    5.7 in general is a good motor. The crappy part about them is they come neutered from the factory. Simple Ported Intake Manifold, Headers and Exhaust, Drop in filter, and a tune and you got a nice setup. If you wanna get frisky, drop in a 3.09 gear with a tire and you straight

    • @SRTBOAT
      @SRTBOAT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Get a 6.1.
      The 5.7 is a balance between power and economy. None of the internal parts are performance oriented, so you gotta swap EVERYTHING out to make power. Heads, cam, headers, intake, etc. It's all gotta be upgraded for airflow.
      The 6.1 was designed to kick ass. Everything in that motor was made for airflow. The heads, cam, and intake manifold are excellent out of the box. It even comes with stock shorty headers. Mine is a 100% stock motor with a blower on it. It makes 5.5psi and 507whp. I gained over 150whp from less than 6 pounds of boost.
      A stock 5.7 will never see those gains from 5 pounds of boost. You'd be lucky to get 100hp from that cuz the airflow is so bad in the motor.

    the scat pack 392 was made to be a boost off of the original 5.7 380 HP product. It (392) does not do well with higher RPM (past 6200) applications.
    The best option that I saw was a 6.1L off of a early Jeep Grand Cherokee (2008-2010) SRT that had simply a blower and injectors on it - made 600/600 (HP/TQ) and couldn't keep transfer cases and transmissions since the original 5 speed trans they had on those was weak.....
    As some of the earlier commenters also said - the early hemi (before MDS) was basically crippled - it could make 500 HP stock with the correct programming however to make it more reliable and streetable they "detuned" it to the 350 levels that you saw in stock form. Also isn't it interesting that it only had a compression ratio of 9.6:1 stock (ASKING FOR BOOST)......

If you want to go NA and try to match the 6.4 in power, not so much. Unfortunately the 5.7 doesn't handle boost as well as others though. So if you want to go for 4-didgit HP numbers, you're going to have to build the shit out of your engine to get there without it blowing up.

    These 5.7 hemi engines are notorious for lifters seizing up due to oil starvation. Ultimately causing the camshaft lobes to have grooves in them. The reason for oil starvation is due to poor engineering by Dodge/Fiat. The camshaft sits to high inside the engine for oil to reach, especially during idle.

    I've been a fan of the 5.7 Hemis because the potential these motors have. 6.4 block is the same as the 5.7 block. The cylinder walls on a 5.7 are thick to produce a lot of power and especially if you want to forge the bottom end for stupid power. The 6.4 is alright if your keeping it N/A and just doing a step up cam upgrade with bolt ons but not good enough for boost. I'm curious though.. What does everyone think about the 6.1 Hemi? I thought there's good potential with the 6.1 Hemi too.
