Hm disagree with ff7 remake thing. Intermission wouldn’t be good if it was on base game, bc it was on ps5; the combat was a lot better, like they made so many improvements, and we got that beautiful cutscene. Rebirth looks so big, don’t think it would’ve work if it were all in one game, especially how clunky ff7 combat can be. They said they aren’t planing dlc for rebirth, but hope they change their mind. But they’re all original , and that’s what really matters.
So I actually agree with you about it being experimental. Just play Final Fantasy 1 through Final Fantasy 10 and 10-2. Final Fantasy 12 is ok but not what I would call a traditional Final Fantasy, more of a spin off of Final Fantasy Tactics. Then you have the awesome Mana series and the SaGa series. Then there is the Chrono series. Really you have a lot to play if you are done with Final Fantasy but still want more Square RPGs.
Have you ever heard of Vagrant Story? It was an action role playing game developed and published by Square, I got passed the minotaur and then gave up, I never finished the game. I've never liked action role playing games and I never will.
The story of the game is actually really good. The gameplay however is not something I would play these days. It has turn-base tactical elements to it, but I think it had problems with pacing during battles. It felt like a chore playing it lol.
I preferred it when they didn't have voice acting. Gameplay and story were big of course, but for me I preferred the voices I heard in my head when I read the text bubbles to some of the voice acting that is done when I talk to npcs or characters in games.
I like voice acting only when its good lol. Remake did have good ones, so I can't complain. I wonder if they'll be time when we can switch to read mode in RPGs.
@@HamZero Agreed. One can hope that we get that option for when the voice acting is suspect at best. It can really pull me out of my suspension of disbelief at times.
Interesting video, but the issue with FFXV definitely wasn't DLCs... The game was awful, the gameplay mechanics poor, the characters boring. FFVII and FFX are masterpieces, FFXIII was ok in the end, but after this one, unfortunately, there hasn't been a single FF worth the name (maybe FFXIV is, I admit I haven't played it and everyone seems to agree it's great). It may be sad, but the Final Fantasy franchise is dead. I won't be sad it's in the past, I'll be happy I was fortunate enough to know it back then :)
There were definitely problems with FF15. I was implying the introduction of DLCs to the final fantasy franchise starting from FF15 made them worse. FF13 had problems and FF15 kind of fixed them but added new issues like the glitches of Sword teleportation. It was a good game, but it's not a game I would replay. I play one of the Older titles once a year. They have great replay value. Thanks for commenting! :D

You havn't played the most recent game, but titled your video *Remember When Final Fantasy was Really Good?* Which implies directly it is not any longer "really good". Are you starting to see the issue? Unsure if intentional, but it comes off as sensational drama chasing BS and some of the confirmation seeking comments corroborate that.)
Great video mate, this pretty much encapsulates exactly how I feel too. It's all felt downhill since FFX, sadly, with regards to FF at least. Good that Octopath and others exist, but it's just not the same as having a great FF story full to the brim with an amazing party and story for them to experience.
Agreed, if 13 had better characters I think things would have been different. The combat wasn’t there best but still unique and fresh. It would have had more appreciation if the story was better. Also 13 was the start of the cash grab model too with multiple releases in the works so I think that was the real turning point. At least 12 still has a fan base for the combat.
Square enix disrespects their own traditional final fantasies and their fans by continuously, not only thinking but saying out loud, that the gameplay and story wasn’t good enough. Trying to please everyone and aiming for something impossible. Saying they need to please younger crowds and saying they will PARISH if they don’t change. 😩 Look at zelda and mario. They are not afraid to quite literally repeat the same formulas over and over again and it’s working just fine for them. I’m not saying that these other final fantasies can’t be made or they aren’t good. I’m just saying that they need to be their own thing. Especially 16. It’s literally an entirely different genre. Why doesn’t square just say what they really think? They don’t like final fantasy and they don’t want their traditional fans. We aren’t good enough for them and they don’t want to make final fantasy. They want to take the money and make a different game. That’s fine but maybe stop lying and sticking the final fantasy title on it.
I think what they should have is a separate department specifically for developing Turn-base Triple A Final Fantasy Games. They make mobile turn-base games, and other pixel games like Octopath traveler which is cool. Dragon quest fulfilled that aspect and it did really well on their 11th title. I don't see why Final fantasy can't have the same output. Thanks for commenting! :D
Fully agree. They use to be the front runners in trying to innovate turn based RPG games but it’s like they just gave up and gave in to copying every action RPG out there.
@@optimysticquest their identity was the most innovative turn based RPG company in the market. They switched there brand to action RPG but many companies already do that well. Now no one is making new creative turn based RPG. Only retro games and remakes 😓
Asking anything not to modernize itself is a foolish errand, I’m sorry but that’s just the harsh truth. This notion that FF has always been one thing gameplay wise is just factually incorrect, even among classic FF. 1, doesn’t play the same as 2 or 3 , 4 is different from 5 and 6; 7, 8, 9 and 10 are different from each other still, 11 is the first online 12 is nothing like the 13 trilogy (which are all unique despite being directly related to each other. 14 is arguably the biggest MMO RPG in the world, 15 is different from that and 16 is different from that. The backlash against 16 has really confused me. Now, we’re suddenly going to start putting the FF franchise in a box and say if it doesn’t have X, Y, Z it’s not Final Fantasy? Even when games choose to repeat similar gameplay mechanics they were never exactly the same so I absolutely disagree that now all the sudden square has done something too un FF like. When has this series ever stuck too long with one formula. It’s always changing to various degrees. For the record I think 16 is the best game in the series since 9, it’s not perfect, I wish the one and done side quests had more substance (the multi part quests were really good though) and I would have liked a bit more RPG elements in the game, but the story, world and characters were all pretty compelling. Like I said I haven’t felt that from the series since 9. This whole argument has been bugging me for a while now, just because a FF doesn’t play the way you think a FF should play doesn’t mean it’s not a FF game. I mean FF10 is among my least favorite games in the series as the years have gone by but it is still a final fantasy game lol
Loved FFIV to FFX dont really care much for 1-3 or 12 - 15. Havent played 16 yet but tried the demo and was not very impressed felt like a lot of flash and tbh it had great spectacle but it did not give me what I wanted from an action game it just felt to light in that department technically sound but uninspired like it had been phoned in by someone who knew what they were doing but didnt really have any passion for the project. The story may be good but I did not think much of the story in FFXIV and this gave me heavy vibes of that game in that aspect and since I have not liked a FF games story since X I did not want to gamble on that front especially with the hugely inflated price tag they are putting on them now. 7 remake I liked the combat but the story changes were atrocious. Pacing wise it is a real slog and its narrative structure is so loose as to be almost absent. They seem to be in no hurry to move mundane events along but cannot wait to spoil former important story beats such as Sephiroth being alive and Cloud not making Soldier without even setting the groundwork to give them meaning. Then there is the problem of no real threat, Shinra in the original still posed a threat en masse and it took the entire party to fight Reno and while they banged him up good they still couldnt stop him blowing the pillar here Cloud can solo him and the party can fight them both to almost a standstill. Weird ghost things that mix with events as well as oil and water no problem they are nothing. As for Sephiroth he is also toasted by the party without any journey needed either inwardly or outwardly. There are also other very weird scenes they added such as the gassing scene in Corneos mansion why add that? its not like they were put in a maze and it kinda raises issues with what would likely happen if someone such as that did have you unconscious and at his mercy. Way I look at them now is big dumb summer blockbusters. High production quality but little actual substance. Definitely far from all bad but a sad cry from what it once was a bit like Star Wars. Havent got round to Octopath Traveller yet but at least there are still games like Dragon Quest XI and Nier Automata to name two of the bigger ones that have good stories from Square although The Xenoblade Chronicles series is the closest to reminding me of the spirit of the old FF games now.
Ya I tried 16s demo. It was decent, but I had issues playing with the action RPG mechanics. I finished playing Elden ring and got right into the Demo. It was abit of a downgrade. lool. Thanks for commenting! :D
It really does feel like a betrayal to the brand. They use to be the front runners on innovating turn based RPGs. But now they copy paste action RPGs and the only new turn based RPGs we get are remakes or heavily inspired by “x” game but ultimately not as good as the games that created the inspiration.
Ya it's kind of frustrating. Square releases good stuff but the FF franchise itself has lost its edge and some people may say, I'm old and this is progress that I'm not use to. All I'm saying it may be good in some aspects, but we can tell when games are made with love and care. Look at the Mario RPG remake. They made minor tweaks and the game did soo well on the first day. It quadrupled its sales compared to the newer paper Mario games.
@@HamZero I’m probably old and a little biased because ff7 was the first game I owned but I’m sad that no company is innovating turned based RPGs now. I understand the appeal of action RPGs but the RPG market is completely saturated with them now.

Agreed!
@@HamZero FF13>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>FF15 and it's not even close. 15 is by far the absolute worst in the series and is a disgrace to the franchise
Couldn't have said it better myself, great video!
Thanks!
Fastest don't rec channel I've ever hit lol miss me with that sensational headline bs. Idk what you are even b'n about but 14 and 16 were two of my favorite games.
(post edit response: I'm not giving your video more comments.
Not sure what you're even about? FF14 is awesome and I haven't played 16, so I didn't say anything about it.
Final Fantasy's identity isn't based on tradition; it's based on seeking new challenges and trying new things. Sakaguchi has said this for decades.
Agreed.
Games are dull due to the budget and player base becoming older.
I guess having an opinion is a problem 😂😂
