I was a machinist quite a while back, you could sharpen your old drill bits with a bench grinder, you would use water to cool the drill bit if it gets hot when sharpening it (if the tip turns blue it is bad).
Also cutting metal, when it is cutting and just before, putting a good cutting oil will help keep the drill sharp longer and lubricate (friction heats without oil) the non-cutting parts of the drill bit, also it will keep the bit and the metal being cut cooler than dry or even with water as water will boil off sooner than oil.

If you’re drilling in steel, you should be running much slower. 5-600 rpm.
