    You made me get this watch. It’s gonna be my first automatic, and I was kinda juggling with this and the Casio Duro, I know, two different worlds of watches, but yeah. But after watching this, I’m sure I’m not gonna regret it. You’ve also put down quite a historic class for me..

      Glad to hear it! Yes I think you made a great choice out of two great choices. These Seikos and Casios both get a huge amount of respect from watch enthusiasts and for good reason. Personally I like the mechanical aspect of the Seiko but both are great. I am excited for your new watch - it will serve you well and for a very long time!

Great story on how you obtained your Seiko and how it remains a special part of your collection. Really surprised on how inexpensive it is. I put my Omega into retirement about 5 years ago when I retired. I bought it new when I was about 18, I think it was £21.00 I didn't want to get it bashed about whilst gardening and working in my shed, so I decided to get a rugged utility watch. After seeing some reviews I chose this Seiko 5, it was only about £54.00 mail order, Its been very good, Like you touched on, I did adjust it as it was running slow, I over did it and it was then running too fast so I adjusted it again, as you say it only needs the slightest touch, so now it is only slightly slow, also what I do is put it on a couple of minutes ahead and then by the time it drops behind time, its then keeping within a decent time range for about a month or so, now I hardly alter it until It comes to adjusting the date when due , I do this before noon. if you do it in the afternoon of course then it changes the date noon the next day, obviously, but it did fox me the first time I did it. Another thing I had to get used to with a watch with a date, it didn't need changing at the beginning of the months following those months with 31 days.

    • @TheTimelyFocus
      @TheTimelyFocus  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is quite the story! Sounds like your Omega served you very well! Yes, the Seiko 5 is a great watch that can be worn in a huge range of settings. Glad you were able to adjust yours to what sounds like are some great tolerances!

    I've just ordered the 809(black) version, and have a new med.brown leather strap waiting for it. One unfortunate downside to its popularity is that Amazon UK are asking £150 ($206) for this particular watch, but you can still get it for a more reasonable price - I paid £65.

    I usually wear a Hamilton khaki king and what I noticed is after a full day of just normal activity my watch is fully wound. Even if the watch spring is completely unwound, after a day of wear it’ll be complete topped up when I take it off at night. But I guess it’s hard to tell if the seiko 5 is fully wound at the end of the day since you can’t manually wind it yourself to check.

    • @TheTimelyFocus
      @TheTimelyFocus  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Khaki King is a sweet watch! Glad you are enjoying it. Yes, the winding mechanisms are pretty efficient. I find the same thing to be true myself about my Kaki Field Auto and Tissot Gentleman (both have a very similar movement). Interestingly I do not always find this to be true about my GS. Maybe this is due to the fact that it is a high beat and thus takes a bit more force or rotations to provide the extra force required of the high beat mainspring. A power reserve indicator on the back of these watches would be amazing! However, especially with this Seiko, that would probably add to the price considerably

    Hey there, have you used any of the Timex expedition or infantry MDC field watches? What do you think about em?

    • @TheTimelyFocus
      @TheTimelyFocus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a number of the Timex watches growing up! Now Timex is trying to move up market a little with mechanical movements, sapphire crystal, etc. on some models which is neat. I have not had any personal experience with these newer models but I do not think they are for me. Until Timex starts moving production out of China I am not interested. If they come back to the US, Japan, or Switzerland I would be interested but right now they are just not quite there. I will admit though that those Timex Expeditions looked cool when I had them back in elementary school and they have only gotten cooler.

    My favorite watch, I have the 4 versions (green, blue, black and cream), it is functional, gives date and day, it is easy to read by having the minutes marked, it comes from a legendary company founded in 1881, it is automatic, its movement It is inhouse… .what more could you ask for the price?

    • @lasatanoteca
      @lasatanoteca 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I can even tell you that the straps that everyone mentions as the weak point of these watches I like, they are rustic and have that touch of simplicity that I am looking for.
