I see a lot of comments about my lack of input in the 2 hour discussion, I'll own that as I was being too polite in not trying to derail the convo and wanted everyone to get their thoughts in and ultimately 2 hours flew by and I didnt say enough of my own personal thoughts. I also get people focusing on our nit picks but a review should point out the good along with the bad and maybe the good got lost in the overall discussion. The game is fantastic overall and more than deserving of our 5/5 score

@@TheRevenantsMovie yea, felt bad for Parris, I mainly listened the whole time but towards the end I started to watch their feeds and noticed that he kept raising his hands and at one point, even Greg acknowledged it but took the opportunity to speak instead of letting Parris talk.
Think the new Review-O-Meter still needs to be calibrated. This is an extremely lukewarm conversation to be talking about a 5/5 game.
Great discussion but it seemed like Janet was struggling to get a word in. Any time there were multiple people talking Greg would throw it to Andy or Blessing. Just wondering if in the future you can make sure to give everyone a chance to speak.

Agreed, Andy and Blessing have a lot to say and can be a bit long-winded. These episodes would have a better flow if they yielded more often or maybe kept the panel to 4 people.
@@Terrell_Dre_ If Blessing talks over everyone, then its a bad character flaw and shows a lack of self awareness. Someone needs to call him out on it privately and get him to stop it. It is common, we all meet people like that throughout our lives. We notice it but most people on a subconscious level don't even know they are doing it.
You guys kept cutting off, Janet. Why have 5 people on the podcast if you don't give the people equal amount of time. I like you Blessing, but give the others a chance for their opinion and review.
A problem with these reviews is that some of them are not fully flushed out. Because they are rushing it to get the reviews done. Such as Andy mentioned missing side quests and being underpowered
Yeah, and i'm guessing those side quests develop the side characters more, which he also had an issue with not caring about them. Feels like a really big whole when reviewing a game.

Reviewing games is a sucky job imo you have to rush to complete the game to meet the review deadline and in doing you cant really enjoy the game fully.
What is it with Kind Funny Games reviews, where they all give it a high score and then spend most of the time talking about the issues rather than developing all the elements they liked.
Because in the end, I think, "Wait did they like this or not?". These need to be more thought through, because the score and enthusiasm doesn't match the discussion.
It’s much easier and more natural to identify things you dislike vs things you like. By and large though this video is extremely positive from almost all of them.
@@jacklawrence3703 I disagree, most of this is them saying they liked it but not developing why, whilst the bad has much more of an in depth look. As a review you're supposed to relay all the reasons why you gave it a certain score, here I didn't think that happened in the correct amounts.
Personally, if they didn't give a score, I'd have guessed it be like a 7/10, not a 9.5.

I really don’t understand why people don’t like the melee so much. I thought it was very basic, but fun in the first game, and here the animations look phenomenal.

I thought zero dawn was good, FW is amazing. I sunk 70 hours maxing out my character and getting legendary weapons and armor before I got to any of the real main and side quests! I was hooked just like death stranding!

You know what's funny? To the best of my knowledge nobody at KF (idk about Janet) has actually beaten the Witcher 3 lol.

And that has its place but it was funny cause if they didn't give out their scores in the beginning, there's no way I could have guessed him giving a 4.

Great discussion, even though if I didn’t know the the scores from get-go I would have thought everyone gave it a 4/5. Maybe it is a 5/5 but I didn’t hear too much on what makes this game “Amazing!”
The fleshed out nuance of what could have been better is much appreciated and its one of the reasons why I enjoy KF reviews but maybe it can be helpful to plan what the positive conversation will look like to prove why the game deserves a high scoring review, such as a discussion moment of what everyone’s top 3 favorite things of the game
But also maybe that’s the necessity of a score system. Like I can talk about the negatives of RDR2 for hours, but in my opinion it is still one of the best games of all times. It can be tough to communicate just how good the game is overall without playing it

It was stated that 5/5 does not mean perfect or a "masterpiece". The reviewers have to decide whether the game is 4/5 or does enough right be considered 5/5.
For example, the three GTA games on PS2 had issues that were apparent in their time. Regardless, those games were amazing -- I would argue worthy of the term "masterpiece". Not that Forbidden West will have anywhere that impact on the industry, as it does not have to in order to be considered 5/5. After all, a 5-point system is not very granular.
@@TheAndyCortez so would it have been more appropriate to release the full discussion when you could talk more freely about the game and its content? I understand you feel like you have to get something out but this just feels like a biased reveal to many folk as there's not much about what makes the game great. If you see my point?
@@vinski19 Biased in what why? They all either gave it a 5/5 or 4/5. Also this is when Playstation lifted the review embargo and wanted people to put their impressions out their.
Loved hearing everyone's thoughts on this. I think my plays tyle aligns with Janet's because in the first game I used TONS of traps. Laying out Tripwires and getting the machine to chase me through it was how I dealt with a lot of the large machines in the first game. It's really disappointing that you can't lay a ton of traps AND you apparently can't run through the tripwires without setting them off. On top of that removing the infinite fast travel pack feels like a major step backward as far as QoL goes. I'm sure I'll still love the game and I'm excited to try the improved melee as I used it way more than I probably should have for how basic it was in the first game. I'm also super excited that you guys have an official rating scale now.

45:35 What? In HZD, without any skills put in, you have to draw for more than a second to shoot an arrow. Meanwhile a light melee attack takes half the time and does more than twice the damage, and a heavy melee takes almost the same amount of time but 6x the damage. Now you get combos and whatnot on top of that? This hate for melee is absurd.
Love Andy on the review content. Very much looking forward to his complete thoughts on Elden Ring, though I likely won't watch until I'm deep into the game myself.
Think it's pretty clear every single 1 of them rushed there playthrough to get the review out. It's half a review basically so many of them missed so much and we're like 'oh really' throughout when 1 mentioning something. Really wish they would just play it properly and get a proper review out it...this one is just not worth listening to...they missed so much

I think if your gonna do a 5 point scale you have to reserve the 5s for the games that are truly special, they don't have to be perfect but maybe one part of it has to be perfect(i.e either the combat or the stoy) the amount of critism that you guys had doesn't seem like this is a 5/5.

X out of 5 scales are inherently more likely to have perfect scores than a 10 or 100 scale. That's not always the case (such as the 4 star ratings with movies) but it tends to be a psychological thing. That said, their scale is essentially just saying the game is amazing.

another weird difference no one prbly noticed between the 1st game and this one tht was a bit of a downside is the elimination long dodge...in the 1st one there was a difference between tapping dodge for a short roll and holding it for a longer roll this was so useful during fights to get away from attacks and stuff taking this away while adding more dangerous machines is weird and a bit of a downside
I am not shocked on how Andy feel about the game. He is more of an Elden Ring type of player. Just wait for his review with Elden Ring. He will say it is the greatest game of all time. I am glad we have different opinions on this game instead of everyone praising it and say its a 5 out of 5.

How did I go into this review video super hyped and come out the other side pretty meh on the game lol. Especially one that was given a 5/5 at the start.
I guess that is the problem with long form review videos where we are just conditioned to rant about negatives otherwise people in chat will say you are being paid off. I also wish the guys didn't have to rush through the game to meet embargo.
Andy especially didnt seem to like the game all that much (but i get the feeling he didnt do enough side quests and exploring), and they gave a lot of negatives and focused on it despite giving 5/5 at the start. I just think KF isnt so hot on this franchise

I’ve noticed that review embargo’s seem to be based on the devs timezone, typically around 9AM. Ie the start of their workday

My favorite little thing about zero dawn is that if you do certain side quests through out your game those characters that you meet appear at the final mission and help you because they believe in you and it makes me feel like I’ve made a impact in the world and do become this hero that’s destined to save the world.
Great reviews. Love hearing the gameplay is satisfying. I wish everyone was a little bit more vague with the characters involved. Knowing Lance is not the big bad kinda let me down.

I really appreciate that KF has an official review scale, but I feel like it still needs some tinkering - specifically to differentiate between what other sites score as an 8, 9, and 10. When Bless says it’s 5/5 but then in the nuanced conversation he reveals it to actually be less than 5 and more like a 4.5, that seems like a problem to me. Maybe the solution could be adding a 6 for games/movies that are Masterpiece level? I think the easiest solution would just be adopting the 10 point scale because most people can tell the difference between an 8, 9, and 10 🤔

I'm having a blast with the game but let's be honest it's a little clunky at times, repetitive puzzles etc. Personally a fantastic 8/10 for me but I'm old school 90s scoring.
Honestly, they prob decided to use this to get people to stop focusing on the score, like you are doing .

I watched and listened this entire review and i dont see you guys talk much about why this game is amazing and why you all gave it a 5 out of 5. There was a lengthy discussion on quests, melee, dialogues, bugs and lot of negatives, but what about graphics, gameplay, dual sense, story, improvements over zero dawn??
Having agreed with Tim more than anyone on the first one I was hoping to see him here. I’m very skeptical still after your well done reviews.
I think Greg even said at one point that there's so much they can't discuss due to embargoes and spoilers. So I guess the pros outweigh the cons by a large margin.

I really loved Forbidden West, put 75 hours in to it. And I'm at about 90% completion but the last activities I will not do. Just finished it yesterday so now it's on to Elden ring. (Which seems really big aswell)
Is it Discord which is causing people's cams to blur them when they are speaking? I'm generally working and listening rather than watching but everytime I look down the speaker is blurry as all get out and everyone else is crisp.
See this review is exactly why I don’t like numerical values in review content. Everyone agrees with Andy’s criticisms of the game but only one says it’s not as high a score as can be given. And he brings up a lot of pretty troubling issues. Even to say that the game has a lot of technical issues on the patch…
Idk. I feels weird to me, and feels like there are just going to be a lot of 4’s and 5’s for the reviewable games (without a real good way to differentiate between the two - if this is a 5 despite all the problems). Kind of limits the usefulness of having a scale at all.
It sounds like this game plays better when you take your time with it and engage with the side content. The way Andy played it being the antithesis lol I'd hate to have to lower down to easy to meet a deadline.
Imagine going to a seven course dinner, taking one single bit out of every dish and then saying it was an OKish meal.

And if the review drained your excitement that's your fault maybe your expectations were to high. Especially if you get so upset to the point were your calling people who actually have experience with the game pretentious, calling them liars and saying that their opinions are unreliable. If you don't want to hear any criticism of a game and don't want to get your feelings hurt I recommend you just stick to watching trailers put out by these companies. Instead of expecting people to say only positive things so not to spoil your excitement just because they gave their opinions.
Melee is the most powerful tree, everything dies so fast when energized. It's so fun and visceral, you definitely feel the hits. I'm 40 hours in and only 15% of the story complete.

I have mid-late game loot leveled to max or one or two before max. Hunting machines for parts is so fun and rewarding.
Andy should be on every review podcast for all consolers (playstation games, xbox games, nintendo games). He is the only one imo that is subjective and not on a console team so his reviews and thoughts seem more real and genuine. More of a third party reviewer then on a specific team and I really appreciate that. Horizion Zero Dawn was deff one of my top games of last gen and I cant wait to play this but it will have to be later in the year because Elden Ring is next week and no way I will beat Zero Dawn by then.

feels right to call horizon amazing but it doesn't feel like a best possible score given how critical you all are. andy's take feels most accurate and fair for this one.
His was also very subjective. You might connect with characters, as other reviewers have and disagree with what he said.

5 minutes in and bless says its a 5/5, but that doesn’t mean its a masterpiece. So, doesn’t this mean that there would be a category beyond 5/5, kind of undermining the 5-point scale? For example, GoW 2018, for me, is a masterpiece, as was TLOU part II.

Sounds like you could do a story mission one day and then do side quests the next. You will progress but just slowly.

Yeah if you're really committed to the hours. I beat the game in about 3-4 or 5 sessions maybe 5 max. I did the intro area to get to the opening credits. Then a good chunk of the first area + there's a point where you get 2 main quests at once that speak to the larger conflict of the game and I did one of them. Then I had to put the game down for other work and I came back and beat the game in a single day but I was playing from the early afternoon until like 3am.
Obviously if you want to dig into more of the side stuff you wont progress the main story as quickly but it's definitely marathonable and I think the first area goes pretty quick bc you don't have the tools to "explore more" yet.

Not gonna lie, little surprised to hear Sylens isn't in the game more (from what Blessing is suggesting). It really sounded like he was going to be a driving force in the game after how Zero Dawn ended. But if anything, I'm more intrigued now.
Really glad Andy and Greg were in on this conversation to include more criticism. This review could have turned into a real love fest without them there to level out the discussion. Thanks guys!

In the first game you can travel infinitely to campfires once you have the unlimited travel pack gained in one of the larger settlements. At least that's what I remember.

At some points it sounded like more of a 3/5 and more generally a 4/5 game based on the review seeming to mainly be filled with complaints. Definitely didn't sound like a 5/5 from listening to this.

I think it would be cool for you guys to expand upon your scoring system. Like, really tell us what you look for in a 1-5 game. Like what makes a game Amazing and not great. They are pretty subjective terms, as reviews are in general, but some elaboration would be nice.
Man Andy it really didn’t feel like you thought this game was a 4/5 with how much you poo poo’d all over it for 2 hours.

in a similar way of us sometimes only reading and responding to negative comments, it's easy to focus mostly on the things you think the game could have done better. similarly, we can talk positively about a game for half the time and the comments will focus on our negativity. that's just human nature.

We listen to these reviews for your guys opinions and if not for the beginning where you said it was a 4/5 I would have thought that you really weren’t a huge fan of the game. Not trying to hate or anything I clearly listen to you guys cuz I’m a huge fan. Anyways keep making great content.

10 years ago, when someone says 40-hours of gameplay, I would say, 'MORE'! Now, I was hoping that this was a 20-25 hour game so I have could roll credits at a reasonable time 😅 But these reviews help in giving me a different perspectives of the game! I will wait until a few months to rock HFW and would probably try Elden Ring first for the February/March games!
I think Elden Ring will be a bigger, longer game than HFW. If I were you I'd play through Horizon first, although it's still a big game you'll get through it long before you would get through Elden Ring.

Here's hoping HFW can get away from BOTW now. Other games have done traversal, gliding and climbing before so let's have some fresh takes rather than comparisons. 🙏

I hope H3 take more character building tips from Witcher 3. That’s the missing piece. Characters actually feeling like they have a back story and relationships not only with Aloy but others in the world. Hopefully they’ll be able to focus on more dialogue since they don’t have to worry about PS4 anymore.
Overall this review was far far more critical and negative than what’s reflected in all your review scores…especially Andy’s score. I still enjoyed the discussions tho I’m just offering some feedback!

@@19RoFlMao19 Saying they're pretentious is a bit much. Talking about negatives in a non spoiler review is simply easier, especially after a day one patch. They'll rave about the game more when they can actually go into story and core gameplay. They're just being critical, not outright trashing the game.
On another note, if you don't exactly like them, why do you watch?
Man, I love the robot creature designs, human outfits, gear, weapon types cultures and the world lore but can't get in to games this story heavy.
I would kill for a Monster Hunter clone set in the Horizon universe, Horizon - Hunters. Make it happen Sony, get that Monster Hunter World money

@Munveer Singh I'm in no rush to play this. Give it a few weeks, and the game will be half price anyway, plenty of stuff on GamePass. My PS5 has been collecting dust since July last year.

@Jay G Because Sony were publicly adamant games like Horizon Forbidden West, GT, GOW Ragnarok were PS5 exclusive games, as we all know now, Sony, shall we say, withheld the truth from us. I had 3 PS5's on release day, I haven't turned them on since July.
Meanwhile Microsoft was taking unnecessary heat by being pro consumer with smart delivery, and being upfront about cross-generation games. In a lot of the fanboy console war circles, Microsoft was getting ridiculed, with people saying a new console was unnecessary, because you could play the games on XboxOne.
PS5 had 'true' next generation games, and XboxOne would hold back Xbox Series X. Unbeknown to them, Sony had the same strategy, and didn't say anything.
Why would you rush out to buy a new console, knowing PS4 would be able to play those games for years to come? It would undermine the fanboy fanbase that largely helped Sony win the start of the PS4 generation, and carried them throughout the generation.
Unfortunately, Sony has the most anti-consumer pricing strategy. They have a string of games recently that have been remastered/remade/director cuts etc, they even paywalled Spiderman PS4 to PS5 upgrades.
They charge an extra £10 to play the same games on PS5, and have paved the runway for other publishers to charge more money.
They received massive backlash about Forbidden West price point, and had to back track. Even now Sony are being really shady. On the PS5 storefront, the cheaper "free" upgradeable PS4 version isn't listed. They also haven't provided any information on how the upgrade works, if you purchase the PS4 version, and pre-download on PS5, only the PS4 version is available for download. They are it making so unnecessary difficult, that my PS5 will only be used for games I can only play on PS5.

We also have to buy the game again on PC, even though we already own the game.
So why would I waste my money, when I can play the far superior version of Sony games on PC at 4K@120fps, at a reduced cost with DLC included along the improvements rolled in from all the patches, not locked into Sony’s eco system? It's not like Sony games have online components, they are all largely single player native games.
Just wanted to let you guys know I thoroughly enjoyed this discussion and video. Love all of the people on this review and look forward to more discourse during the spoilercast for this game. I think both Paris and Janet made great contributions and hope to see and hear more of them in content in the future, you both rock! Yes there were a lot of negatives for a 5/5, but I took it more in the way that you guys were frustrated that those things kept it from being a masterpiece. I definitely heard a lot of positives in the discussion as well, they were just less indepth which could be due to spoilers(thank you for that!). I think some people need to realize that a 5/5 is not always a 100% it could be a 85 or 90. Still a great game and a great review. Thank you!

Never understood when you get some comments from people getting upset with people critiquing the game in the video. It’s a review! lol
Critiquing is great, but if a review doesn't match the score at all, then the review is definitely lacking in some point. Most of them give the game 5/5 and I still have no idea why after watching 90+ minutes
@@X5J2UY Why are you so hung up on the score? 5/5 - amazing. Something that is amazing can still be critiqued? it doesn’t mean it will be all positive. They each explained why they thought it was amazing/great and any issue they had with it.
@@geoafe66 Mate, they spend 80 out of 100 minutes of that review highlighting all these issues, while giving the game a 5/5. I have nothing against critique, hell I want to hear the negative aspects of a game, but don't spend most of your time on it, when the game is supposed to be "amazing". I still don't know why this game is so great or what is so much better than before. If a professional reviewer thinks that a game is amazing, then tell me why. And this felt like a conversation between mostly Greg and Andy, then Blessing. Janet and Parris rarely even talked.

there is a golden fast travel pack in HFW, you just didn't find it yet. The fast travel system is so simple and people make a huge deal out of it

Finally beat it and got all trophies recently. It's a good game but the climbing, combat and upgrade system really bogs it down imo, the absurd amount of dialogue for even side quests doesn't help either. By the time I finished I was more thankful that I would never have to open the game again. It's a 4/5 for me
