Elisabet’s scene with Travis hits a little differently when you factor in Tilda. Travis asks her “have you even had a friend?” not knowing the one person she could definitely consider as that has betrayed her like this. Gotta say this was one of the best sequels I think I’ve ever played! Guerrilla Games did such an amazing job building upon nearly every aspect of the original title, and yet still making feel like it was the same world. It’s clear they understood what worked in the original, and what needed to be improved. Before it’s release I thought it would be difficult to make a story as captivating as the original, but I think they knocked it out of the park! Also I get that every open game is hit with the “BotW let us climb anything” but it doesn’t work in all titles at least for the time being, Aloy doing the itsy-bitsy-spider animation Link did when climbing would be weird. I was kinda worried at first because even though I knew the game was going to look amazing and that the gameplay would be better in many areas I was scared of what the story was gonna be. For many people the core of what made the story engaging in the first game was discovering what had happened to the Old Ones, us. How the world of Horizon came to be, how did Aloy came to be?
With all these answers given there wasn't anything left to discover but it didn't matter. After understanding the world of Horizon what was left was to love it, it's tribes, characters, machines and I will always be happy to heal it... Just a little bit.
When people kept theorising that the Odyssey didn't really fail I remember not believing it until someone pointed out it's name: The Odyssey. Which is I think the story of Ulysse taking so much time coming back home he was thought dead. I love the way Guerilla plays with the symbolism of the names in this game.
Before getting and finishing the game I avoided every spoiler that could ruin my experience (other than trailers) and I fricking loved the story of the whealthiest humans leaving Earth to die and even after they became literally immortals they still tried to go further into innovation. Humanity greatest and worst trait imo, close to the limitless empathy and cruelty we are able to have. Humans are the greatest and worst being to have ever lived and we always create our own demise. But as long as there are people willingful, unstoppable even and with enough compassion to heal the world, we will prevail ^^

One of the favourite little details that made me laugh is that you can hear the crew have a conversation about how the Old Ones had a thing called "Pizza", and in some Tenakth villages you can buy something called "blood bread" which is described as "Prepared by layering a thin, flat piece of dough with a red sauce, cheese, and vegetables, this simple Lowland Tenakth meal is then quickly baked in a scalding hot oven". Pizza is eternal

Travis is asking Elisabet whether she's ever had a friend just minutes before we're given the first hint of her relationship with Tilda and it's entirely conceivable that she's dwelling on Tilda in the moment as Travis explicitly assaults Tilda's current project - which, while deepening them theme that we've been getting hammered in so far while equally undermining it at the same moment. And you don't notice it in the moment because you don't have any information to that effect.

Like having the chatacters move around, giving us different angles and shots, utlalizing the space, then they loop back to their original place when the dialouge wheel is promt back on. Also Faro named his bunker Thebes after the Egyptian city. Which makes sense as he is "Faro" (Pharoah, god-king among men) and all of his military robots have Egyptian names (Horus, Khopesh, Scarab). Just points even more to his hubris.

Not sure if this has been already brought up here in the comments, but Ted Faro’s bunker of Thebes is probably another reference to the overall Egyptian naming scheme attached to him. Faro sounding like Pharaoh, and the Faro Swarm machines having designations like Khopesh, Scarab, and Horus. On top of that, the city of Thebes in Egypt also contains or at least is right next to a famous tomb complex where many Pharaohs were buried.

I'm with you. I loved this game and think it added lots to the mythology of the first and definitely improved on gameplay.
One think I noticed and thought it was a great inclusion, especially with the themes of friendship and none isolation throughout the game was in the first game a lot os the fight scenes, Aloy was alone and battling all the machines herself, but in FW most of the fights, whether main or side quests had another person helping out (even if they didn't do much).
The only negative I would point out is that they did Tallanah dirty. Only having one quest with her and it centring around a love interest after introducing her as such a strong character in the first game. TBH I would have expected her to be one of the main characters at the base helping out along with Erend and Varl but they decided to side line her for new characters that I didn't care for as much. Especially as in the interacts with the other characters Tallanah seems to be the only person Aloy truly felt relaxed with. Interactions with Erend and Varl, at least at the beginning of the game, always seem a little stilted as she is aware of the hero worship and feeling they have for her. With Tallanah she seems relaxed and willing accepted and returned a hug, I'd have liked that for Aloy throughout the game. I hope it was just that the actress not being available because of other projects and we get more of Tallanah in the next game.

I absolutely love this game, but I never felt like it got the chance to truly shine. For example: when the first game came out it was around the same time breath of the wilds was released. So it was either compared to or considered not as a good even though the story was amazing and had a ton of new elements, it still was never given a fair shot. And it got worse with the sequel since it was released around the same time as elden ring, which don't get me wrong does look cool and I respect it. but for those who don't know, elden ring fans purposely bashed the game online. This is not me hating on elden ring fans, but it is just a shame some people in the community (not all) felt like they had to send negative reviews on it just because it was coming out around the same time as horizon forbidden west. To bad we didn't have an doom eternal and animal crossing between the communities. But besides all of that, everything about this game is just outstanding I just hope more than anything that this game is remembered and never forgotten.

I saw an article from some writers at Kotaku complaining about the ending for FW, and I realized something.
When Tilda claimed that it was Nemesis that sent the signal that triggered the story, I believe it was a lie to get Aloy to join Tilda. Nemesis had no reason to target Earth as it was the Zeniths' hubris that caused it to ascend. Tilda is a known manipulator and keeper of secrets. Lying to Aloy that her foe is unbeatable so that Aloy will give up shows why Tilda and Elizabet never worked out.
Elizabet sacrificed her life for the Alphas, even though their work was done. And that level of sacrifice is alien to Tilda. While she loved her, Tilda never understood that Elizabet never chose to enact Zero Dawn to reboot the world, she just knew that nobody else would endure the guilt she would feel every day, knowing EVERYTHING about the truth. The false hope given to the civilians who fought a hopeless battle thinking Zero Dawn would save the world. Elizabet knew the truth, the cost of every civilian expecting salvation not realizing they were doomed.
So Tilda offering Aloy a way out shows that Tilda never comprehended such a selfless burden. She hoped that since Elizabet is lesbian/bi, that she would fall for Tilda like Elizabet once did. When Tilda never understood why Elizabet pulled away was likely her recognizing the 'Zenith trait'. Tilda would never let Elizabet sacrifice herself to save the world. Which is why she wanted Aloy to leave with her, forgetting that Elizabet rejected her.

I don't remember where I saw this but it was explained somewhere that Nemesis sent the signal to wake Hades and destroy life on Earth because it knew the Zeniths would try to flee there. Without mentioning that Nemesis hates all humans, it doesn't seem to make exceptions. I even think he is the reason the other subfonctions became sentient aswell. The signal was sent to Hades but what if Nemesis also meant to free the other AIs, making them conscious to free them from human's slavery?

    • @ArcaneSorceror
      @ArcaneSorceror 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@shydreameress264 Yeah, that kinda ruins the story flow for me, it was already explained to have been done by Zeniths, so for them to 'lulz, just kidding' it was this totally not going to end up replace Hades threat instead is just lazy writing.
We have one reason that is explained within the lore, then to just change it is Bethesda level of lazy writing. I mean Zeniths are immortal with their tech advancement, why are they so scared of this malignant AI... which is somehow flying through space... Wow, this is a really stupid ending... Maybe Kotaku is right?

It wasnt big or as prevalent as it could have been, but i like that there is lgbt representation with the trans tenakth warrior and the quen navigatior who wanted to get home go her wife, the non binary person mentioned in one of the vault recordings in the base, and the confirmation of elisabet being queer and having had a relationship with another women and Alva having a romantic interest back in her homeland thats a women really made me happy to see
Another thing i really liked that was optional was the vault in the base, the code to the door is a bit tedious to figure out but i like how you expect there to be some big reward for opening the door, but instead its recordings of these people apart of Zero Dawn saying goodbye, its not a weapon, armor, or resources, but its a treasure of a sort to hear their goodbyes that they had previously never been able to make.
Ok im actually going to keep going on things i like. I loved the culture of the Utaru, of life and death, and how the old world music scale of Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do plays such an important part for them as each note represents a land god, non aggressive machines that for decades have been important benefactors to the Utaru. I like how the tribe is looked scornfully upon by many for being farmers and weak, and how it shows us just how strong the Utaru really are, from Zo being kind and compassionate but able to beat the shit out of people, to the Utaru who fought even though they werent fighters, and the former tenakth who gained a heavy respect and love for the Utaru that became his people over years of being with them because he was able to love his past but appreciate and love his present and future. I liked the seed pouches that each Utaru carried with them so that when they died, they could return and give back to the earth, to not only become a part of it, but to continue to help the Utaru even after death. I found it so touching that Zo buried a seed pouch for Varl.
I liked how each time you came back to the base there was more and more things in it, transforming it into an actual home and not just a barren place for rest, turning it into something that showed an aspect of each character, like the piece of the bulwark from Kotallo, the plants from Zo, the ale and strike board from Erend.
I liked how after he died, you have the option to sit with varl, made me tear up a bit.
I liked the additional optional activities you could do outside of quests, like strike games, the fighting rings, and racing.
Maybe its that i got more used to the game, but i felt like it was easier to face machines and human enemies in full frontal combat instead of relying on stealth
I actually liked that human enemies were harder to kill, with a lot of them wearing armor that made it harder to one shot snipe them from cover, made it feel more challenging
I found the culture of the tenakth extremely interesting, from their ideals, to their conflicts, to their hair, to their body paint and tattoos, i thought it was all so awesome. I loved that you could buy and equip different face paints as you unlocked them.
I liked the detail of different animals in different climates.
I liked how aloy had to gain respect again like in zero dawn, but this time her respect from the tenakth come largely from her combat victories, because the tenakth highly value strength and combat.
I liked that Tilda likely was so obsessed with aloy because she likely pondered and thought about Elizabet constantly, regretting not taking her with. I think it likely drove her somewhat mad especially with her only company being a mass of asshole rich people, the idea of having any version or notion of Elizabet back was likely intoxicating for her.
One of the things i didnt like however, was that the hair for the black characters didnt feel very diverse or fitting to what i have seen of black hair. For example, Hekarros hair from what i saw was straight and silky, which from what i know as a white person isnt very common in the black community. I feel like it would have made more sense for him to have dreads or braids. Especially since we have seen characters with braids, or even black characters like Zo with hair that more closely resembles black hair, or even with Kotallo, cause it looked like he might have had dreads. I also wish i had gotten to see curly hair or a character with an afro, or any black hair style. Again, i am a white person so im not really knowledgeable on black hair, it just seems like they didnt do much to represent what ive seen of black hair and it feels strange that with a pretty diverse casting of NPCs that they didnt do more to properly portray the beauty of black hair types.

Only got 2 major gripes with the game after having finished the story:
    1. Shield-weaver got nerfed into the ground man...
    2. Weapon Wheel got too cluttered, either revert to 4 weapons or take ammo selection out of the wheel.
There's still hope though, DLC is on the way.
Edit: DLC was PS5 and from what I've heard none of the above got changed. Well shit...

I’m suprised you didn’t go over the Cook in Chainscrape. That guy made me smile and tear up a little; such pure soul trying to get revenge.
PS: (37:40) You do make a difference in my life. Thanks.

PS4 version has a few issues. Long loads from fast travels, rather humorous visual glitches such as a bridge not rendering at all until I was in the middle of it, some audio glitches with random sounds cutting in and out. Other than that, it was fine for me.

Thank you, for this masterfull video. Its wonderful to see someone who loves and appreciates this game as much as I do, from Aloys arc, to the beautiful soundtrack, and immersive gameplay... this game is stunning. There are so many valuable lessons we can learn from the themes, it's truly beautiful.

The biggest win is really you wearing or using the look of the Carja Blazon armor throughout most of the game. Hands down one of the best armors aesthetically. Just chef kiss. Of course, this whole video is chef kiss too!
