    • @Dankturboz

Rhd cars aren’t that inconvenient. For the price diff they’re usually worth the very minor inconvenience. 90s jdm stuff also usually has reasonable visibility and is on the smaller side so placing the car is still easy af. Source: own a rhd mr2

I remember before the MK4 price jump you could still source a RHD Mk4 from Japan for around 19-23k for an NA and 25-30k for a TT, Compared to spending atleast 40k- 50k in the US. So I understand that logic. But going out of your way to own a RHD when you could own a LHD for a couple thousand more is dumb as fuck.

    • @Dankturboz
      @Dankturboz ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@Qaasim830 it’s not just that. It’s not just a few thousand more, it’s a few thousand more and in significantly worse condition. I got my sw20 mostly stock with cool jdm market options(and the better jdm tune), low mileage, and rust free for the price of a significantly worse condition USDM spec model. Plus it’s a cool different perspective being on the other side of the car. In most cases it makes zero difference to driveability and gets you a much better car than going the lhd route. It’s cheaper because people imagine all these ways it’s gonna be inconvenient to have but the truth is it’s no more inconvenient than any 30 year old sports car is going to be

  • @meatticus992

LHD FDs are more expensive because of the lower production numbers, you can import RHD FDs straight from auction for a decent price nowadays but LHD are in higher demand simply because they’re LHD and less made. The later 96-98 and 99-02 spec RHD FDs made more power than USDM FDs and got more options stock. I just imported a 1996 RX7 Type RS for $25k low miles. FDs are going to continue to go up in price over time either way tho.

@@warrio961 I'm a little biased with my first comment, but I got my 1996 Type RS with 70k miles for $25k shipped and no issues thus far. It was auction grade 4. The 1999 spec FDs are more expensive, but my 1996 came with 265 hp from factory so already more power than USDM and has the bigger 17" brake rotors and harder suspension. Clean RHD FD's can most definitely be found for a good price.

Ive owned 5 rx7, 3 different generations over the course of 25 years. I blew one engine do to using the wrong fuel on a higher tune. My car is well maintained and has been driving for many years and road trip, and cars and coffee. More people are finding out that its not so much of a reliability issue, but a human error issue. Mostly people that are ignorant have issues with any car on how to take care of it. I laugh at how people scoff at " awww it needs work". It a 1993 CAR!. Im glad the car prices are going up so it can land in the right hands, well outside of the mommy and daddy money. Hopefully many will read my comments. Dont let people on youtube channel tell you what is a good car or not especially when they dont have much skin in the game. Search for a good car what ever it may be. Its an older car, it will need work. Its fine. Ive been in the car community and active, in racing and small repairs for a long time and with different type of engines and cars. They all have they're issues.

it was a hobby of mine to check car listings, i used to buy paid car classified mags back before everyone had the internet. After i saw the supra jump from 15k-20k to 30k-40k i knew i had to jump save as much money possible before my dream car, the fd, was out of reach. Long story short i got something for pre-inflation price post inflation with like an extra 20k worth of mods (haltec, new pump, new turbo, rebuild and built block, ect), built for 600+ tuned for 345whp. and a spare 30k mile block.
NA rotary are as reliable as a 90s american car, but ppl like to beat the hell out of them and cry when it breaks.
170k mile FB, and 93k mile FD. Dont get scammed, but if you really want a FD go and get it.
I eat and sleep rotary, but its not worth 50k imo. But its really hard to beat something with superb handling and good power to weight with amazing styling. Only other cars i can say are on the same level are the NSX (you could never afford this car) and a R34 (sell your house and make sure they kept the reclining seats).

I think you guys generally hit the nail on the head. The only thing I'd add is that if you're going to buy a rotary-powered car, you should probably be planning on rebuilding the engine yourself. If not, you should probably have lots of money to throw at it. I love rotaries, but in the future, I want an FC with like 100k miles on it and just rebuild the 13b right away. The NA 13b's are very reliable if you know what you're doing. You start adding boost, and you can get yourself in trouble if you don't understand the engine.
EDIT: Netgear basically nailed it at 13:23

Calling it that is backwards, and here is why: these cars were put in animes because they were cool, not the other way around. The anime came out in 90s and the prices began to rise in 2015-2020. The real reason was the announcement of the Japanese government to quit making ICE vehicles in 2030. I’ve owned my FD since 2018. Completely stock, had a rebuild due to coolant seals going. Kept the car on stock twins, then went through another rebuild. Went single turbo with good supporting mods (AI, I-rotary seals, new housings/plates, AEM coils then R35 GTR coils, expensive NGK plugs, haltech, large streetport, etc.) Basically after 6 years of having rotary and doing everything I could to keep it alive, I decided to move on. It’s not enjoyable having a car that can decide to not work at any given time. Rotary die hards are in denial and probably have a working rotary because they drive it once a month (mind you I put 20k miles on my 2nd rebuild within 3 years). Its just one of those engines that you keep putting things into it and get nothing out of it. Not to mention they sound like crap. It’s a car you can brag about buying parts for and never actually use it. If people applaud you for having a working engine by doing x y z, then it’s not reliable to begin with. That’s why I’m J swapping and not looking back. Wake up!

Just want to comment on the sunroof- hardtops are more desirable and much more rare. Seemingly most people reviewing miss that anomaly.
If you analyze final sale prices, hardtops actually demand a fair chunk of change more than those with a sunroof.
Another phenom that seems to be overlooked is that USDM cars demand more money than an imported example (obvious but most people are remiss).
    The more you know.
Also, I've owned a low mileage unmolested hardtop base model for the past decade. So keep driving them prices up lol.
