I really enjoyed the last couple of review formats where Tim hasn’t played it and gets to ask questions/clarify things that the people reviewing it have to say.
Tim is a great moderator of this conversation
I thought your profile pic was of Tim for a second lol! And I agree I like this format as well.
@@henreebee6561 Tim complimenting himself on burner accounts but still using his own picture would be 10/10 lol
@@TrimblyWimbly lol, that’s just like Tim!! XD
My friends and I are 27-28 now. We have been going to one friends house every Friday for about 15 years now. Since it came out, we play through a Souls game every time(we can beat them fast). Cannot describe my excitement for this Friday
Holy shit! How long are the campaigns? That’s impressive.
The one dude that was disappointed with ER didn't seem like he really knew what he was doing in elden ring , you can adjust the ashes of war and other gear to literally cater to whatever build you want.( if you want a quality build you can change the affinity of your gear and ashes) You just need to grind and explore and just be diligent.
Tam and Andy really appreciate nuances in design that I don't think matter as much to some people, which is awesome.
It's also why hearing Blessing's different perspective is really helpful since I foresee myself having the same gripes he has.
@@HermanFalckHow That's exactly how I play, lol. I'm just curious/skeptical what that sort of usually linear guide looks like in an open world game.
Blessing view of rewards seems to be based on bloodborne but if you’ve played any souls game you pick up 100+ weapons and armor you will never use but they tell the lore and have discription a that you read for detail to the world and story
Not knowing where to go next just means youre into linear games and should probably stick to that if problems youre having are purely preferencial.
@@shadowpsyke Its really not bad. I would have same gripes but I don't agree with Blessing. I never had to grind it out. Blessing seems to not do the thing you are supposed to do, if the boss is too hard MOVE ON, there is no penalty in doing it later. That's how the game is designed. Its really not bad at all especially when you have spirits to help you if you feel the need.
andy has really found his voice for talking about games! he has valuable insight and is good at explaining his thoughts/feelings
The real gamer Andy cortez
He’s always had the insight but Blessing usually gets the first take and literally hits every single point before someone else goes lol. My opinion at least
Andy discovering the Souls series has been amazing from the start to finish
After going through a similar journey to Andy and finishing several souls games over the last year, I am so so happy with this
The point Blessing is making at 13:50 & 15:40 is why I personally hold devs like FromSoftware or Mobius Digital with Outer Wilds at a higher regard, the detail and deliberation in crafting these worlds and even just placements of items in their games actually help tell their story whereas most other franchises place their points of interest or items to discover as just another dot to connect to across a vast map that they believe we should be impressed by because it's big & beautiful. Being able to subtly build out worlds that genuinely feels fully realized, ones that has had lifetimes of history to it is craftsmanship that should be appreciated.
BGS are masters at this as well. They’ve been doing the open world thing the best for years. Looks like Elden Ring surpassed that now 🤩
@@thepeacefulchannel613 they will only surpass them if I shoot hundreds of feet into the sky after that giant stomps me lol
Tim going through the "Brian Altano Bloodborne" transformation.
Tim about to become a hard-core FromSoft fan.
Brian's turnaround in 2015 was what got me interested in the soulsborne games! "This enemy in an alley is the size of a truck, and I went back there and said, give me my money back!"
@@SonicBroham haha still one of my fav episodes of any podcast coz I really didn't see that coming
Tim has said all these years how he's not good at gaming, and I see this might be the turnaround when he sees is not about being good, but about perseverence. I don't consider myself particularly good at games, but I've platinumed every From game since Demon's Souls (except remasteres) and ever since that game I also play most games on hard from the get go, cause shit don't taste quite the same after Demon's Souls.
@@SonicBroham Where do I find this podcast you speak of?
Kinda odd how Blessing talked about tutorials in this game. They took the Sekiro route by stopping the game to explain the new mechanic, for instance the pouch he said he didn’t know about. Then just in case you missed it there’s a whole menu in your inventory with all the tutorials. I honestly don’t know how much more they could do with the major mechanics.
Honestly, usually agree with Blessing’s reviews, but it almost seems like I’m playing a different game when it comes to most of the criticisms.
Ah well hope he enjoys the rest of the game. Cheers.
Bro hearing tim say that he played sekiro for an hour was one of the must hyped things ive heard in a while! LETS GO TIIIIIIM
I legitimately screamed in my car when I heard it! So stoked for Tim!
With my best Bruce Buffer impression: “ITS TIIIIIIIIIIIME”
I might be misinterpreting what he said, but it sounds like Blessing's not fully aware of how the weapon upgrade system works. Complaining that he's not finding any OP weapons that are immediately better than his current one makes no sense, because unless you NEVER upgrade your equipment, it should always be marginally stronger than a weapon you just found. Doesn't matter how cool it looks, a base greatsword isn't gonna do as much damage as a +5 katana; you're gonna have to upgrade it. So the reward for finding new weapons is a combination of trying a different moveset that you might like more than the current one, possibly finding a unique weapon skill, along with the new weapon's scaling and damage POTENTIAL. I've always loved this about From's games, and this one more than any others. Every reward in the game requires you to make an INVESTMENT, whether it's runes/souls, smithing stones, risking a dangerous new area, or even just the time it'll take to reach an objective. Everything in this game is earned, not just given at random. And that makes every new weapon/ash/piece of gear feel significant, even if it doesn't fit your current build.
When it comes to tutorials, the biggest issue is mainly reading and reading comprehension in my opinion. The pop up tutorials are extremely helpful, especially if you try to do what the tutorials say as soon as you see them. Most let’s plays I’ve seen though show the players quickly skimming and then not understanding later which is more of a personal issue imo. Also all the tutorials are in your inventory for reference
My favorite part about this is throughout the entire review Tim looking completely fascinated in everything theyre saying while also having absolutely zero clue what any of them are saying
Blessing does the worse Elden ring take I have heard: I decided to kill giants over and over in a game that has half a billion things to do. And I didn’t like doing that. I was only getting new summons from dungeons so I decided to keep doing those and got angry and not getting something different
Blessing your description reminds me of the opening of DS1s where their are multiple paths and a couple of them are so hard your kinda unsure if your supposed to be there, while I can understand that can be frustrating and exacerbated by an open world, I really think that is what some people love about Fromsoft Games. The feeling that you are trapped and that their could be, and probably is, danger around every corner.
This. I’d prefer it to any icon literred map that tells you what to expect
So hyped for Friday. Bless’s points of contention just seem to be the things that make Souls games what they are. The obtuseness is part of the charm. These aren’t loot games you don’t change gear constantly it’s about picking something that works for you and upgrading it over the course of the game.
Still seems valid to point them out, just his opinions on small things he doesn’t love
@@taylorjack2130 yes and no. Pointing out that loot isn't an upgrade is kind of missing the point. You rarely get weapons in from games that are immediate upgrades however it might be something that over time might be better.
@@nathanhargenrader645 well I think his point was from the vantage of it being an open world which is new territory for From. Still valid.
It’s seems it’s a bridge between the usual formula and new frontiers for From, so it’s nice to hear that for someone new to these types of game. Knowing what to expect really is what it boils down to.
Not intentionally throwing shade at him but I also raised an eyebrow on his point about being too terrified to continue with lots of currency on him. That’s also a soulsborne hallmark and something you have to manage. I get the distinction with it now being an open world but you have to essentially be in a position where you’re prepared to lose all your souls/runes if you keep pressing on. You’re not obligated to go back and get them, sometimes if you build up a ton and lose them somewhere you don’t want to retread, you have to just write them off. There will always be more.
For the loot specifically, his point was he didn't find exploration gratifying because of the reward being loot he couldn't use.
About the obtuseness, you have to realize there's a whole group of Fromsoft players who play exclusively following a guide or having help. Bloodborne and Sekiro are two of my favorite games ever and not once did I play them without a guide. But still both those games are fairly linear so even if you're big dumb like me you can find your way to where you need to go.
Blessing complains about not getting items he wanted seems inconsistent since I don't think he's ever complained about BOTW's weapon durability, and that shit wasn't even attached to good combat. I remember at a point I just went straight into avoiding combat as much as possible, casue it wasn't good and the rewards were shit and my weapons kept breaking.
BOTW weapon durability system is possibly the worst mechanic ever added to any game.
Seeing Tamoor so excited to talk about this game is heart warming.
This game is probably one the best games I've ever played.
Congrats on the Sifu Plat Tim, I definitely need to get the plat now.
Maddd respect on him having that Sifu plat! Game is hella tough lol
It's just refreshing to see a game that was hyped up actually deliver
Y E S
I thought the tutorial systems and menus in Elden Ring were completely fine. When there’s something to know, an info screen pops up and then every one of those is stored in your inventory. If you’re rushing through and don’t take the time to read those then that’s not the game’s problem.
As Andy and Tam were mentioning, it is so cool that all negatives from Bless are major positives for me.
Man I can't wait to play this game. Great Gamescast Review episode KFG!
Tamoor’s excitement at a possible custom intro, 5/5 1:48
As a huge arachnophobe, this game looks damn perfect but also like it’s almost guaranteed to have a huge spider boss that would make me drop the game immediately.
Finally, someone who shares my pain. I bought Skyrim a while back on the recommendation of a friend. Probably, the quickest I ever quit out of a game when I saw the giant spiders.
The good thing about this one is you can just nope out of the Spider Boss and go somewhere else.
Same here. I really wish devs could come up with something more creative than giant spiders/insects. Especially in RPGs. It´s like it´s part of some kind of checklist they have to follow.
Fears should not be avoided. Fear is your body’s way of telling you the things you need to face in order to build up more emotional and psychological resiliency by facing them.
@@QuarantinedCapricorn the only thing a Giant Scary Spider tells me is to get the fuck away lol, seems like a good choice 10/10 times!
The fact that blessing isn't getting anything out of the dungeons other then a drop is crazy. You are pitted in small spaces or fighting on poison to bring you with the realization that those mechanics are going to be further in the game and they are getting you ready for that. It's not the boss drop its the entire dungeon that you need to look at. The race back to your runes/souls is a key mechanic in this game.... if you don't enjoy it you are 100% playing the wrong game.
"I know it has instructions in the item descriptions, pop-up tips for everything and a repository of all of the tutorial material but I hit the button before I read it and also I don't want to read it and I feel that's not on me. You should make me read it, because it's not clear that I need to."
That's what his complaints sound like 🤣
Please do a fresh start on stream, Andy - seeing you discover even some of the game would be a joy!
I second this heavyy
It's interesting how Tam and Blessing switched their positions from Sifu to Elden Ring. In Sifu, Blessing absolutely loved the game whereas Tam was the one who was conflicted.
Well Sifu is a PlayStation exclusive, so Blessing can’t help but like it more.
Yea, over the challenge/frustration as well. I think they both just needed more time with the respective game.
@@AwwwBeanz
He was probably looking forward to Elden Ring moreso than Sifu, after Bloodborne and Sekiro.
@@Alex_Logan22 I’m sure he had higher expectations for Elden Ring than Sifu yeah. There’s definitely some hype for it.
Tam wrote off Sifu seemingly because it wasn't Sekiro. It was an odd take. He didn't want to learn to play it, expected it to play identically to other games and basically complained that it was too hard. It was quite bizarre and rare misfire from him!
I totally understand Blessing’s criticism and think it’s valid, but in my experience playing Souls games, sometimes you just lose those souls/echoes and never get them back. You just gotta cut your losses sometimes.
The biggest piece of advice I can give anyone playing these games is to not get attached to souls. You’ll get them back.
The biggest problem noobies have in these games is they get all anxious and angry. You gotta just vibe with the game.
damn, Andy showing off the gun show at 3:22
Sorry to hear about the difficult review window y'all. Your passion in this insane February for games is greatly appreciated and I'm very impressed with how everyone has tackled reviews in spite of the challenges. That doesn't go unnoticed! Also, I am rocking wildly in my desk chair I am so excited lol.
Tim "GET IT!" Gettys. My man.
Bless, you do know there is fast travel in this game, not just with the sites of grace, but the statues of Marika. So if you are worried of travelling back to get your runes, just fast travel...Pick them up and then bounce
After listening to Andy and Tam talk about this game, as well as hearing that it's online multiplayer, I think I have to make Elden Ring be my first Souls game.
It’s currently one of the highest reviewed video games… EVER. I’m so stoked .
Andy’s subtle imitation of the korok seed had me dying 😂
Blessing reads Neogaf.
Blessing's wrong with saying the game doesn't tell you where to go, because the sites of grace literally point into the direction you're supposed to go. 😌
Andy's Vaatividya impression is super good.
Blessing needs to take a breath and let the other guys speak more. Saying that his experience will be close to my own so appreciated what he had to say.
That moment that bless is talking about with shacks;if you don’t kill him he’ll give you an item that’ll help you fight the first boss.
way too many spoilers in this discussion, frankly
Tim’s beard is almost at a Kratos level… and it suits him. Keep on growing ✌️
Damn. First 5/5 for Horizon and now 5/5 for Elden Ring and next week GT7 is coming out! And SIFU is still kick ass! What a great time to be alive as a gamer
Not sure why everyone has to have this reviewed before launch? We’re already hyped. Tamoor even tweeted about him being physically weakened by the crunch for this game. Especially when HFW was just last week I think the reviews should have been pushed a month. Or just say impressions. There is no need to rush out a review score that few people even care about. Can’t wait for mine to come on Friday.
It's interesting how little thought they give here to the idea that many people who have never played Souls games are going to hear that there's a GOTY open world game out and play it knowing nothing about Bloodborne.
if u play 60 hours and mainline the game your missing 75 perfect of greatness created by from
For once, I am glad I am single and don't have a family to distract my time from playing. A game like this sucks for those of us with regular jobs where maybe we can play 1-2 hrs on a normal week day. It's going to take us forever to best this monster
Tam: ITS AMAZING!!
Andy: ITS AMAZING!
Bless: 😐
Tan and Andy are correct. I reviewed it as well.
Never been more hyped for a game in my life. Damn near cried happy tears seeing the reviews roll in this morning. We made it y'all.
Its funny when he mentions the mining cave, there is not like an upgrade weapon out it. The ball bearing are probably the most important item for progression in the game.
Does Blessing know about the guiding grace mechanic that’s in the game? It’s been pretty well defined from reading other reviews
FYI - Tim's beard looks magnificent!
I feel like most of Blessing's negatives could be virtually eliminated if he just stopped playing scared. He's worried about being under-leveled for an area, but leveling up is such a marginal improvement that grinding is almost always a waste of time. You just have to be brave, go exploring, and step up to the challenge when the time comes.
Beating the bosses after getting wrecked the first 150 times is more rewarding than any item you can find in a game.
Barrett is so good on the 1's and 2's
Tim is turning into Nick.
It feels like Bless is really trapped in the linear From Soft game mindset. I had a bit of that in the first ten hours in Elden Ring. But at some point it just clicked and I felt this total freedom. This game makes it so easy to explore with very little risk. Recovering runes is easier than ever because of the mount and fast travel and being able to run from boss fights like Andy said. I'm at the point where I'm not really afraid of challenges or losing runes unless I'm inside a mini dungeon or tight space or no mount zone. And when I have too many runes to go in comfortably I just continue my open world exploration until I can spend them and then come back. There is just so much freedom in how difficult you want your experience to be and when you can tackle each challenge.
You should never feel like you have to "farm" in this game. You just explore everything and level naturally and you will have no issues with being underpowered. Scoure the mal and enjoy!
Blessing’s commentary sounds like him having to play a FromSoft game on his own for the first time instead of chat guiding him. I just can’t seem to enjoy listening his takes/opinions on games, i don’t know why and this is not a personal knock or something.
I loved the one guy saying it might be fromsofts LEAST finished souls game ever.....lol wut.
Mr Tim Gettys' beard is POWERFUL
I had high expectations but did not expect to see "one of the greatest games ever made" repeatedly across reviews. Cannot fucking wait for this game!
Also congrats on the Sifu plat Tim!
Tam admits he has been handing out 10’s like candy… but Elden Ring has reminded him why he loves gaming and now those games are “gamey”?
The one thing I can say to Blessing is that at some point, you stop caring about losing Souls, Blood Echoes, Runes, etc. In NG+3 of DS3, I once lost over 3 million souls. Obviously I'd already beaten the game a few times, and Souls arguably mean less at that point, but still, losing Souls/Echoes/Runes is just part of the process and you gotta be okay with that (in my opinion). Once you have that mindset, you feel a lot more free to explore and experiment and all that, without feeling burdened.
So glad I found this channel! Loving elden ring as well guys, keep up the great work 🙏🏼
Next week is Grand Turismo 7 guys, don't sleep on it!!
Tam went full Ultra Instinct during that speech.
Love how I always know the review season joke is coming and I still crack up
Seeing Tam finally able to play and talk about this game makes me so happy 😊
I should’ve expected Tam considering the subject matter, but I nearly yelled in excitement “They brought Tam!” when I started the vid.
The reviews for Elden Ring have made my fucking day. I took some time off to play this game and am SO happy to hear it was worth it.'
Bless gave this a 4/5 but, it feels like he's much lower on it than that. Bless has that freshly beaten by FromSoftware saltiness going on. No shade, I've been there.
He didn't give it any score he was comfortable with, just an in-progress/unfinished score/review.
Yea; I feel like a lot of bless’ gripes with this game either have to do with things that are very inline with the genre or him looking more at what isn’t in the game as opposed to what is in the game. I’m sure there was plenty of those “I wish this was in the game, and it sucks that it isn’t” for plenty of other games like horizon so I don’t think it’s fair to look at it that why.
Excited to see Tim on. Despite not playing Dying Light 2 his contribution to the review alongside Greg's really enhanced the conversation
Bless you aren't the lead on this review dude. You gotta quit dominating people's time and points. You did the same in the horizon review which you were the lead on so it's a bit more acceptable but just chill some man.
This was a great review discussion. I’m very happy to see people loving these type of games having a blast. Also Tam is awesome
Holy crap that was an amazing review Tam!!! Convinced me to get the game right there.
I feel like blessing forgot how souls games work. So many people can go through the entire game with an early weapon/gear because their "rewards" were the upgrade materials/souls.
Yup. People play the entirety of Dark Souls with the starter long sword. It’s about finding a move set you like, every weapon is viable.
Blessing's issue seems to be that he wants to rush through, because of his job. If he was playing this for fun and at his own pace I feel he'd enjoy it more. It should never be about "Now where's my prize" the prize is enjoying what secrets are out there. You can get really cool weapons early on, if you watch the video's back in November. Yes they have changed the loot in certain chests, but at least you'd know a rough idea where to go. Plus if you follow the golden strands that come off the Sites of grace, it shows you the way to go, similar to the leaves in Ghost of Tsushima.
I don’t know if it was because they may have patched it after the video, but you can use multiple Golden Runes at once. Choose “use selected” from the options then set the number you want to use.
First downloaded bloodborne when it was a free game with PS plus a few years ago - didn’t get far and discarded it as too hard and not a game for me. I Watched TH-camrs play sekiro when it came out and liked what I saw so bought a copy, but again, I didn’t get very far and ended up trading it in not long after. But When Demons Souls released at PS5 launch and Andy started streaming it, was hooked and wanted to play something new and shiny for the PS5. I took the leap of faith and bough it digitally so this time there was no going back. I Beat demons souls following Andy’s playthrough as a rough guide and a few months after that gave bloodborne another chance and got the platinum following a walkthrough. Super excited to give Elden ring a go but conscious of playing it so close to launch for guides!
Thanks for the review. Reaffirmed that this is a game that I would hate. Glad it's satisfying for people that are into this kind of thing though.
Blessing totally hates this game but doesn't want to bad mouth from software.
Tim beat Cuphead and platinumed Sifu. I have to say, I only have seven platinum trophies and none were very hard to get and were more about endurance over skill (although I am kinda proud that I beat FFVII Remake on Hard mode without realizing you can totally break the game with Tifa alone). He truly is an S-tier Gamer.
Whether or not we agree with Bless in the end, it's great to have a mix of opinions.
Aren't most of Blessings issues an user error of not paying attention? There are both tutorials for the item pouch and how to switch into two hands mode, and then there are the guiding light from Bonfire to Bonfire that show were you should be going no?
These guys couldn't help themselves and spoiled a lot of moments that are better left unsaid lol.
You do not need a pause button : Just go in menu and select Quit. The game will save for you. You can even do it quickly in a boss fight!!
Slaying the boss is the reward. The reward of victory.
Blessing a whole goof
So basically, those of us who have never played a fromsoft game will be in for an amazing experience as long as we are willing to put in the effort!
The burden of entry may seem high for some, but you'll get it! The average gamer can handle Soulsborne games, once they take the (minimal) time to learn them.
If you're struggling too much, just watch Let's Plays for a while (essentially how I got good at DS1)! 😎
I think Soulsbornes games are not for Blessing' lol. All the things he complained about are what most souls fans love about the game. I think his opinion on the game, is what a lot of casual players who are not used to souls games are going to think about the game.
Blessing’s disappointed with not getting a new useful weapon that makes you want to discard your old weapon for probably stems from the fact he hasn’t played dark souls. Even bloodborne to a degree has the same issue. In all of these souls games, I rarely changed weapons and even in bloodborne. Instead I would just stick to my axe and upgraded that to the max, maybe I would experiment with a few others but I would generally stick to one. I don’t know how he played bloodborne but I feel like this “issue” isn’t unique to eldenring
Dude in the bottom right complaining about golden runes taking too long to use one at a time. Click, “use selected” instead and you can choose how many you pop at once.
As a person who has never played a soulsborne game I think Blessing's insights were the most helpful on trying to decide if I want to tackle this one
This is gonna be my first ever souls game. I'm hyper as hell, but a bit nervous.
I’m sure I’m going to adore this game but shoutout to Blessing for voicing a different side of things. Great to get all these varied perspectives when there are going to be so many different types of FromSoftware gamers playing this game.
You can use multiple golden tunes by pressing use selected
I'm afraid that it's only for experienced FromSoftware gamers, as I'm not familiar with any systems of the game at all. The simple lack of missing explanations makes me hesitate to buy this game, especially since FromSoftware games basically tell you nothing. Any tips? I wouldn't want to miss out just because of overwhelming amounts of information.
I stop watching Kinda Funny for a few months and I come back to Tim the Grey
