    just subscribed after watching the jeep burn to the ground and then binge watching your old stuff the last few days. if its any consolation, all the new subs from the burn video should help towards the expenses of a new rig.

    Good stuff my friend. I like how you re putting all the artifacts back so that some other person(s) down the road can find some cool stuff and show their kids and grandkids. I was in TN a couple of years ago riding a dual sport all along the old trails and logging roads etc. I stopped and stomped around and camped from a tent pretty regular. I was fortunate enough to find several arrow heads and several that were in what I would call hunting condition. They were still sharp and I found some old scrapers and misc broke chips etc. I left them all as well. I am not 100% sure what the laws are in TN, but for me it was more of giving someone else hopes of finding something cool like that is why I left them there. Thanks again for all you do in your videos to not only show us around but throwing in the history for additional education makes it a fun perk as well. Thanks again and have a blessed week sir.

      For sure my friend. I’m not a super emotional guy but it was a bit hard finishing the editing on this video. I just kept thinking about all the adventures I had in that Jeep. I usually keep vehicles for 5-10 years. At about 18 months I was just starting to really get to know that Jeep and get all my kit dialed in. had a lot of great adventures in it for sure.

    I came home on leave from the Marine Corps to Piute County, Utah in 1984. I went hiking with my dad in Kingston Canyon and we found a near perfect arrowhead, the tip was busted off. We pondered the arrowhead's history, did the hunter miss and fracture the tip, did a cow step on it? Great video Casey, brought back fond memories.

    You had a reliable partner in your jeep! She took you away from the 'madding crowd' many a time. Love the music in this video. If you happen to read this, do you remember the name of this music - especially at the first part of the video? This campsite was extra special with so much space! Thanks so much for taking us along with you.

      I tried to find the song again but didn’t have any luck. I just got it off the TH-cam free music for creators section. Thank you. Glad you enjoyed. Yeah that was an awesome campsite. I rarely ever camp twice in the same place but this is a spot I have a feeling I’ll be going back to. Cheers!

    Another great exploring video, albeit a sad ending to your vehicle. But, with your optimism and quest to explore, I'm sure your next vehicle will be better suited for your treks. You are a great steward of the land out there, leaving nothing but some footprints and one fairly charred spot of ground. I truly look forward to your next chapter.

    • @CoyoteWorks01
      @CoyoteWorks01  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you my friend. Agreed on the sad ending. But in a way it’s fitting that right up until the day that Jeep died it was carrying me out exploring. It seems almost kind of fitting that if it had to die, it would die out there in the process of carrying me to do what I love. Cheers!

    Sorry to hear about your Jeep. Glad you put out this video though. I traded in my JKUR for a JLUR. I think it is amazing and Jeep did it right this time. Slow to get parts still but constantly getting better. I have 19,000 miles on it so far, off road every weekend wether it be rocks or exploring and really haven't had any issues yet to speak of. Good luck with whatever you choose to get yet as it is what you prefer that matters most.

      @CoyoteWorks01  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks my friend. Definitely a bummer. But not much I can do about it now but move on. Glad to hear you are liking your JL. And its ‘great to hear from someone who’s actually been taking it off road and put some miles on it. I’d like to get one but I don’t know if it’s quite in my budget ;-). Cheers my friend. Keep me posted on how that Jeep does for you!

    I had to grieve for a while before watching this one. That Jeep was awesome! RIP. A fantastic video though. I really liked the relaxed pace and interesting camp meal. Beautifull scenery, excelent production and thoughtfull dialogue as always. How ironic that you were so carefull not to risk your jeep on that trail only to have an unavoidable catosrtpohic failure on the next trip. Glad you got another JKUR though.

    Another great, educational and inspiring video. Sorry to hear about the fire. Did you ever find the cause?

    • @CoyoteWorks01
      @CoyoteWorks01  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know for sure the cause. But the most plausible one I’ve heard is a transmission line wearing through and dripping transmission fluid onto the hot area near the back of the motor. Apparently there is a transmission line along the bell housing that can wear through from vibration. I’ll probably never know for sure but that seems really likely. Cheers!

    It looks like an awesome trip especially for being the last successful full trip in that Jeep. It sure is cool knowing that people lived there for a while. I think it would be cool to try you replicate what it was like to live out there. Wondering if it was a good enough lake to have fish in it back then. If it was there might be primitive fishing hooks and gorges around the lake.

    • @CoyoteWorks01
      @CoyoteWorks01  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel the same way. One of my favorite pastimes when I find places like that is just walking around and imagining what their lives were like. There could have been fish in it. There is a whole series of dray lakes out in that area.. Cheers!

    I really enjoyed this video while at the same time I was really bummed out by the fact that your Jeep burned up on your next trip! I hope you were able to salvage/save the majority of your kit and weapons before the fire got to it Casey, but it must have been a super stressful to get everything out! Best of luck with getting back to speed with a new used rig!!!

    • @CoyoteWorks01
      @CoyoteWorks01  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know my friend. It was definitely bittersweet finishing the editing on this one. I really enjoyed that trip and it just made me remember how much I really liked that Jeep. I didn’t have a lot of time to get gear out of the Jeep because a brush fire was starting and I had to tend to that. But I did get some. And thankfully by the skin of my teeth I was able to prevent a wildfire starting as a result of it. I’m bummed to have lost so much gear, but It’s better than I would have felt if I was responsible for burning 15,000 acres of that rangeland.

As far as locations go can you is any indication I only curious within 50 75 Mi LOL were you in Far Southeast Lakeview or east of there? I understand if you don't answer I keep everything pretty secret myself I'm not going to tell people for things are so they can ruin them but there's a lot of dry lake beds out in the Hart Mountain area. I've been enjoying your channel I just found it a couple weeks ago. I don't spend much time on TH-cam so it was kind of nice to find somebody interested in the same type of thing I am I found a lot of petroglyphs and pictographs out toward that area that is what draws me toward it. • @weldonstewart330
    @weldonstewart330 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nick's recipe is correct. Hardtack (aka ship's biscuit) will last practically forever, but is inedible in dry form. If you added it to the elk and veg stew from your other video at the beginning of the boil, it would reconstitute fully and be really tasty and filling. Again, sorry about your Jeep. I wouldn't wish that on anybody. Well ok, I would, but I wouldn't tell anyone...;-)

    I think you should invest in a ham radio and join a club. You travel a lot of places alone. Ham is a great back up to your cell phone.

      I carry a ham radio my friend! I actually kept two of them in the Jeep. They both burned... But I will get another. I don’t have my license but I can use the MURS channels.

    To prepare for eating, soak it in water or milk for about 15 minutes, and then fry in a buttered skillet. You can eat it with cheese, soup, or just plain with a dash of salt.

      I’ll try that next time. But I’m not convinced Nick’s hard tack was made exactly right. He likes to experiment with things and I think he may have put some plaster or some drywall mud in it...

      I’ve been looking at them but I can’t really get to serious until I get my offer from the insurance company. Hopefully they will be fair on the replacement cost of the Jeep and I’ll only be out the 10-12k in tools, gear, and accessories that were in and on it. Cheers my friend!

    Glad you didn't die eating my hardtack! It cooks up better if you break it up before you cook it. I also like to dip it in coffee and eat it for breakfast. Here's a link to an article with a bit of information on hardtack as well as the recipe I use. I double the amount of salt for added flavor. www.americantable.org/2013/06/civil-war-recipe-hardtack-1861/

      I agree. But unfortunately those are their rules. I pick them up all day long when I’m on private property. But I’ve also found so many of them over the years that I usually don’t pick one up even then unless it’s a unique or really perfect one. Cheers!

      Coyote Works the reason is if an anthropologist wants to review a site it is important to see the objects in context. So it is important to not take the items but also to return them to where it is found.

    • @vford13
      @vford13 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The second reason for the policy is to preserve that moment of discovery for the next person. When folks take items it ruins the experience for the rest of us.

    I'm watching with interest because I have a 2014 JKU that I've modified to sleep in back by removing the back seat and built a sleep platform. It works well but your experience has raised concerns. I have 2 fire extinguishers close at hand, however would like to know what caused your fire (or any clues) and if there is anything that you will do preemptively if you get another Jeep.

    • @CoyoteWorks01
      @CoyoteWorks01  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know for sure but a couple of guys have mentioned they think it may have been a fuel line that ruptured. Apparently there is a place where the fuel line runs across or near the transmission where it can vibrate and wear through. Everything they describe about how it would start a fire seems a lot like what I witnessed with my fire. So for sure on my next Jeep I’m going to look over the fuel line and make sure it is well padded and protected at any point where it could vibrate and wear agains anything. Cheers my friend. Hope that helps!

      Me to my friend. They are sure taking their sweet time with the process. I’m pretty confident they will cover what they consider replacements cost of the vehicle itself. But it looks like they won’t cover the approx 10k in tools, gear, and accessories on and in it. Big lesson here in what to check for with your insurance coverage if you have a rig stocked up and kitted out for camping and overlanding.
