  • Empire: Total War 1vs1: Line Infantry (AUSTRIA vs PRUSSIA)
    Nation: Austria vs Prussia
    AI Strength: normal
    *Fire by Rank used.
*Prussia Line Infantry's stats are unmatched in terms of reloading skill, and have slightly higher morale and charging bonuses.
*Austria Line Infantry have poor morale, shooting capabilites, and melee capabilities, but have 25% more men per regiment.
Numerous, reliable, and durable, Line Infantry are the mainstay of most armies in Empire: Total War. Thanks to their large numbers, high morale, excellent defense, and resistance to morale shocks, line infantry are very resilient. In addition, they are very proficient in shooting and reloading, and have deadly melee capabilities. Short of specialized melee infantry, other line infantry, and well-placed cavalry, few units can expect to fight against line infantry regiments head on and expect to emerge victorious. Line infantry gain the ability to deploy wooden barricades or dig trenches, further enhancing their defensive abilities against cavalry and fire, respectively. Every major faction in the game has slightly different line infantry. The British, for example, have some of the finest line infantry in the game, with slightly higher morale and reloading capabilities, and excellent defensive melee capabilities, leaving them even less vulnerable to frontal charges. Prussian line infantry are unmatched in terms of reloading skill, and have slightly higher morale and charging bonuses. On the other hand of the spectrum, Russia and Austria have notoriously poor line infantry in terms of shooting capabilities, although Russian line infantry are excellent in offensive melees coupled with unmatched charging bonuses, while Austrian line infantry have poor morale, shooting capabilites, and melee capabilities, but have 25% more men per regiment.

2000 years later is so damn true. Even though Napoleon total war is my first and one of my favourites, I can't get over how slow everything is there compared to other total war games. But gotta say the amount of mechanics there, the complex campaign (building etc), naval battles is nice thing to have.

I still find Napoleon faster than Empire.
Played a lot of online battles there and since the units don't need to reform that much, they end up having faster engagements.
Empire truly depicts the age both sides would stare at each other and take a shot at a time.

It seems that Austria had one stray man that caused the entire unit to lose time, and Prussia got the crucial first volley. Do we have a scenario where both sides fire at the same time? Seems like a fairer comparison

one of my favorite sayings for Empire: total war is "anyone can shoot a musket." as long as they have good accuracy and range they'll perform as expected, anything from militia all up to line infantry i just throw into an average gunfire group with firelock armed citizenry at the bottom of that and elite troops at the top as outliers.
of course this is only for shooting, I could expect militia and line infantry to shoot similarly, but melee combat is completely different

I'm in the tail end of my Prussian Campaign now. Have a solid alliance with Poland (Germans and Poles getting along, strange) and Russia (even stranger bed fellows). About to knock Spain out of the game, it'll be fun to see what happens to their large empire in America. The Marathans are invading Europe through Russia while I'm invading southern India. Fun game.

    • @nozero1
      @nozero1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

It was a little surprising to me. There was a game theory concept about it (whose name I'm forgetting) which suggests that greater numbers of weaker units are disproportionately successful against smaller but better quality units in turn based fights. When exchanging shots, I figured that the sheer number of men to kill, versus the number of bullets coming out of them, would give Austria the edge. I suspect its the reloading speed that allowed Prussia to win over time (because that essentially gave them slightly more "turns" or volleys.

    • @jacobortiz1569

Given how the remaining men on both sides was roughly equal towards the end, a unit size of 500 most likely would have flipped the result. the unit size does matter, its just that 40 extra men in this case did not cause enough of a difference

Russian infantry is also the best. NOT IN FIRE, but in melee combat. As said Suvorov, "bullet is a fool, bayonet is well done". And that was true till the 1-st World War.
While defending and capturing castles, and of course fighting cavalery, this is more excellent quality.
Because even Prussia could not do 2 shots when cavalery runs to you.
