It's good to know that it's simple. What also can be taken away from this is that being able to boot USB opens the ability to install something other than Windows. Can secure boot be disabled? I'm leaning towards not using Win 10.

Create a Acronis Recovery USB Stick on your desktop PC, boot this on the GPD Win 2, and backup the M2 to a external USB hard drive. Most USB HDs are 500Gb to 1Tb, cheap, and plenty of space to create a backup. Replace the M2 with the newer one, boot the Acronis recovery stick, and install your backup to the new M2. I do this for family and friends who want a bigger desktop M2/SSD drive and want to keep their current Windows.
I wouldn't worry about the SSD getting hot. NAND loves being warm, it's only the controller that wants to be cool. Idk about that particular SSD model/brand but more than likely the controller will throttle to avoid damage if it starts getting too hot.
The Phawx, I have just ordered a GPD Win 2 and have bought a 512gb SSD from Transcend. The cloning software you mention, does it keep the partitions at the same size or scale them? ie would a 100mb partition on the 128gb remain as a 100mb partition or would it scale up to 500mb during the cloning? Hello!! I have a problem with GPD WIN 2 After removing the SSD, it does not turn on, the first time I could hardly start it, from 100 times. I changed the thermal paste. After turning on everything was fine, there were no jambs. Now I took off the SSD and put it back and it does not turn on again, I insert a peak-peak beep into the socket, a light bulb blinks
Just upgraded to Transcend 256GB 430S and it seems to get a lot hotter than the stock one, I had a fan on the outside (with cover on) and it still showed 68c as hottest temp, I wonder if I thin heatsink will fit in there?
make a recovery disk on a flash drive to save and put the files on the new flash drive so you don't need to install the operating system and drivers again. just ricavari usb
Just did this with my gpd. Everything worked up until actually booting it back up. After I copied the files and everything to the USB, (yes I even used double driver) put the new SSD in, held delete, and it was nothing like that showed. Screen didn't go to portrait mode, and the "chipset" option wasn't even there. I'm still having trouble with it.

Hello I gpd is a 2019 version white the 8100Y. 256 gb And i made a clone to my 512 gb ssd on the usb . After instal it i only can boot on efi shell . I change the ssd back to the original and the same . I install via usb windows 10 and the same problem any ideas to solfe this ? Best regards

It comes in the retail box. However, you don't usually need to add it again when reinstalling as Windows 10 activation records the details of the device it was first activated in. This however only works swiftly if you have it tied to a Microsoft User Account. If so, you just can just install, skip adding the key and then click activate once you have finished the reinstall. It will reactivate right away normally as it is the same device it was originally installed in. If you don't have it tied to a Microsoft User Account. Then you might be forced to input the key again.
I really, really hope that there was a technical reason to go with 2242 over msata. It just seems like a downright dumb decision to me otherwise given the availability of drives.
Then why did they force 2242 sata mode only with the b key? They make small msata to 2242 b key adapters. That would be the "future proof" design. Not sure if you’re planning on keeping the drive but I’ve been eyeing the transcend 512 drive. While more expensive, I’ve used transcend before and trust their storage. Maybe won’t run as hot also.

Yeah. This will work. Windows will install all drivers you need by default EXCEPT the touch screen drivers. If you are having problems finding them, just message me and I'll link you.

@@maxxyize you can adjust the undervolt to whatever you like. 50 is just a safe undervolt. If you are going to decrease that voltage make sure you do it in 5mv increments and test each time. The latest Intel drivers are not necessary as they aren't perfect just yet. Certain drivers are better for newer games, while certain ones are better for emulation.
1 TB SSD would be great to have on board of such portable handheld, but price would be unreal. My plan is to buy 512 GB SSD for heavy games, 128-256 GB microSD for less demanding and pre-2000 games & few 128 GB USB SanDisk Criuser Fit flash drives for emulation stuff. One at a time.

It does run hot. I've enabled Devsleep Idle TimeOut on the drive itself and that does make things a bit better but I still can't recommend it. full review soon.

When did he say he paid for it? I mean I don't know for sure in Phawx's case, but usually a company would give them the product in return for exposure to their audience, and Phawx being the biggest English speaking TH-camr in the GPD community, he was the natural choice. I don't doubt Phawx is buying and probably already preordered the Win 2, but he was given an early sample because of who he is in the community. If it was anyone else asking GPD for an early prototype they would more than likely be turned down.

More RAM wouldn't help at all, it's basically a memory leak in the game. The memory would fill just a couple of minutes later and you would still have the same problem as with 8 GB.
I also think it was memory leak, fps was steady 25 fps for long time until he started to drive across island so more data was streamed and ram usage increased.
Hmm so theoretically my gaming laptop could start chugging if I played long enough even with my 16gb of ram eh, guess I've never played the game in one sitting to notice.
I think it is that particular gpd win 2 configuratiom, maybe some problem with drivers or game code, hard to judge. I have not experienced such problem on normal laptop with gta v
Depends on TDP. But you can make it last up to 12 hours at 2 watts with light browsing, or you can put in high performance mode and maximum brightness and 12 watts TDP and get 2 hours

Keos is right. You can also use something like playnite.link which is the best front end for the GPD WIN 1. For the GPD WIN 2, you then could use something like Launch Box in Big Box mode which is like Steam Big Picture but for everything.
It should work in desktop mode. My laptop (i5-3210M, 4GB ram, HD 4000) can run it at 30fps but crashes sometimes because of low amount of ram but that wouldn't be a problem on the Win 2.

Unfortunately no. USB-C on the device isn't wired to 4x PCIe lanes.

the transcend gets extremely hot as well up to the point that the GPD Win 2 will shut down to avoid damaging hardware. Definitely NOT recommended!

At default settings, you should expect about 4 hours. If you lower TDP to 4.5 watt you can expect a bit over 5 hours.

Which GPD device do you have? Have you gone to GPD's website and downloaded the driver packs they provide? They also have full images to install.
