I’m a few days late to this party, but…. I’ve seen this episode a few times and it’s only now that I’m wondering whether its a coincidence that the name River’s prison is “Stormcage Containment Facility” and one of the Doctor’s nicknames is “The Oncoming Storm”.
Such a great two parter this, and it really shows off Matt Smith’s range as the Doctor. People are often conflicted about that last scene, with a lot of shade thrown Amy’s way, but I try not to take it too seriously. She’s just gone through a very traumatic experience, and was effectively saved by her childhood “imaginary friend’/hero, who’s also a rather handsome looking “young” man, so I take it she just lost control for a moment. Nice reaction. Steven Moffat has said in hindsight he kind of regretted having Amy try to push herself on the Doctor, and if he wrote it again today he'd do it differently. That being said, he wrote it the way he wrote it. I kind of understand with it (doesn't mean I agree with it). The Doctor is mysterious, and her life with him is teetering on danger. She's got all this adrenaline running through her body, and her mind is a bit all over the place so she's crushing really hard right now, maybe a little infatuated.
Yeah, it was slightly too much so I can see why he would want to redo it but its his show so he can do what he wants. Oh 100% I get her crushing on him, who wouldn't be?😂I just personally felt I needed more dialogue, something to build up to that point💖

I really love this 2 parter, it's crazy that this was these were the first episodes thar Matt Smith filmed, he so easily becomes the Doctor and I've seen many other reactors initially iffy on Matt Smith get won over by him in this episode, especially the scene where he tells Amy to trust him. At the time a lot of people didn't like the fact that we saw the angels moving, as in Blink they made a conscious effort to also have them not move when we viewed them and believed it made them less scary, however I never actually minded seeing them move and judging by your reaction it was still scary for you seeing them move. The ending with Amy trying to seduce the Doctor has been controversial with many fans not liking it happening like you express in your thoughts. I've read before that Steven Moffat who wrote it has said he regrets the ending and wouldn't have written it now if he was writing it for the first time. I didn't like it eiher but I came to terms with it by thinking Amy is just confused, her encounter with the Doctor as a little girl affected her deeply, not only did she bite psychologists who tried to tell her he wasn't real but Rory says in the eleventh hour that she used to make him (who'd become her fiancé) dress up as the Doctor while growing up. So I think she has a lot of unaddressed feelings towards the Doctor that she mistakes for sexual attraction. I like how the Doctor is just like "nope, we're not doing this" I get the impression that 10 would have rolled with it
Really, that's amazing! He is just so effortlessly the Doctor in these episodes, I enjoyed Matt's acting in that moment with Amy. I do think the angels were still terrifying and when I had the time to think about it more I still found them scary but it took away some of the mystery which is ok, so I'm for and against them moving. Aw, he shouldn't regret it, he tried something and some people didn't like it, myself included. I wasn't a fan of the writing, I think if the dialogue was different it could have worked out better. I agree with you there and it does allow me to understand Amy, its just how sudden and extreme it was that didn't gel right for me. Now I love 10 but yeah probably!😂💖
Love this episode(series 5 is my second favorite after series 9), but didn't like the Amy/Doctor scene at the end (althoguh I love every other scene from the episode). The angels are always scary!!
I agree with you, I never really liked that scene at the end with Amy and the Doctor. Also, yes, the weeping Angels are the scariest of the DW villains/monsters, including the Daleks and the Cybermen. River mentioned seeing the Doctor again when the Pandorica opens. That episode is among my favorites (actually, most of my favorite DW episodes are Matt Smith/ Steven Moffat episodes). I can’t wait to see your reaction to it.

I thought this was a great episode up until the point of the ending of the episode which ruined it for me. The ending was extremely controversial at the time as there were parents complaining and writing letters to the BBC that, Amy, even though I'm sure that wasn't the intention it looked like Amy was trying to sexually assault the Doctor and representing that in a children's/family show was a bad move. At the time Moffat written and put that scene in as a joke but he later regretted doing that and that it did go abit too far also the fact that even though the Doctor looks like a young man he's a centuries old alien and Amy is meant to be 19 or 20 and I just find it creepy than an old man being seduced by a young woman but yeah I'm not a fan of that scene but I'm one of those old school fans that are entirely against romance of any kind in Dr. Who including the Doctor himself as he was always classed as a-sexual.
ooft that is alot, I'm surprised and not about the complaints. I can see how it was close to the line especially for a family show. The old man thing didn't even register for me because I grew up with vampire shows, movies and books.😂 That's understandable and I really get that point of view, I have always been a huge fan of the Doctor and Rose romance though.💖
Thanks for the suggestion, I watched meanwhile in the Tardis and found it an interesting watch. It did smooth things over with regards to how there isn’t any awkwardness between them in the next episode and I really enjoyed the conversation they had😄

Amy forcing herself into the Doctor was not my favorite Doctor Who moment lol. It's hard to answer the Amy/Doctor issue this early and stay spoiler-free. Your first point is well-taken...They changed the aspect of the Angels from Blink and pushed the audience back behind the 4th wall...
When I was watching it at the time, I thought it was a pretty cool idea but now I’ve taken the time to think about it I do think it was better not seeing them move. Yeah, I just thought her doing that so aggressively came out of nowhere! I felt mortified when I edited it🤣 I’m glad you enjoyed the reaction!💖

At first I thought that was super scary, but I saw someone commenting about the viewer also kinda helping and I loved that even more, it's really cool and unique. Oh, it definitely came out of nowhere, but Moffat's plans at the time was making it a funny scene... It didn't age very well by today's standards, but it's always good to try to avoid anachronism if you're watching something kinda dated, so it's better to ignore and try to move on from that. I think even Moffat said that he regrets making that scene. I can imagine the torture of having to edit this episode LMAO. You're so cute lol. 🤠

And definitely thought it was the Doctor who River kills back when this aired, just the how I couldn't figure out (of course, I know who and how now so no spoilers, I'll wait til you get there to say anything). What did you think about the Angel's this episode, were they made more scary or demystified somewhat? For me, a little of both. They were made more malicious, it was a healthy balance ith these 2 episodes.

The current Doctor is from Dundee and we finally got a little brogue out of him last ep, but raggedy Matt will always be my favourite Doctor.
