    There was a bit earlier where we saw bracewell had plans to make planes able to fly in space. Blink and you miss it. I rather expect we have a deleted scene somewhere. I really like your take on the master! The reason you are seeing more Scottish characters is because the headwriter is Scottish!

    Mark Gatiss wrote this and loved the old sixties Dalek movies in which the critters were vividly coloured. This was a bit of a tribute to them as they were all we had back in the day with no repeats and missing episodes of the original show.

    The main thing I like about this episode is the exploration into the Doctor's psyche when trying to diffuse the bomb. He's so old that the only thing he feels anymore is pain and that defines his existence and what it means to be alive, suffering. The concept of life being a happy thing comes off as a foreign concept that he doesn't even consider when trying to get someone to feel like a human

    Daleks always made me laugh despite how lethal those little bastards are. I didn't start taking them seriously or see them portrayed more menacing until later on in the Moffat era, and that was one episode (not this one) and when they're a side thing the Doctor and the gang have to run from in a really creepy situation. I really appreciated them in the Chibnal era with the 13th Doctor because every Dalek episode and appearance was actually menacing, I now love the Daleks because of the specials they were the focus of.

    • @ReactandRamble
      @ReactandRamble  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They have some serious bars too, I mean the insults they gave the cybermen in the previous seasons?!
      Let me know when we get to that episode because I feel the same, that they are not menacing enough.
      I’m looking forward to more sinister daleks so I can’t wait to see that because while I like them they don’t frighten me.

    • @nedzed3663
      @nedzed3663 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ReactandRamble The one episode that made the Daleks menacing, somewhat during the Moffat era that was dedicated to them as the main antagonist happens with the next Doctor after Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi ( also my personal favorite Doctor) you'll know the episode when you see it. Other than that I can't think of anymore, but I did enjoy them in the Chibnall era specials they were in with the Jodie Whitaker Doctor. I think it's because their voices were also made more sinister sounding too.
      Despite really enjoying, loving the Moffat era, especially with the 12th Doctor, and his ability to make these older Who villains like the Cybermen, Daleks even Weeping Angels after a while, creepy from time to time, they sort of lose that menace when they are the main headliners or focus. They're used more effectively when they're the flucky for something worse or as a background threat to be avoided while dealing with the main antagonist.

    Probably the weakest episode of S5, but it's not bad.
    I agree with you on the colours of the Daleks - I was fine with them making them taller and more stocky so that they were more physically imposing though. They were all supposed to have a different role (Scientist, Strategist, Eternal, etc) and had swappable weapons, so I think it was a mistake that they designed them that way, then didn't utilise any of it in this episode.
    I think the whole thing with the testimony was that the Dalek's DNA had become so corrupted away from how they were originally supposed to be (pure) that the Progenitor wouldn't accept them, so they had to use verbal confirmation from the Dalek's greatest enemy to confirm to it that they were who they said they were.
    Looking forward to the next episode. It's a good'un!

      @ReactandRamble  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, I still found it an enjoyable episode.
      Ok, now that sounds really interesting! I wish they went a bit more into that idea.
      So it is because the timelords are the daleks greatest enemy, I wonder if another of the daleks enemies would do.
      I really enjoyed the next episode! Editing at the moment so hopefully should get it up this week😄

      @ReactandRamble I think that it's just The Doctor rather than any Time Lords in general. I might be wrong, but the Doctor has such a linked past with stopping the Daleks during the classic series (he was even there at the time they were created) that they consider him their greatest enemy.
      Looking forward to the next reaction!

    I absolutely love this episode. It’s so underrated and I’ve always had a soft spot for it.
    The Daleks are my favourite part of the episode as I love how much more scheming and cunning they are. That’s the more interesting side to them imo.
    The bright colours of the Paradigm Daleks are actually accurate to the Daleks history and culture as they use bright colours to distinguish their ranks or level of importance in the empire. Even the time war Daleks used bright colours for high ranking Daleks.
    The spitfire planes flying is explained by Bracewells brain we see blueprints of him thinking about the idea and he mentions “gravity bubbles for space travel”
    The Daleks are definitely the Doctors greatest enemy because although they are completely opposite in their ideologies, the two still have similarities such as their shared hatred. They have also caused far more devastation and destruction in the Doctors life. Xx

      Yeah, another person commented that it seemed like a scene with the spitfires is missing and I think so too.

    @joshuajoshua2732 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The Daleks were actually based on Nazis in this episode funnily enough in this episode the Daleks and the nazis are in the same war together.
    I agree with you on the "power ranger" Daleks which some fans jokingly call them the colour was probaly too colourish and too shiny for my liking however I wasn't a fan of the gold bronze Daleks either I prefer the classic series Daleks where there just white, silver or black however I did like the colour Daleks in the unofficial Dr. Who movies with Peter Cushing as the Doctor or Dr. Who as he's called in the film but that suited for the time period the film was made for the 1960's but this episode was 2010 but i think Moffat based those on that it was a nice experiment but it wasn't popular with the fans.
    The scene where The Dalek declares "I am Your Soldier!" is a callback to the Second Doctor's (Patrick Troughton) first story "The Power of the Daleks" where the Doctor and his companions are in a similar situation but instead of the past WWII they were on a colony planet in the future where the Daleks pretend to serve the humans and when the Doctor tries to convince the humans that the Daleks were evil they declared a similar line "I am Your Servant!" to fool the humans.
    I also like that this is the first time since the classic series the Daleks aren't flying which I have to admit I wasn't a massive fan of.
    Winston Churchill has met the Doctor previously in his different incarnations on the big finish audios although it's debatable if their considered as canon or not.

    • @ReactandRamble
      @ReactandRamble  หลายเดือนก่อน

      They do give a Nazi vibe!
      Yup, I definitely saw power rangers too. Oh really? I quite like the gold; the white, silver and black look good too. I looked up the dalek colours in the Doctor Who movie and I actually quite like the colours for that time period!
      That is so interesting. I appreciate writers and showrunners who do their research and find a way to utilise past storylines when it is a long running show, but with their own interpretation.
      Not a huge flying fan either. I'm going to believe it is cannon because they know each other so well. Thanks for the info and comment!💖

    I also didn't like the colourful Daleks and that's probably my main issue with it (you didn't, but I actually did find the white one fine, actually). It was still a fun episode, I guess. The crack is always around isn't it? Also, Amy not remembering the Daleks is interesting 👀
    Great reaction, I'm always happy to see how honest you are with everything. I remember that you weren't a big fan of the logo from the specials, despite it being a very iconic logo, since it played homage to the classic and now you didn't liked the Daleks and was very honest about it. Your reactions are very fun and sincere and I really appreciate you for it.

      @@ReactandRamble Rainbow Daleks are hard to swallow, I can't really blame you there lol.
      This season is very good at giving you a lot of questions to make you trying to guess what's gonna happen at the same time they keep the intrigue going! As someone who doesn't like 11 era as much as others, I certainly can admit that they had some great mysteries that were super interesting and very unpredictable!
      Agreed! Sometimes our opinions can go against the general consentment about something and that's absolutely ok! I loved to hear your thoughts about all of it and I especially admire your honesty.

    No-one liked "the power ranger" Paradigm Daleks. Don't worry they don't hang around for long & quietly vanish in this current form off screen without explanation once their story is over.
    Steven Moffat has said they were far too big & dwarfed Matt on camera. However he put sooo much work into the following 2 episodes (the first Matt & Karen filmed as well) that he wasn't on set for this episode & if he was he would have immediately seen how ridiculous the Daleks looked next to The Doctor.
    It's a regret Moffat has but sometimes you just have to keep moving as a showrunner & can't fix everything he argued

    • @ReactandRamble
      @ReactandRamble  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh thank god, I was worried that would stay their new form!
      I don't mind how big they are, my issue is just the colour but that makes sense that Moffat wasn't there to oversee it. It must be difficult to be a showrunner and trust others with your vision but it was a pretty minor thing so I don't think he should regret it. That's really interesting, thanks for the comment!😊

    Hi, Love your reactions! I agree with you - the chunky day-glo daleks just don't work - I always felt as if they were how a four year old would imagine the daleks - their appearance totally undercuts their threat and menace. The space spitfires were also very silly. A just ok story and probably one of the weakest modern era dalek adventures - and l'd agree with an earlier comment that this is probably the season's weakest story. The acting is fine but the script us quite weak and apart from Churchill and Bracewell the supporting characters are one-dimesional - there are a few emotional beats but they're not followed through. This story always felt rushed to me - as if there was quite a bit missing from it - perhaps it would have worked better as a two-parter.

      Hey! Thank you💖 yup, I am totally with you there. However, although the spitfires were silly, I found them fun too.
      Happy to know this is the weakest dalek episode and I can expect better in the future! I agree, I felt they were going to do more with the woman whose partner was killed, but they just didn't do anything with it. Yeah, I do think there is a lot of missing scenes as well.
