The thing I never get in these "you're the Dark Lord's chosen vessel" is why doesn't the person realize that means the Dark Lord's minions can't actually kill them? They always scare the person into thinking they're in danger so they do the very reckless things that fulfill the prophecy or what not. But they can't actually kill them. Just call their bluff.
I feel when it comes to cults that try to plan out events based on your reactions to things, you would have to be more careful. If you call their bluff, they might just say "okay" and kill you anyway. just a thought though
In last shift, it made sense that Jessica had to stay in the old station overnight but it doesn’t make any sense to have an officer work nights inside an abandoned police station. Cops who work that shift are either in the streets or working at an actual working station. I guess this was the best they could do with their premise Sorry, I used to be a cop
I agree it might have made more sense if the place had been getting broken into, and vandalized more an more as they moved over to the new station. Even the idea of maybe since so many were coming into the city the cells at the new station were overloaded, and someone above thought "why not use the cells at the old station." Yet they began to realize that they needed so many boots on the streets they could only put a single officer on duty at the old station both to keep an eye on those in the cells as well as keep anyone from breaking in. Even this is a thin premise, but abit more plausible to me atleast than the premise given.

Malum certainly was better written with better production but I wasn't a fan of expanding the Cult to being all over town, with the symbols on telephone poles and walls and stuff and I certainly didn't like the family connection. Last Shift worked best cause it was isolated and she was just a victim of the entity, no Hereditary style link...Last Shift also had more scares, the girls in the mirror, officer Price with the hole in his head, the lockers being open...Also I liked the ending of the original, her killing the hazmat team was better than the suicide.
the scares on last shift are almost all jumpscares that not even justify themselves. Eitherway, i end up the movie with a feeling of.. lack. I think there were a lot of lose ends that should have been adress and in the first one I end up with a similar feeling but much more subtle.

It would definitely make sense for a movie to end like that just a silent but chilling realization on everyone's faces that this demon will destroy them as well to get what they want
There seems to be an uncanny valley in horror. Subtlety goes a long way in creating unease. The original Pinhead had an aura of horror, and there was not much gore, just hints of horrific body modification and promises of horror to come. You come at me with a demon covered in gore with his face turned into a starfish that flies around, and you've entered the valley where it loses all horror.
nah, second one had the tension momments made weeeeell better, and the gore give it a nice plus. in the first one you were in the dark and with a huge lack of information for way to long, idk i prefer the tension of this one.
It kinda has the exact opposite effect for me. Im used to seeing generic demon/demonic creatures and faces that seeing something that looks comedic in that setting makes it so weird and unsettling.
I would tell the director 'mission accomplished'. My initial impression of Last Shift was it was a cool idea but lacked a lot of punch. This puts the punch in and I think it was pretty effective.
I really admired the clear love and effort behind this, but I still liked the original better. It’s one of my go-to horror movies. The actress who played Jess just resonated with me more in the original, and even with a bigger budget, Malum couldn’t stand up to TLS’s scares IMO. The scene where the dead girl crawls out from under the desk and up into Jess’ face in the original still freaks me out just thinking about it. I do think the ending was a bit of a mess in the original, but I’m not sure Malum did much to fix it. I always wanted Jessica to survive the night (and not kill all those people), and then we see her grocery shopping or something a few weeks later, and hear a woman next to her humming the girls’ song. That would have been my pitch for an ending. Maybe if they make it a third time!
The higher budget and improved effects are very noticeable in Malum but I definitely prefer Last Shift. It did a lot with the budget it had, delivered some fantastic suspense and payoffs, and the story had a subtle mystery to it like I really liked. After it ends, you're left to ponder how much of it was supernatural and how much of it was Jess experiencing grief-induced hallucinations. I'm glad that Malum is closer to the vision the creator always wanted but Last Shift was definitely not a lacklustre film by any means. A lot of its charm and uniqueness stemmed from the limitations they were working with. Think of it like this: the first Silent Hill game had a lot of fog as a means to obscure the abysmally small render distance of the PS1; monsters and buildings would pop into existence in a silly way without the fog obscuring it. That fog is now considered an iconic part of the franchise and it wouldn't have been there if it wasn't for that console limitation.
If you look at the pigs collar it says Betty, the name of the girl in the yellow dress. I think her spirit is in the pig, and that's why it called out to her father. I loved this remake but found the Mom being in a cult plot point the weirdest and hardest to follow.
Yeah it’s a shame because if the mom in the cult was a stronger plot point it might have made a potent real life counterpoint (cults preying on and psychologically breaking down desperate people) to the supernatural methods of psychologically breaking down her daughter. The overall presentation is better, that comes down to the bigger budget and knowledge that Last Shift was a hit with horror fans and critics, but the ending was way more haunting in the original. Both are actually really good as introductions to horror though, this wasn’t a bad movie, it’s actually really good, I just prefer the gritty low budget original a tad bit more because of the ending only.
i would love to see you cover the movie "stay alive" it's definitely a underrated movie that most don't talk about or know of and i would love to see/have more people know of it
I like the ambiguity of the ending more in the original but things actually happen in this one and it feels less tedious and I like the new mystery of the cult and the main character’s involvement. Also like that they used (I think) their own original demon.
I thought it was weird that this thumbnail looked exactly like the last shift, honestly that was one of my favorite low budget horror movies because of the seclusion to the location, the psychological aspect mixed with the paranormal, and the crazy ass ending, the twists, like maybe it’s rose tinted nostalgia glasses because it was almost a decade ago but from what I remember I loved it. That being said, the same directors and production studio going back to work on their original idea and reimagine it I’ll always be on board for. Bringing the practical effects to 11 and diving deeper into the story of the cult as well as the officers backstory felt really good because that’s what I wanted more of from the original. The fact that this is a reimagining though takes the originality out of it and even some of the authenticity of the scares that a few seem recycled from the original, even the ending was like well yeah of course it was going in this direction given the setup of the mother and premise of the movie. All that being said though I loved the concept and sentiment behind it and while it was entertaining, maybe even more than the first, it didn’t hit scare wise like the first did. I appreciate your breakdown and love the work you put into these videos❤
Last Shift really surprised me, a true great horror movie (and its not hyped as being great, like every Ari Aster clunker for example). Plus, the lead actress is totally lovely. I will need to give this movie a watch
I'm guilty. I've loved every Ari Aster feature film so far. I haven't seen his shorts though. I was not a fan of Malum, but I do hope you enjoy the film.
I hope you don’t comment that on Dead Meat videos because they would not enjoy ‘I don’t actually support or consume cinema anymore I just watch some TH-cam out of context clip reels.’ They’ve explicitly said so in both podcast and Kill Counts. (And yes, it’s still out of context if you listen to a youtuber or read a Wikipedia article list the preceding events lol. That’s not how storytelling works.)
Ah yes, because on a cops first ever shift they leave them all alone with no one to show them the ropes 🤔 Another great video as always. Would love to see a video on the English film Possum.
I'm not sure we watched the same movie. The officer told Jessica to "Turn around". She turns and starts walking away, then he shouts at her the he didn't ask her to walk but to 'turn around' only.
I honestly prefer the first version, it was more subtle and had way more tension in it than this one. Plus I liked the cast more. They did a terrific job.
I love remakes when they are done to remake the movie. Its a fine line of using the original plot but fixing and tweaking. I honestly wish more people would remake stories without completely changing the main character or adding useless stuff. Malum did a great job doing this.
I think they should’ve really expanded on the universe. Maybe instead of redoing it, add to the aftermath of the incident. Leading to the big reveal of the low one. I feel like that would bring more suspense of the unknown and develop the story even greater.
I appreciate the wonderful effects and better composition of the story here. However I do feel that the low budget nature of The Last Shift really made it the suspension of disbelief a lot better.
Omnipotent and omniscient evil entity plays a bit with a not-so-smart police officer. Did she even have a chance? Did she make a bad choice? Could it have ended any other way? No, no, no. This isn't a horror movie, it's just torture porn.

I love this. Make the same movie again, but different and more! There's entire franchises that essentially do the same lmao
The OG version was definitely lacking in special effects and monster-footage. Also, the cult was almost nothing.
I haven't seen this one, but i look forward to it!
Do not encourage this. . .
@@gamedrop3262I am all for it if done well. Some movies could have had much more potential but couldn't for whatever reason like budget.
Especially horror movies that couldn't expand the chaos from let's say a little house to the outer world.
Still waiting for 28 weeks later sequel.
Bro the 28 days later was good but i think not as much people watched the last one but i really do want to see another one though
@@kianabastillas3721 Yeah I didn't care for 28 Days later.
Weeks later was and still is the scariest movie I've ever seen due to the intense beginning! Still have nightmares of it.. Whole movie theater was laughing and joking when the movie started and once that intro hit no one barely breathed for the entire movie till it was over. Think one person even left the movie.
Don't know why it hit me and my friend hard. Maybe it was the weed that movie is stuck inside my sub conscience for sure. Not so much when awake but in dreams - zombies aren't terrifying to me usually but watching your son or mom turn sucks.
Even without the cult plot line that abandoned station had physical murders in it, marking it a prime location to be haunted
The real horror is realizing 2014 is less than one year alway from ten years ago
Edit: Man this really feels like a case of less is more, especially with the dumb looking demon dude at the end.
MINECRAFT WAS MADE IN 1427
FEEL OLD YET?
That shot with his face flying off - big oof - Pretty sure that effect was made on like…a graphing calculator?
Hard to believe someone really thought that monster design was a good idea.
The Last Shift was 10 years ago?! I need to go sit down.
Ari asters movies honestly suck. Too much hype. And just not good movies.
@@jillianpantano6461 Thank you! I honestly cant understand the hype. He is just the new M. Knight Shamblepants IMO
I'm guilty. I've loved every Ari Aster feature film so far. I haven't seen his shorts though. I was not a fan of Malum, but I do hope you enjoy the film.
I dont even watch movies anymore I just Ending Explained and Kill Count my way through life.
Same
I hope you don’t comment that on Dead Meat videos because they would not enjoy ‘I don’t actually support or consume cinema anymore I just watch some TH-cam out of context clip reels.’ They’ve explicitly said so in both podcast and Kill Counts.
(And yes, it’s still out of context if you listen to a youtuber or read a Wikipedia article list the preceding events lol. That’s not how storytelling works.)
Me too😂😂
Especially horror movies cause I DONT watch those at all but still want to know what happens without getting scared 😅
Bunch of halfassers I bet y'all do the bare minimum in everything
It's crazy to me that The Last Shift is 10 years old already. I liked that movie, can't wait to view the reimagining.
Did not 10 years old yet since the movie came out in 2014 in it still 2023
loved this film so much man. I described it as Last Shift and The VOID having a baby
thanks for letting me watch it again without having to pay
So what is this director just gonna Remake the last shift every 4-8 years and just try to tell it better and better until he thinks it's perfect lmao
03:17 "protect the innocent and all that crap" lmao the sarcasm is incredible 😂😂
Ah yes, because on a cops first ever shift they leave them all alone with no one to show them the ropes 🤔
Another great video as always.
Would love to see a video on the English film Possum.
I'm not sure we watched the same movie.
The officer told Jessica to "Turn around".
She turns and starts walking away, then he shouts at her the he didn't ask her to walk but to 'turn around' only.
The mans gesticulates so wildly, he had to include a lot of space on the outside of his chair. I love this channel lol
I honestly prefer the first version, it was more subtle and had way more tension in it than this one. Plus I liked the cast more.
They did a terrific job.
I feel like the time jump after the dad's death should've been 10 years and not just 1, that whole aspect didn't make much sense to me.
Especially bc the cult leader and his lady followers were dressed like they were straight outta the 1960s or 70s.
@@asdf-oq4zrit’s implied they didn’t age, at least the main leader. Director must be into Manson since the style fits
Right when u we're describing the plot I was thinking of the last shift I wish they would make a sequel to the original that's what we need
The vibrating creature reminds me of the vibrating man in the movie Jacob's Ladder.
I didn't know this was basically a remake of last shift until after i saw the movie and looked it up 😮
When they dropped from the ceiling and you showed that, i screamed so loudly.
while i found the bagheaded minions scarier, i give the crew credit for trying something different with the weird symbol head they gave malum
I really wanted more on the cult
I appreciate the wonderful effects and better composition of the story here. However I do feel that the low budget nature of The Last Shift really made it the suspension of disbelief a lot better.
Omnipotent and omniscient evil entity plays a bit with a not-so-smart police officer. Did she even have a chance? Did she make a bad choice? Could it have ended any other way? No, no, no. This isn't a horror movie, it's just torture porn.
No way, The Last Shift is one of my favourite movies, the atmosphere is near unsurpassed imo. Will have to check this out.
I'd say it better because the plot makes a bit more sense, and the effects are interesting. Gives it more character... I felt like last shift was very bland
i made it 3 minutes before realizing im super interested in seeing the movie and dont want spoilers. i loved the last shift. that was a close one, found flix.
Wow I sent him a request for this movie I didn't think he would 😅since he gets so many request thank you!!!
Was literally just thinking “hmm I haven’t seen a found flix video pop up in awhile”
Now that the Callisto Protocol DLC has dropped. You should do a ending explained for the game. It’s a actually solid psych horror story and I think you’d lay it out in a way people would enjoy 🙏
like it that more and more people putting real facts for input in stories, pushing writers to do better research and better stories results, good movie
I liked “The Last Shift” so I’d probably like this too.
this is better IMo
@@xoafallen6239I liked The Last Shift better 😂
I’m happy as long as it’s not boring. To me that’s the worst thing about movies/tv shows.
@@OomaGooma it wasn’t boring but I just liked the first one better
Good to know. 👍🏻
Omg this is the movie where there was a police officer that had his head blown out and had a hole in it when the main character turned around showing that he was a ghost the whole time… that movie had a good plot.
I mean "she didn't had a chance" - she could just leave
Dude, I just watched Last Shift for the first time three weeks ago. I know it was three weeks, because right afterwards I proceeded to watch and then comment on that FoundFlix ending explained video!
the hooker did a great job of acting out that "zoned-out" scene. probably my favorite part of this movie.
but how about naked fat cop..
Here’s every movie ending over the last 10 years “AND THEN THE BAD GUY WINS”
The original was definitely better. This one just looks like the wanted to be more over the top and more blunt with the story which makes it honestly boring.
I just checked your channel about an hour ago to see if you'd uploaded anything lmao, nice timing
Mulan has really changed since I was a kid, not what I expected at all. The previous remake was pretty bad but this... This is intriguing... but highly disturbing.
ok but the bodies in the holding cell legit got me
Before watching this explanation, I was hoping that malum somehow tied into last shift, but now I know that they’re basically the same story I thank foundflix for existing
I realized it was similar to Last Shift a few seconds in but didn't know it was a re do.
most crucial rules on a farm: never alone in the pig pen, never let a child near a pig pen. the smell of blood will turn those things in landshark but worse. 9 minutes and the average man will be nothing but bones
The second I finished watching the movie, I was like now I'm just waiting on a found-flix ending explained
I was literally just checking for a new video 😂
I was literally just in my recent videos
Same 😂
Thank you for that breakdown right at the start; if not for that explanation, I'd have been bothered the whole time trying to remember The Last Shift!
I wanna see Ash from Evil Dead dropped into this movie. Get some!
As an artist myself I get why he redid his own movie because there's lots of times I'll take a I've done drawing and redo it and see if I could do it better
@FoundFlix PLEASE DO AN ENDING EXPLAINED FOR THE WIND(2018) !!!!!!!!!!
I second this! I feel like no1 ever covers that movie
Glad to see them luscious locks growing back out! Thanks for another banger FoundFlix
lol she really busted out the glock for a lock.
Oh!! Finding out this is a reimagining of Last Shift from the SAME company makes so much sense. I watched it not knowing and I sat there the entire time “this is just Last Shift?”
Please review Fresh Hell (2021)! It is one of the movies of all time!
I much prefer The Last Shift under pretty much all aspects, it was a mediocre horror movie but it had it's moments. There is nothing in this movie which would make me think "Huh, that was better than the original".
It's not a terrible movie, but there isn't much reason for it to exist and no reason to watch it more than once.
As a peace officer, myself and a Horror Fan; the Last Shift and this movie truly give me the heebee jibbies, plus it doesn't help I work in a documented Haunted Courthouse.
My favorite part from the original was when Eddie Murphy's character says, "Dragon! Not lizard, I don't do that tongue thing" then immediately does the lizard tongue thing! It was hilarious, I don't know why they cut the entire character from this remake.
what
I agree that this version is missing the "I'll Make a Man Out of You" sequence :(
I’m not sure if you’re joking or if you’re completely out of the loop…but this movie is called MALUM….you’re talking about the movie MULAN 🤦🏽♂️
@@ReemadreeMonzurIt's a joke, instead of Malum he's talking about Mulan
@@BronxGee1r/woooosh
@foundflix pleeeease do Maniac (2012)! i just watched it and i have a lot of questions that are always answered in your video style!
Liked last shift way more
So this was the first time that she started working as a cop? So in contrast to last shift, this could’ve been called “first shift”? Though it immediately sounds less sinister
She sees bodies fall from the ceiling, out of nowhere but she acts as if someone was pulling a prank. Shouldn’t she be a pile on the floor after that?
I've been thinking of the movie called Blink about a woman who gets a cornea transplant. Or on Netflix I just watched one called Lavender with Justin Long.
Keep cranking out these super videos!
Hey mate, would love to see your take on Megan's missing. seems to be either a love it or hate kind of movie.
I think he’s already done it ❤ Edit: Never mind, I’m thinking of two separate movies! Missing … and M3GAN lol
This movie freaked me out not gonna lie. And I watch horror movies often 😂
The demon… eh… taking inspo from Hellraiser I guess. But constantly had me on edge, so for that…it’s a win!
Am I the only one who thinks the malum symbol looks like the KFC man's face outline?
Was waiting for this
Thank you
The fact that there were executives that green-lit this movie, and there are a lot of people that made a living from this movie… Makes me feel a hell of a lot better about becoming financially stable
Last shift was SCARY AF!!! and that ending......😱😱😱😱
Omg I'm so happy. I had such a bad day; I love a little horror time.
