The Non-Canon Expert looks at why the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious didn't sense that his apprentice Darth Maul survived his defeat to Jedi Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi on Naboo, having no understanding of Darth Maul's survival until over a decade later during the Clone Wars, explaining the significant events that occurred at the time of Darth Maul's defeat, and then the important information that is relevant over the next twelve years.
This is a Legends story for Darth Maul and Palpatine with information found in a number of Legends sources, but primarily "Star Wars: Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force," "Star Wars: Darth Plagueis," "Star Wars: Death Star," "Star Wars: Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader," and "Star Wars: The Wrath of Darth Maul." In a way the Jedi believing that 1 of their own had killed the 1st Sith to surface in a millennia was probably quite helpful to Sidious moving forward, as it further increased the arrogance that blinded them to the Jedi Trap weaving itself around them xx

@@AT-gt8cb True. But I think that the Council could rationalise this by telling themselves that a skilled bounty hunter can also kill a Jedi. Also the Order had seen a lot of Jedi deaths at this particular time, having seen more deaths in the last 12 years than in the previous 50 (according to Chancellor Valorum). So the death of a Sith was the greater focus I imagine xx

I mean... we can also just figure that Darth Maul isn't completely stupid and knows Palpatine would be as likely to finish the job as to help him in any capacity and, as such, concealed himself. Both from Palpatine and any potential Jedi. Maul is a trained Sith Assassin, Force Concealment should be second nature to him, as a prior video had gone on at length about Palpatine concealing himself from the Jedi as well. I doubt Palpatine would've neglected to teach Maul at least some levels of Force Concealment such as were useful in his capacity as an Assassin.
you know what I don't get is how did Maul know Kenobi's name and how did Obi-wan know Maul's name? Both of them just randomly say the other's name as if it was common knowledge

I cant explain how kenobi knew maul, but its pretty likely that maul knew who he was going to fight before he even landed on the planet, because who just goes in blind and attacks without info, especially a sith
Probably the force, the same way as Maul knew everything of Erza with just look ik the eyes at one of his friend.

In Legends Sidious was disappointed with Mauls defeat alive or dead or undead because he considered to use Maul in a similar way to General Grievous with Dooku as commander but in Canon Sidious was disappointed in Mauls defeat because he saw Maul as a true successor prior to Mauls failure on Naboo
This makes perfect sense. Jedi and Sith can sense familiarities in each other. Confusion in the Force can hide them sometimes. Or if their focus is on something else. Like Palpatine killing Plageous. Obi-Wan remained himself,while Anakin became Vader. Obi-Wan could sense Anakin,while Vader could sense Obi-Wan. Ashoka tried to sense Anakin,but he was gone. She couldnt sense Obi-Wan because of terrible shock and emptiness in the Force. Same for Yoda. Imagine her surprise when she meet Luke :) They didnt know about each other. And like for Morley

Difference was when Maul got defeated Sidious already had back up insurance apprentices planned in case Maul became a failure while with Vader only Luke would be able to best him and he tried to pit Vader against people that he thought would execute Vader after Vader got his cybernetics but all except Luke failed to even being close to eliminating him yeah
I always figured that Maul, having been defeated and sliced in two, was no longer of any use to him, and just didn't care anymore. It's not like giving a damn about your own forces is much of a trait the Sith possess
So maul went completely under the radar because of very great timing from the dark side

In Legends he was only disappointed that he had to replace Maul with Asajj And Grievous while he was planning to have Dooku demote Mauls position anyways.
In Canon Sidious planned for Maul to be his actual successor before Maul get spider legged up and stuff yeah.

I like to think it's more along the lines of the apprentice sensing their masters. The person who taught you how to feel through the force, the constant presence as you learned to sense others. That would probably leave a mark in the apprentice much deeper than the master, who would of already been using the force for quite some time prior to taking on an apprentice. To the apprentice the master would be a parent, good or bad, and we already know family can sense each other intuitively i.e. Leia sensing luke while unaware of her sensitivity to the force. That's my theory anyway, I just think this would add to the relationship between apprentice and master. 🤔🤯

Nah, he was absolutely intended to be a successor, but then Anakin showed up.
In canon and legends he was considered an apprentice however anakin was then seen as the future prospect. If anakin had not been found or even existed then maul would've been side by side with sidious throughout the clone wars and later empire.

@@TY-km8hj In most Legends statements aside from later 2008 TCW Maul was meant to be sith which is true but not one that would be a successor to Sidious even before Dooku And later Anakin were on Sidious radar most implications say that Sidious saw Maul as a prized possession not for his midichlorian count and potential but because of his physical abilities and martial arts skills as well as blade to blade combat that beats most other blade users he had his sights on Dooku even before Mauls defeat dead or alive just as Plagueis did Dookus potential and midichlorian count and power and skill as well as political know how was so high that Plagueis saw Dooku as a potential apprentice if Sidious becomes handicapped or dead while Plagueis did not see Maul as little more then a errand person yeah.
Now in most Canon materials 2008 TCW and on sources claim and imply that Maul was meant to be a true successor before his facepalming error on Naboo after that breathing or not Maul was no longer worthy of being a possible successor in Sidious eyes getting cut in half and becoming insane the second he landed down the reactor shaft made Maul far to damaged up to reach his full potential or near it without nightsister magics which Sidious knew that Talzin would not agree to see Sidious for after Sidious stole her son from her. And at that point even before the bisection Maul was not as powerful, skilled, refined, knowledge, and experienced as Dooku even though he had the potential to be he never reached it even after Talzin restored his body and mind he never reached it or close to it so yeah.

I would also think that he knew that he was kind of breaking the rule of 2 temporarily and was scattered about it until he could make it right by killing of his master.
What i like about these comics is it highlights alot of stuff the movies dont. Like how Kenobi actually failed his Jedi Trials originally and was en route to the mines or service corps for those dont make the cut, and by running into Qui-Gon on a mission, proving his worth there and becoming one of the most famous Jedi Master's in the Galaxy? Crazy, eh?

Seeing videos like this reminds me that I can easily separate the sequels from my mind in terms of the enjoying Star Wars and its continuity without feeling depressed af.

Why do we see blood when Obi Wan strikes down Maul? We never see blood (exept Ep.4 Cantina) I thought the hest of the blade closes the wound
DarkWolper is guess because he didn’t completely severe Maul with his strike. Look at how his legs stick to his body momentarily as he falls, the forces of the fall is what finally tips the sliver of flesh holding him together apart?
I believe we also see blood when Luke kills that creature in the ice cave on Hoth
If I had to guess I'd say it's because the cauterizing power of the lightsaber isn't effective of the blood flow is heavy enough

Can I just point out that Maul was entirely consumed by rage, hatred and confusion and had according to the Clone Wars animated series completely lost himself.
therefor it is likely to assume that his presence within the force may have been disrupted or otherwise disturbed aswell as his grasp of the force was no longer a thing due to his lack of focus and commitment.
Or Darth Maul was dead but Lucas and company knew they fucked up and brought him back to life.

So Darth Plagueis, Darth Sidious and Darth Maul were all around at the same time? There’re so corrupt they can’t even follow their own creed.

Because he died, and then Lucas decided to change everything again.
It's more complicated, Maul was supposed to be in Episode 2 and Peter Serafinowicz was hired to reprise the voice role. However Lucas then sacked Ray Park who embodied him for an incident where he was charging for autographing 'Star Wars' memorabilia at a martial arts event, which gained a lot of bad press in the UK which might have been overblown but Lucas just wrote Maul out.
Interestingly it's a now the other way round with Park returning in 'Solo' and due to be in 'Kenobi' while Serafinowicz is replaced by Sam Witwer, who voiced Maul in 'The Clone Wars'.
Plagueis was not dead yet when Maul was defeated. Plagueis saw Anikin on Corusant
Because the whole thing is a plot device implemented in the cannon after the original writers had written darth maul with no intention of surviving past Episode 1.
