As a kled main his story and voicelines are arguably better than his music. you can get what he is in his theme but you really need to read his story to understand what hes all about i feel.
The reason why there seemed to be a disconnect narratively compared to the music is that (as you know) there were multiple tracks. Those were a progression because GP changed throughout League's Burning Tides event, where he was defeated by Miss Fortune and was dead for a week (he wasn't even playable in game) I'm guessing the reason for the lack if fear is that the first track is more of his perspective with his pride as the unshaken ruler of Bilgewater.
In bilgewater, a city of cutthroats and pirates, theres no law that could be enforced. Order is only enforced by fear and while many despise gangplank, they cant help but respect his representation of the old ways of bilgewater. This reign of fear is inbetted in pride and nostalgia, especially after gangplanks seeming demise. Because of this this theme sounds the way it does, its encapsulates the perspective of these sailors, humming in the background.
I see this theme as representing what Gangplank thinks of himself, rather than how anyone else sees him. Up until he was ousted from power in Bilgewater, he seems like the kind of guy who believed his own hype. Even after that he probably still does, seeing his defeat as a fluke or bad luck rather than any weakness or deficiency on his part.
It’s not just Gangplank’s POV, but the player’s. Every champion embodies some fantasy, some role to inhabit. You’re not just watching the pirate king do his pirate thing, you can BECOME this unshakable badass and make the Rift tremble before you.

I mean yea, his hype is warranted He went to Ionia and pissed Zed off; By stealing from the Order of Shadow and escaping. Noxus stopped their plans on taking Bilgewater; Because when they tried Gangplank stole Noxus' flagship/ Swain's favorite ship. He keeps the Big Sea Monster far from the isles in Bilgewater. The brought the different gangs in Bilgewater to their knees; MF right now is struggling and finding herself doing the same thing GP has done.
Captain Gangplank is absolutely one of the best login screen music in my opinion, it really gave Bilgewater that unique identity being a coastal land - not just for our pirates here. Oh Marco, if only you were there during the Burning Tides. Gangplank really proved himself that his will alone will never allow anyone to sink him. And that rework they gave him. Oh my god, it's one of the most unique kit during its time. He's a fighter yet doesn't have the mobility of a Skirmisher nor the sustain of a Juggernaut, he's an all well rounded champion who can deal massive damage of you're not careful.
you are definitely right about the not being careful part, his ult Death's daughter upgrade with the old Thunder rune could easily nuke low hp enemies and I like using it against enemies who was recalling, good time.

In a way its like a dance, everyone hitting their mark and pulling their weight for something grater than oneself. (Even if that involves stealing, looting, killing, but that's just semantics.)

He's done songs for other league characters, it might be an interesting addition should in the future a character you guess has a lyricized version and listen in addition. Plus the channel is criminally unnoticed for how big leagues playerbase is.

I always enjoyed this first part of Gangplank’s tracks. It symbolizes to me the height of his influence as a captain and leader. It has a powerful sea shanty-like vibe, a merry tale of pirating. This the before he fell music when that feeling of invincibility is still present.
So Gangplank is one of my favorite characters. As I'm sure you've heard by now he was a ruthless pirate king who was dethroned and presumed dead. However one thing that isn't super explored is how a good chunk of Bilgewater wants him back and really don't like the more benevolent Sarah Fortune. As horrible as he was he was very good for business. This is the guy who stole the largest ship from the Noxians, one of the strongest military powers in universe. And a lot of others follow him because they just respect his ruthlessness. I think that's why the music sounds like how it does. Brutal and vicious as he is he's still a positive legend for the pirates he lead.
In the the Ruined King game you can fight Gangplank as a boss and he theme is "Revenge of the Reaver King" and its phenomenal, worth giving a listen too.

there is some pretty incredible artwork for Gangplank in Legends of Runeterra (league's cardgame) , of him on the deck of his ship called the Dreadway, with hundreds of barrels of gunpowder, and a look on his face like he is about to crash his ship into the side of the port for people disrespecting him.
I like shanties and stuff and this one's tone is really catchy , or jolly, if you will. I really love this one. It's got jolly moments and then cool moments with unique sounds and rhythms.

let's be honest. when gp was originally released, he was a joke. a pirate for the sake of having a pirate. a man whose abilities were a simple pistol shot, eating oranges, and getting his boat to launch a cannon barrage. but with the burning tides event and the rework, he was given a lot more depth. while simultaneously being thrown off the deep end to claw his way back to shore, letting the proud pirate king of bilgewater bay evolve and grow to a more vengeful and stubborn person. also, his metal arm is an item in-game called the dead man's plate. its flavor text is a quote. "There's only one way you'll get this armor from me..." - forgotten namesake
He has two themes one is where u can hear his crew humming (the one u played) and the other is after he lost to missfortune and lost everything so the other theme song is the same except u cant hear his crew in that one anymore
I feel like this track is his old comrade pirates being "we are pieces of trash, but here, with our captain, this is our fun and small yet full complete world"
gangplank lore has taught me to have pride and believe in myself and his theme solidified that thought which is why its my all time favorite and will always have a special place in my heart
You’re really hitting all of my top lane mains! Ornn, Aatrox and now gangplank, so happy you are reviewing these themes. Gangplank is a tough nut to crack. He was inside his ship when misfortune (the character) blew it up, by all rights he should be dead and in the legends of runeterra card game the kindred even says as much. Yet somehow with a pinch of grit and a whole lotta desire for revenge he pulled himself out of the burning wreckage, replaced his destroyed arm, and began doing what he does. Truly a great lord of bilgewater.
I had faded out of playing league at the time this rolled out, just occasionally popping in for some all random matches. This music and this music alone reignited my love for the... well not the game proper, I'm quite done with that, but for the universe it takes place in, and that hasn't faded since. I was house sitting out in the country (or as close an approximation Arizona has lol) at the time and so I just had this going full blast basically all day for a week. For some reason the tune just never got old.

GANGPLANK WOO. Easily one of my favorite characters, very ambitious to his own detriment. Was found worthy by Nagakaboros, but gave that up to work with Thresh on the Shadow Isles (undeath is a big no to Nagakaboros who is all about motion). He had lost all pride during the Burning Tides and he'd do anything to get his empire back Edit: Nebulus did a really cool thing and added lyrics to Gangplank's theme. Really good, really recommend

for me, the pirates singing have a feeling of "we have to sing because he ordered so, it has to sound good, but it's so boring, we just have to follow his ways and his rules" But I'm biased since I already know about the lore.
I wouldn’t say it’s honor so much as a firm understanding of being top of the food chain and bilgewater (Pirateland basically, so you can imagine the kind of environment that would be) For example, in one of he’s stories someone tries to double cross him, how does he handle such a situation he proceeds to hunt the man down, drag him back to his captains quarters and proceeds to opens up his leg and intricately carves buru symbols ( buru being the negative people that live there who worship eldritch beings beneath the waves along with some pirate folks that live there) with such a calm and precise hand he could make it can make it even the most bloodthirsty of pirates blood runs cold.
While Gankplank is yes this brutal man unafraid of killing he himself is also will incarnate, the will to live despite everything ,every odd against him, even the Goddes Nagakabouros, goddes of motion and change deemed his soul worthy of living (that only happened three times so far in the lore) and gives this odd similarity with Pantheon (who you covered before) of UNSHAKABLE WILL.
i hate playing against gp but his theme and voice actor are both goated and his dynamic with miss fortune is great (hes the ruthless leader of bilgewater, she kills him as revenge, becomes leader of bilgewater herself vowing to not be as horrible as he was and realizes that in order to rule a city as chaotic as bilgewater she has to become more and more ruthless and violent herself, eventually coming way too close to how the man who ruined her life was while he reigned) its amazing
Gangplank is such a curious case of a champion. He seems like the main villain of Bilgewater as a nation, but in reality, he represented the most of the pirate legacy on those lands. In fact, even if he was feared, the same can be said for a lot of other crews; but amongst them all, Gangplank was the most successful. You will see it soon enough, but in all honesty, the one story in where he is really the villain rather than just the feared captain, is on Miss Fortune herself. Not only because she has a vendetta against him, but because she literally wants him dead in front of everyone. And that's the terrifying thing: Miss Fortune will do anything to make that message clear to anyone who dares to become an ally of the Reaver King itself, and GP has the rights to do the same with MF's followers because she stole him the reputation he carved over the years. Miss Fortune never gave up even though she was younger than the living legend, and Gangplank never gave up even though he was alone and bleeding to death. Both are the same melody of honor of Bilgewater and its people. GP being the one who began the legacy, and MF who followed his path to start a new legacy. But war among these lands may endure, as long as both of them chase each other until one prevails.

For what it's worth the vocal chant is just the general shanty of Bilgewater. It's there to show he was lord of the town, not to really show his personality.
You should react to some of the songs from the Killer Instinct (2013) Soundtrack. The Soundtrack of the first and second Season were done by Mick Gordon, you know, the same person that did Doom 2016 and Eternal. I think Mick did his best work in Killer Instinct.
Honestly I think what happened with the theme is that this was done when Gangplank received a rework and was re-released, along with a whole in-game event that deepened Bilgewater's place in the Lore. I'm quite sure this theme is much more about Bilgewater as a whole than Gangplank himself. The pride and the revelry from the music represent much more how the city of pirates work than the former river king.
gangplank is kinda hard bcs he have a imense event where he change but yeah, he is pridefull of the "im the king here", he lost his throne and will ge it back.
This video is just the casual reminder that the musical themes for the characters that oh so quickly pushed away by riot after a characters release are truly gems and should be cherished. The musical technique within the newer characters is even better and fantastic from a producer standpoint, Lillia and Samira's theme are both fantastic examples though nearly every character has a fitting beautiful theme.
gangplank is the only character that wants to see the world burns. Just imagine, he destroyed zed's temple, stole swain's warship, and make a lot of enemies

Gangplank, the absolute best champion in the game. Many say that he's a villian of the port city called Bilgewater, yet after reading every story of his and playing as him in the game for countless hours I really don't feel like it. Gangplank is a Captain, a boss, but he's not a commnader that doesn't care about his people. He is brutal, cunning, but respectful and intelligent. In his bio he killed parents of another champion called Miss Fortune. That supossedly portrays him as the bad one, but if you think about it, Bilgewater is ruled by gangs that are ready at any moment to fight for the control over the city. If there isn't an iron rule over the port then the city would burn and that is exactly what happens after his supossed death. He didn't kill Fortunes parents for fun, he killed them because the mother was a smith that denied a gun order from him. He killed her, because he had to. Gangplanks rule is bloody and tyrannous, but this is what is required for the city to survive. He loves Bilgewater and sees himself as the rightful king of it and in my opinion that is the beauty of this character. His motivation even tho by many seen as narcissistic and meaningless, is what kept this beautiful and complex city at bay. He respects the indigenous Buhru people and loves to learn about their culture. It just shows how good this character really is. There's also the Harrowing. Black mist that haunts Bilgewater from now and then. It is said that if Gangplank wouldn't organize the city to defend itself, it would fall a long time ago. Once again I believe that he is an incredibly misunderstood character by the community, but thats what makes Gangplank the brutal Gangplank that he tries to show himself. He is the good character and I'll stand for it any day.
If I had to describe Gangplank in one word, it would be "swagger" rather than "fear" or "evil," so I don't think you were that far off. Even knowing how objectively violent and insane Gangplank is, his brazen attitude and the survival of the fittest nature of Bilgewater help prevent him from being a purely despicable character in my eyes. Violence is kind of just collateral damage for making your way in Bilgewater; of course it would take a man like Gangplank to become so infamous in a city full of pirates, and he did it while facing down every challenger to his unofficial crown.

Ahhh, nooo you missed the opportunity to compare this theme (before his "death") and the other theme (after Nagakabouros)! He had such a cool rework though! Unlike any other champion, in his rework event the old gangplank died. And wasn't playable for a few days I think. Until he came back, even more badass and a lot more angry. If you want to know more about how came back stronger, I recommend reading "The Burden"! It has a lot of detail, that was just missing on his lore page.

Honestly, Sarah Fortune boast so much about how shes better than Gangplank, or "my rule is just wile his was tyranny", all that crap. But if the Ruined King Game revealed anything, its that Sarah is no better than he was. Gangplank was a tyrant, yes, but in a lawless region like Bilgewater, being anything less will get you killed. I'd agree that his theme represents the whole "yes we're scum, but we have to be, ye know?", "Honour among the lawless", and the normality of "might makes right" that is the everyday Bilgewater.

It's Bilgewater's theme because of how massive of an effect Gangplank had on it. He was basically the king of Bilgewater.

there is some pretty incredible artwork for Gangplank in Legends of Runeterra (league's cardgame) , of him on the deck of his ship called the Dreadway, with hundreds of barrels of gunpowder, and a look on his face like he is about to crash his ship into the side of the port for people disrespecting him.
I like shanties and stuff and this one's tone is really catchy , or jolly, if you will. I really love this one. It's got jolly moments and then cool moments with unique sounds and rhythms.

Savoring every upload, as usual. Opening my eyes to so many games, franchises, songs, terminologies. Always been fascinated with music, you'll never see me without my headset on, blaring some tunes. First it was metal, "music of the devil" as it was called at the time. Shame I couldn't listen to what I liked without being looked down upon. let's be honest. when gp was originally released, he was a joke. a pirate for the sake of having a pirate. a man whose abilities were a simple pistol shot, eating oranges, and getting his boat to launch a cannon barrage. but with the burning tides event and the rework, he was given a lot more depth. while simultaneously being thrown off the deep end to claw his way back to shore, letting the proud pirate king of bilgewater bay evolve and grow to a more vengeful and stubborn person. also, his metal arm is an item in-game called the dead man's plate. its flavor text is a quote.
"There's only one way you'll get this armor from me..." - forgotten namesake
He has two themes one is where u can hear his crew humming (the one u played) and the other is after he lost to missfortune and lost everything so the other theme song is the same except u cant hear his crew in that one anymore
I feel like this track is his old comrade pirates being "we are pieces of trash, but here, with our captain, this is our fun and small yet full complete world"
gangplank lore has taught me to have pride and believe in myself and his theme solidified that thought which is why its my all time favorite and will always have a special place in my heart

Gangplank is a tough nut to crack. He was inside his ship when misfortune (the character) blew it up, by all rights he should be dead and in the legends of runeterra card game the kindred even says as much. Yet somehow with a pinch of grit and a whole lotta desire for revenge he pulled himself out of the burning wreckage, replaced his destroyed arm, and began doing what he does. Truly a great lord of bilgewater.

I had faded out of playing league at the time this rolled out, just occasionally popping in for some all random matches. This music and this music alone reignited my love for the... well not the game proper, I'm quite done with that, but for the universe it takes place in, and that hasn't faded since. I was house sitting out in the country (or as close an approximation Arizona has lol) at the time and so I just had this going full blast basically all day for a week. For some reason the tune just never got old.

GANGPLANK WOO. Easily one of my favorite characters, very ambitious to his own detriment. Was found worthy by Nagakaboros, but gave that up to work with Thresh on the Shadow Isles (undeath is a big no to Nagakaboros who is all about motion). He had lost all pride during the Burning Tides and he'd do anything to get his empire back
Edit: Nebulus did a really cool thing and added lyrics to Gangplank's theme. Really good, really recommend

for me, the pirates singing have a feeling of "we have to sing because he ordered so, it has to sound good, but it's so boring, we just have to follow his ways and his rules"
But I'm biased since I already know about the lore.
I wouldn’t say it’s honor so much as a firm understanding of being top of the food chain and bilgewater (Pirateland basically, so you can imagine the kind of environment that would be)
For example, in one of he’s stories someone tries to double cross him, how does he handle such a situation he proceeds to hunt the man down, drag him back to his captains quarters and proceeds to opens up his leg and intricately carves buru symbols ( buru being the negative people that live there who worship eldritch beings beneath the waves along with some pirate folks that live there) with such a calm and precise hand he could make it can make it even the most bloodthirsty of pirates blood runs cold.
While Gankplank is yes this brutal man unafraid of killing he himself is also will incarnate, the will to live despite everything ,every odd against him, even the Goddes Nagakabouros, goddes of motion and change deemed his soul worthy of living (that only happened three times so far in the lore) and gives this odd similarity with Pantheon (who you covered before) of UNSHAKABLE WILL.
Gangplank was deemed "Worthy to live." by Nagakaboros, the god of movement in Illaoi's weapon.
i hate playing against gp but his theme and voice actor are both goated and his dynamic with miss fortune is great (hes the ruthless leader of bilgewater, she kills him as revenge, becomes leader of bilgewater herself vowing to not be as horrible as he was and realizes that in order to rule a city as chaotic as bilgewater she has to become more and more ruthless and violent herself, eventually coming way too close to how the man who ruined her life was while he reigned) its amazing

Gangplank is such a curious case of a champion. He seems like the main villain of Bilgewater as a nation, but in reality, he represented the most of the pirate legacy on those lands. In fact, even if he was feared, the same can be said for a lot of other crews; but amongst them all, Gangplank was the most successful.
You will see it soon enough, but in all honesty, the one story in where he is really the villain rather than just the feared captain, is on Miss Fortune herself. Not only because she has a vendetta against him, but because she literally wants him dead in front of everyone. And that's the terrifying thing: Miss Fortune will do anything to make that message clear to anyone who dares to become an ally of the Reaver King itself, and GP has the rights to do the same with MF's followers because she stole him the reputation he carved over the years. Miss Fortune never gave up even though she was younger than the living legend, and Gangplank never gave up even though he was alone and bleeding to death.
Both are the same melody of honor of Bilgewater and its people. GP being the one who began the legacy, and MF who followed his path to start a new legacy. But war among these lands may endure, as long as both of them chase each other until one prevails.
Yeah, Gangplank and Jhin are in my opinion The trickiest, Double faced themes of all League.

For what it's worth the vocal chant is just the general shanty of Bilgewater. It's there to show he was lord of the town, not to really show his personality.
You should react to some of the songs from the Killer Instinct (2013) Soundtrack.
The Soundtrack of the first and second Season were done by Mick Gordon, you know, the same person that did Doom 2016 and Eternal.
I think Mick did his best work in Killer Instinct.

Honestly I think what happened with the theme is that this was done when Gangplank received a rework and was re-released, along with a whole in-game event that deepened Bilgewater's place in the Lore. I'm quite sure this theme is much more about Bilgewater as a whole than Gangplank himself. The pride and the revelry from the music represent much more how the city of pirates work than the former river king.
One of my personal favorite themes.
gangplank is kinda hard bcs he have a imense event where he change but yeah, he is pridefull of the "im the king here", he lost his throne and will ge it back.
This video is just the casual reminder that the musical themes for the characters that oh so quickly pushed away by riot after a characters release are truly gems and should be cherished. The musical technique within the newer characters is even better and fantastic from a producer standpoint, Lillia and Samira's theme are both fantastic examples though nearly every character has a fitting beautiful theme.
gangplank is the only character that wants to see the world burns. Just imagine, he destroyed zed's temple, stole swain's warship, and make a lot of enemies

I would recommend to add the theme of Nunu&Willump to your list Mr. Meatball, one of the most wholesome characters in League
I hope in the future he check the Legends of Runeterra champion theme's for older champs like Malphite and Zilean who doesn't have one in league
Gonna be honest, not that anyone cares but Gank Plank is one of my favorite characters in the game!
Hes tricky to play but really good if you know how to play him, even if he isn't on the best spot right now

Gangplank, the absolute best champion in the game. Many say that he's a villian of the port city called Bilgewater, yet after reading every story of his and playing as him in the game for countless hours I really don't feel like it. Gangplank is a Captain, a boss, but he's not a commnader that doesn't care about his people. He is brutal, cunning, but respectful and intelligent. In his bio he killed parents of another champion called Miss Fortune. That supossedly portrays him as the bad one, but if you think about it, Bilgewater is ruled by gangs that are ready at any moment to fight for the control over the city. If there isn't an iron rule over the port then the city would burn and that is exactly what happens after his supossed death. He didn't kill Fortunes parents for fun, he killed them because the mother was a smith that denied a gun order from him. He killed her, because he had to. Gangplanks rule is bloody and tyrannous, but this is what is required for the city to survive. He loves Bilgewater and sees himself as the rightful king of it and in my opinion that is the beauty of this character. His motivation even tho by many seen as narcissistic and meaningless, is what kept this beautiful and complex city at bay. He respects the indigenous Buhru people and loves to learn about their culture. It just shows how good this character really is. There's also the Harrowing. Black mist that haunts Bilgewater from now and then. It is said that if Gangplank wouldn't organize the city to defend itself, it would fall a long time ago. Once again I believe that he is an incredibly misunderstood character by the community, but thats what makes Gangplank the brutal Gangplank that he tries to show himself. He is the good character and I'll stand for it any day.

If I had to describe Gangplank in one word, it would be "swagger" rather than "fear" or "evil," so I don't think you were that far off. Even knowing how objectively violent and insane Gangplank is, his brazen attitude and the survival of the fittest nature of Bilgewater help prevent him from being a purely despicable character in my eyes. Violence is kind of just collateral damage for making your way in Bilgewater; of course it would take a man like Gangplank to become so infamous in a city full of pirates, and he did it while facing down every challenger to his unofficial crown.

He had such a cool rework though! Unlike any other champion, in his rework event the old gangplank died. And wasn't playable for a few days I think. Until he came back, even more badass and a lot more angry.
If you want to know more about how came back stronger, I recommend reading "The Burden"! It has a lot of detail, that was just missing on his lore page.

Honestly, Sarah Fortune boast so much about how shes better than Gangplank, or "my rule is just wile his was tyranny", all that crap.
But if the Ruined King Game revealed anything, its that Sarah is no better than he was.
Gangplank was a tyrant, yes, but in a lawless region like Bilgewater, being anything less will get you killed. I'd agree that his theme represents the whole "yes we're scum, but we have to be, ye know?", "Honour among the lawless", and the normality of "might makes right" that is the everyday Bilgewater.
You could do this with Pokémon Scarlet & Violet battle music for specific characters too, lately I've been really obsessing over Penny's Battle Music.
