- Modern Yu-Gi-Oh has Synchro, Xyz, Ritual, Fusion...the list goes on. Where the Yu-Gi-Boomer laments the amount of summoning conditions, the YGO TCG has a few exceedingly rare conditions in which special summons can be made.
Can't wait for yugioh to become fully automatic when your entire deck can be used at all times
they should just skip the option of doing combos, let you place the cards you want to summon on the board, put what would've gotten you there in the GY and call it a day. Would save so much time tbh.

If it DID work like that, this game would be WORSE than that because there would be even LESS interaction with the opponent, let alone your own cards. You're just asking for the game to be King Crimson and that won't work.

When hand traps are no longer needed, the days of the Deck Traps
What I find even funnier is that we have yet to get archetypes for tribute set and negative equip cards (entirely negative, like reverse noble knights).

@lordgrub12345 that's not negative. Negative is using equip cards to do things like negate your opponent's monster effects and lower their stats. Mikanko buffs the opponent and takes advantage of it.

I think Special Summoning from the deck can be cool if it's not generic. Like how the Familiars require you to play the Charmers. It wouldn't be too different to how the Chimeratechs or Thunder Dragon Colossus are summoned from the Extra.

Colossus-style makes Summoning from deck redundent because people don't want to draw a NOMI Garnet. I think a lot of GX-era cards would have worked better if the NOMI boss MOnsters were summonable from the Extra deck. Imagine if LV had the higher levels in the extra?
If you dont think colossus is generic you havent seen someone overlay two level 7 monsters into the funny xyz that goes +15

The earth familiar is especially good for certain cheesy combos like in adamancipator pre block dragon and smoke grenade ban

Was actually top tier playable in the ocg and for a short stint in master duel in adamancipator, where it would ss from deck and revive analyzer to make the level 9 power tool for smoke grenade handrips!
You could even link him off and baronne tag into him instandby for 2 targeted handrips...

I have been playing the nefariouser archfiend in a janky spyral list recently to make Quinquery to summon artifact Mjolnir to my opponents board. pretty fun
I was going to mention the pets too. The Awakening of the Possessed monsters all share the deck SS ability and they can all be fairly easily abused in the right deck. With all the Fire support recently and more coming I will be playing around with Hiita and Greater Inari for some fun.

You forgot about the Awakening of the possessed monsters who also inherently summon themselves from the deck. One of which is currently used in an ftk with volcanics (Greater Inari Fire) it's special summons from the deck burns your opponent for up to a few thousand then gets linked off as part of the combo which automatically gives you spiritual fire art to kill them on their draw phase.😅
yeah, i was gonna say that they were pretty generic and easy to summon just not super useful cause the spells and traps they search arent great.

The Possessed Awakening trap is actually pretty good especially if you're getting archfiend off Ascator Dawnwalker (which enables an 8 synchro with a pop in tow off a special summon + discard). Used in Magiustus decks, that could lead to their primary boss monster or Savage dragon, cheating a link Artemis to the GY by way of equip.

@hyperlink6547 the spells and traps are very helpful. The deck is just very held back by the clusterfuck of monsters they have and the main ones are just vanilla beaters
2:17 Serpentine Princess sounds like it has legit potential if there ever is a good card or archetypes that return your own cards to the deck in exchange of big benefits.

Power creep tends to work both ways, if people are able to build boards from a 0 card combo, just, before the duel starts, pick up their entire deck and declare yourself the victor (if they call a judge, simply render them both unconscious with a sedative such as Chloroform)

I notice that so,e of the “summon from your deck” effects specify that you shuffle the deck afterwards, and others don’t
This implies that you can use these effects to see what cards you will draw and in what order, which would be very broken

Awakening of the Possessed cards also can be summoned from deck, with a much more generic restriction being a spell caster and a monster of an appropriate attribute.
Awakening of the Possessed - Nefariouser Archfiend was the best one, being able to reborn any lvl 4 or lower from grave. While the summon condition was a spellcaster + earth monster. It was used in adamancipator as a lvl 5 for bish ftk but also as a lvl 5 for power tool braver to hand loop the opponent.
I forgot that the Metal counterparts have to be summoned from the deck. I thought they were supposed to be special summoned from the hand. 😅

Honestly, i would love a revamp for the Metalmorph play, adding equip spells that treat them a metalmorph and some wacky cards that give effect of field to metal monsters, and such new metal forms like metalblue-eyes, metalthounsand eyes dragon, etc with newest effects and stuff, like they do with Mementos of giving old monsters a revamp.

So they should make huge remake and maybe archtype for that
Metalzoa and the metal dragon should just have an effect that lets them equip metalmorph from your graveyard when summoned. Or just add the metalmorph effect to them.

Recently found the channel and went through a quick binge and honestly, these types of videos may be the exact thing which was lacking in the sea of constant duel replays and occasional drama. Interesting topics about the game which can be watched by anyone without expecting you to know most of the mechanics nor repeating tired out points or jokes.
Greater Inari Fire is playable in volcanic btw! Same with the water one in ice barrier once they get the new support!

@@dotvee at least it is in synchro morphtronics. A big-ish issue with the deck is that you lack non-tuner levels to synchro. Telefon is a 1, Celfon is a 1 (non tuner), Smartfon is a 1 (tuner).
Nefariouser archfiend ends up just being a free special by setting up 2 telefon, linking one into Relinquished Anima and then specialing it. It can even get back either Earfon (the lvl 4 synchro) or Staplen (preferred maindeck lv 4 non-tuner) for more stars

I actually know of these but sadly they are not competitive but I'm also damn glad they aren't. It would just add another complexity to the deck and another barrier to entry after you get past the initial state of excitement

Reminds me of a comment I left somewhere that went along the lines of: "eventually we'll just get a King of Games archetype where every card just has normal names but says they count as that archetype, and they can call 1/turn (but not 1/name) tribute themselves as cost spell speed 2 omni-negate to float into another KoG card from the deck." I was so close with those new Yugi monsters that were announced to come out that are just regular Yugi monsters but all the effects involve "monsters that mention [card]." Soon...
If they made one good non-splashable archetype that could do this, it would be really cool but it would be terrible if we just got a ton of good generic cards that can do this.

One thing that isnt mentioned is how fucked up these are to play in paper. You litteraly just randomly start looking at your deck while your opponent is just wondering if you are cheating.
Dude you're giving me flashbacks to when I ran malefic Red-eyes in dlink and I had a mini heart attack every time I had to summon him.
I was like, "Wait charmers have effects?" after using a Possessed-Village control deck after a year.
Charmers + Secret village = fun (for you) You can also be brutal by using Royal decree so opponent cannot use spell/trap. But I prefer Skill drain because... Why not? Their trap gives you +800 damage per element on your field
And I actually knew about this since I bought the Charmer Structure Deck as well as being a fan of weird mechanics. This channel seems fun though so I'll check out what more you got in store as I'm new here

As someone who came over from fucking D-Spirits of all games, which has quite a few Spirits that can SS from deck, I was surprised this wasn't more common in YGO.
Commenting before I watch, the only ones I know of are the charmers and the metalmorph zoa / red eyes. Excited to see what else there is
I mean there’s also the Awakening of the Possessed (charmer familiars) that don’t need charmers main decked. The water one especially potent in a water deck cause you can link summon eria, send for cost to ss from deck. Hand rip 1, then send it to grave however you want to search the Water Art for another hand rip

I'm still waiting for an archetype, that has something to do with "crocked" ATK/DEF numbers ...
Normally the ATK and DEF are in 100 steps ... 1400 ATK, 2000 DEF; 3000 ATK, 1500 DEF; etc. ... and then you have random ass cards, like King of Yamimakai with 1530 DEF ... or Sword Arm of Dragon with 1750 ATK and 2030 DEF ... Dark Chimera with 1610 ATK and 1460 DEF ... Barox with 1380ATK and 1530 DEF etc. ...
I want an archetype, where all the archetype monsters have those weird numbers and all the support cards deal with cards having "crocked" ATK and/or DEF numbers xD

Side engines like nimble are good for decks like spright runick, as they are free bodies and allow you to extend into 3200 giant spright. I’d recommend hero kid too

i like to view old school OTK decks. first time i saw one of those Familiar monsters that can come from the deck, it was used for an Angel of Mischief combo
The familiar fire one, wich is a new release actually sees play in volcanic burn
Though it pulls from hand, graveyard, and deck, rather than just the subject of the video, I like summoning from deck the most with Giant Ballpark. The normal insect monsters are worth it to spring three cards from nowhere after your opponent thought they were going to deal direct damage to you or take out a decent attack position monster without consequence.
Of course, it is not competitively viable, but I have fun with it. And that is the only thing that matters to me.
Shiny Black "C" is a great target. As well as the Gokibore. I run these two because Gokibore is like the lowest atk level 4 normal insect (There is one more I believe but Gokibore is R) and Gokipole is a thing.
Tbh starter cards and traps that can be activated from the deck are an interesting idea since it takes the frustration out of bad hands / "not drawing the out"
I wanted to see Assault Mode cards mentioned but I forgot they are summoned by the spell/trap of the archetype and not the monsters summoning themselves like what's mentioned here
problem with "inherent summon from deck" cards can be if they are are bricks when you draw them why would you ever want them over ED monster
I wouldn't say that these cards are relics of their time (with Charmers being the exception, since the new cards are legacy support clearly just keeping the existing mechanics), just that they have no reason to be printed anymore. Extra deck monsters with special summoning conditions are literally the same thing, you just aren't at risk of drawing them, and for the specific cases like Dark Sage and the Metalmorph monsters, that would be printed on one of the cards they needed to be summoned. The only reason they were made the way they were was that Konami couldn't and wouldn't want to go back and add "If the effect of "Time Wizard" resolves and you called the coin toss correctly: You can tribute this card; Special Summon 1 "Dark Sage" from your Deck" to Dark Magician.
This is weird how you leave out the literal four cards who are actually decent at summoning from deck, all the charmer lvl5 familiars. Archfiend specifically gets the revive to give the mats back and is traditionally a pretty way to get a bonus S/T search on top of a synchro 8 play, while the wind in particular and water on occasion has seen some plays in Windwitch and Mermail? Abyss? for a short amount of time. Which yes, not the high level of play of rogue options but... they're definitely the most noticeable deck summons.
I guess we could give Main Deck summons the Ursarctic treatment if it ever becomes an actual strategy someday.

Yeah the special from the deck cards were just the upgraded versions of other card the prototype for assault mode for synchros
It's not a question of if it's gonna happen but when
I think it could be interesting to have a card that special summons from the deck but if you do so you can only normal/special summon up to three other monsters that turn. But if you do all three the original monster is destroyed and one other monster on your field gets banished.
It would provide good utilities with a cost. They'd obviously have to make it do some other positives for it to see some play. But it could be interesting.

In theory, it would be worse than special summoning from the extra deck because they could brick in the hand.
Imagine a 0 card combo starter... special summon from the deck by banishing/sending to the graveyard other materials from the deck or hand... The birth of a combo deck that can bring out a 6 omni negate board regardless of starting hand... Heck... WITHOUT a starting hand.
Mystic moon could have been given an effect that let's you destroy it to have all water monsters currently on the field lose 500-1000 atk to make it more accurate to the anime, and dark sage could have been made more accurate (and somewhat useful) if it let you activate spells from your hand, deck or gy during either players turn at speed 4. (or at the very least made it a fusion like thousand dragon...)
The metalmorph idea could be revisited at some point.

I was pretty interested in the Great Sphinx because it was the main card I remember pulling from the packs back when it was new and i was a kid.
There are some decks that make use of them back a year ago when master duel was starting.
imagine konami devs decided to buff charmer or release new archetype that can summon from deck. monsters that can do nasty things quick effect: like pop, loop, spin, flip etc. and when the effects resolve successfully it can summon another one from deck that does another something. it also doesn't need searcher because each card searches each other and when it gets destroyed all cards has an inherent effect that recycle itselft back to the deck. has a link boss monster that can set quick play spell and traps like turbulence and has a trap or spell that can summon monster to start combo during opponent's turn.
you forgot the spirit charmers helper monsters with lv 5.
Im just hoping for an "unexpected Dai" like spell you can activate from your deck as long as you control no effect monsters.
Since we've been getting arctype that can summon and active from hand on either turn, wonder if we will ever get card that can do the same but from deck.

Then Mahado began to use reincarnation, then Summoned Skull...
I always wished konami made different modes of the main deck monsters (such as Dark Sage, RE Black Metal Dragon, Ra's different modes etc...) as a different type of card that players summon from extra deck.
Nefarious was key to an ftk in shs format earlier this year
You mention the Charmers, but not the Awakening of the Possessed - Familiar which are better version of them, being more generic, having a good on summon effect and searching the corresponding Spiritual Attribute Art card when they hit the graveyard; at one point the (at the time) best version of Mermails was probably the one that ran this Gagigobyte.
Also thinking of Arise Heart instead of Zoodiacs when talking about 1 card xyz is a byproduct of Master Duel, and that's why Master Duel is the death of Yugioh
There is a trap card yugi has where you can summon a monster from the deck it's in the tcg i think it's called soul rope
i know ariseheart is the more fashionable example for xyz-ing with 1 material nowadays, but i am still peeved for not going for zoodiacs

Hey, I actually like Charmers and have tried my hardest to make them work, and if not for about, 50% of the 11k cards being "balanced" they could have been decent or even good.
Same. I've been updating my deck for years with different engines and techs but I can't stick to one that's more consistent. I really hope they get more and better supports someday and aren't too generic.

I think you forgot about the Awakening of the Possessed monsters that can summon themselves from deck. As a Charmer player, my day is immeasurable and my disappointment is ruined.
Got to have at least one ritual monster that can summon itself from the deck pleaaase, even the best ritual decks atm require at least 2 cards in hand and even that has big restrictions

It really should give rise to the next Yugioh Summon and mechanic directly from deck when needs are met I still say card should be red

I never thought people knew about this.
I've put a bunch of "When sent to graveyard/discarded from deck, etc" monsters with some Magical Merchants and whatever searches Magical Merchants in a deck (also a single Jackpot) to summon Lightsworn Wulfs among other things sort of from the deck on Magical Merchant's flip :D It's a really stupid deck :D
Charmer and Familiar have the same Special Summoning effect but It needs More Support to make them more Viable.

Thx for the idea. Now, I want to make an archetype whose entire gimmick is inherent summons from Deck. (I'd have to either xenoloxk them from the extra deck or give them a card with the Monarchs erupt restriction of 0 ED cards.) Maybe make it a pend archetype where you can pend from Deck? (Again, keeping a xenolock in mind.)

I once thought of making a custom archetype that physically could not brick, but would have a low af power ceiling.
So, I did that once. What I did are Ritual Monsters that are always treated as synchro monsters that could be synchro summoned from the main deck. They had benefits however they were summoned, while the materials helped you swarm to synchro, and trigger if tributed for a ritual summon.
@@theermac6024 This looks like a ruling nightmare, unless you give all your Tuners the effect to summon the Rituals. Treating Rituals in the Deck as Synchro monsters seems way too game breaking.
