Did they not have clipless pedals in 1996?

For sprint events they were using toeclips and dble straps.

Hoy en día se usan pedales con clip y correas tipo strap, usando solo pedales con clip también han fallado.

And this explains why the speeds in the outside TT's increased from 2020-2023 as they switched to internal cabling and massive aero shaped bikes. I believe they are doing this as an excuse for not having the speeds due to less doping.

@@joebob4943 The UCI has always been trying to protect their bread and butter which is advertisers and tv rights. Internal cabling and aero bikes do make a massive difference in speeds, some of the older 1980’s TT bikes were literally just road bikes with different handle bars installed. New training “Methods” which are basically sanctioned doping are being encouraged by the UCI and they should of been banned more than 10 years ago, hyperbaric chamber training for example to increase the the hematocrit levels without actually training at high altitude outside is what the top pro cyclists are using. Chris Froome was a heavy user of this training including all the other Team Sky cyclists, not to mention the Tradamol usage scandal. There is no pro level cyclist that is actually out there competing on a level playing field, this is the sport of pro cycling as it has been and will continue to be, you can not remove the “chemical” assistance from this sport completely. Are pro level cyclists doping in 2023? Yes, new training and less detectable enhancement drugs. This is why the UCI allowed new aero bike designs, integrated cables, disc brakes as these new cyclists can not compete with the full EPO rage of the past not at the levels they are using. When was the last time you saw a big man on a bike attack a pure climber up a mountain after a 5 hour bike race, that was in your face doping. UCI surely does not want that saga again so they would rather add aero bikes in order to get a speed advantage over the EPO days, which still hold faster times than even in 2023 and that was on 2000$ bikes back then, now you know why they need full aero frames, disc brakes, integrated cables, electronic shifting, all Carbon parts, computers, power meters all just to keep the speeds up. There is ZERO doubts about the EPO and blood bags days and the results speak for themselves faster times than even on a $14,000 road bike, let's not forget some TT's back then had faster times than even on 2023 TT bikes costing more than $18,000.
