    If you can see slots in the barring carrier, you are lucky because this means it was not installed backwards. To remove the barring from the carrier, slid your alignment tool into the barring and turn it sideways and slide it out of the slots. The carrier is designed to stay to be used again and again. If you new barring comes with the carrier then turn it sideways to remove from the new carrier and install the new barring in the existing carrier. Buy just the barring to save a step.

    To much beer! The outer Bering holder for the Gimbel Bering don't need to be changed unless you spun the Bering in the holder just turn the Bering side ways and remove it takes 4 minute and you never ever grease any bellows. Always bellows adhesive and the hinge pins they use lock tite so heat the bell housing they come right out. I did this for 45 years factory trained you grease the shift cable bellows and that comes off you better have a good bilge pump or be able to swim good. this is y when I'm asked to go on some ones boat in always doing something.

    number 1 look at the destroyed outer ring of the new gimbal bearing great for holding your new bearing
    number 2 never grease a gimbal bellows use the right tools and use adhesive and you will not be doing it again after your first trip on the water

    I feel you man. I had to drill 4 holes in my Aluminum ring and break it out in quarters. What a huge pain. Obviously been in there too long and corroded itself to the housing.

    I put a chain attached to the puller and put it on truck hitch, popped right out. After many beers that decision came about.

    Just enough information to get someone in trouble. It would have been less of a headache if you drilled the outer face the broke it out then pulled again with the puller. Not using adhesive, how long did it take for the bellows to slide off and the boat sank. Bellows adhesive is cheap use it.
    The reason the hinge pins are so hard to take out it because of the locktight the factory uses. Hinge pins are what the bell housing attaches to the gimbal ring. They aren't the sender things.

    ok, so why did you install the gimbal bearing backwards? 5:22 time mark the bearings in backwards.

      that was a tough process for sure. i knew that i could get them from a local marina but they wanted a fortune. i ended up getting mine from a marine supply in florida. forgive me but i cant remember the name of them

      sorry for just now seeing this... as far as the shifter cable is concerned, i replaced mine. it was far too corroded to reuse. it is definitely a pain in the ass. the piece of cable that you will need goes from the throttle assembly on the side of the manifold through the transom. i think i paid about $90 for mine. definitely use the old cable to pull in the new cable.

    Does the Gimbel bellows on the gen1 have a clamp at the bell housing end or does it have a slip ring that holds it to the bell housing?

    • @caseychapman1273
      @caseychapman1273  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aj Wilson, are you asking if the bellows attach to the bell housing?

    • @caseychapman1273
      @caseychapman1273  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aj Wilson, the bellows attach to the transom plate. All of your bellows attach outside the boat. The large housing that is fastened to your transom is where all the bellows terminate. Nothing goes into the boat besides the shift cable

    • @ajwilson1821
      @ajwilson1821 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes by ring or by clamp? I have the Gen 1

    • @caseychapman1273
      @caseychapman1273  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aj Wilson the gen one uses a radiator style clamp. The gen two has the ring you drive in for the gimble bellow.

  • @pvtpelnar11
    @pvtpelnar11 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does the gen 1 not have a gimble retaining ring for the joint bellow?

    • @willconwell
      @willconwell ปีที่แล้ว

      No. That was not introduced until gen 2
