- India do not have the policy for dual citizenship as a result their nationals living in foreign land needs to apply for OCI card if they are now a citizen of other country and would like to retain their residence status in the country. For us Jesmyra was born here in Canada and since her roots are from India she is eligible to apply an OCI card. So today we will showcase what challenges we faced while applying the OCI and will walkthrough the entire process in detail.

Hi, In the checklist for Toronto Jurisdiction they have mentioned that Original passport of the applicant is required. You have mentioned in the comments below that only copy is sufficient. Did you check with BLS for this?
Thank you for sharing this detailed video.I had a question here - in the OCI application process we need to submit both parents passport details but if Mother's passport is expiring within 6 months and under process of renewal should we wait for new passport to come or we can submit the application with existing passport details itself?
I have more couple of questions-
When do I need to get draft? Before uploading documents or after?
Do I need to upload draft copy too?
Another question which crops up is that the biological father of my child is no more and I got remarried. Would I need to upload both the marriage certificates or not? I am quite confused.

Thanks for the informative video. For taking thumbprints on the application form after print out, on the last page do we need thumb impression on both "Declaration Section" and "Application for minor child" sections where it says "Signature of the applicant"?
Or is thumb impression only required in "Declaration section" while in "Application for minor child" section both parents need to sign where it says "Signature of the applicant"
Minor’s thumb impression is only under *~declaration section* and signature of both parents is under *application for minor child *

In online oci application for minor, in the last part do we only have to submit applicant passport?
Does the birth certificate need to be attested by THE HIGH COMMISSION/EMBASSY/CONSULATE OF THAT COUNTRY? If so, how and where to notarize the birth certificate?
I don't see the options for uploading Birth Certificate and Photo for our child.

@7:01 Father's name must be as per passport, but does it mean including surname also? or just given name which is my name and my father's name together. please respond my OCI application returned due to this.

In the online application in submitting documents they didn’t ask for address proff for minor children please reply and they didn’t ask for work permit also please reply 🙏
There is no option to upload marriage certificate. Pr card copy and pr confirmation copy

Thanks for the video. In the OCI application for Minor, I have 2 questions:
1. What should be the nationality of father and mother? We just got the citizenship of Canada in 2024 and got the Canadian passport a month back. but we were born in India and were earlier having Indian Passport.
2. What should come in the relation with the root Indian? As a father , I am applying for OCI on behalf of my son. We as a family moved to Canada 3 years back.

You can scan the original PR card and upload it.

I applied for OCI of my daughter. After six weeks, I got back original Canadian passport (which I sent with application) from Purolator. Will we get OCI in different mail?
I'm worrying about the application it may be rejected.
I think after verifying all the documents they send your originals back and send your request to Councelate General for further processing however you can always call BLS to check the status or through online portal.

Contact BLS, if you are away from BLS center, then you need to generate the purolator label and send docs along with DD.

There is a form available on the website. You have to download that form, fill it with blue pen and attach it with the form you will send to BLS. There is no Need to upload objection letter for OCI

Open the photo under image editor in your laptop and mention the dimensions which is there on the website The minimum dimensions are 200 pixels (width) x 67 pixels (height). The maximum dimensions are 1500 pixels (width) x 500 pixels (height).

2. The process for OCI will be the same if parents show work permits instead of PR in the supporting documents?

Bullet 1 - Off course, rest the decision stays with you. You can surrender it as well. I mean harm.
Bullet 2 - Yes, the process remains almost except a few documents or information on the form

You have to wait u till you get your PR card and COPR copy. But if you are still on a work permit then you dont need to send your PR card or COPR. Also pls check by calling them.

After they send back the originals how much time they take to send the oci card.
Well we received our OCI card in 7-8 weeks of time-frame. And we never sent out originals as it was not required in our case.
U didn’t fill up the form properly can you please tell me relation with the root. Indian
But in supporting Documents ,My Child Is MINOR (Canadian) ,me N wife both Indian Citizens..
Now in the supporting Document upload ,the option is only for few things ,No Birth Certificate to select ,Only Passport Option is there...
So ,u mean we can make PDF of all the documents (Self Attested and then upload all under PASSPORT OPTION..

Both parent's passport copy, PR copy, Canadian address proof like driving license.
You can create pdf's and upload it at the desired field.

I I contact bls customer service and they said you can just upload for main documents: baby’s Canadian current passport, long birth certificate in relationship option , parent’s Indian origin proof, parent’s marriage certificate and rest of them just bring photocopies while submission in BLS office .

Answering here - no need to send original. I think everyone goes through BLS so that’s the route . As I’ve realized there’s a lot of guess work in this process and one is never really sure.
What about no objection certificate?

hi,as you mentioned supporting docs for uploading but when i try to upload there are options for other docs not for those you mentioned?
VISA < You can upload the PR card(if you are not a Canadian citizen & applying for the child), COPR as well at the same place where it says VISA.
Passport of Parents < you can use both mother & father Cancelled Indian passports , if spouse name on the Cancelled (Canadian citizens) or active Indian passport (PR applicants) then Marriage certificate not required.
you can always mention what document you are talking about which can help the Video creator to help you.

Hello ma'm. Once the online application is submitted and if I want to make a change in that application, I know that is not possible. So can I fill a new application and submit again?
Its a whole new application.
Call BLS tell them that you want to make changes and they have to return your application provided the application should be with BLS and not being sent to consulate general of India for furthur processing.

Yeah that's true you cannot open/view it now. Just try removing the document and try re-uploading it which might revise the view limit.

Boys - Left thumb impression
Take the thumb impression on white paper using ink pad (blue or black only), scan it and upload it.

Hi, do we need to submit baby's canadian passport orginal also?
Nops. OCI is the only one where the original passport is not requested. But they will ask the same in the case of e-visa or multiple entry visas.

On A4 sheet, take a thumb impression of the kid and then scan & upload it.

It depends om the jurisdiction you fall under. Check on website about your jurisdiction as some jurisdictions like Vancouver requires original documents. For Toronto jurisdiction its not required.
