I think Moffat made the right call with this episode. They kept having the Daleks be destroyed or almost destroyed, then come back somehow, and after four or five times, it started to get silly. Actually having them win changed that.

I was so shocked when I heard one of our beloved biscuits referred to as a... cookie 🤢
A "cookie" is just an American/Canadian phrase for a "biscuit". The word "biscuit" literally refers to a very different kind of savory food in the States so, it feels unnatural to use it to describe a Jammie Dodger. I would never correct a British person for calling a "sweater" a "jumper" or calling a "french fry" a "chip" even though those words, also, mean very different things in America (in the States, a "jumper" is a type of dress and a "chip" is what a Brit would call a "crisp"). So, it's fine to specify that it's a Jammie Dodger but, unless he's actually going to Britain, give him a break for calling it a cookie. 'Cause when you're in America or Canada, that is the correct name for it. (I'm not certain about this but, I think I've heard that in Britain, they sometimes make a distinction between a cookie and a biscuit depending on their texture or something? But, in the US and Canada, all small flattish sweet baked goods are called cookies and what we call biscuits are not a dessert).
I really wish Moffat committed to his original plan with these Daleks. I know people didn't like the colours but there was clearly a concept in motion here and it's a shame it got scrapped.

What was the concept?
It wasn't actually the reaction that caused them to be scrapped. The real reason was because they were to bulky and heavy. They just weren't practical
late but here it is the dalek paradigm or the coloured ones each represent a division the white is the new form of supreme daleks so the guys just below the dalek leadership who can operate pretty autonomously and no daleks besides the emperor or ministers can really do anything concerning their actions and during the time of the paradigm daleks everyone above the supreme are dead so him and any others of his rank are in charge basically the rest represent a caste system
Blue' are the strategists and planners in control of all oversight work.
Red' are the drones or general dalek force so the most common.
Orange represent the Scientific and R&D basically inventing newer more efficient weaponry and also studying anything of note found on conquered worlds
Yellow' is a bit strange like the white dalek he has no other members of his level when the daleks repopulate he is unique all that is known is the white supreme and all following bodies of upper importance take it's input at high esteem one of the leading theories is this dalek is purposely kept out of sync with the rest of time and space so it has a non linear view of time and can in real life time influence the dalek's decision making if it see the future of the action leading to a negative result @@hmonsalve74

I love the new paradigm Daleks, I think it’s a nice reboot to the Daleks, it also is something The Daleks would do, they have their own unique focus, ie leader, strategist, scientist, it makes each one feel unique. Obviously they have to distinguish themselves somehow, and they can’t use names as only the Cult Of Skaro has those and they were created by the Emperor, so they colour code instead. It also sells a lot of toys.

I was so not into Matt Smith as the doctor at this point that I never actually watched this episode. But I gave episode 4 a go and fell in love with Number 11. He became my favourite doctor over his seasons.

I love how Stephen Moffat got us all going by making us say at the end of each episode "oMg ThE CrAcK"
Lots of people dont like the new coloured daleks but those same people tend to not know the colours are RANKS. White being in charge blue is the scientist and red is like in charge of the army. Its nice to know which daleks are more important what they do that they actually have structure to the daleks

Glad to see you like the paradigm daleks! I always thought they were really cool tbh. They're pretty intimidating in person as well (there where a few of them at the dw experience when I went a couple of years back), there's something about how big/bulky they are and their voices that is really quite creepy when they're right there looking down at you.

Those in the know know that the Dcotor helped create the Daleks. It was an episode back in the 70's. He was supposed to stop them from being made but actually was instrumental in their creation.
Ahhh, the first episode where Moffat tries to erase everything RTD did through a crack in time.

The funny thing about the "favourable reference" bit is it's a genuine Churchill quote.
When questioned about the alliance with renowned mass murderer Joseph Stalin, he stated that if Hitler invaded He'll, he would at least make a favourable reference to the Devil in the House of Commons.
In other words, it doesn't matter how bad our allies are because the alternative of a Nazi victory would always be worse, to the extent that even Satan was preferable.

Fun fact. The “hunchback" of the new Daleks was meant to store different weapons. The manipulator arm would swing on the grooves in the midriff and be replaced by different weapons. This would have been done in CGI but never happened.
The gun would probably do that too
The manipulator arm would be exchanged for a cutting tool or claw, and the gun to be exchanged for something a more powerful cannon or something else

I don’t hate this episode, it’s ok. I remember freaking out when I first saw the paradigm Daleks but bare in mind I was like 9, I love the first half of it and the last half I always forget because it just went tits up but there we go.

People complain a lot about this episode supposedly making the Daleks not-scary, but I think it made them scary in a different way, because this is the first time they win against him. They actually tricked him, instead of the other way around.

I think this episode is pretty decent but I hate the Skittles Daleks. Also it's not a new TARDIS just a different design.
Yeah, Darkest Hour was out about a year ago. Good movie, finally won Gary Oldman his long-deserved Best Actor Oscar. Also makes for a good potential double-feature with Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk.

FWIW, Moffat himself considers "The Best Below" the worst script he's written. So if it didn't connect with you, know at least that you're connecting with it on the official level.
He did mean "best" from a purely technical, craftsman point of view, not so much as it being the one he likes best.

Yeah I’m afraid the days of the Doctor getting angry and being scared of the Daleks in any impactful way are behind you now.
Shame really, because when the Doctor’s like that, it makes the Daleks scarier, the emotions and feelings of the characters and the way they react to stuff makes you fully appreciate the Daleks as a threat. But when you see Eleven here get only a bit angry, threatening them with a Jammie Dodger etc, the scare factor gets exterminated (pun intended) really.
