your own "outside the lug" fit.
That's genius. I will give that a shot.
+minitwatch BTW, I'd use a 90 degree cut (with two separate snips on each strap edge) versus a single corner cut...
Nail clipper's a good idea. I've done many in the past with a single-edge razor blade. They ALWAYS look better when you start with a wider band and notch to fit. :-)
My girl got one of those "Ball removers of justice" too... We should get a support group going.
I love everything about the watch. From the polish of the case, to the strap, and sapphire replacement.
I think you can just push the crown back in without pushing on the release mechanism, it should just click.
Good to know!
looks so good polished
wazrasta why is it polished I only see these in a flat color
Gio He polished it on his own.
You're nervous about a piece of plastic scratching sapphire?
Unless maybe the plastic discs are diamond-infused or something?.. :P
Chuck Norris made that plastic
there could be tiny sand particles between the plastic and the sapphire so.....
He was nervous about cracking the crystal. He said sapphire is brittle... But, better be safe than sorry...
I was glued , learnt something , the music at the end was excellent. The watch ,well it was absolutely gorgeous, well done old chap .
ohhh man!!! first polishing a watch.... now changing crystals??!!! i looove love love these videos man.... this is one of your best videos
I'm doing what I can to keep this train going. Besides, it's all so much fun for me! Thanks!
Gosh, the suspense was killing me, real edge of your seat stuff, better than a lot of movies to be honest, and hilarious! Nice work!
Dude your comments throughout the video were hilarious, you had me giggling during the whole thing xD I found your vid because my 809 just got a tiny scratch, barely visible, but I know it will drive me mad from now on until I do something about it... I subbed, btw!
Watch scratching tutorial starts at 4:20. Thank me later. ;)

I own other watches, including two Hamilton,s..... Had I purchased this Seiko sooner, I may never had owned the Hamilton,s....Thanks for sharing your videos... Most enlightening...
Nice job.
What is the diameter and thickness of the glass for this Seiko SNK805 watch?
"So what I did to compensate for that was to get a big truck!" ROFLOL!!!! I'm still ROFLOLing about that! That was pure brilliance! X-)
Love the raw videos man ! I'm not huge into watches , I actually do not even own one. But i find content creators such as yourself informative and entertaining !
Yeah, that's how it should look like! Amazing!
Very entertaining and informative. Love the polish. Makes all the difference. I polished the lugs on mine but not the bezel. Definitely doing the bezel now. That WalMart strap really is handsome too. Well done!
Thank, you! I appreciate that!

Your excitement brings me joy :D good job on the work

Not boring at all man! So funny and informative haha
Thank you, kindly!
"Balls to the wall, Balls deep!" hahahahahahaaa
=p
He is as clumsy as I am.
I like how clumsy this video is. Reminds me of my first time changing straps with a cheap spring bar tool. A little blood was involved. And that was just a month ago😂
:D good job, I found it like a complete movie, we have a story with some drama and a happy end!
Thanks! lol
The truck joke was really funny
yeah that was a good one;-)
good stuff man.......im so stoked for this video...
Great vid. The watch looks incredible. Strap is good too.
Impressed.
This is so awesome. Job well done! I have the same watch and I've been thinking how good it must look with some polishing. You took it up a notch with that sapphire domed crystal. Great stuff!
how much would it cost to have this done by a professional?
Just switches from a top of the line nato strap to a black rubber Barton strap on my SNK 809 and it is sooooo much more comfortable and it actually stays in place.
Love these mod videos. Keep doing these mod videos. Love them
Will do! Thanks for watching!!
don't know why, but I really like watching, well done.
Thanks, Wayne!
Nice job! What was the size of the sapphire crystal you got? I know that the watch case is at 37mm but I’m not quite sure if I should also get 37mm for the sapphire crystal.
That sweep looks buttery-smooth in 60 FPS. Sweet baby Jesus.
Wow.. that was easier than I thought. Thanks for the video.
No problemo, man! It was definitely easier than I thought it would be too. I was still nervous though!
Love the strap. The SNK809 looks great polished. I might do this job myself
the way how clumsy you were, i facepalmed many times, but the final result was sweeeeet .. GJ man.
Yeah. I get anxiety and I was definitely feeling it while making this video. It happens. Thanks, man!
Dude... I want that! That is one of my very favorite watches. What you've done is make it sooooo much better!!!! If you ever get the urge to do that to a blue one or another black one, let me know and I would love to buy it from you. That is absolutely awesome!
The watch looks so awesome, congratulations
I have to say that your intro and outro are exceptionally made. Well done on the crystal too!
“So I bought a big truck” I am DEAD 😂
Definitely deserve more subscribers, would like to see it expand
Where did you get that strap from? It looks like 20mm with 18mm lug width. I know you can make 20mm fit 18 but cutting off the edges a bit, but you need a special tool for that, not sure if blade knife will do it.
I like the way you cleaned the desk
Efficient lol
What strap are you using, it’s slightly wider than the lugs? Looks good 👍🏻
LOL love this video. It has given me the confidence to go ahead and do the crystal on my SNK809. edit: JK, found the video I was looking for directly to the right.
I don't even own a watch, or know much about them, and I found this interesting and entertaining.😂
Thanks for sharing the and being honest about the frustrations too. No need to apologise for the length imho bro, not boring at all. Great job.
Thanks, Hamish! Cheers!

Dude...you are awesome! Love your presentation style. Definitely gonna have to try this with my SNK809!
Really nice job look awesome..
Good day! You have not thought about the possibility of increasing waterproof of the watch, such as the installation of a suitable crown from a different model seiko..
I would like to know the glass of the watch is a simple crystal or a double crystal D
Thank's for your answer.
Very good job 👍🏼
wow that polished steel looks really good
I'm so amazed at what you did. The SNK809 went from plain to a Hamilton look! Wow
Cheers.
Which crystal did you use (diameter and thickness and brand)?
Haha I thought the cloth in front of the SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL was funny so you didn't scratch it. Great video though! Thanks for the useful links as well!!
Gotta love seiko watches, especially after youve modded them, love ur channel, keep going the way you are 👌⌚👍
Hey!! I’m doubting about getting AR BLUE coatd for mine... i’m not sure about the bluish look... recomend me what to do!!
17 people broke there watches because of you.Keep it up! Great vid.
Looks really good!
On a SNK, does the bezel come off the watch case? I would like the polish the bezel only on my SNK809.
Very nice video, and you seem like a very nice guy! 👍🏾👍🏾
do all crystals pretty much come in standard sizes that the watchmakers adhere to? I mean, are all crystal diameters measured in millimeters, maybe in half millimeter increments or less? Nice music in your vids!:) great SNKs by the way!
such beautiful watch

How long did it take to polish and which polish did you use please? Great video. Thanks.
Made me go out and buy one. Definitely wanna do the same things you've done with yours
Did you ever find any more 18mm stamps that came off the lugs like the brown strap?
Was not boring, you are extremely clumsy and fun to watch
Hey how do you polish the watch that it shines like this? Do you have a video on that?
You can use a dremel
Nice job. Looks great!
Thanks, Aaron!
very nice watchm I like the case and the leather strap.
Just so you know, 14:12 made me immediately subscribe to this channel. Such manly watchmaking :D
Hehe. Awesome! Thans, Nicolas!
Awesome, can we swap on any watch from Mineral to saphirrire
nato strap will definitely look good on this watch
It absolutely does!
Get in my belly! Okay, your in charge of changing all my crystals now.
Dude, I didn't even realize that 18 mins has passed lol :D
Love the video!
I bought an Snk809 a few weeks ago and now I've dumped more more into it than its actually worth. This watch is like a BMW
Looks amazing!
Damn that turned out nice! Seiko really should hire you.
Yo hear that, Seiko? *cough*. ;p. Thanks, man!
I have the same watch and the original crystal has a scratch. Do you know what size the crystal is?
Pretty sweet. Love your antics. You made me laugh a couple of times dude. I'm probably going to buy myself a Seiko automatic and upgrade the crystal like you did. I need to check prices on everything. Also, check ebay for horween straps. Some nice ones made in the USA.
Where did you buy the strap? It's cool
Thanks for showing us.....The Crystal Method.
*Sunglasses*
Hi nice video...I will do same thing, but let me know what is glass diameter for SNK809 ? Thank you by advance
doesn't seem to find glasses for sarb017 the alpinist you reviewed before. do you think it'd be better choose Green AR coating if i choose to put it on sarb017?
Hmmm. I would probably go with green! Measure the crystal's diameter and thickness and see what's out there. It might be okay if something's a bit too thick. I have a new video coming out soon where I did just that. :)
