Dragon quest 11 is a masterpiece of casual games i wish they added more rpg mechanics like fishing housing to attractions in their casinos to give more reasons to come back with these being optional end game content people could easily miss or something as a gamer who has way to much time to game rpgs like this are for when i tired myself out on fortnite and my mental energy wants something more lax
Currently playing it right now on the Switch and it bring so MUCH nostalgia, which is weird because it's my first Dragon Quest game. It takes me back to a simpler time when games weren't SO convoluted as many games are nowadays. It's fantastic
It’s why I have been a fan of DQ series from the start instead of FF series. It’s why other series that’s more grindy such Legend of Heroes series, starting with Trails of Cold Steel arc in my case, as well as a bit of Phantasy Star series appeal to me as well.
It truly is a modern version of a 1980’s JRPG, with an attempt at perfecting all the things that made that era of JRPGs so great. It’s a modern game that somehow feels foundational to the genre.
Also, mindless grinding with an old-school turn based RPG is a relaxing way to unwind after a hard day's work! Another thing I love about these games is that they're entirely based on statistics and math probability.
Ya. Some people just don't understand that. It's a voluntary action for relaxing and getting more powerful. Breaking HP/attack limits or getting new items shouldn't be easy.
Dragon Quest Games always feel like coming home. Some things may have changed, but it's the same as you remember the last time you've been there. Music, sound effects, gameplay, enemy designs. Not new and not bad. ❤
I appreciate this game for what it is. I’m surprised I found it as cozy as I did back in 2018/2019, and while there are some things to annoy me about it, I’m glad it exists. It really does feel like a love letter to old school turn based rpgs while still being accessible.
Ya, it has such good replay value. Most DQ games have that. It's the same feeling as playing the older Pokemon games. Something hits different for Turn-base. Thanks for commenting! :D
DQ11 was my first time playing the series after hearing about DQ for years. When I learned Toriyama did the art design, I knew I had to give it a go. Ended up spending 200+ hours and platinuming it. Then, I went on to play my favorite game of all time, DQ8. Words cannot express how perfect these two games are to me. Perfect, not in the sense that any one thing is perfect, but the feeling of perfection, of exploring, of gearing up, of getting to know and eventually care for your party members, of searching for that next Puff-Puff. I just cannot express how much I love these games. Ever since I finished 11, I've been constantly searching for that feeling of perfection again. But I know nothing will ever match it. Really looking forward to DQ12.
I am an on and off gamer. But when the pandemic hit, this game got me through 2020. I loved the game, and I will always be grateful for helping me during that challenging time. All time favorite game.
I know exactly what you mean when you say it's nostalgic, because for me, early in my gaming days when I must've been around 9 I played Dragon Warrior on the NES and not only was it my first ever RPG, but also was my favourite game at the time. Still would replay it now, too. And I'm telling you, the best part about DQ11 is everything that stayed the same. It feels like the original just got a MASSIVE upgrade, like getting more characters in your party! That alone made makes the adventure all the more better than the original where it was only Hero. Still on my first play of it now, (getting back my lost party memebers) and I've loved every second of it. Except the gambling, that can burn for all I care😅
Fuck there's nothing quite like starting up a dragon quest game and hearing that same familiar fanfare. It's just as good every time since the first time I experienced it in 2006
well said. its very true. a lot of times after a long day of work, sometimesI want to sit down with something that doesn't require a lot of brain power. I miss jrpgs! They seems to be making a comeback thankfully.
I loved DQXI so much! It was my first real DQ experience (I played a bit of IX of the DS, but didn't care for it for some reason) and it felt so good and comfortable having big budget turn based RPG on home console again. There are some great turn based RPGs that come out over the recent years (Bravely Default, Octopath Travelers, Sea of Stars...), but most of them have very low ambition when it comes to visual presentation, I love that DQXI game the genre the respect it deserves in a way by making it a real AAA game or maybe a AA+ game at least.
for someone who has finished all the Xenoblades and currently finishing Person 4 Golden i would like to know what RPG you peeps would recommend to play next. i LOVE story rpgs, if the characters arent worth remembering then its not worth shit. ive been reading alot about DQ11 and it seems it might be the next rpg to rock. other ones i have had an eye on are Tales of Vesperia, Bravely Default II. im just trying to waste some time till Eiyuden finally comes to us. lemme know what ya think =)
Those titles you mentioned are all good. However, DQ11's story isn't really complicated. This is a simple traditional rpg like past DQ games with good graphics, so it's not for everyone. If you like turn-base, DQ franchise is in my Top 5, so I would recommend.
Dragon Quest is one of the most consistent franchise I've seen. Whether if it's the mainline games, spinoffs or crossovers, there are so many good DQ games. It doesn't changed the gameplay nor tone that many RPG'S does and keeps it as simple & formulaic as they can. While at the same time, evolves them into modernized hardware, added an few features that doesn't dramatically change the formula and has some complex & challenges. It keeps on doing what it does and that's not an bad thing. There isn't any DQ games that were bad nor that awful. With maybe an couple of an exception; like DQ6 or DQ7 for me. But even those aren't exactly what I call bad games. But there are still many good ones that the team knows how to make these games. It's also why I loved Metroid & Kirby so much. I don't mind changes. But I don't want them to use the charm or style that makes the series so good. Hopefully the franchise continues to keep that trait and leaves it as to what makes them special.
I'm 45, and to me it's the Dragon Warrior franchise.... and to this day Dragon Warrior is in my top 5 all time games, along with DQ11. I don't really play turn based RPG's very often, but when I do this is my gold standard. I love this franchise. I'm currently playing them all in order starting with IV on the NES, currently I'm 1/3 of the way through VI on the SNES.
Dragon Quest and the spinoffs are my comfort games. DQ treasures, monsters, builders 2, DQ XI… just the chillest most enjoyable games that only help lower my stress levels after a long day. Sure sometimes I love some great real time combat challenges but most days life is hard enough and I just want something comfy u can sink into like a cozy old blanket.
Dragonquest XI S is my first Dragonquest game ever and OH MY GOD HAS IT BEEN A BLAST SO FAR. I remember downloading the demo on my computer and was first off suprised by how long the demo was in general and was contemplating if steam actually just gave me the whole game lol. Then I got the game via ps plus a while back but never played it and it sat on my ps4 along with persona 5. I then went and played persona 5 after I played through my first rpg world ever (that I can recall) final fantasy 7 and fell in love with RPGs and their long stories and giant open worlds. That’s all I l want in games as I find those enjoyable rather than the gameplay loop of things like COD and battle royales and DQ XI S delivered that while also taking me back to the feelings I had while playing ff7 for the first time (and why I’ve replayed ff7 multiple times lol). I also see a lot of similarities between bothe stories and more and honestly I’m here for it. All in all, this game is quickly becoming one of the games in my top 10 games with how enjoyable it is. Another thing I enjoyed was the feeling I got when I got to the world tree. I thought I was almost done with the game only for mordugan and jasper to sneak attack us all and separate the entire party forcing me to find them all again and then proceed to find another way to defeat him now that he has the world tree’s power. It’s like playing an anime/ interactive movie and I’m excited to see how it all ends
Ya, it's a pretty fantastic game. The dragonball like artstyle and turn-base rpg is the part that always gets me. When it comes to the story, it's not as good as FF7, but it's still real good.
I'm currently playing this part of the game for the first time. I've played through some of the characters solo stories and now I'm back on the luminary himself. I gotta say, this portion of the game is not to my liking. It took out so much momentum and it's annoying to me. I just wanna get the squad back and keep on playing the game in the same way the first 20 hours played out. I hope they'll get back together soon enough. It just feels like I've lost so much progress. The game also doesn't warn you that this whole thing might happen. I had some quests still open, and some places to explore. Now, I don't know if I'll be able to do them all afterward.
Dragon Quest V is peak in story though, and my favorite overall. I'm still getting through the series myself (finished the first through to the eighth game), and I'm near the endgame of DQIX. Still looking forward to getting through DQXI!
I’ve just recently started playing the game all over again and man, I forgot how *amazing* it is! Plus the fact it’s addicting for me because I just love the character designs and the graphics and I just wanna keep going through the story! It’s my new obsession 😅
Subbed. You hit all the right spots with this review and I'm going to play the demo next to see if it gels. I got a feel it's just what I've been looking for! Thanks 😊🙏🏻
I've been waiting for DQ12 since I played XI a few months before the pandemic. XI was such a masterpiece. I played it after Xenoblade DE and these 2 games made me realize how good jrpgs are! I've been playing a ton of them since 😂 Which DQ do you guys recommend? I've got 8 in my backlog
I just picked up this game and I'm really enjoying it. I love everything about it. Especially the music. At the end of the day when I'm in bed and the brain is playing music in my head this is what I hear now and it's so easy and pleasant I just fall right asleep.
I haven't played all the DQ games, but I love love love this game! The graphics, characters, story, they are so good. The story and characters got me hooked and I found myself wanting to experience as much of this game as possible! I don't normally try to 100% a game, but this one is so worth the time.
My favorite game as a kid was final fantasy 9 and my favorite show was DBZ so renting dragon quest 8 from blockbuster with the only knowledge of it being an RPG taking it home and playing it was mind-blowing
Dq8 and 11 are my two favorite. Played them both a few times and they have so many similarities in story and characters. 11 has much more to do post game, more character outfits, weapons, etc. I need to quit replaying 8 and 11, there has to be other games out there
@@HamZero im definitely going to check out dq3 remake when it comes out. Dq2 and 3 are the only ones I never played. The problem is im kinda spoiled on newer RPGs now, 3d, no random encounters, the game holding your hand telling you where to go. its hard to go back to older games but i did like final fantasy 1 remaster so we shall see
I picked it back up again recently, playing it on the Switch and first played it on the PS4. It is legit one of my favorite RPGs ever. It's just so much fun to play and immerse yourself in this world.
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. That statement is as true now as it was when it was first spoken. Franchises like Mega Ten and DQ prove that point: That the Turn-based formula, which is tried and true, still has a place in the modern gaming landscape. Not everything has to be sweaty button mashers.
@@HamZero Now, there is always room for innovation without sacrificing your core mechanic and I’m not against developers trying something new but they gotta know when they’ve strayed too far from what made them successful or otherwise it’ll come back to bite them.
I been playing this for the last few weeks since I finally got my hands on the definitive edition (40% off on Steam wintersale) and it's as much fun as it was back in 2018. Perhaps I enjoy this even more since this really is the best version and they got rid of Crossbow Kid sidequesting.
By the way, you probably know this, but the Nintendo version contains a bit more in depth on each character's story. Thanks for sharing this. I love Dragon Quest!
I actually never beat the game but I still enjoyed it. I got stuck on a hard end game boss in that floating castle dungeon. The game is really long, so its turn-based battles can become a little bit dull. Still a good game, however, and I'm excited to see what DQ12 holds.
I'm so glad XI was so good. 6 and 7 burnt me out, while 8 and 9 were.... Different. III and V will always be my favorites, but I'm glad XI was so well done and clearly had a lot of love poured into it
Ya that's always good to know there are devs out there who still like that battle system. So far, I think Indie Devs are mostly focused on it now a days.
Definitely give them an shot. DQ11 is an fantastic starting point to those who never played the franchise or an RPG in general. It's simple and easy to understand. Yet still challenging and engaging that you'll never see coming.
I'm an old fart, been playing Dragon Quest since it was Dragon Warrior on my old NES. DQ XI is the best game in the franchise ever in my opinion. It has all the old mechanics you know and love, while also giving some innovation and variety. And with the definitive edition, the nostalgia factor is off the charts. I can't wait for XII and I'm stoked that this franchise is finally gaining some love and respect outside of Japan.
It might be my favorite game of all time, to be honest. It's a 90s snes/ps rpg but with exactly the right things modernized and exactly the right things kept from that era. My only complaints are that the soudtrack is not great, especially that repetitive dungeon theme. The first hour or so of the game is kinda weak and doesn't really pull you in either, but if you can get past that its fantastic. Looking forward to DQ12.
I think it's a wonder that DQ is still DQ, considering how SquarePenix has been butchering FF since 12, on top of their business decisions and pandering to the west. There are too many DQ spinoffs but at least that's what are, spinoffs, so it's ok for fans who like building stuff or playing Dynasty Warriors with DQ characters
Since 12 ? More like since 6. 6 was the last great ff rpg with the exception of 12 which was a good game. They need to go back to what was good, but they won't. They want whatever will make them the most money. I've given up on final fallacy
@@GTSN38this is why ff is so split every fan likes a different thing and complains about the other. Ff 1 and 2 didnt age as well. I didnt like 8 and 7 was ok(actually i dont like 8) i do love 9.10 was good but too linear and yet had the most endgame ever i love hate it. 11 was cool 12 was good just a little weird mmoish single player. 13 was meh i kinda hate how 7 and 13 are more acifi than fantasy. 14 was great (well became great)but like 11 is a different breed. 15 was the worst for me grenade are not magic you cant change my mind. 16 was a spectacle i enjoyed it but it lack the world(also i wish elemets had relevance) 4 through 6 were great. But all ff fans are different and opiniotated heck theyd rather complain about a fan liking an entry they dont like
The thing about FF series is that up til FF7, the games from 1 to 6 were medieval fantasy with light sci fi elements in them. But starting with FF7, it’s the other way around, sci fi with very little medieval elements. And they kept changing the battle system in just about every entry since FF7. DQ on the other hand remained what it always was, stuck to the core battle system while improving it slightly, and that’s why DQ is so endearing. Get the feeling if FF keeps reinventing the wheel too much, it *would* lose fans by massive amounts. FF is trying too hard to be modern in the game world settings, battle system, art style, and more. Instead of following trends, FF *should’ve* followed what DQ is doing, stick to the original design and make slight improvements. Oh, and leave the sci fi with medieval elements to Phantasy Star series.
I bought a Switch Oled in 2023 because I wanted to play the Fire Emblem games, I wanted to buy this game but I was waiting for a good price, this game hasn't lost it's value - I finally found a good price and I am ordering this game I own five of the games for my DS/3DS. I know this will take grinding, but I can't wait!
This game is so worth it like every other DQ game. I use to have all the DQ games for the ds/3ds 10 years ago. I sold them all like an idiot lol. I wish I still had them.
That would be so good. I remember buying the 9th one for the DS. Was shocked on how good the story was. Thankfully we can play it with emulators that can optimize graphics.
I just restarted this game a few days ago after I found out switching from 3-D to 2-D then back to 3-D basically acts as a New Game Plus and I gotta admit, I enjoy the story. Having difficulty and struggle and complex storylines are great but sometimes, you just want a fun romp where you can just enjoy yourself and the world and gameplay.
I know, right? That's one of the reasons why I prefer Dragon Quest over most RPG'S. The story/plot & characters keeps it simple, yet still intrigued into it, but exploring the world's and how gameplay is also helps cause it keeps you playing.
Well I first played the series when DQ8 arrived on Christmas Eve 2006.. Maybe for that reason hearing the theme always reminds me of the holidays.. Eeks it’s so close between DQ 8 & XI.. But oddly while I’m a fan I still have a long way to go as the series is huge
I've being gaming since 89' or so and never was a JRPG fan. Im a huuuuge RPG fan in general but I always found JRPG to be childish. I don't like anime and such. BUT, this year I felt like I played everything that was on the shelves and that there was nothing interesting left out there for me. I decided to give those JRPG a try and WoW ! I started right away with chrono trigger and FFVI, loved it ! and then Trails in the sky FC, amazing. Now im 2 hours into DQXI and im loving it so far! I still find JRPG to be childish but it's fine by me ! it has awaken the inner little boy I was when I started gaming. I just can't stop smiling playing those games. They are so much heart warming and relaxing. What are the next JRPG I should play ? Should I continue the Trails in the Sky franchise ? There are so many JRPGs out there it's stunning ! I feel like im starting a whole new episode of my gaming life !
I was born in 89 and started gaming when I was 6 years old. I can get why you think they're childish. Some of them are. However, there are ones that have deep stories and good gameplay. Trails series and DQ is such a good start. Based on what you're telling me, I think you're into Turn-base RPGs, so I think you should play FF7 original and FF9 and really focus on the story. Thanks for commenting! :D
Even better now. Can confirm that Unreal Engine VR mod works flawlessly with it on my old codger 1080ti with no drops on the highest settings. VR resolution set at 2.5k per eye. Looks and is fking so much better in VR man so do yourself a favour and get urself a headset mate. Unreal engine VR mod is free too 🤙
Dragon Quest XI is one of my favourites in the series. Only behind 5 and 3. Maybe par with 4 or above it! I hope they have more thoughtfully placed enemies in the next, better animation and less corridor like maps. On the Final Fantasy comparison I strongly disagree however. The company has 2 rather similar products. It makes total sense to take 2 strategies. On top of this those who miss final fantasy of old can play Octopath Traveller if Dragon Quest doesn't fit the bill. And all that said Dragon Quest X is a mainline game without the same combat.
Ya, it has a great replay value. I find myself thinking about playing it a few times a year. In regards to the FF comparison, I was referring to some of Square's older Turn-Base games. The older DQ and FF had similar elements lol.
Your dragonquest origins story is the same as mine. Only I'm a tad older than you. I started watching dbz in high school, and I also liked final fantasy. So I started literally with the exact same game and then went to the ds games. Good times.
@@HamZero it does look fantastic judging from the sneak peeks or demo previews I've seen so far on TH-cam, so yeah I will definitely not refuse to play it of course if I come across it. But DQ12 is the one I'm unequivocally going to buy and am most anticipating 👍
Nothing against FF7R's battle system but having a true turn based option would have been quite cool. And no, classic mode isn't turn based. For my old eyes, sometimes the action was so busy that you see everything, but yet see nothing at the same time.
Nice review but I really hate the struggle to lvel up in DQ, we all end just farming metal slimes. Is the same issue I have with Souls games but I have beaten all of them my fav is Sekiro no grinding require but the point I am trying to make is....just Pump up the exp points each enemy gives dammit, that way people can farm whatever enemy is not difficult to understand. Metal slime can still give the hightest amount of exp but since the bastards can run away and are difficult to kill until you get guarantee crits or just luck they are still special but not mandatory. Another thing I am aware and I did like about DQ XI is when you play with draconian options ON you farm for loot instead of EXP and they can make a huge difference in your strategy and setup and that's great. Leveling up is mostly because of the Skill points needed for climb up the skill trees/boards. I know there are farming seed spots but those aren't reliable until midway thorught the game right up to post game, I like that DQ XI at least have Options.
I think you hit the nail on head with grinding in DQ. What they need to do is make the grinding inclusive with all monsters. They could do it where certain equipped weapons can add more exp points for fighting specific monsters. Like if I had a holy sword, fighting a dark enemy, can increase exp points by a certain amount. Fire sword > plant monsters. Minor elemental weaknesses, but produce more exp because of it. Metal slimes are the exception lol. Thanks for commenting!
About a month ago i started playing Dragon quest 11. I would’n be able to tell you why i like it so much but it holds something magical. I even bought 1, 2 & 3 remakes with recent deals. However the game had some issue’s imo. Some stories where kinda lame and it was a 40 hour story stretched to 60 wich was frustrating sometimes. Some things where so predictable. But still i really like it and got me into the jrpg-genre.
I totally agree with you about the duration of DQ11. They could've condensed it, but dragon quest is known for doing this. If you're into the whole turn-base JRPG, I would recommend you play Ni No Kuni - Wrath of the White Witch or The Legend of Heroes - Trails of Cold Steel.
Have you ever played Blue Dragon? If not, I recommend it. Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Blue Dragon are all favorites of mine! Elden Ring is great too.
The DS versions are definitely not for everyone. I liked Blue Dragon Plus because of the tactical aspect. I don't know if it aged well. It's been over a decade.
I love this game, but I have a major gripe with DQ as a whole. I'm super tired of hearing the same music in every game. If it were just a theme song for the title screen or credits, it would be one thing. But DQ using the same songs over and over in every game, even in the spin off games. I don't get hyped by the music in tense situations or anything, as it's the same music I've been hearing for decades now. Come on Square, make some new fricken music. DQ11 is an amazing game though. I love the story and the new mechanics in this game. And I still love turn based systems! Jade and Eric are two of my favorite DQ characters of all time!
I think in some aspects, the music should be changed, but they should still have the same use of instruments. I really like the whole orchestrated touches they put in DQ games.
@@HamZero I agree! I love the instruments they use for the modern games. But some new music scores could help make each game more unique, and could help emotional story beats hit home better.
This game and Trials of Mana made me have faith in traditional jrpgs again. Although I love mote Nier Replicant/Automata approach, the work done in DQ11 was amazing. My only criticize is to some osts and the localization, but it's just a minor details. A lesson about how to make a classic styled game. DQ11 is just making better games, while FF is losing its touch.
I tried to play it i got bored and never finished it. One thing i remember, is that the soundtrack sucked so bad that it started to annoy me and i had turn off the music.
This game is not for everyone. Disclaimer about me: I played DQ8 and now playing this gem and I love this and most traditional JRPG. Now I will talk about what new comers should expect. This is not like FF games where graphics are good and like recent FF games more into action. Its a bit cartoonish and very colourful. English sound acting is a bit like RE2 original. Its not stylish like Persona games and as over the top as Persona. This game is a love letter to the golden age of JRPG. Why not? It is one of those that started it all back in the 80's. Many JRPG elements were created in this game that are now normalized in all JRPG games. This game is about grand adventure, discovery, comradery and many things that makes a successful JRPG. Be warned that it is a slow game and you should take your time playing it. Be patient as the game will pay off.
Square ? You mean Enix ! Square makes ff, Enix is the beast behind the best RPG ever. I know they merged, but I would never give square any recognition beyond ff.
I loved dq11, but playing it made me miss dq8... there was a certain difficulty about it that was so addictive, you really had to manage your mana and items from town to town. Making every new town feel like a real accomplishment. Dq11 definitely didnt have that feeling. If anyone know a game that gives this feeling please please let me know.
@@HamZero Ya i got pretty far in that game years ago, but i always dislike pet battlers like pokemon and DQ monsters games. I always prefered characters being upgraded and expanded upon. I did hear ni no kuni 2 have characters instead on monsters, but I never really heard anything about that game after it came out. Was it not good?
@@HamZero Yup, I beat tales of legendia and Vesperia, then i dabbled in grace f, berseria, and zestia. I actually just bought both xillia last week because I got if for a good deal. And I own Arise because I got that at a pawn shop for 10 dollars lol. My next JRPG after I'm done FF7 rebirth is most like Xenoblade chronicles. Never played it.
@zedrico8577 I never played xenoblade chronicles, but I heard they're really good. I still have to play Arise. I beat Rebirth two weeks ago and I'll be releasing a review of FF7 rebirth soon.
Dragon quest 11 is a masterpiece! It’s my favorite dragon quest game I think. It might be tied for the number 1 spot with another dq, but it still belongs in number one regardless. And I’ve played them all (except I never got around to playing #4) seriously 11 is really great, it’s done so well, I believe it’s actually perfect.
I am 38 yo, also a big final fantasy fan (just went through ff7 and ff8 again in 2023/24). I played Zelda totk last year and I am now playing the DQ11 demo on Switch. The childish feeling of this game is killing me man. They are baby sitting me for 3 hours right now and it feels so easy. Optional quests are also like "can you find my cat??". For now I can't find a reason to really buy this game, it's like 70€ in my country right now, don't know. I don't think it's bad but not like very good also, I mean it's beautiful and feels like AAA but I expected way more since it has crazy ratings everywhere. Am I wrong or something?
DQ is definitely not for everyone. Final Fantasy stories are way more complicated. I think DQ games are great because of their simplicity - Story and gameplay. I always liked the exploration part of the games - Going into areas and finding items and grinding.
@@HamZero thanks for answering I just got the notification. I just finished the demo yesterday, it was like 8 hours. At the end I would like give this demo a 7/10. The fact is that i expected like to be blown away by how awesome this game should be but not really unfortunately. It felt like watching a movie. I destroyed every enemy that i encountered in like 20 seconds for 8 hours straight. The story is not bad but not like so involving that i had a reason to push other 50 like hours. In the end it s probably a matter of tastes. I probably would have liked this game when I was little but now as more mature and waaaay less free time i don t feel like staying 60 hours on this. Edit- also it doesn t help that it costs a kidney and half
I tried playing Dragon Quest 8 on the PS2 emulator but I keep getting missing textures for mountains and stuff so I just grabbed the 2DS and I'm going to play it on that sucks because I want to play it on the PS2 because I don't want to stay at a small screen
With DQ it's always a hit or miss for new players. If you like turn-base and abit of difficulty that's good. The story is simple and nothing to really rave about. I find the game to be more relaxing.
The only thing bad i can say about dqxi is that after i put over 120hrs in beating all quests and everything there was nothing else to do. Man...this model of jrpg was perfection to a T. I hate the nonsence they turned final fantasy into. Its no different than all the other games on ps4/5 just to appeal to a wider audience and have 20 buyable dlcs. Dqxi didnt have dlc crap beyond a few typical items. You get what you got n youre good. Thats why it did so well n this other crap they rush out is failing so hard. Turn based is what made square and enix. For them to turn their backs on those enjoyers is a terrible terrible decision.
To be honest, I love Turn-Based RPGs, my first one was Final Fantasy 4 where you had 5 party members. Sadly there are few games where you have 5 party members, even Final Fantasy scaled down to 4 party members in FF5 and 6. Even worse to 3 in FF7 and onward. The main fun is to have a big party and give orders, not mash buttons! One thing I dislike Final Fantasy 7 Remake for is that you can't really control all 3 characters and I not like the "switch" mechanic.
@@HamZero The game that got me into them, Final Fantasy 4 had 5 party members. And that one is among the coolest gameplay I remember. It is sad that the newer games mostly only have 3 party members. But yeah, I prefer turn-based. Usually if you control more then one character in an action game, it isn't as good to play.
@HamZero I guess I should've been more specific. Is the original release (not the definition/ S version) still locked? I asked because the original release ran at a higher resolution while the definitive edition only goes to 1080p
To be honest, I only ever played the Original version and it did go up 60fps on PC with up to 4k resolution (if needed). I also had the PS4 version and it was at 1080p capped at 30fps. I don't know much about the S version. I would assume, it's 60fps on PS4 pro, PS5 and PC. I was told not to play it on the switch lol. @@79Dtrain
Another thing I don't like is how they make these games too easy they always dumb them down once they get over from Japan so I really hope we get some hard modes one thing I don't see too many RPGs is making just the bosses level up with you and making them stay hard throughout the whole game because specially when you try to do endgame content like in Final Fantasy 7 the Ultima weapons and then you go and fight the final boss it's like three hits and you're done and that shouldn't be
Rest In Peace Akira Toriyama. You made all this possible and your work will always be remembered! 😢
Dragon quest 11 is a masterpiece of casual games i wish they added more rpg mechanics like fishing housing to attractions in their casinos to give more reasons to come back with these being optional end game content people could easily miss or something

Ya I know right!
It’s why I have been a fan of DQ series from the start instead of FF series. It’s why other series that’s more grindy such Legend of Heroes series, starting with Trails of Cold Steel arc in my case, as well as a bit of Phantasy Star series appeal to me as well.
You my lad get me i felt the same
I just started playing this week and it's giving me the same feeling. It's crazy.
I just started last week as well 😂 @@incognitoescondido207
DQ should NEVER change. I love the formula.
Agreed!
It truly is a modern version of a 1980’s JRPG, with an attempt at perfecting all the things that made that era of JRPGs so great. It’s a modern game that somehow feels foundational to the genre.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
And here I thought I was the only one with that mindset 😅
Dragon Quest Games always feel like coming home. Some things may have changed, but it's the same as you remember the last time you've been there. Music, sound effects, gameplay, enemy designs. Not new and not bad. ❤
Couldn't agree more
I appreciate this game for what it is.
It's not really a love letter, it's just a Dragon Quest game. They have remained old school and have never changed for anyone or anybody.
I feel the same way. I can't wait for 12 as well. Hopefully they won't mess too much with the turn-base.
I am an on and off gamer. But when the pandemic hit, this game got me through 2020. I loved the game, and I will always be grateful for helping me during that challenging time. All time favorite game.
Same. I bought this game and Elden Ring during the pandemic. They provided a good escape from reality.
Couldn't agree more.
Ya. I recently finished Mario RPG remake. It was really good.
RIP AKIRA TORIYAMA
I loved DQXI so much! It was my first real DQ experience (I played a bit of IX of the DS, but didn't care for it for some reason) and it felt so good and comfortable having big budget turn based RPG on home console again. There are some great turn based RPGs that come out over the recent years (Bravely Default, Octopath Travelers, Sea of Stars...), but most of them have very low ambition when it comes to visual presentation, I love that DQXI game the genre the respect it deserves in a way by making it a real AAA game or maybe a AA+ game at least.
Agreed!
I would say it's AAAA game. Nobody makes good RPGs anymore. There's always something I don't like with newer RPGs.
I love that game I replayed the game last week and I didnt regret it I can play this 10 times and I dont get bored I love this game
for someone who has finished all the Xenoblades and currently finishing Person 4 Golden i would like to know what RPG you peeps would recommend to play next. i LOVE story rpgs, if the characters arent worth remembering then its not worth shit. ive been reading alot about DQ11 and it seems it might be the next rpg to rock. other ones i have had an eye on are Tales of Vesperia, Bravely Default II. im just trying to waste some time till Eiyuden finally comes to us. lemme know what ya think =)
Those titles you mentioned are all good. However, DQ11's story isn't really complicated. This is a simple traditional rpg like past DQ games with good graphics, so it's not for everyone. If you like turn-base, DQ franchise is in my Top 5, so I would recommend.
Played through it least 4 plus times its just fun. I cant say ive played through many rpg that much usually to be honest. I just like it
Ya it's pretty awesome. It feels nostalgic in some ways.
My favorite games saga, and clearly that one is one of my top two. And at this point, they share the top place of the podium.
Ya it's great to know that many people still like these types of games. Hopefully more will come out!
I know right! I have the same feeling with the metroid series.
@@HamZeroSame here. It's also why I love Kirby & Mario as well.
Same. With PS5 graphics and 60fps, it's going be interesting! Thanks for commenting! :D

It's the perfect series for relaxing. I hear you. It's easy to fall asleep to it because of the orchestral music. Thanks for commenting!

Ya that game was pretty awesome. The times when games weren't so easily spoiled. Good times.
Dq8 and 11 are my two favorite. Played them both a few times and they have so many similarities in story and characters. 11 has much more to do post game, more character outfits, weapons, etc. I need to quit replaying 8 and 11, there has to be other games out there
Same here. The new DQ Remakes are coming out soon. I'm not sure if you're into pixelated games, but it's looking good.

I'm having the same problem. I'm playing Elden Ring right now. No hand holding and Shadow of the Erdtree is just brutal.
I picked it back up again recently, playing it on the Switch and first played it on the PS4. It is legit one of my favorite RPGs ever. It's just so much fun to play and immerse yourself in this world.
I'm so glad that people are vibing with this game. DQ3 remake was announced and that's going to be another masterpiece.

Absolutely. Games like octopath, DQ and other turn-base will always have a place in the market.

No problem. I heard that you can find the same story content in the definitive edition. I think that's available on pc, playstation and switch.
I actually never beat the game but I still enjoyed it. I got stuck on a hard end game boss in that floating castle dungeon. The game is really long, so its turn-based battles can become a little bit dull. Still a good game, however, and I'm excited to see what DQ12 holds.
Ya I have a feel DQ12 is going to just as good as 11. Whatever they did in that game has to be replicated.
I'm so glad XI was so good.
6 and 7 burnt me out, while 8 and 9 were.... Different.
III and V will always be my favorites, but I'm glad XI was so well done and clearly had a lot of love poured into it
Absolutely!
Wait. What's so different about 8?
I admire the father of Dragon Quest who never gave up on turn based combat, unfortunately I never got into the Dragon Quest games.
Give it a try, you might like it!
DQ 11 and 8 are both very accessible and fun.
Works of art in my opinion.
I know right! Thanks for commenting!
Well the enix corporation are the founders of DQ, so maybe the enix side of the company won't give in to change lol.
But all ff fans are different and opiniotated heck theyd rather complain about a fan liking an entry they dont like
I'm abit of both. I'm more than half way in FF rebirth, and I'm loving it.

And will always be! Hope XII won't be much different!
Ya I know. It's not dragon quest without Turn-base and Akira Toriyama Art. No changes are needed!
This game is perfect, no flaws😉👍
Yup!
I know what you mean. DQ is perfect for that.
I know, right? That's one of the reasons why I prefer Dragon Quest over most RPG'S. The story/plot & characters keeps it simple, yet still intrigued into it, but exploring the world's and how gameplay is also helps cause it keeps you playing.
Whats your favourite DQ game?
Make sure to like and SUB for more RPG content. 🎉
Dragon Quests 2,3,4,5,6,7,8, and 11. For the spinoffs its Builders and the Heroes series.
Dragonquest builders 2
Id probably say 5
No clear favourite.
Curious where you sourced your claims about "western developers" thinking that DQs battle system is too "old school" or "slow"?

DQ11 was the classic style RPG I never thought we would see again
So perfect
Exactly. We need more of this! DQ3 remake is coming out soon and it looks awesome!
RIP Toriyama
What about the graphics downgrade in the definitive edition? Did they patch it eventually?
I don't think so. Playing it on the switch is already a big problem. I played the PS4 version on my PS5 and it looks just fine.
I've had this game since it came out.
5 years later and I'm still not done beating it lol.
But I been playing a lot the past 3 days
Your dragonquest origins story is the same as mine. Only I'm a tad older than you. I started watching dbz in high school, and I also liked final fantasy. So I started literally with the exact same game and then went to the ds games. Good times.
All I have to say is I can't wait until DQ12 comes out baby!!
It's going to be epic. Are you planning to play the new DQ3 remake?
@@HamZero it does look fantastic judging from the sneak peeks or demo previews I've seen so far on TH-cam, so yeah I will definitely not refuse to play it of course if I come across it. But DQ12 is the one I'm unequivocally going to buy and am most anticipating 👍
Nothing against FF7R's battle system but having a true turn based option would have been quite cool. And no, classic mode isn't turn based. For my old eyes, sometimes the action was so busy that you see everything, but yet see nothing at the same time.
I so agree with you. It's a nice hybrid, but doesn't serve the original justice. FF7R is still good and hopefully Rebirth will be even better.
WISH EVERY JRPG WAS LIKE THIS DONT BREAK IT
I know right.
Dragon Quest XI is my favorite Dragon Quest game.
Oh man, you're bringing me back to the Xbox 360 days and the DS. Blue Dragon was so massively underrated. Hidden Gems.
Did you played the DS Blue Dragon? I was always curious about that one.
The DS versions are definitely not for everyone. I liked Blue Dragon Plus because of the tactical aspect. I don't know if it aged well. It's been over a decade.
Dragon Quest 11 + Dragon Quest 8
Are my 2 favorite games of all time.
Absolutely.
The real Deal of Dragon Quest 11 was the Postgame. I never see this before and it blow my Mind
This game is not for everyone.
Disclaimer about me:
I played DQ8 and now playing this gem and I love this and most traditional JRPG.
When I say square these days, it's implied that Enix is part of it. Enix is the gem alright!
I wish there was an option to actually have random battles and not see the monsters on the field but hey that's just me
Ah yes, the old rpg style. I don't know if that will ever be a thing in modern triple A games.
I think you should try Ni No Kuni - Wrath of the White Witch. It has that studio Ghibli art and awesome gameplay. Hope this helps!
I've never played the second one yet. I'm waiting until it goes on sale lol. Have you tried the tales series??
I know right. It's been a couple of years now, and I still think about playing it again.
@@HamZero yeah me too, I’ll have to wait a litttttle bit more though, I want to not remember it as much as possible
DQ 11 is outstanding!
But in my opinion, DQ 8 is the perfect masterpiece.
I think DQ 8's story is better. 11 is just optimized on the gameplay side. Both are darn good!
I’m playing heaps of XI on both my PS4 and PC.
That's pretty awesome. I only have the PS4 version. What do you think of the new DQ3 Remake?
For me, playing it on the PS2 was better than on the 3ds. It looked cleaner and I think both games have minor differences.
4:07 how to get hoodie on costume?
I have not played it because I heard it was too easy, and I like my RPG games to be challenging. Does anyone know if this is true?
With DQ it's always a hit or miss for new players. If you like turn-base and abit of difficulty that's good. The story is simple and nothing to really rave about. I find the game to be more relaxing.
BG3 or DQXI depending on my mood :)
Good Choices!
Thanks for sharing; just finished streaming the Sniflheim segment of the game on my channel; planning to beat the game this go around 🔥🌧🌈
Would be nice if we could say no and have our choice respected
same here thumps up from sweden
I hear you and you're so on point. I think what they need to do is have true turn-base options in final fantasy games.
There needs to be a Pokémon game like dq11
I would buy that!
Ya, RPGs sure have changed alot. I prefer turn-base as well to be honest.
Is this still locked at 30fps?
For the PS4 pro, PC and PS5, it will run 60fps. Switch, and regular PS4 will be 30fps.
@@79Dtrain
This is the only genre worth playing. So I don't play games anymore because there are non that I haven't played.
Another thing I don't like is how they make these games too easy they always dumb them down once they get over from Japan so I really hope we get some hard modes one thing I don't see too many RPGs is making just the bosses level up with you and making them stay hard throughout the whole game because specially when you try to do endgame content like in Final Fantasy 7 the Ultima weapons and then you go and fight the final boss it's like three hits and you're done and that shouldn't be
I see your point. You should consider playing Elden Ring
