I love it too. Have you seen the Ralph Lauren Cabin/Log Home, not the one in Colorado, the other one with gold furniture, Tartan curtains, houndstooth chair, raven pictures, and layered rugs. It’s a hot mess and I absolutely love it!
Except for seeing him wear sneakers on his bed (eeek!), this apartment tour is fabulous. With all the cookie-cutter apartment tours on TH-cam (“here’s my tall Ikea mirror, here’s my neutral rug from Target”), it’s refreshing to see something original and unique.

They can get the keys to their new place, unpack, install a washer/dryer, and still have dinner prepared for 7:00 just as the hand-cut invitations suggested.

I love the validation of things in this. I too love being able to go into a space and there being layers of the things to look at. I love art overload and little details, and want people to have an “experience” in the spaces they’re in. You’re definitely going to remember the experience of going into this guy’s space!
I have minimalist neighbors and I find it too bare to be interesting. Plain. No reflection of the owners personality. I like my stuff and have collected many different things over the years: books, art, animal figurines, antique furniture. I like walls filled with art and not just one piece per wall. Even a wall full of paint by number paintings can be interesting. I have figurines that I collected over the years mostly of dogs although I have real cats. When I traveled I used to say “this is a one dog town” meaning I bought a dog figurine or a painting of a dog. And I keep figurines in antique cases that are very nice. Modern decorating gives me the shivers. It’s too plain and magazine like to be real for people to live in. I too have a little of that grandma/grandpa style. History matters to me in my furniture and style. And old furniture is so beautifully made. I just can’t fathom living the most imagist style. I have deeply purged my collection of stuff when I owned an antique store, but my home still has a lot of interesting things. And I think your style is beautiful and is so much more interesting and appealing then plain walls and two piece couches.

OMG, this reminds me of my late friend Chuck's place back in the 60s. I was going to the Minneapolis College of Art & Design and he was a former student still living in the old neighborhood. Chuck was an artist and his small jewel box of an apartment (also above a bar) was a meeting place for a bunch of us. He also had original art from floor to ceiling and many, many oddities. Love the creativity it takes to make something like this be cohesive. It takes real talent.

I like that about the Christmas cards. I’m going to start putting bday and Christmas cards people give me inside of my old books. I am the only one of my friends that still has tons of books and and always go back and read parts of them. It’ll be nice to come across a card as a reminder that that person thought of me 🥰

Love it! LOl, when I was 21, a neighbor kid was dying to see my room in the condo I shared with three other gals. When she saw it, (1) she was disappointed it was more 'grown-up' cus I had the same posters of Han Solo and INdy Jones as she did ("You're just a big kid.") and then she remarked as she looked at every nook and cranny of my collectibles and posters and books, "Your room is like a museum."
Wow ... a renter who improves the space (and does the work/buys the materials) ... instead of tearing up brand new appliances and new renovations. What a concept! You're fantastic. Must say New Yorkers are "brave" with all the things they create in a rental. Landlords are blessed in that area of the country. I could spend hours in there just looking around ... in a "tiny" (not so tiny) space. I bet your landlords let's you keep the W/D unit THERE when you move. I hope he loves the kitchen make over. Why would he not. But, do tell ... you did ask/tell him first ... right. (Maybe even before moving in?!) Prearranged agreement. Very unique and well done. I like.
