      That's what I thought as well. Sadly, due to the Legion Go's screen being a native portrait mode screen many older games from my back catalogue don't run fullscreen or don't run period :/ There are workarounds, like using OpenGL wrappers, but these kind of destroy performance and too much tinkering is required for my taste. For newish games (2012+ with some exceptions) it's a great piece of hardware, that just needs a bit more time when it comes to the Lenovo software experience.

    I recently got the deck, and sometimes it feels like i got into this whole handheld PC thing the moment a whole bunch of hardware manufacturers decided to jump into the game.
    I can appreciate the extra power on the alternatives like the RoG Ally and the Legion Go, and I do understand that the deck isn't the strongest in its category anymore. I also understand that newer games will struggle on the thing. But it's really hard for me to ignore the customer service. I feel like if anything goes wrong with the deck, Valve's got me covered (I'm deathly afraid of opening up my electronics to modify them, so I opted for the expensive deck model and an SD card, works good enough for me). Hell, when my shipment was delayed, Valve let me know before the mail carrier that there was a delay in the first place! I can't think of any other online distributor who has done that!
    Conversely, I've personally had a bad experience with Lenovo's customer service in regards to their laptops. While that was some years ago, it's the sort of thing that still sticks in my mind, especially since it ultimately cost me so much money to rectify.

      Most of those more powerful devices trade battery life for the extra power. For me the deck already has mid battery if it was any worse it would be unusable as a portable

      I have all three, and my favorite is the Legion Go. But the thing with these handheld devices is that it has allowed me to play classic, 2D, and nostalgic games on the go, as well as a few 2D Tripple A blockbusters. It's a beautiful time to be alive with the advent of these history-making devices.

    It doesn't kill the Steam Deck. It also offers little to no real world performance increases over the ROG Ally.
    The Steam Deck is still the best in terms of price to performance and user experience. Those dual trackpads on the Steam Deck are amazing and I love creating radial menus for the left trackpad using Steam's in-depth and highly customizable controller configuration.
    The ROG Ally and the Lenovo Legion Go are both great devices in their own rights, and I like some of the things that Lenovo did with the Legion Go, but neither of those devices are interesting at $700+, especially not when they advertise Windows as a feature. Lol.

    I like the Legion Go waaay more than the Ally, but I'm not replacing my Steam Deck with it. The Z1 Extreme only performs better when it's on the charger and can pull twice the power of the Steam Deck, and even then the improvement is minimal. Equal scaling to 800p is cool, but that would still be a 25% reduction in pixel density over the Steam Deck. I hope the Legion Go isn't as much of a failure as the Ally, so we can get a 2nd generation with a better SoC in a couple of years. If you are interested in buying a 512gb Steam Deck, the Legion Go is probably a better buy. But if you already have a Steam Deck, it's not worth upgrading

    • @DDA69ERS
      @DDA69ERS ปีที่แล้ว +7

      100% agree. Really not worth it especially if you have a steam deck already. Also out of all those new ones coming out steam is the only one going to offer a good price and not actually loose money because unlike all the rest they have they’re own game marketplace where they actually make money. The other ones make no money off the games your playing so they either are just loosing money or charging out the ass for it.

    • @Darkhearts

      Thinking about buying a Steam Deck during their next sale for the 64gb model and just installing a 2TB ssd myself. I figure the upgrades, as you said, are not worth the 2x the price + the lack of steam integration. If I could have the full steam deck experience (software wise) + the compatibility of Windows with the Legion go.... I would consider it.
      In your opinion, think this is the right mindset? That the user experience, the company's track record of support, and price point can't be beat?

      Z1 extreme didn't make the proper hardware leap that would make me replace my deck, it's a joke these handhelds charge $700. for that money you could get two steam decks, or a laptop/desktop.

    • @cameronbosch1213
      @cameronbosch1213 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Exactly. Actually, I think the Steam Deck has the better UI and while battery life is "only" on par with my sister's Switch, it still is better than pretty much every other handheld, except for _maybe_ the Ayaneo Kun, which is also much more expensive.
      Also, the older hardware is a double-edged sword for the Steam Deck, while it does mean in some games, you may have to turn down the settings, Valve is also planning to support the OG Steam Deck longer than the Windows competition, meaning you'll get more out of it longer, compared to the competition, who will probably do yearly upgrades and then forget about the older ones.

The one and only reason I'm thinking about getting the Legion GO is just because of the larger screen but even then I might not go for the upgrade or will wait for a sale or something because right now it's not worth it. While this one actually looks like a much better product than the ROG ally, I still don't feel like any of these are going to be big sellers. The markets going to get crowded and people are just going to default to steam deck because of the name recognition and cheaper price tag. I'm predicting 2-3 years from now all these companies drop out of this segment. Ayaneo will probably stick around because they don't require selling a huge amount of units to remain profitabe and don't need to answer to shareholders, unlike an ASUS or Lenovo and whoever else gives this go. Also, Valve is the only one of these companies who can subsidize the cost of the hardware by funneling people into their store and taking 30% from the software sold there. And based on the games I have seen people play on it, the run the games at med or low settings with 30 FPS for heavy games, so I don't get what does make this better than the Steam Deck since that device can also run those same games at the same settings and similar FPS.

Also the advantage of the Steam Deck is you can get it for $400 now and then when you have some extra $$ you can buy an upgrade SSD for around $50 for the 512 GB or around $80 for the 1 TB and they are easy to replace, and this way you don't have to pay the full price up front.
