      Luke Saleem I wouldn’t say that, I believe he truly valued Maul as an apprentice, taking him as a child and even going as far as to deceive Plagueis in order to secretly train Maul as a Sith Lord. Also, not sure if canon, but in a comic he explains to Vader that it was a loss when Maul “died”

      You have to remember Naboo was the planet Palpatine was from, and as it was where the incident took place it wouldn't raise many eyebrows for a political leader to seem surprised an assassin had survived on his home planet. (Plus Anakin is talking as a "soldier" in this point in time, no time to ponder things like this)

    Darth sidious was impressed with darth mauls survival, and perhaps thought his apprentices were far more powerful than he thought, which explains why he saved Vader despite his body being Complety burnt and limbless, maybe he hoped Vader could heal his injuries and body somehow, very much like Darth maul ' survived his injuries ' after naboo.

      I agree . Maul was the first Sith to survive death . By all accounts he should be dead .the man was cut in half) His force strength must of been off the charts , possibly equal to Anikins. Even now at half his Force power ( because lost half his body ) He is still a threat . oh and his Master could not see Mauls future.Or feel his presence through the Force

    In TPM Sidious valued or in a twisted way even 'loved' Maul so much he had great plans with him. But after Maul's supposed death on Naboo, Sidious had to move on with Dooku.
    Even Sidious didn't intended or wished it to happen that way, Maul became a obstacle in his grand plan by forming his criminal empire.
    Then Maul felt betrayed by the very evil who once was so proud in molded the little zabrak into a loyal, determinated and strong warrior after investing so many years in him.
    I thinks its rather sad. In TPM Maul thought he could rule by Sidious' side and becoming so much more and Sidious had his favourite apprentice for a much longer period, before casting him aside for Anakin.

      @RaoulDuke789 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sidious's plans will still go on as planed, even with Maul alive to spill the beans. Although, they won't go by smoothly. Sidious is this close and doesn't want to be slowed down by investigations. He owns the courts and the senate. The Jedi can do nothing because in the end, there would be no proof. The average politician doesn't care much for the Jedi's knowledge of Sith lords. It comes off as a belief system to them. While the Jedi them self's are not looking to good anyway, due to propaganda. Maul would just be an annoying insect getting in the way of Sidious achiving his goals.

      dragon slayer god. Well if Maul spilled the beans about Sidious's plan. Sidious would just go through with Order 66 if he felt that there was no other way out. Sure it would not go as smoothly as the Jedi would know whats going on but having the Clones turn on the Jedi in the middle of the War would cause chaos. The Clones and Jedi would be killing each other while the Separatists would still be fighting them too. With Sidious's grand plan revealed he would go into hiding on Separatist planets and attack Kamino and destroy the cloning facilities as there would be no point to use Clones anymore because a new Chancellor would be appointed and Sidious would no longer have command over them. So Sidious, Dooku and Grevious would continue the war against the Republic but Sidious would have a harder time trying to become ruler of the Galaxy.

    His original reaction to Mual’s survival is interesting but i wonder what emotions and thoughts were going through his head. Clearly in his own twisted way he cared somewhat for Mual similar to how a father feels pride for a son. Mual was Darth Sidious’s first apprentice. That would be impossible for anyone teacher even a Sith Lord to not feel something for their first student. Darth Sidious did not have any love for Mual however. Darth Sidious most likely wanted Mual for some kinda of experiments in the Force and possibly other and darker reasons. If Mual had not escaped he would have had a fate far worse then death.

      Unchallenged Mediocrity that would actually make more sense than believing the Mandalorians had so many civil wars it fractured Concordia and turned their homeworld from the Amazon Rainforest into the Sahara Desert. There is a kinda heavy retcon from The Essential Guide to Warfare that says The Republic and Mandalorians had a micro-war around 500 BBY that featured heavy fighting on the planet resulting in The Republic authorizing several Orbital Bombardments that ravaged the planet. Civil wars after may have contributed to the planet looking so fucked up in TCW but I don't believe for a second that the planet doesn't have a few areas of woodlands and habitable biomes. Hell, if The Republic had really been that thorough, they would've committed genocide and been just as evil as the Mandalorians of old...

    Palpatine was never threatened by the idea of Maul trying to rival him, as that was simply laughable, Maul was never even a full Sith Lord, just a Sith Assassin with no plan or ambition outside of what Sidious put in that empty head of his. The moment Maul tried to contend with the two dominant powers in the Galaxy, the Sith and Jedi he'd be crushed like the bug he was. The problem is that Maul was alone, weak and stupid enough to bring the Jedi down on top of him who could capture him AND get him to talk...which WOULD put Palpatine's identity at risk. That's why he snuffed out that idiot and his brother.
    Personally I always hated the Maul arc, it literally did nothing for the show but take away from screen time that could have been used to flesh out Dooku, Grievous and other players in the CW that actually MATTERED. Maul coming back didn't change the galactic balance of power, he never beat Obi wan or pushed him to the Dark Side and he got crushed effortlessly. Then they brought him back AGAIN in Rebels to do literally nothing of importance and he died AGAIN at Kenobi's hands effortlessly making Maul's ENTIRE arc just a stupid time waster to get right back to where he ended in Episode I.

    • @xtoadsannom6704
      @xtoadsannom6704 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would disagree with that. Failing to have Mandalore take a side in the war was Palpatine's greatest defeat and Maul ended up succeeding where Dooku and Sidious had failed, something that Sidious immediately took advantage of.

    • @grandadmiralzaarin4962
      @grandadmiralzaarin4962 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xtoadsannom6704 not really. Mandalore wasn't the galactic power it used to be. Sidious or Tyranus could have easily just killed the leadership or militarily occupy the planet to make it side against the other. You have to remember the end goals for Sidious and Tyranus didn't care about Mandalore beyond some usefulness it's commandos had and it's ore. The fact Sidious effortlessly crushed Maul's militant faction and later the Empire took over the world occupied Mandalore until just after the battle if Endor kind of undermine Palpatine ever "failing" in regards to mandalore. They were allowed to do their own thing until it suited the powers that be to put an end to it.
      So Maul didn't really do anything Sidious or Tyranus couldn't have with less effort for longer results.

    • @grandadmiralzaarin4962
      @grandadmiralzaarin4962 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @JulzBrad 1996 pointing out poor writing and wasted arcs is criticism well earned. That's not a complaint, it's a statement of fact on poor execution from a critical analysis point of view.
      If that makes you uncomfortable by all means don't read it.

    • @grandadmiralzaarin4962
      @grandadmiralzaarin4962 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @JulzBrad 1996 Alright, I will elaborate and clarify.
      I do believe that bringing Maul back was a mistake from both a character and story perspective for a multitude of reasons. This does not mean I don't enjoy aspects of him in isolation. For instance the duel on Tatooine between him and old Ben Kenobi showcases how Maul doesn't change and remains stagnant, which is why he lost so easily to someone who learned, changed and moved on. On it's own, this is actually quite a beautiful and well done scene. The issue with what makes that one scene so good though, is when it is applied to Maul's entire arc as a character retconned from death is detrimental. You have a character who is brought back but cannot kill or maim any significant players in the story, he can't threaten or defeat the Republic or Confederacy and he has to be removed as a factor before Revenge of the Sith takes place but appear again by the Solo timeline and Rebels. This creates an extremely narrow corridor the character can operate in. He can't grow or change, he can't affect the galaxy around him at large, he can't have meaningful interaction other than his own dying with the other main characters that move the story forward. What I dislike is they brought Maul back, but never really thought about the confines that would put his character in. Further the amount of screen time diverted to a character whose arc is essentially flat and going to end nearly the exact same way it did in Ep I could have and should have been used to flesh out the players in the Clone Wars on why they are the way they are. Backstories, episodes on their motivations and the complexities of their characters. That is why I say it was poor writing, because it was poorly conceived and implementing it actively took away from other elements that needed that development.
      I don't have a bias against Maul, I just find him to be a very one note character that never really does anything because plot wise, he can't be allowed to do anything. He literally ceased being of significance when he was replaced from a story telling standpoint.
