Awww Katie dariln' please don't apologies for who you are or what you do. No one else can make you happy. No one else pays your dues. How you live life is no one's business but your own. If they don't like it they don't have to watch. Who you are is why so many of us watch your channel. We love your style.

    Dearest Kate,
I am so blessed I have found your channel. I have learned so much from you. I have silently been watching and finally subscribed to the channel. For the last 3 weeks, my children and I have been binge watching all your old videos. This weekend we watched the series you did on “mom’s quilts.” I don’t think I have cried as much as I did watching it. What a beautiful legacy your mom left for you!! What a beautiful job you did finishing her work. They were all simply stunning!! ❤ My name is Misty Dutton and I am the momma of 12 kids, for the state of Ohio in the United States. 11 girls 1 boy. I see a lot of myself in you. I love seeing you excited about a project! I get the same way! Anyway sorry for the long post, just wanted to say I love your channel and all the great things you are doing! You are such a blessing to us all. I hope you have a blessed week. We will be in touch soon. Blessings from Ohio❤

Your style of working does NOT drive me around the bend. Rather it relaxes me to think that someone else works like I do and I don’t need to feel that I’m doing it wrong. Thank you for that Kate.

I like that...."I can do it, I know I can." I had to change a flat tire on my car. First time with this car. The tire is up under the back end, and I had never had to change one like that. It defeated me for a while, but then I just decided, that I could do it, so armed with the not so easy instruction manual, I persevered, and changed the tire! The tire man couldn't believe I did it by myself.

It’s now some time later and I hope you don’t mind a new comment to say thanks. I find myself in a big house and having saved lots and lots of fabrics over many decades: favorite dresses that got a rip or a stain, old family linens with fabulous monograms (victims of moths in spots), childhood favorites, and on and on. I love your clear explanations and your conversational tone. Xx

I hadn’t realised how much the curtain lining colour influences the whole effect. I just thought that particular curtain had many more green fabrics in it.

Oh this is the way I work too. I am currently making a crocheted doily for my mother-in-law, need to get back to working on a Lost Souls shawl for a friend, have several bags on standby, and have been making Dresden plate blocks for one quilt, hexies for another, and just finished designing a quilt for my daughter and her husband (haha, we're never finished designing until it's all stitched together!).
UFOs are a crafter's way of planning to live forever, hehehe.

I admire those of you that can keep several projects going. I used to try, but ended up not getting them done when I had hoped, if at all, when our girls were young, and I was working.
So, I just ditched some hobbies, and mainly do papercrafting and quilting/sewing. Finished my last cross stitch kit last summer. I put my papercrafting away for awhile, since boxes of fabric scraps were haunting me. I've wanted to try EPP, since I have a machine now that will cut the hexagons quickly. I am arranging the hexies into diamond motifs, some with 4 (2 different fabrics), and some with 9 that have a center surrounded by a different fabric. Just letting my scraps tell me what to do. I just cut them into 2 1/2" squares, and wrap each cardstock hexie, basting on the back. No trimming into hexagons shapes at all. I'm not even planning on removing the basting. I can pop out the cardstock hexies easily since I punched holes in the centers to insert my blunt scissors and just pull them out.☺️
I am also repairing a quilt for our daughter and SIL. I hope to have that nearly finished by the time I go for ten days to pet/house sit while they are on their longer vacation. I will take my extra scraps I had leftover from making the quilt 16 years ago. It has seen a lot of loving, and a lot of laundering.😊 Both that, and my hexie project will go with me, and I hope to be able to leave the fully repaired quilt when I come back home.😊

Oooooooh…I so ‘get’ your way of working because I do just the same. Book binding (simple books) art making, knitting, crocheting, playing with paint and paper, gardening, sewing, quilting…so many things and each day I do just what I feel like! I don’t think we should ever have to explain the way we live. Norm and I live in a 75 square metre granny flat and I have stuff in on and under every space! I love books and they provide awesome insulation!! I used to apologise until I realised it’s our wee palace and we live in it just the way we like it…clutter and all!
Thank you for all your ideas. I love your curtains and they reminded me of the small squares I cut out years ago. They are now being made into a tablecloth for one of our outdoor tables.
Happy days to you and yours.

I've learned that there are a few ways to call your scraps. Anything under 10 inches square and under is called cabbage. And I decided that strips and small squares must be coleslaw! Coleslaw can be used to stuff pillows or 🧸! In other words, a cat cushion can be made with cabbage and stuffed with coleslaw.

In the past, I always forced myself to finish one project before I started a new one. Then I started to look at needlework channels, specifically crocheting and knitting and I learned the delightful terms wip- work in project and ufo-unfinished object. These terms let me give myself permission to have more than one project going at a time. Its so freeing. So, I understand the fact that you have multiple irons in the fire.

I like phd (project half done).
“So, what are you up to at the moment?”
“Oh” (carelessly) “just working on my PhD.” 😁
Carelessly. Carelessly. Have I spelt that right? The more I look at it the more odd it seems but the dictator is spelling it exactly the same as I did.
Is it like doing lines at school? After a while all the words look wrong and you find yourself seriously asking someone “how do you spell ‘the’ “.

I have several projects going too, even finish most to gift to family at Christmas and birthdays. So NO to any guilt trips! Maybe it just takes a very intelligent person to keep up with them all! I will claim that bit of wisdom and pass it on to you as well. Thanks for the inspiration,Kate!

I have had this comment from someone in the past as well. While it wasn't my mother, it still got to me. But I too love the process of so many things, so finishing them is lovely, but like losing am old friend! The only thing that stresses my making mind out is if I have to do something on a timetable. It actually makes me take longer to finish these things ad they have a negative connotation to them then and I don't enjoy the making process. I've learned with my grandchildren to make things a lot larger so I don't have to get stressed it's not going too for them by the time I finish. My kids are getting used to how I work now they are adults! Enjoy your makes!

It's so refreshing to come across another slow-stitcher! So many people who are drawn to quilting are very, hmmm.....type A personality lol. I'm like you and more of a type B I suppose. Because I'm a newbie quilter I am prone to feeling a bit of imposter syndrome because I don't work like the majority of quilters do. Your leisurely habit of doing the big projects is really so relaxing and a joy to participate in. Makes for good viewing :) As you often remind us, these are not tutorials that viewers can watch in 27 minutes and know how to do a quilt. It's a delight to make the quilt/curtain/jacket/sweater with you, over real time. I'm spinning new wool for a jumper right now, just beginning. There is joy in the long process, and more reward.

Like you, I have many things "in the works" at any given time. Kudos to you that on top of everything else you create, you find time to do videos for You Tube. I find I tell fewer and fewer people what I am doing as they don't seem to "get it". I asked one of my neighbors what she did for a hobby and she said "nothing". maybe watched an occasional thing on the TV. I take care of my husband who is ill and in a wheelchair. I love to cook and try new recipes, I sew (clothing, toys, quilts and small quilted projects) , I knit, crochet, needlepoint, embroider, cross stitch, refinish furniture, upholster, paint (acrylics and watercolors), keep house, shop, lots of gardening (I am currently hardscaping a walking path around the house and garden)...but I am never ever bored. So you just keep up what you're doing and enjoy your life. I understand completely.

YES! Never feel bad about cutting off a video you don‘t enjoy, or possibly just aren‘t in the right headspace for. Either save it for later, or skip ahead until the last seconds and let it finish (it‘s important for the algorithm… aka determines whether the specific creator is recommended to others). =)

I do lots of different project along with each other: I‘ve three or for knitting projects on the go, a quilting project, two cross-stitch pillows, spinning, sketching, to name just the more active ones. That way I can put down a project that bores me and work on something else. Your wonderful curtains actually got me to use the postage stamp for seat cushions for our garden chairs. I‘m hand-quilting those right now.
Happy sewing an painting and IKEA-building to remodel that sunny corner of your house, dear Kate!

I've really enjoyed today's video. Your earlier videos explaining the postage stamp blocks have always been in the back of my mind to get on with it. Just thinking of how long it will take me to do three walls of windows mentally defeats me before I even start. A lot of my ideas get stopped with this thinking.
I want to thank you, Kate, for your message that the steps along the way towards the final project do not need to be rushed. It's also lovely how you just dive into so many different projects with the same mindset of 'enjoying the journey' and not racing to the finish line. ❤

Thanks for telling us how you do the curtain blocks. I've been admiring them so much, as you move around the room. I'm glad you showed us the lining and the way you've hung them. I'm curious as well small footprint. I'll admit, I was lazy & didn't trust my sewing to match up the seams, so I had marked my iron on lightweight interfacing & pregridded my squares & just randomly grabbed a square fabric & ironed them onto the interfacing.

Kate, you are so much like me, I too have many projects on the go at once, I do quickie projects but most of them take time. I love the color pink. I should paint my kitchen pink. My class room was pink and no one liked it but me. I loved going to work in it. My bedroom curtains are half square triangles that was a quilt top that never was finished. I love them. I am going to be making my living room curtains the same or maybe the squares. I have been looking for curtains for here but I do not like any of the factory made ones. I am going to be painting my chairs and creating pillows for them. I am retired and have nothing but time. I have even made socks. I wish my husband was with me still he would have love the old me come back. I was creative as a young wife/ mother then work took my time. Thank you for all the inspirations. Love and Blessings

Hello Kate. Just finished watching your postage stamp quilt. Knowing how much you enjoy your birds in the garden, I have a tip for you to help birds in general, make their nests. I keep an empty tissue box by my machine and when I cut stray pieces of thread, I just keep them on the box. Come spring time I set the box on my patio and watch the birds land and pick pieces of thread for their nests. Love watching you show. Keep up the good work. I love your videos and your friendly manner. It's like visiting an old friend every week. I just finished a birthday quilt for a 5-year-old, a bookcase quilt for Father's Day, and a quilt for my son's wedding. I thought I was finished with multiple projects and could finally make a quilt for myself, but at the wedding, my new step-grandson asked for a quilt, as well as another member of my family (birthday in August), and two days later, we learned there will be another wedding in the family, and my son-in-law saw the pattern I was making for myself and asked for a quilt like it. I have also started two Hanten jackets, a light one for summer and a quilted one for winter. No matter if we do one project at a time or start several so we don't get bored, there is no such thing as "down time" for us crafty people. We need to be inspired and busy. LOL (Kathy, from Georgia, USA)
