Thanks I got the answer
WOW!!! I tried this several times, without the transfer. This so helpful to see your steps, many thanks
So glad that it helped!
Nice explanation. I have that external ssd and it’s awesome. Very fast and stable. I just love it.
and you can move "Save to Files' up your export options list (Edit Actions), to reduce the scroll time
This is a helpful video with a warning. Do not use these Sandisk drives. You might be ok if you have an older version 1 drive, but the new version 2 drives have a high failure rate. There are plenty of TH-cam videos to back me up on this. I have experienced the pain of this personally. Luckily, I never back up to just one place.
You are absolutely correct on this! Redundancy when it comes to your Photos/footage is super important. I try to save my Videos and Photos in at least two places (iCloud & a storage device) that way if one fails I have a backup. I have experience the pain of losing important footage and it is a massive bummer.
@@spillthegoods Agreed. As a network engineer, redundancy is king!
Can you explain why it fails and an alternative external drive? I have this and would consider purchasing a more suitable product.
@@SamuelGarcia-rf4th I’m not sure why it fails but like I said, there are plenty of TH-cam videos about it. That’s how I found out. I have two Samsung T7’s 4GB drives and they have been solid so far
I have the 2tb version of this drive. It completely fails. I can’t even transfer a 30 mb video without the iphone 15 pro max crashing.
This was very helpful, thank you! I've been struggling with running out of space on my iCloud and also photos not immediately uploading to iCloud. And I needed to figure out the fastest way to get photos from my iphone and upload to TH-cam
I am so glad this was helpful!. It has also helped us keep photos and videos on our phone more organized and it has become far less overwhelming to create youtube videos. Good luck to you on TH-cam, go and change the world!
Brilliant 🤩 thank you for the demo and info 👍🏼👊🏼🏴🇬🇧
So glad it was helpful!
Brilliant! This is a clear and straightforward instruction, thanks 🙏
You explained it so well. Thank you.
You're very welcome!
This was perfect!!! I was just needing to know a method to transfer pix off my daughters iPhone to an external hard drive (SAMSUNG SSD T7) and your tutorial worked perfectly.
That makes me happy, so glad it worked out!
Thanks man, it's really helpful
Glad it helped!
Many thanks friend for good information
God bless you little dumpling i needed this , im slow lol
Thank you for your videos!
My pleasure! Love doing it.
Very helpful! Thanks!
Thanks for bringing up such an interesting way of outputting pictures. But can you designate a specific location on the hard drive to store the pictures?
Tip when using this drive are you must turn your phone or iPad off before disconnecting drive, if ssd drive doesn’t appear in files, you must hook it to a computer open file then shut file, then try with iPhone again should appear in files, these work with iPad iPhones but you have to follow these rules and it probably won’t hunt to wait a minute or two before starting to disconnect
What is the file system format you used to transfer from iPhone 15pro to your windows?
Is that ok to use exFAT?
Ok thanks for the reply. and instead to avoid draining the iPhone battery during a long transfer of many GB? Can I connect the cable that powers the iPhone and which also has a USB-C port at the same time?
that is very helpful, thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi. Not sure if you’ve already answered this one …. If the full resolution image or video is only in iCloud does the process download from iCloud first before copying to hard drive. Thanks
Thanks for this. Does this method work with older iPhones which has thunderbolt connection - say iPhone 11
EXCELLENT VIDEO
Thank YOU for sharing this video.
I am glad it was helpful! Thank you.
Can you get a Raw Photo file from your iPhone 15 or only a JPG to your SSD?
Do you know of a way to take photos stored on an external hard drive and then move them into photos on iphone 15? So far I've only been able to move them into "files". then open each photo one by one and have it save to photos. PITA Ultimately, I'd like the photos to end up in icloud and not icloud drive.. thanks... good vid!
Regarding sandisk drives, I was lead to believe it is the 'Pro' versions. The 4Tb extreme PRO. I use the 1 and 2 TB, so far without issue!!!
Thank you for the video, very helpful. Quick question, if you’ve only used Apple iCloud and your phone is set to optimize photos , how do you move your entire photo collection to download the high resolution photos vs those stored on the phone?
You can use an Apple Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader, using the same technique for your photos.
Thanks!
Happy to help! Hopefully it relieves some head aches.
Thank you. How do I move stuff from my laptop/iCloud Drive to an external drive?
Very Helpful Thanks!
YAAAY! So glad it helped!
Can you format the drive from the phone or do you need to do it on your Mac first? Or is it not even necessary?
Great vid bro
Thank you, much more to come
Hi would there be any reduce on quality by transferring? video or photo?
Well, damn! Years of struggle just solved for me with this! Thank you to the moon and back, Dumpling! lol!
Love it!
Those San Disk Extreme drives are Great in the 1T and 2T sizes. The 4T version has huge unreliability issues.
I have heard this. I have only used the 1T and 2T sizes. Have done so for a good while and have had no issues yet. Thanks for sharing this!
@spillthegoods when did you last purchase the Sandisk?
will it work vice versa? if I want to save photos from hard drive to iPhone. is that possible with this hard drive? thx
I will try it and if it really works I’ll thank you for ever and ever
So easy. Thanks
You are so welcome!
Thanks
I’m an IPhone user and a Windows PC user. Getting files from my IPhone to PC has been a 7 year journey of pain and if this method actually works I will be so hyped
As long as you have an iPhone 15 or later, you are going to pretty excited. It has made my life so much easier.
I understand. I'm in the same boat. I have found lately that I can use my cable and my PC sees the Gallery but that's it. From there I can transfer.
@MarkHardstaff-pj1fo 4k footage is what I frequently need to send over. This is particularly difficult because I work as a performer on Cruise Ships and internet is nonexistent. Apart from that it’s so infuriating that they took this long to give a solution to Apple and PC users. Apple went out of their way to make things as difficult as possible for file transfer and I’m just glad that’s over.
@MarkHardstaff-pj1fo it’s exponentially longer to use Google Drive as a middle man than to just do a direct transfer fyi I’m assuming you don’t send a lot of large files
Hi, thank you! I have an iPad Pro with USB-C. Will it be possible to transfer all Photos to this external Drive?
The answer is YES. Same exact process on the iPad as it is on the phone. Happy Creating to you!
I find a Sandisk USB-C 1TB SSD thumb drive instead (~$100). Much smaller, no cables but a little slower R/W speeds. I do large backups while I'm asleep so speed difference isn't an issue.
when you did this is the sound still in the video ??? what about in pro res i heard when you do this same process we lose the audio after the transfer??
Is there an option to select all at the photos app, instead of selecting one by one?
Sounds like a good workaround. Perhaps I’ll give this a try. Someone told me that there may be resolution issues. Does moving pictures & videos in this manner impact the quality of the files once it is transferred?
Great question. I work with mostly video and it has not impacted my resolution. i.e. if I shoot in 4k the files will move as a 4k file. Resolution on my videos have not been impacted.
Thanks for the video, very helpful. Perhaps a naive question, but wouldn’t it be easier with AirDrop?

I have a Iphone 14 Pro Max. Wanting to free up space for an upcoming trip to Kenya. Do the photos get transferred across and then go off the phone? As in - not just copied across?
Great question, with this process they are just copied across. You would then need to go into your device and delete from there. I will mention, as with any storage device it is important to have some redundancy. Meaning you don't want to have all your files saved in ONE location in case there is some kind of failure with your storage device. This can happen and that is a big bummer when you lose footage/photos that you wanted to keep.
You’d need a different lead for an iPhone 14 wouldn’t you?
I would iamgine the process is the same with an older iPhone or an Android. Just need the right cable, correct?
Thank you for your help.

Hi there, thx a lot for this vid. I do have a question though, I already have an external samsung ssd that I use to transfer large files between macs. My question is, will my iPhone have enough power to allow my ssd to work properly? Many thx for yr feedback and greetings from Milano!

Isn’t saving to files going to the files folder? Then do you have to movie it from files to the extreme drive?
Are the files copied to the sad exactly the same? Same size also?
Would this method work with an older iPhone with a lightening connector?
There is a work around, but it requires you to have an additional adapter so you can power the SSD and then it will show up in your files. I am making a video on this soon.
@@spillthegoodsplease recommend me what type of adaptor i can buy. I used same method using adaptor but the hard drive still on off if i transferring big data
What operating speed does it have? To have a higher speed is it better to use the adapter that powers the SSD?
it doesn’t matter what speed you bought. it’s being bottlenecked by the usb c anyways which is 1Gb/s. so just get 2230 nvme. only 2230 nvme can be powered solely by iphone. any large form factor won’t be successful
This works great with the original SanDisk SSD, the one with the 4 sided carabineer hole. However, it doesn't work with the new , higher speed model (with the triangular carabineer hole). I suspect that the newer model requires more USB power than the original, and that the iPhone can't provide the the needed power. Regardless, great tip for the video crowd.

This will resolve the issues for power:

Do you need to format first ?
Does work with the sandisk 4 Tera
Does this transfer include dates and location data of the photo?
Excellent.
Thank you! Cheers!
my external HDD is seagate and it does not have a type-C port or cable. do yuo have any solutions for that?
So what steps did you side step? Phone to computer for phone to ssd to computer?
Dude!! I work in the bush and have constantly had a downloading issue with sat internet causing me to buy iPhones with large storage to down load audiobooks, podcasts, & movies. Is it possible to use scan disk the other way around? To free up phone, give me more options, and not forced to buy the more expensive phones?😊
If you get an SD card reader and a SD card that will plug into your phone, you can do the same thing with it with much less cost. Like a mini hard drive. Use the files app the same way. Mine will take up to a 256gb card. I fill several cards with movies and use the VLC app to play them.
Good video advice. Will this procedure also capture hidden photos/videos? Thanks
But i have USB Type A to Type C cable in that case what is the alternative i can use to transfer directly?
I don't use live photos with my Iphone 15 and want to transfer photos in .jpg format. Is that possible with SSD drive?
Yes, that has been the great part about this SSD. As long as you have an iPhone 15 you can connect this SSD and move photos onto it in .jpg format. It has made move photos and videos from my iPhone onto a hard drive much easier! Hope that helps.
Is there a way to select “all photos” to back up?
I am still using an iPhone 13Pro. When I plug in the same type of SSD that you show in this video (using an adapter from USB-C to Lightning) -- the SSD does not show up in the "Files" locations list. I questioned if the SSD was functioning properly, but I was able to plug it into my MacBook and it showed just fine. Do I need to do something else to get this to show up on my phone?
NVM. I think I figured it out. Since it going through a lightning port -- I need to provide external power. So I am going to try using a lightning to USB 3 camera adapter -- then I think it will work.
Yes, you will need an adapter if you are using an older iPhone with a lighting cable. I actually have a video coming out on this soon. I will link here when done
Hello, I just saw your video and me and my dad want to know that if we move the picture from photo album to external hard drive, Will the pictures be gone from the phone and only on the hard drive?
Great question! It just copies the photos and videos over so they will remain on your phone as well as the External Drive.
I have like 50k of photos and videos on an old iPhone X. Is there a way to select all photos and videos at once, without individually selecting to transfer over every photo and video onto my hard drive?
Hello ! I have Seagate HDD and iPhone 13. Can I connect Seagate HDD with iPhone 13? As people around me says its risky to connect HDD with your phones. So I never used it directly. Please tell me what to do.
This may answer your question!

@@spillthegoods thank you ✨
Can you just copy rather move the photo to the hard drive? Thank u.
By saving on to the SSD can you delete the video and photos from your phone without losing the pictures?
Little bit of a longer answer here. Whenever I am moving Photos/videos I like to make sure I have redundancy in the places that those photos or videos are held. For me I have them in iCloud plus the SSD. Another option is to have 2 hard drives that you save to. I only say this because it can be agonizing to lose all your photos/videos if you have a storage device fail.
Hi ! I connected my SanDisk ssd to my iPhone 13 Pro via the usb c - lightning cable however it does not detect. Any reasons or should I use an adapter instead?

Good; my phone's a plain "15" too .. I can do that (& more i think. I havva Hyper++ USB media hub that has lotsa connectivity/functionality🤔)
HOW WHERE YOU ABLE TO SHOW YOUR IPHONE EXAMPLE ON RIGHT BOTTOM CORNER AT 2MIN 4 SECONDS INTO THIS VIDEO ? SO COOL PLEASE LET ME KNOW
How do you do the opposite? (From the hard drive to IPhone)
Does this also work with lightning to usb A, as my phone doesn’t have usb C?
I tried using the apple lightning to USB A adapter on iphone SE 2020 with a normal memory stick but it says it consumes too much power. Possibly if you have a USB cable with 2 plugs, to a hard drive, so you can plug one in a charger/battery bank.
Nice video, do you have to format the hard drive?
How to transfer back to the iphone ? Thx
Ciao, ho un iphone 15 plus, dopo aver trasferito files su memoria esterna, posso rimetterne uno su iphone
I tried a SanDisk flash drive but when copied to pc, videos were choppy when played back, photos were in HEIC not JPG format. Is the same true with the SSD drive? I consulted with San Disk support re: flash drive but just apologized, no suggestions as to trying a different product.
Great question, when I move photos/videos from my iPhone to the SanDisk SSD they move over in a ".mov" format but after editing and and exporting I export into an ".mp4"
Whenever I am using an editing software on my computer and I move the videos into my timeline they tend to be choppy until the video fully renders and then it will be smooth while I am editing.
Do you use an iPhone or Android? This SSD will ONLY work with iPhone 15 or later because it has a USB-C port.
Hope that is somewhat helpful!
@@spillthegoods Yes, I just got an Iphone 15. Software 17.3. It runs very hot and I can only touch sides when shooting video. Even in the case is too hot to touch back of it so not happy with it. Hoping upgrade to 17.4 or future upgrades will fix that. When I save to files the videos are also in .mov format. So your videos are choppy after transferring to SSD. That's good to know they are editing and rendering well. I've been downloading from Icloud to Windows and they are not choppy but need backup when traveling. Do you ever transfer photos to SSD drive? When I use save to file with photos, they are in HEIC format and I have to save a copy using Windows photo before editing which changes it to JPG but then I lose metadata which is important to me. Let me know. Used your link to SSD drive and put it on Amazon shopping list.
Can you please recommend me some photos&videos editing ideas for androids that wouldn't ask me for payments?
What if you want to export 19k photos and videos 😢apple was not a good help 😣i have a mac and i told them why cant i just copy and paste all of them to the drive but they said some will be small size and quality will be bad so idk which way would be best to transfer my photos and then they said i have to change the format of the drive and then i asked them can i access these photos in any computer they said no only mac
Are you sure this moves RAW files and full resolution videos?
What’s the difference between the SanDisk and the one that is more expensive SanDisk calls the Pro?
If it is the SanDisk Pro I am thinking of the only difference really is storage size. The pro has 4T of storage vs. this SanDisk which has 1T or 2T.
What about if you have a iPhone with lightening connection? Even if use a USB to lightening cable the files app does not pickup the external drive
This should answer your question!

One note on this, Iphone 15 pro and pro max with the A17 chip has usb 3 speed while iphone 15 and 15 plus with A16 chip only have usb 2 speed.
I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max. Can I use this storage device? Thank you for your informative content
Great question. In short the answer to your question is, No, you cannot transfer from your iPhone 12 Pro Max directly onto a hard drive using the same process I showed in this video. Because the new iPhone (15 and later) is a USB-C port you can connect an external hard drive and see it in files. Any iPhone older than 15 uses has a lighting port. However, I am exploring a different method for USB-C to lighting cable and will be sharing my findings in an upcoming video. I will link that here when complete. Thanks for the question, sorry the answer is likely not what you wanted!
an Sd card reader for lightning port worked for me before i got a 15, hope this helps

@@EVH305 no just look up lightning to sd card reader (i got one that also had an aux a usb A and lightning port so i could charge at the same time but thats not needed) and get an sd card with alot of GB
Question- does this only work if your computer is a Mac or can you use this from an iPhone to a windows computer? Someone please let me know, this would be a huge timesaver
I don't have a mac either. All of my editing is done on a Windows computer and it works! Hopefully that is a relief. Remember you will want to have an iPhone 15 or later since it has a USB-c port. Otherwise you will need an adapter for older iPhones.
@@spillthegoods ok thanks. I have an iPhone 14 so I’ll need the adapter. I use Western Digital back up drives, hopefully this method will work with that for me to back up directly to that as well as my ASUS computer.

Why don’t you use AirDrop ?
@@nextsegment78Can Airdrop select groups of pictures or videos or is the Airdrop using just one file at the time to transfer?
