I’ve used a shockwave avatar in VRChat and can confirm he is completely blind looking down due to his massive honkers. Not only that, but pretty much every other transformer avatar I’ve used has a blind spot due to less prominent robo-boobs. Seems like all transformers need breast reduction surgery…

Do you know why Prime Shockwave had it doe? I know he's a tank and the chest plate becomes a kind of screen where humans would be able to look through if they were inside him, but as a Cybertronian that's never connected to smaller beings, I question how he has that design since the concept of smaller creatures riding Cybertronians wouldn't exist for him on Cybertron
My personal canon is that though Shockwave looks to have one eye, his body is actually covered in eyes to allow him to see all of his blindspots, making it impossible to attack him stealthily. My support, he has 2 eyes in Cyberverse one on top of the other, and in Dark of the moon, where Shockwave was still able to see despite his eye hanging out of his socket.
Due to how rarely we ever see him transform I always assumed that it was like part of the windshield or something. I guess you could say it's a boob window.
On the toy, it was where the electronics were, so theoretically, it should be so he can house a power-pack for for his arm cannon.(this is my headcannon.)
Based on the Shockvawes which have a cybertronian tank/spider as their alt mode, the boob seems to be just the cockpit of said alt modes. Otherwise, in the other incarnations I would say that is their spark chamber (like the Japanese Transformers) and/or a massive compartment for more processing power to support Shockvawe's impressive intelligence.

G1 Shockwave can generate beams of energy anywhere on the electromagnet spectrum, i.e. infrared heat, microwaves, radio waves, visible light, etc. His weakness is that he can burn through energon, but he has a *nuclear reactor* in his chest to supplement his high fuel use.
If you've read the IDW comics, then you'd know Shockwave is a lot like Darth Vader. He used to be an Autobot that had a rebellious attitude which gave him the punishment of Empurata. So he used to not always have boobs.
Realistically I think it’s the same thing as whatever Soundwave’s chest thing was before he became a cassette player, and whatever Optimus’s or Rodimus’s chest compartments were meant for before housing the Matrix of Leadership. It seems like most if not all transformers have a compartment in their chest to house the Matrix or something similar. Some with windows that show what’s inside and some without. But it seems like that space can be repurposed depending on their alt mode, like Soundwave’s being used to house his cassettes and Optimus’s becoming his truck windows. So maybe Shockwave’s chest compartment is just abnormally large because of how it gets used in his alt modes, but it currently doesn’t do much else (except glow) because his alt modes don’t require any other purpose. But yeah you could probably keep snacks in there.
My head canon is that it’s an extra computing attachment. That After shockwave went through empurata he installed the extra computing units in a custom attachment. And as a result the mono badonker

What if shockwave is secretly a matrix bearer? His chest is shaped somewhat like the matrix and he's an extremely mysterious character so I wouldn't be surprised if he was hiding some secrets. His chest also becomes his vehicle mode in some forms like in prime and the BBM studio series toy
