This is a great video. The one thing I would like to know is what location does the locating slide pin (the one with the rubber sleeve) go in? Does it go in the bottom or top of the caliper? In you video it looks like the passenger side goes on the bottom, but what about the drivers side? Is it the opposite? Thanks!

Genuine thank you from Wisconsin. I've never done a brake job before, but knew it was within my skill set if I had a little bit of guidance. You helped me put some high quality brakes on to keep the family safe and saved us hundreds of dollars. Fantastic work!

This was excellent, very detailed. The only thing I would add is that to compress the caliper you can use a large C-clamp and one of the old brake pads if you don't have a specialized tool.

Tip in 2005 explorer 4.0 v6 xlt, the pads cannot be removed outwards after the caliper is removed. The metal bracket is too thick, and pads only come out inward once the mounting bracket is removed away from the rotor. To install the new pads, install them onto the retaining clips on the mounting bracket first from the inward side before installing the bracket--while carefully keeping the pads in place, then install the mounting bracket. Then, install the caliper. On my 05 explorer the pads will not install or remove if the bracket is already bolted. Its a slightly different shape than in this video, and vehicle is stock. Everything in this video helped me significantly, and it's very well done, but the mounting bracket on my 05 only allows the pads to be installed/removed on the inward side. Hope this helps. Thank you for the video!

I've enjoyed these videos on the explorer, they have helped me through front end work on mine but one thing has bugged me. The slots on the rotor you installed are reversed for the passenger side of the car according to installation guides on all slotted rotors I have installed. The slots should radiate outward in direction of travel to dissipate heat and dust away from the rotor. I think you are showing the drivers side rotor on the passenger side.

What about bleeding the system after taking the caliper off?

Why not pump them up in the driver’s compartment?
