I work at a CDJR dealership in GA. DO NOT under any circumstances buy a takeoff supercharger from a TRX. They are plagued with problems, we average at least one TRX a month with a bad blower.. No probs seen on Hellcat Chargers/Challengers or the Trackhawk and Durango.
The ceiling is super high with these 5.7L hemi's - you can go as fast as your wallet allows you. Which is great because not everyone in their trim can say that. The aftermarket option for the hemi is massive
@@RTLife that’s my hope! My big hold back is spend a lot of time in the summer towing our 5k lb trailer through the bc mountains with it. Does great, but obviously more stress and a lot of heat. Gotta find that balance
Just recently went with a Magnuson supercharger on mine with 6lb of boost. Have to keep it smog legal in my state. My guess that it's about 500 crank or so; haven't dyno'd yet. I do have a 6pd manual and one thing to note is if you are going this route, you will most likely need to upgrade the clutch. After a couple of pulls you can smell it burning. Then again my clutch is still the one I bought the car with 10 years ago 😊. The tune that comes with the kit will keep the car running, but I am certain that it's not optimum, and you can most likely net a bit more out of it with a proper aftermarket tune. While you're upgrading the clutch, if you decide to go the boosted route, I would suggest upgrading driveshaft as well. I feel like this is a little slept on. DSS one-piece aluminum driveshaft is about $1,000. And remember, don't forget to remove the restrictor orifice on the boost actuator valve 😉. You'll thank me later. Cheers 🍻
Get a McLeod RXT clutch, & you'll be golden. Going with an aluminum flywheel will also "free up" power by reducing the rotational mass. The stock 5.7L driveshaft is also a weak point that many over look. A 1-piece driveshaft is a good way to beef it up, as well as reduce weight & rotational mass. Either aluminum or CF is good for 1200 hrsprs. Prices vary depending on where you order from. The axles are another weak point on the 5.7L that's forgotten about, as I just blew one out 2 weeks ago. Upgrading to SRT axles is probably the cheapest option for this at around $1300 for the pair.
@@DJGRoc Yes I was looking at the RXT as the clutch material on that compared to RST would be able to handle more heat. @@MetalGearHead I current have the RST in my Chally. Went with it at the time as it was cheaper, & I was still more or less stock power. Not a bad clutch for daily stop & go driving. Basically same stuff as brake pads. The RXT is good for 800-1000 hrsprs if memory serves. Then you have the RXT 1200 which is obviously good for 1200+. I think it also becomes a triple disc clutch. The RST is really a street clutch, while the RXT is more of a race clutch. Since you have to remove, or at least disconnect, the driveshaft in order to drop the trans; replacing it at the same time as the clutch is not a bad idea. I've been told by several people that building my 5.7 Eagle in my WK2 would be more worthwhile as the block is better. Plus I like having a sleeper. This video gave good insight on what I need to do to keep my 5.7 and stay a sleeper.
Just did my pcm this weekend. My budget is not what it was before, so, I have the parts purchased, but just doing a little at a time. Had a spinal injury in January and no longer have use of my left leg. So, just settled for a Hemifever tune with just the CAI, EXHAUST, AND 87tb. I know this is for a budget build, but I’m really feeling the stroker kits out for these 5.7s now. Feel it’s the best decision I made for mines. 397 Stroker with 11.0:1 compression ratio with FBOs, maybe even an Edelbrock intake manifold with ported heads and a custom grind cam will get you in the 500s easily. 392 Stroker with 10.4:1 or even lower with bolt ons and a boosted setup could get you in the higher numbers. But like you said, it gets expensive with the tranny and fuel pump setup. You gotta love these 5.7s! Hope to posey more videos this year with the finished N/A setup!! 🙏🏾
I def want to see that beast when you're done. That sounds like an awesome build you want to do. 500whp is plenty to have fun with - that's the range I would like for my 392. 450-500whp range. It's a blast on the streets
My 376 on 15pounds and flex fuel gets 1200 but that’s an LS. Super easy and economical. If I put on bigger turbos and fuel pumps,I can get to 1600 before I lift a head. What would it take for y’all to get to 1600 with a stock block and head?
I have a Chrysler 300c 5.7 and I put on headers, a 90 mm throttle body, full exhaust and had a full professional tune done on it and the car really came alive. I plan on adding a roots style supercharger but first I have to do something about the rear end. I'm in the process of trying to find one out of an SRT at the moment.
for that much in a 5.0 and you basically got a 1,200hp dragster engine the 5.7 must not really be that good of a platform and the 6.4 and 6.2 is even worst
I almost went down that rabbit hole. Hurricane Irma prevented that. With the insurance payoff I was lucky enough to get a newer Scat Pack Challenger for the same as my 5.7. Loved it.... until a stock HC handed me a hefty beating. Modding the 6.4 wasn't realistic based on cost to safely boost it. In the end the numbers didn't lie. If I were to want to build slowly it would be possible to get Hellcat numbers after spending considerably more than trading in and paying the difference. It would have been fun but I guess I saw 1 too many J G Wentworth commercials. I wanted my Hellcat now 😁. Having built a car in my younger days I do remember the excitement with each upgrade. There really is no right or wrong way to go. Everyone chooses their own journey. I'm likely to find myself turning my PlumCat into something ridiculous now that we moved too close to Barth Tuning 🤯🤣. Keep up the great content. Too bad we moved out of Florida right before you guys moved To Florida. Would have enjoyed meeting and running with the B5 Beast. Best wishes to the entire R/T Life family!
Def understand your points about upgrading for more HP. I don't really want to do this again with another car but I had a blast building my Charger. It would've been cool to link up down here in FL & check out your Hellcat. One day
Modify the 5.7 is great.. I just don't see myself spending unnecessary money at a mechanic shop all the time just to fix problems I just bought a scatpack hoping to make it 550 whp
You'll get there no problem with a 392. I'd like to be around 450-500whp with my 392 at some point. That's a fun HP/Torque level to be around for the streets
B Mason just celebrated his new record in his boosted Hellcat, 10.05 on the quarter mile. Good info. Was thinking since you brought a Demon hood I'm seeing a red 392 widebody Demon. If you do take that route I hope it looks like a 392 Demon.
I just dropped my new 6.4 motor a computer chip in my 5.7 2019 it's in the shop now they should call me some point this week and let me know how long it's going to take or when I can't spect for them to be done for me it was cheaper to go this way then get a note for 392
I haven't personally done the research on the Durango's, but I know the Ram's have different gearing in the transmissions & differentials. Due to this, the 2500 Power Wagon with the 6.4L only has 410 hrsprs from the factory. This is the same engine that makes 475 hrsprs in the Scat Packs. That being said, the best thing to "wake up" a 5.7L is a cam upgrade. There are other prerequisite mods that need to be done at some point before getting the cam installed.
luckily my 2013 was unlocked when I Diablo tuned my 5.7 300c. Mods: AFE carbon fiber CAI, AFE long tube headers, Hooker Cat-back exhaust all 3" 304 SS and an AMG transmission upgrade. Was thinking about being unique and badging it an AMG above the 5.7 Hemi badge. With the mods so far I'm 3/4's the way from adding a hellcat supercharger then I'll be just over 600hp and paying insurance price on a 5.7 is way cheaper.
FCA (at the time) didn't lock down the PCM's until the 2015 model year on the Chargers & Challengers. They then locked the ODB2 pretty under the dash starting in 2018 model year. Which AFE intake do you have? The Momentum GT, or something else?

Thanks for the tips!! I have a 2003 Durango w/ a blown engine (not the good blown either). I've decided to swap in a 5.7 using the kit Holly makes for the Dakota. I'm not sure if it will work with my AWD, but I'm about to find out. Anyway, the stock 5.7 is definitely an upgrade over the 5.9 Magnum, but I know I'll probably get bored at some point. I don't want to go too crazy as this car is going to be a kid hauler, but at the same time I don't want the kids to be late for school. 😆
I'm officially fully built. Cost me a buttload. Mainly because I couldn't figure out what exhaust I wanted.. settled on a Summit kit that's 3 ID, and is the best sounding setup I had out of 😬👉👈 let's say alot. Full exhaust and intake manifold are good. DONT get a ported OEM tb. They don't last long. Went through 2 of them before BBK saved me. A new crank pulley is recommended too. Pairs nicely with a mild cam. All in all I spent over 10k and 4k of it was wasted bein a cheapskate.

I have a 21' Durango Tow N Go, noticeably more power n sound from the 18' RT prior, but now i want more! , but the prices today, just not going for SRT. Looking for a good starting point but havent seen Anyyyyy vids or channels for modifying a tow n go! Has the srt muffler and adaptive suspsension..so got a bit of a start there. The 5.7 hemi is a good engine in stock form but once you put a power adder it won't hold up unless you build the internals. I love my hemis but ain't worth the cost to go fast. Better to get a gen2 or gen3 coyote, install oil pump gears and a Whipple and your at the 900-950 horse power reliably. No need for cams, heads or internals, the coyote already has forged internals and is ready to go.
Great info, thanks man! Am looking at installing a LSD unit in my 215mm diff that has 2.65 gears, launches good now with traction control but will do better with 2 tires biting off the line.
Porting your intake manifold, and port matching to the heads is a fun project that will work well with a ported TB. how much hp does it add? A few ponies. It optimizes the air flow which is a good approach to take with the 5.7 in general. And it costs almost nothing if you have a Dremel tool and some sandpaper. A few ponies here and there really add up.
Great video for the 5.7 guys. I just did a similar video on the 6.4…. Might help you on some decisions on your new car. Looking forward to see what you decide to do! MMX is definitely the way to go with the majority of the mods Byron was a huge help on my new setup
In a mechanic I've been going to for a while is dropping it in for $3,000 I will have had to pay half of that down to start off my payment if I went the route of a 392 getting a car note
I am definitely interested in checking out the srt manifolds + midpipes for my 5.7. are they just a direct bolt on replacement? Is a tune needed after installment?
I recently got a 5.7 Chrysler from the 2000s, I added a intake but what can I go from here? Only planning to have the same HP as a 2015 Camaro ss cause I loved it when I drove it for some time
I have a 13 AWD Dodge charger, and from what I learned was that I have to be careful with my T case, or beef it up? So 400-440 awhp would be safe zone. The 5 speed Nag 1 tranny can handle up to 600 hp. Stage 2 and all bolt-ons 🎉 or just a pro charger at 7lbs of boost and call it a day. And I dont need to unlock my PCM and pay extra $$$.
Those headers look pretty interesting. I still think about a cam for the low end torque reduction on the back roads but I just can't justify pulling that trigger, yet.
Got a 5.7 not trying to go crazy. Installed a injen PF cold air intake and planning on getting a bulldog tuner. Im figuring that will get me to 400hp. Any ideas on tuner options?
I've been following you for a while and love the r/t love you bring for the +2015, but I haven't seen a lot of love for the 2011-14. Especially concerning the nag1 trans and what to do rear end wise. Any love or help would be appreciated.
So im hearing, for a junkyard build. Rip a 5.7 out of a pickup. Shave down as much as the intake and exhaust as possible if you cant find a srt to rip apart without paying for the entire engine.(what junkyard is gonna let you grab a whole 6.2 or 6.4 for cheap) Use a turbo instead of a blower because 4k for the adapter isn't junkyard enough.
Is there a video for 6.1 I have a dodge magnum and I’ve seen some videos to where they have the hellcat blower of course with some mods to make it work for 2006-2008
Just bought a 2014 Ram 1500 with the 5.7, found this video while researching builds. I do believe its vvt tho, how the hell do i dismantle that, or will it be ok with this lind of build
Love the content. Thinking about getting a 5.7 for a starter and price wise. Just wondering the best way to get it right over 400hp and I think this helped
I’m doing a similar build I bought a Jeep 5.7 with a ripp supercharger but it was bad misfiring with a bad head gasket, so now we decided to build the block putting forged pistons custom cam 6.2 exhaust manifold I’m not sure what to do with the intake maybe a Holley sniper or a 6.4 still debating any thoughts??
I just got my first 5.7 into a Dakota I gotta say American muscle is stupid easy to build and swap but cost 2 much , my AMG was definitely cheaper to make 800whp but it’s more work and more difficult to work in even my Audi was a pain to work in to make 650whp but it cost so much less than any American v8 platform
Been saving a little here and there Serious question I'm almost at 90000 miles When camming the engine should I rebuild a the internals? I really want to do this right
I added everything up I put in my notes it’s about 10k I came out to with 98% same everything in the video should I mod it with your mods or would a whipple on my 5.7 be more expensive in the long run.?
I’m modding my 1st gen Durango rn, either going with a 5.7 or a 6.1 swap soon. If I find a decent 6.1 that’s not stupidly expensive I’m going with that otherwise I’m doing a 5.7 build
Rn I have a 06’ charger with BBK long tube headers, SRT8 6.1 mani, MSD ignition coils, K&N Intake, black widow exhaust system. I think I’m around 430-440, Trying to get to 500
Hey man, if I wanna do AWD would I need a new differential and other stuff? Also with supercharger, the 8 speed won’t be able to handle the power would it?
Honestly I get the budget idea, I've got a 5.7 and a 6.1 and the 5.7 has a set of American racing long tube with catted mid pipe and that kit is only like 200 dollars more than the srt manifold and mid pipe you are showing. Now yes 200 dollars is 200 dollars but for the performance and quality I would rather get the American racing long tube headers than that stock srt manifold kit
I have a 2016 manual transmission 5.7 and had someone upgrade headers, cam shaft. Looking for 600hp range. Wanting to do supercharger myself to save a few bucks. Any suggestions on what I'll need to accomplish this? novice by the way.
I would be best to pay a shop to do it instead to avoid any headaches that may rise along since you're a novice unless you don't mind the headaches and can sacrifice having your car out of commission for a while.
Or you can just get a procharger do nothing else and get 530+hp for ~8k sure it's a bit more but in the grand scheme not that much and it's a lot less complex, involved and runs on stock internals....
They have adapter kits for about 1500$ I’m not sure why your looking at a 4000$ one that’s a big difference and I think they are made by same company just the kit I got was from a different place
Okay. How much of that is legal on the state in california?? Not looking to end up where every time I put my car on the street. The cops are pulling me over. Or towing it to the drag strip? How much of that can I do to get a little street horsepower upgrade?
Depends I have a 300 Srt good deal on it, but you can find some 5.7 for around 5k definitely be a better route if you are going to throw money into it bc srt8s u can't really find them under 10k especially with low miles, so that's another day 5k straight into it, but yeah 100% if you can find one that's good price it would be better
I've either read somewhere or some video that the SRT headers potentially had clearance issues with the very end of the motor mount bolt. Is that a thing? 2019 for reference if it matters.
I got a stock 5.7 Chrysler 300s, I want to put a hellcat supercharger on it, what am I risking ? Is it mandatory to forge my pistons and rods ? I got around 5k to drop.
Okay I’m confused can you use a plug in tune after headers I don’t wanna spend around 1k for a dyno tune I was just wondering what I would put on the tune and if I can

Hey thank you R/T for another awesome video can’t wait till you fully built on your scatpack
Thank you def appreciate the support!
Glad to see you still making 5.7 content I finally got a hemi just bought a 2010 R/T been checking out cheap performance mods
Yes 5.7 for the price is awesome it’s a cheap car to start with and for around 10-14k and you’re at 600-700whp easily
Yup! Def an awesome trim to get your hands on. They don't kill your bank account & they're easy to upgrade. So many plug/play upgrades.
for that much in a 5.0 and you basically got a 1,200hp dragster engine the 5.7 must not really be that good of a platform and the 6.4 and 6.2 is even worst
@SamaDaGoat o shut up go watch some mustang videos you goofy ass foo
@@samadagoat7769 6.2 is worse? full bolt on e85 on a hellcat gets you 900hp lmfao for like 5-8 grand

One of the best things I've ever did was cam out my 5.7. It ain't much, but I absolutely love driving this ol girl around choppin the block
I don't blame you. The 5.7L once you start modding sounds great & picks up a lot of HP/Torque
I should upload my car it is a mustang I got cammed and I'm the same as you I love chopping around
One day
@@RTLife Absolutely! Still have family in the Bradenton area. Maybe next time you guys decide to put on an event there. Would be great fun
Bro that video was 100% beautifully said!!
Thank you very much. Hopefully it gives some 5.7L guys ideas on upgrades
Modify the 5.7 is great.. I just don't see myself spending unnecessary money at a mechanic shop all the time just to fix problems
I just bought a scatpack hoping to make it 550 whp
You'll get there no problem with a 392. I'd like to be around 450-500whp with my 392 at some point. That's a fun HP/Torque level to be around for the streets
@@RTLife I will follow your 392 build... 500 whp is enough for the street
@@Muchacho77 Intake, exhaust, & cam is all you really need for that.

B Mason just celebrated his new record in his boosted Hellcat, 10.05 on the quarter mile. Good info. Was thinking since you brought a Demon hood I'm seeing a red 392 widebody Demon. If you do take that route I hope it looks like a 392 Demon.

Great video! Lots of good ideas for us 5.7 owners. My Durango needs more power! Thanks for the all the info, love the channel bro!
Hopefully it helps down the road when you're looking for upgrades! Those AWD 5.7L are a blast to drive
@@RTLife heyy, I was going to get bbk ceramic long tube headers, would you recommend them instead of the srt shorties?
@@DJGRoc I got the AFE track series Carbon fiber CAI

Glad I found your channel. Very very informative. I just want 600 on my 5.7
you could do it
Thanks for the tips!! 😆
find an old cop charger they got the 5.7 with AWD
What's different between a regular 5.7 and one out of an awd car?
The 2wd kits won't work right out of the box. There are some one off 4wd hemi swaps for dakotas. You also need a 4wd dakota hemi swap oil pan.
5.9 magnums can make good power. Yeah it takes some wrenching tho.
Appreciate the advice, as this is definitely an option I’d consider later on for my 5.7. As for now she just for show. 👍🏻
A lot of solid options for 5.7L owners when they're ready for power. In the mean time, enjoy it.
I absolutely love the 5.7. Still plenty of fun for me stock as well💪
I'm officially fully built.
What exact setup did you go with? I have a 2016 grand cherokee summit 5.7l and I'm trying to figure out what exhaust setup to go with.
Nice. If you get time could you post your build?

I've looked at that hellcat exhaust package on mmx a bunch but haven't seen anyone use it to get a good review on it
You can probably go to local performance shops & buy those manifolds - many hellcat/392 guys upgrade to long tubes.

Thanks, great content!
Very cool! Love the 5.7, hoping to get a final production year model and start building it in a few years. Great tips
You're going to love it. The 5.7L is a blast to own.
You better get one soon…
Would this be the same upgrade route on a 5.7 grand cherokee? Would love to build a boosted grand cherokee without paying the trackhawk price tag
Optimizing airflow is the ideal with any engine it isn't 5.7 hemi specific lol
@@midnight347 uhh, not what I meant. Optimizing the 5.7 engine is a good approach to take. Because dodge leaves a lot on the table.
Those headers are great but honestly I would just get long tubes they will pay off
I recently got a 5.7 Chrysler from the 2000s, I added a intake but what can I go from here? Only planning to have the same HP as a 2015 Camaro ss cause I loved it when I drove it for some time
I have a 13 AWD Dodge charger, and from what I learned was that I have to be careful with my T case, or beef it up? So 400-440 awhp would be safe zone. The 5 speed Nag 1 tranny can handle up to 600 hp. Stage 2 and all bolt-ons 🎉 or just a pro charger at 7lbs of boost and call it a day. And I dont need to unlock my PCM and pay extra $$$.
Can I do all this to a 2016 Charger Pursuit 5.7 AWD also, 5 speed? Thanks for the info bro!
Don't see why not. Pretty much all of this can move over to the 2016 Pursuit
I’m planning on modding my 2016 pursuit as well 550-600hp with the awd would be a dope sleeper💯
I think the trans & driveshafts will be your limiting factors on the AWD model. I'll bet the forums have some interesting threads on the matter.
Those headers look pretty interesting. I still think about a cam for the low end torque reduction on the back roads but I just can't justify pulling that trigger, yet.
At some point you'll get that itch! In the mean time that 5.7L is plenty for what you enjoy doing - back road fun
You’re more likely to lose torque with a cam upgrade
@@DanielJohnson-ec8rk not if u get proper tune

Good video , What do u suggest mods to get like 450 HP in charger RT
The torqstorm kit is great for under 650whp. $3500
Manual RTs come with lsd in the rear.
My brother had a 5.7 with a demon carb pushing 495 horsepower. Gears done also. The Caprice was fast in Miami Dade county
Que chingon ❤de video, ahora entiendo perfectamente que motores salieron buenos gracias a ti.
Correct me if I’m wrong for but if ya do the Scat intake manifold you have to create your own wiring harness? It’s not plug-in play
When swapping in a limited slip, do the axles need changed as well?

Is there a video for 6.1 I have a dodge magnum and I’ve seen some videos to where they have the hellcat blower of course with some mods to make it work for 2006-2008
Just bought a 2014 Ram 1500 with the 5.7, found this video while researching builds. I do believe its vvt tho, how the hell do i dismantle that, or will it be ok with this lind of build
Can you do a vid on the 392 motor pls. Thx!
Love the content. Thinking about getting a 5.7 for a starter and price wise. Just wondering the best way to get it right over 400hp and I think this helped
Forsure fbo and cam get you just at 400wheel
I really want to do this right
Yes

I’m modding my 1st gen Durango rn, either going with a 5.7 or a 6.1 swap soon. If I find a decent 6.1 that’s not stupidly expensive I’m going with that otherwise I’m doing a 5.7 build
Some pretty sound advice…. There’s so much you can do with a 5.7… And always trying to get that extra horsepower out of that motor🏁

Hey man, if I wanna do AWD would I need a new differential and other stuff? Also with supercharger, the 8 speed won’t be able to handle the power would it?
How reliable is the build I would like to build my single cab but I don’t wanna deal with headaches constantly
Any suggestions on brakes? How do I stop a monster like this?
Honestly I get the budget idea, I've got a 5.7 and a 6.1 and the 5.7 has a set of American racing long tube with catted mid pipe and that kit is only like 200 dollars more than the srt manifold and mid pipe you are showing. Now yes 200 dollars is 200 dollars but for the performance and quality I would rather get the American racing long tube headers than that stock srt manifold kit
So everything you just mentioned you can do with a hand held tune device except for the came and internals I take it
I have a 2016 manual transmission 5.7 and had someone upgrade headers, cam shaft.
I just picked up a 2005 jeep with a 5.7 L hemi. I was wondering if I could do mods pretty much very similar in this video to it let me know thank you
Why the manufacturer didn't put low jacks on these cars especially after starting to make hellcats
With the price of the adapter kit wouldnt it be "better" to go whipple?
Add most all that above
Except add Texas Speedway Camshaft stage 2 😎
If you can find a good 6.1 that be the way to go way cheaper and already has 420hp build from that platform.
All those sound all too familiar! 😂
