Well, the mother mentioned in the dairy book that she could feel and hear the devil soaking his soul. Notice how everyone interfared heals and loves towards the father in order to cure him died brutally and aggressively? I think this is the case.

@@Fuzziefeelings Yeah because when there’s a demon that you literally can’t harm or destroy trying to kill you, the smart decision is to stay. For sure. 10/10 logic
Based on the other deaths we saw that weren't the direct family, I wonder if she was an illusion and either wasn't there in the first place or if Louise was just tricked into thinking she had killed herself.
I wish we'd have found out that the father had previously sold his soul, or had a flower bed of dead children on the property. I mean why was this hard working farmers soul so important to the devil?
Still can't decide if this type of story and ending is a good subversion of expectations or just a huge waste of time. What am I suppose to take away from this?...Everyone is literally doomed to die the second they appear on screen after awhile it just becomes dead, dead, dead, dead dead, ending. Riveting.
@pyro wolf I agree, but this one leans more into waste of time territory rather than subverting of expectations for me. I feel like films like The Witch and Midsommar (SPOILERS) where there is a character win really makes a good ending when changing it up. In that sense I Just mean like while the daughters family died in the witch, she didn’t and made her own choice and joined the coven, and the lead in midsommar made her choice to murder her boyfriend. It makes the film easier to accept like oh these characters I grew to like survived which fields a little part of joy in our brain but also knowing that their new life might be worse but it’s what they wanted. In this type of ending it feels like this was the predestined outcome, exemplified by the fact even when the brother left he still died (and had love with his family so like the message of the movie makes no fucking sense, like love fights off the devil but he had it but still died??? Idk seems just kind of bullshit). Films like final destination can get away with it, but that’s only because they were escaping death at different points and they weren’t always for sure ways they were going to die and a lot ended up missing or not killing creating suspense. This one the devil almost never missed and just fucked with u, never in the movie did I think damn there’s no way the devil succeeds. It was simple in its design but with how powerful they made the devil in this I think them living would’ve been a subvert to my expectations considering how the movie built him up and killed the surrounding characters with little to no effort. Thank you for reading this if you read it all, here’s a gold star :) ⭐️
Yeah normally I enjoy horror movies but this one stuck with me. Especially that fucking song at the end with the dude killin himself. If that was their intention well damn they got me!
Yeah they didn't think that scene out very well. Should have cautiously peeked out, and only after initially seeing no one, pulled the curtains back. Still would have got the jump scare but without the weird sibling stuff that obviously wasn't intentional.
Now, I haven't seen this movie, but if the dad is unconscious the whole time until he dies in his sleep... could the devil make him commit suicide? He's not awake to turn off his own oxygen. So he kind of had to use the dad as bait for other people.
The demon needed a lonely and unloved soul. It ended up getting that in the end with Louise, because the dad was the last person left alive she had in her life. Even if the demon had gotten her to kill herself, he still would have had the fathers unloved soul. All he had to do was wait
I'm currently living with my slowly dying father since I'm the only sibling not married or with my own children. I started suffering from terrible nightmares after my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and quickly became more than my Dad could handle and we moved her to a home for women suffering from the same disease. The nightmare in this movie is so much like my own , that feeling of dread so overwhelming that I can't move and I wake up sobbing, sometimes two or three times a night. Probably shouldn't have watched this but I love ENDINGS EXPLAINED. Real life is sometimes worse.
This was one of the best horror movies I have seen in a long time. Watched it after your review... and it did not detract at all. Director, cast, cinematography were all simply jarring / haunting. Loved it!

@@EliasTressa honestly I think a lot of the ratings on rotten tomatoes for horror movies are just, off. Like movies I end up really enjoying will get under 50%
@@emily.g.929 Horror fans in general seem to be pretty unforgiving when it comes to rating movies, probably something to do with the genre being more niche so the people who end up watching it tend to be more seasoned movie watchers and hobbyists rather than being mostly casual viewers.
"Because you were home". Gotta be one of the best, somewhat recent, lines in horror! I dont doubt the writer of The Strangers has some more scary tales to tell.
Too bad the movie is basically just "owh no there's a banging at the door" and "owh no there's a man in the background" not even gonna talk about the other stupid shit that makes that movie bad once you use your brain
The dad was probably the only barrier in place keeping the evil entity away, once he became sick, frail, and weak the darkness easily took root on the farm. The dad must had held it off even before his last breath but ultimately the non believers dug their own grave by believe the wolf in sheep's clothing is just a bunny rabbit.
This movie had good potential but we were hoping for the story to go deeper and it never did. Like why where they SO special the devil himself wanted the dad and killed them? Then that random person that was killed in the trailer? Like ok
Its shallowness is exactly the point, the maid/nurse lady says it in the film, there are bad things in the world and they come for who ever they want, the film is purely just to illustrate the cruelty of the devil, picked them at random mentaly tortured/killed them simply because he could. Even the maids bible quotes didn't save her. Thats just the nature of evil it doesn't always have to be deep and when it comes it comes theres no running (the brother dying) thought the film proved its point well. Im not superstitious nor do i believe in the supernatural but the film was pretty effective at times.
@@reginalannister2262 yeah i see your point, if you have a strong stomach and aren't bothered by acts of cruelty i can recommend "the nightingale" if you want something more nihilistic then "annihilation" is a good choice. @@reginalannister2262 that jumpscare ending sure didn't make it better. And its really easy to see how it couldve been far better. By simply removing the jumpscare. Having the singing continue with the shot at the house. Then Louise says "mom?" And cut to black. We all know how it ends and i think it would've been more effective. I feel like “the devil” is like a metaphor for depression and mental health. People who are lonelier and in tougher situations are way more vulnerable than those who are supported by a net of loved ones and positive care. The message is to always go beyond in order to help others, even when it’s tough for you to do so. That way you can do something positive regardless of how bad you feel, and maybe others will do the same. It’s about not letting go of hope and doing everything you can to help others in order to keep people from sinking in their own negativity. That’s kind of what I got from it, probably not explained as well as I could have but you get the point.

@@Otgel Because image wise a goat is the polar opposite of a sheep. Sheep are dumb, easily led, naïve creatures that dont do well on their own. Goats are intelligent, willful things, that can survive by themselves. Personally as much as I hated having to help raise them, I prefer goats, they will destroy just about everything around though.
Maybe the brother didn’t love his wife and daughters as much as he thought or the demon was just fucking with him. Who knows but it’s just another horror movie with a depressing ending.
the dad wasnt effected because of the simple fact that he already lost everything; his family, his ability to walk and talk, his individuality. he was really living on borrowed time and because of that he feared nothing in his vegetable state.

I watched this film after many recommendations and I can reconcile most of the events except for the nurse. I'm still trying to find an explanation for her suicide, other than simply the demon wants what it wants.
I think it may have been an illusion all along because if I remember correctly, when they showed Louise waking/getting up they didn't show the nurses body on the floor. 🤔
I still can't figure out the phone call. Unless because the priest was the devil he knew of a guy who had a daughter Louise and gave her that number to mess with her?
A lot of stupid tropes in this that just get old at this point. I mean seriously, a spider crawled out of his mouth and your like " oh nothing" ? Uugghhh, eyeroll

@@tanyanikolaevagizdova6571 you’re right, it isn’t fair for me to call them quick to suicide. I understand that it’s entirely explained and reasonable within the story. Outside of the movie though it struck me as silly. If I were watching it I’m sure I would understand better.
What would calling 911 do? He's already 100 percent convinced that the demon is real, able to follow him everywhere and kill his family. He probably thought the rest of his life would be like that. Also, lets be honest, these people didn't seem the most stable to begin with.

911? Yes please come save me from this thing you can't see
Alternate theory: The dad was the host for the demon, and everything it did emanated from his body inside the house. Then, as soon as he died, the demon jumped from his body and possessed his daughter's body in the final shot of the film.

It kind of scream like a metaphor for depression and how quick it can screw with the perception of the world around you to anyone else? Especially from taking care of a passing loved one, that can snowball through an entire family.
Which would explain why the mother and brother still killed themselves despite the obvious love they had. All the love in the world is meaningless if you don't feel it.
@@rosesweetcharlotte Exactly, that'd also could be why the first attempt by the brother failed because he was able to "pull himself out of it" before he went through with it. He hadn't completely been consumed by the situation yet.

I live in the same county as the town where most of the filming took place. It's really weird to see it portrayed as the middle of nowhere, and dark/desolate in the movie when you know the surroundings. Like, over 60k people live here it's not exactly a small town. The "set" was just a few miles outside of town. Knowing all of that really took me out of the movie for some reason.
FoundFlix is my cheat sheet for _ALL_ the many movies I’m too chicken to watch, & not brave enough to find out first hand what the heck they’re about! Maybe it’s just me, but this channel has definitely helped me explore content outside my admittedly rather limited, timid comfort zone!
I hate it when you're the only person I can find who's made an "ending explained" video about a movie. It's crushing. Because literally all you ever do is review the plot summary.
I really enjoyed this movie. It creeped me out too. I thought the demon was a strigoi. From Wiki: in Romanian mythology are troubled spirits that are said to have risen from the grave. They are attributed with the abilities to transform into an animal, become invisible, and to gain vitality from the blood of their victims.

I love a good heartbreaker now and then, but jesus this one seems dark even for the most morbid movie fans.
yeah, especially the brother killing himself in front of his family. That's heart breaking to realize the devil just tricked you into doing that
Still can't decide if this type of story and ending is a good subversion of expectations or just a huge waste of time.
@@mdeptawa1 I completely agree and got a gold star in the process lol
Yeah normally I enjoy horror movies but this one stuck with me. Especially that fucking song at the end with the dude killin himself. If that was their intention well damn they got me!
Your channel is a combination of my favorite style of humor, and learning. Thank you and have a good day everyone.
From a hardcore horror fan from way back this one hit me a couple of times. The hopeless feeling throughout the movie was unsettling.
we really not gonna talk about how when she thought her brother was in the bathroom she rips the curtains away still completely naked?
Lol Sweet Home Alabama
Nutty Mcnuttin If you see a body standing right on the other side of the curtains, your going to move the curtains slowly ?
also she actually covers her eyes when he convulses

Yeah they didn't think that scene out very well. Should have cautiously peeked out, and only after initially seeing no one, pulled the curtains back. Still would have got the jump scare but without the weird sibling stuff that obviously wasn't intentional.
This man could talk about his favourite paint drying videos and I’d still be so entertained.
Now, I haven't seen this movie, but if the dad is unconscious the whole time until he dies in his sleep... could the devil make him commit suicide? He's not awake to turn off his own oxygen. So he kind of had to use the dad as bait for other people.
The dad died of natural causes.
Loved it!
"It's quick y'all"
I love this, both the timing and the editing.
Holy smokes I've never been this early. Watched this twice and this one made me feel uneasy. Not Hereditary levels but it definitely took me a sec to shake this off. As an atheist knowing that there's evil in this world that doesn't care if I believe in it or not hit home.
Edit: the ending was kinda meh
Agree there bro

Is it good?
I thought it was but it has a 47% of rotten tomatoes 🍅
@@EliasTressa honestly I think a lot of the ratings on rotten tomatoes for horror movies are just, off. Like movies I end up really enjoying will get under 50%
@@emily.g.929 Horror fans in general seem to be pretty unforgiving when it comes to rating movies, probably something to do with the genre being more niche so the people who end up watching it tend to be more seasoned movie watchers and hobbyists rather than being mostly casual viewers.
I agree, any horror movie on imdb that has anything above a 4.5 is maybe a worth watch in my eyes. Just like anything over a 6 i a good movie lol
"Because you were home". Gotta be one of the best, somewhat recent, lines in horror! I dont doubt the writer of The Strangers has some more scary tales to tell.
I watched The Strangers, and I cannot hear that phrase without hearing Dollface saying it. It really sticks with you forever

The dad must had held it off even before his last breath but ultimately the non believers dug their own grave by believe the wolf in sheep's clothing is just a bunny rabbit.
idk, i thought the sick dad was also an atheist? i thought the whole family was.
I thought that it was because the demon wanted his soul, so it stuck around until he died and used his body as a host.
God isn't real.
@@richardshiflett5181 God is only as real as the small box you live in that is the capacity of your mind to comprehend it's existence.
@@_1Sentry1_ but it's been done to deаth. Most of these movies end the sаme wаy. I find it boring insteаd of enlightening or scаry.
@@reginalannister2262 yeah i see your point, if you have a strong stomach and aren't bothered by acts of cruelty i can recommend "the nightingale" if you want something more nihilistic then "annihilation" is a good choice. Last and certainly not least "overlord" that came out in 2018 is fantastic. Those are my horror recommendations if your sick of the cliche satan is the bad guy narrative. Enjoy😉
But instead of that they wanted just one last jumpscare
@@_1Sentry1_ "the lighthouse" is really good as well. But nightingale honestly kinda broke me. First time the rumors about a movie being so impactful that it can actually turn some people away.

You're quite the character, buddy! I've been tuning in on this channel all day since I bumped into one of your videos by accident. I must say, I'm totally hooked. Love the show! 👍💪

Goats. They're goats

Maybe the brother didn’t love his wife and daughters as much as he thought or the demon was just fucking with him. Who knows but it’s just another horror movie with a depressing ending.
15:40 filming this scene in real life was probably just as scary as in the movie
the dad wasnt effected because of the simple fact that he already lost everything; his family, his ability to walk and talk, his individuality. he was really living on borrowed time and because of that he feared nothing in his vegetable state.

I watched this film after many recommendations and I can reconcile most of the events except for the nurse. I'm still trying to find an explanation for her suicide, other than simply the demon wants what it wants.
She had the most brutal painful suicide because she lit that candle
I think it may have been an illusion all along because if I remember correctly, when they showed Louise waking/getting up they didn't show the nurses body on the floor. 🤔
I still can't figure out the phone call. Unless because the priest was the devil he knew of a guy who had a daughter Louise and gave her that number to mess with her?

This movie sounds dope, but I can’t help but be bothered by how quick everyone is to suicide upon a tragic event. Like bro didn’t even try to call 911 he just killed himself? Idkkkkkkk man
You pretty much summed up the whole movie, it was a dud.
Through the power of Satan. Like, seriously it was not normal suicide.
911? Yes please come save me from this thing you can't see
“Devil, devil, devil. He wants David’s soul.”

The reason the dad lasted so long was because he was so loved by his children especially his daughter.
Alternate theory: The dad was the host for the demon, and everything it did emanated from his body inside the house. Then, as soon as he died, the demon jumped from his body and possessed his daughter's body in the final shot of the film.
I have to say you're awesome man!! I mean, I appreciate your videos all the time but even more so now since the pandemic.
