the first thing that amazed me with Pedersen was his impeccable timing and the absolutely smooth articulation of those rich, imaginative, phrases with often incredible tempo. after I (at least partly) recovered from that, I've started to also appreciate his sound. sometimes it feels like he has a whole different instrument on his hands than other bassists. and he makes it look effortless.
Quel niveau d'aisance et de fluidité. Ça l'air tellement facile. Merci Oscar. Fier d'être un gars de Montréal comme toi. Tu nous a laissé tout un héritage.

Bach was first “Jazz” musician on the planet. Downbeat should honor him every year for what he brought to the thinking creative musicians who followed his mindset of the mechanics of creativity in any form of music !
I got so say Niels is a GREAT BASSIST!!! OK I'm, also a bass player but no where near this guys ability. He is one I am studying and I've been playing since 1967. You can never learn enough. There is always much to learn in playing. As with life.
Maybe I'm not well versed enough in Bach or perhaps the presentation of the musical quotes are not clear enough for me. Either way, could someone enlighten me as to what pieces are the basis for this wonderful performance?
If possible, listen to Bach fugues like Fugue in B minor, Fugue in G minor. Now You will get the idea of Oscars composition to resemble Bach in swing feel. Humbly I would say, yes there is co-incidence. Pure Genius. No other words
the second piece i feel like especially resembles the harmonic movement of bach and the counterpoint between the bass and piano at 4:08 is similar to bach. I am by no means an expert though
+Alan A Absolutely! Ask yourself if there is even ONE J.S. Bach composition that is not uplifting, creative and complete -whilst inviting even further variations? My favorite example being the Brandenburg Concertos -a whole word to explore.
Brian Kate Johnstone Every serious student in Western Classical Music has to study J.S. Bach, it is a must. His music has been studied by great composers that came after him like Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Wagner etc. He was the composer's composer. But unfortunately most people find his music more complex and harder to understand than Mozart's or Beethoven's but nevertheless the Western Classical Music profession consider him the grandest figure which until today remains unsurpassed. Imagine the possibilities if Bach were born today with all the synthesized sounds. Don't you just find his Fugues fascinating and enlightening?
WOW. Sound and Camera is doing a Great Job here, Three musicians from a different planet, must be awesome there! Outstanding………
Pedersen will always astound my ears and my heart. He can snap those bass lines like no other; I love it!!!
You are absolutely right

So Bach played the BLUES using a pentatonic scale which is central to jazz🙄 Africans created the BLUES hence jazz, just stop it🙄
@@lf1496 Pentatonic are Western scale. lol Africans did nothing
Another master piece of this genius!

the harmonic movement
None :)
But it's still fun to listen to
It's a tribute to Bach, but it's not necessarily based on any specific works by Bach.

Would love to know what the left side ride is, awesome sounding pie!
Martin Drew played Sabian...exclusively. As I recall his ride was a 22" HH mini bell Brilliant Sizzle.

It's only fitting Oscar Peterson pays tribute to Bach. After all if you're really serious about music, you should study or at least listen to Bach.

wow, 9 people 'didn't like' this upload. something bad must've happened in their lives.
I don't like it. The idea is good but the piece gets boring towards the end, frankly.
@@vivvpprof "Boring towards the end" suggests the 1st section of the piece was good. And good stuff deserves the commendation of a like-go for it!
